It's true that the current attacks on our community are dangerous and disorienting. That's the point of them: to confuse us into giving up hope. But the Latino community has always been resilient, and we will rise above this. There are so many ways we can fight back and protect each other. In fact, there are tons of non-violent actions every single one of us can take right now if we want to. Non-violent action is one way we can pour our strength back into ourselves so that we have each other's backs. I've been thinking long and hard about this, and I've found a few ways you can get involved. In this week's episode, we're talking about how you can harness your fear and turn it into power. These attacks on our community will not stop us from being the greatest versions of ourselves. We will continue to grow our businesses, support our community, and thrive in every facet of our lives. We can do it, as long as we do it together. Resources Mentioned: Know Your Rights (Español): ACLU overview + shareable hub. “Migration is grace,” says UCLA professor Robert Chao Romero, author of Brown Church: Five Centuries of Latina/o Social Justice, Theology, and Identity. In this episode, he joins Mark Labberton to discuss the immigration crisis through stories from Southern California, theology of migration, and the challenge of Christian nationalism for the American response to the immigration crisis we face. Romero narrates heartbreaking accounts of ICE raids, racial profiling, and dehumanization, while also offering hope rooted in scripture and the early church. He points out the “Xenodochias” of the ancient and medieval church that cared for migrants. And he shows how biblical narratives—from Abraham to Jesus—reveal God's mercy in migration. Romero calls Christians to see the image of God in migrants, resist the “Latino threat narrative,” and reclaim the church's historic role in welcoming the stranger. Episode Highlights “Migration is grace. … You wouldn't have a Bible without migration.” “Jesus lived and died as an outsider in solidarity with all outsiders, and he rose to new life among outsiders.” “The gospel is an outward pushing invitation… it is the pushing out actually into the far and remote places of suffering in need.” “This level of targeting of the Latino community has not happened since 1954 and Operation Wetback.” “We think that crossing the US border is like crossing the Jordan into the promised land, and we're baptized into the Yankee Doodle song.” Helpful Links and Resources Brown Church by Robert Chao Romero UCLA César E. In recent weeks, President Donald Trump deployed Illinois National Guard troops to Chicago and attempted to mobilize the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, leading to arrests and clashes with protesters in the cities. In Chicago, hundreds of federal officers carried out a large-scale raid at an apartment building on Tuesday, leading to a reported 37 arrests of alleged unauthorized immigrants. In Portland, a federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deploying the Oregon National Guard. Then on Sunday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth called up 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Portland, Chicago, and other cities to support federal agents and protect property.Ad-free podcasts are here!To listen to this podcast ad-free, and to enjoy our subscriber only premium content, go to ReadTangle.com to sign up!You can read today's podcast here, our “Under the Radar” story here and today's “Have a nice day” story here. You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. A Portland City Council member is literally advising protesters to use burner phones and encrypted apps to avoid federal detection while they obstruct ICE operations. Yes, you read that right – an elected official is coaching people on how to interfere with the deportation of criminal illegals. As usual, we're watching taxpayer-funded politicians work against law enforcement while their city crumbles under homeless encampments and drug chaos. This is the same Portland that had to re-criminalize drugs after their "progressive experiment" failed spectacularly. Now they're planning emergency naked bike rides to protest federal troops protecting ICE facilities. Because nothing says serious political resistance quite like riding around naked on a bicycle, right? Meanwhile, they claim their streets "look beautiful" while carefully avoiding footage of the actual disaster zones. Is anyone surprised that the city council member who immigrated here for a better life is now defending the very lawlessness that destroys communities? What did they expect would happen when you tell federal agents they can't do their jobs? Subscribe for more coverage of government insanity and cultural decline that you won't see in mainstream media!

