The headlines make it look chaotic, but there is a deeper strategy unfolding behind the ICE raids, the unraveling of Antifa networks, and the media's intense reaction to Melania Trump. I connect the dots between corruption being exposed, institutional power being challenged, and why cultural elites are losing their grip all at once. When you see how these pieces fit together, the confusion gives way to clarity and you can discern what God is allowing to surface in this season. Federal agents have descended on Minneapolis in the U.S., and things have gotten chaotic — and deadly. The Trump administration says the agents are there to enforce immigration law, but officers have shot three people so far, killing two, and are using tear gas and smoke on protesters. So today, we're looking at the potential health impacts of tear gas. We'll talk about what we do — and don't — know about potential long-term effects of this stuff. And we're also looking into research on the mental health effects of immigration raids. We speak to Dr. Jennifer Brown, Dr. Carlee Toddes, and Dr. William Lopez. This episode does mention mental health issues. Football Playoffs, Luke Combs, Bruce Springsteen, Greenland. Winter Storm Fern is Coming. Don Lemon, Tiktok, Paris Hilton, AOC, Stars And Stripes in the Cross Hairs. Winter Storm Fern is coming—but so is Willie Geist. In this special Football Friday episode of Independent Americans, Paul Rieckhoff welcomes back one of the show's very first guests and one of the most trusted voices in American media: MS NOW Morning Joe co-anchor and Sunday Today host Willie Geist. Together they unpack a blizzard of news and sports, from Trump's escalating ICE raids and the horrific detention of five-year-old Liam Ramos to the killing of Renee Goode and what this all reveals about power, abuse and basic decency in America right now. They go below the radar on Trump's mounting assault on the free press—DOJ's failed move against Don Lemon, the targeting of outlets like Stars and Stripes, and what it's like to do Morning Joe in a country where the president openly weaponizes the government against media critics. Willie explains why this is exactly the time to lean in, not check out, and why he still sees his work as a public service rooted in gratitude, fatherhood and deep support for veterans. And because it's Football Friday, they also break down NFL Championship Sunday—Patriots–Broncos, Seahawks–Rams, Drake May's poise vs. Matt Stafford's firepower—plus Giants, Harbaugh, Skattebo, the Yankees, Don Mattingly and why live sports and music (from Luke Combs to Springsteen in Newark) still bring divided Americans together. Send us a textToday's episode is an invitation to listen closely—to grief, to courage, and to the hard work of hope. My guest is Darcy McKenzie, a social and political activist in Minneapolis, and our conversation begins where so many lives were altered: George Floyd. Where were you when it happened? What was your response? How did it change you? Darcy answers those questions with honesty shaped by experience—growing up in rural, agricultural America; living with a tenuous relationship to the Church; and carrying the layered truths of atrocities we too often rush past, including the tragic shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.We talk about Minneapolis in the shadow of ICE, about video evidence without a hearing, about the politics of spectacle—cowboy hats and bounty promises—and about what it means to be a military mom when the state feels like a regime. Along the way, Darcy names political heroes and builders—people like Tim Walz, Amy Klobuchar, Tina Smith, Brian O'Hare, and Paul Cumings—and asks what real leadership looks like now. Most of all, we ask what we're hoping for in 2026, and why optimism—clear-eyed, grounded optimism—still makes sense. Send us a textArmando hears the same heartbreaking story over and over: talented Latinas been doing their white boss's job for years, training replacement after replacement, but they're never considered for the promotion because they "lack training." Meanwhile, mainstream fundraising conferences and training programs are designed for wealthy organizations, ignoring the small and medium-sized Latino nonprofits that desperately need support. The result? A sector where Latino leaders are systematically kept out of decision-making roles while being exploited for their labor, passion, and proximity to community.Armando Zumaya, a 40-year fundraising veteran, is the founder of Somos El Poder, the first Latinx fundraising institute in the United States. He doesn't hold back as he exposes the tokenization, invisibility, and structural barriers that Latinx fundraisers face daily. Armando isn't just here to call out the problem. Democrats continue causing mass hysteria about ICE, but they were fine with it back when it was President Obama running the operations. A man used self-defense to protect himself in New York City but still ended up being sent to prison for four years. Democrats would rather punish law-abiding citizens than go after career criminals. The family of Lance Twiggs — who was the partner of Tyler Robinson, the alleged shooter of Charlie Kirk — said they believe that Robinson was indeed the shooter despite many different conspiracy theories. Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.comIn this episode of Faithful Politics, we sit down with Bishop Dwayne Royster, pastor and national faith leader with Faith in Action, to wrestle with what faith looks like when political power is being used to intimidate, exclude, and dehumanize. Royster traces how his theology was shaped early by organizing, community action, and a church tradition where justice and faith were never separate. From the roots of white Christian nationalism to the modern machinery behind ICE raids and political fear, he explains why Christianity was never meant to serve empire—and why power itself is morally neutral until it is used to liberate or to dominate. We talk through the shooting of Renee Good, the contrasting Christian response to political violence, and what it means for churches to hold government accountable without abandoning nonviolence. Royster challenges Christians to move beyond sermons and into action, calling the church to become “courageously uncomfortable” in a moment that demands moral clarity, solidarity with neighbors, and a recovery of faith rooted in human dignity rather than political control. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the economic circumstances of many, creating demand for direct aid, interrupting consumer spending, and altering the nature of work. Today, there are people across the country in lockdown again — mixed-status immigrant families, who are experiencing disruptive economic pressures that mirror the pandemic. Today, we'll draw parallels. Plus, more people admit to stealing at self-checkouts. And, what can we expect from the Federal Reserve in 2026?