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is calling Trump an "unstable human being" for sending federal agents to arrest Venezuelan gang members in his city. Let that sink in for a moment. Nearly 300 ICE agents carried out a targeted operation against Tren de Aragua gang members, and Johnson's response? Pure outrage that someone dared to enforce immigration law in his sanctuary city.We break down Johnson's CNN meltdown with Wolf Blitzer, his claims about "militarized troops," and the shocking reality that he's more upset about ICE doing their job than actual gang members terrorizing Chicago residents. Meanwhile, cities like Memphis are welcoming federal help because their mayors understand basic public safety. So here's the million-dollar question: How exactly do you defend keeping foreign gang members in American communities? And why are Chicago residents supposedly "shocked and appalled" by the sight of law enforcement actually enforcing the law? The mental gymnastics are Olympic-level here, folks.

In this episode of Passing Judgment, Jessica breaks down the Trump administration's move to federalize the National Guard in Oregon amid Portland protests. She explains Oregon's lawsuit against the federal government, outlining key arguments such as the improper use of federal authority, possible violations of the Posse Comitatus Act, and state sovereignty issues. Jessica evaluates each argument's strength, noting that courts usually defer to presidential discretion in these cases. The episode offers a clear overview of the unfolding legal battle and what's at stake for both state and federal powers. Here are three key takeaways you don't want to miss:1. Federalization of the National Guard in OregonThe episode opens by discussing the Trump administration's decision to federalize the National Guard in Oregon—specifically Portland. This move was made over local objections and parallels previous situations, such as federal intervention during protests in Los Angeles.2. Oregon's Legal Arguments Against FederalizationThe majority of the episode breaks down the legal case Oregon is making in its suit against the federal government.3. Legal Analysis of Oregon's ChancesEach argument is weighed in terms of likely success. The host points out that courts have historically given substantial deference to presidential discretion in these national security and public order matters, making Oregon's position a difficult one.Follow Our Host: @LevinsonJessica

This week, Jason and Matt welcome back a guest who has been on the front lines of the battle for police accountability for years—David, better known as San Joaquin Valley Transparency. Four years after his last appearance, we sit down to discuss the evolving landscape of citizen journalism and the ever-expanding police state under the current administration. The conversation kicks off with a dive deep into the political hypocrisy of the last few years, exploring how the right's brief awakening to the police state during COVID has evaporated, and how both political parties simply trade outrage-jerseys depending on who controls the White House. David gives us a crucial on-the-ground perspective from his community on the real-world impact of the recent ICE raids, cutting through the national media narrative. The discussion expands from the visible police on the street to the invisible digital panopticon of companies like Palantir, and we explore the chilling theory of a Hegelian dialectic—asking if social chaos is being deliberately engineered to make a frightened public beg for more control. David's evolution from a street-level auditor to an activist seeking systemic change at city council meetings is a powerful lesson in effective resistance. Despite the heavy subject matter, we close on a much-needed white pill for the future of liberty. On June 27th we posted a great conversation I had with L.A. Taco editor-in-chief Javier Cabral about what's going on in California with the cruel, inhumane and dangerous ICE raids that have had a devastating effect on L.A.'s vibrant and diverse taco culture. I haven't been able to stop thinking about the situation both in California and all over the country. So I thought that this week would be an appropriate and even necessary moment to reheat Javier's episode. Obviously much has happened in LA and elsewhere in the ensuing weeks and months, none of it good, in fact all of it truly awful. And L.A. Taco continues to do some incredible reporting on the situation in L.A. It's also aggregating reliable news stories about the nightmarish anti-immigration crackdown from elsewhere. As families prepare to send their kids back to school this year, some parents must face a new worry: will their children make it home safely, or will they be there to greet them, at the end of the day? Trump's immigration crackdown is taking a toll on families across America, particularly under new guidance that allows ICE to arrest people in places where they were formerly prohibited from doing so—like schools, healthcare facilities, and places of worship. How will this impact students and families across the nation—and what can we do to fight back?Helping us to sort out these questions and set the record straight is our very special guest, Kevin R. Johnson: Kevin R. Johnson is the former dean and a Professor of Law at UC Davis. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis is not pleased after a warning for residents to “shelter in place” was lifted prematurely early Wednesday, while police were still looking for a gunman who shot a police officer and a civilian in Zilker Park. In this episode of Passing Judgment, Jessica Levinson unpacks two recent Supreme Court emergency decisions. First, she discusses the Court's move to allow ICE raids in Los Angeles to proceed, highlighting the legal debate over what constitutes reasonable suspicion for immigration enforcement. Next, she examines a ruling permitting President Trump to fire an FTC commissioner, raising questions about presidential authority over executive agencies.Jessica then dives into a major Federal Circuit Court decision striking down President Trump's expansive tariffs, explaining why the court found he lacked statutory authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). With the Trump administration seeking Supreme Court review, Jessica explores what these rulings mean for executive power, immigration, and international trade. Here are three key takeaways you don't want to miss:1. 1. Supreme Court Emergency Docket Decisions: Jessica opens the episode with a breakdown of two new decisions from the Supreme Court's “emergency docket.” These aren't full decisions on the merits, but rather interim rulings that signal how the Court may eventually decide, and have real practical effects in the meantime.2. The Federal Circuit Court's Landmark Ruling on Tariffs: Jessica explains a recent and highly significant Federal Circuit Court decision regarding President Trump's use of reciprocal tariffs. The court held that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize the president to impose sweeping tariffs as he did.3. The Core Legal Issue: Presidential Authority Under the IEEPA: A central theme is whether the IEEPA grants the president power to impose tariffs. The court found it does not, highlighting that the statute's language does not include terms like "tariff," "duty," or "tax," distinguishing it from other statutes where Congress has explicitly delegated tariff authority.Follow Our Host: @LevinsonJessica

Todd opens with a straight shot at today's fight over law and order—ICE raids, National Guard support in blue cities, and the left's meltdown over basic enforcement. Why would any governor or mayor reject help if crime is hurting real people? Todd contrasts “police state” rhetoric with the reality: Guard units in support roles, not roaming for arrests, while local and federal law enforcement target violent offenders and illegal re-entrants. He walks through CHAZ/CHOP memories, DC's safer streets, and the horrifying Charlotte light rail murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska—asking why repeat violent offenders keep getting back out. Then he breaks down real objections conservatives should answer in good faith: militarization optics, civil liberties, mission creep, and the Posse Comitatus guardrails the media rarely explain.Plus: The Daily Truth newsletter relaunch, and sponsor messages to protect your wallet and your health.Subscribe free to The Daily Truth at ToddHuffShow.com/truth for conservative, not bitter commentary delivered afternoons.Freedom Marketplace: https://freedommarketplace.net The Stack: https://www.toddhuffshow.com/stack-of-stuff Email: todd@toddhuffshow.comPhone: 317.210.2830Follow us on…Instagram: @toddhuffshowFacebook: The Todd Huff ShowTwitter: @toddhuffshowLinkedIn: The Todd Huff ShowTikTok: @toddhuffshowSupport Our Partners:https://www.toddhuffshow.com/partners Show Sponsors: https://www.mypillow.com/todd Promo Code: TODD Red, White, & Brand – Text TODD at 317-210-2830 for a 10% discount.SolTea – Heart health made simple. The House Oversight Committee releases new documents from Jeffrey Epstein's estate, including a so-called “birthday book” with pages Democrats say contain Donald Trump's name. The president insists the notes are fake. Plus, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launches “Operation Midway Blitz” — a federal crackdown targeting undocumented immigrants in Chicago. Officials said it's aimed at “criminal illegal aliens,” but Illinois leaders call the move political theater. And the Supreme Court sides with the Trump administration, clearing the way for ICE to conduct so-called “roving raids” in Los Angeles. These stories and more highlight your Unbiased Updates for Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025.
