Welcome back to the show, with me, I have Alexis of the super fabulous 22 at the Lips podcast. So we decided that we wanted to get together and collaborate on the topic and the infamous phrase “those who can't do, teach.”It's a very big pet peeve of mine, it's a phrase that really has no true foundation. So Alexis and I kind of have a similar background, but the opposite is why we came here. Alexis began in education and then went into EMS (and is now getting the EMS education side of things), where I began on the EMS side and then transitioned into the full-time education side.-BenListen to more of Ben and his guests on Profess EMS wherever you get your podcasts.Produced by Master Your Medicshttps://www.masteryourmedics.com/

Send us a textArnie and Fred continue to discuss why the Bible was written. We pick up where we left off in the last episode by noting that the Bible explains how people become Christians. We look at what Luke says in Acts about when the disciples were first called Christians. We note that there was a prophesy that discussed this in the Old Testament. We move on to look at various passages that tell us how to obey the gospel, that is, how to become a Christian. Jesus and Paul both note why it is important to hear and learn the gospel. Mark records what Jesus said about believing, as did Luke when he wrote Acts 16 verses 30 and 31. Jesus has something to say about repentance and we discuss that. Paul was on Mars Hill and had a lengthy discussion with the intelligentsia of Athens there and talked about the need for repentance. We close out this episode by noting two occasions that Luke recorded in Acts that contained references to baptism. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussions. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

It's Monday, October 28th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 373 profess faith in Christ at Mississippi State Fair Earlier this month, nearly 200 volunteers with the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board shared Jesus Christ at the Mississippi State Fair. According to The Christian Post, Linda Burris said, “We made a record of 2,824 Gospel conversations with 373 of those praying to receive Christ.” Now that's some good news about the Good News! In Luke 15:7, Jesus said, "I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Michelle Obama urges men to vote for Kamala to ensure abortion At a Get Out the Vote rally in Michigan on Saturday, former First Lady Michelle Obama campaigned against Trump. She made the misguided claim that if men helped to elect Trump, they were putting the women in their lives in danger because of Trump's desire to protect babies in the womb. Listen. MICHELLE OBAMA: “To anyone out there thinking about sitting out this election or voting for Donald Trump or a third party candidate in protest because you're fed up, let me warn you.  (boos) Your rage does not exist in a vacuum. (cheers) If we don't get this election right, your wife, your daughter, your mother -- we as women -- will become collateral damage to your rage. (cheers, applause) “Are you as men prepared to look into the eyes of the women and children you love and tell them that you supported this assault on our safety?” Truth be told, according to the 197-page report entitled “Unsafe: How America's Abortion Industry Is Endangering Women,” having an abortion poses a dramatically greater medical risk than delivering a baby. Obama took credit for Trump's good economy On October 11th, former President Barack Obama campaigned for Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He claimed that Trump had a good economy because he, Obama, gave him a good economy, reports Axios. OBAMA: “The reason some people think, ‘I remember that economy when [Trump] first came in being pretty good.' Yeah, it was pretty good because it was my economy! (cheers) It wasn't something he did.” GOP Congressman shows Trump's economy twice as good Republican Congressman Byron Donalds of Florida took issue with Obama's claim that Trump's good economy was really Obama's good economy. DONALDS: “I was working in finance during Barack Obama's administration. The economy under his last, especially the last five years, was growing at about 1% to 1.5% per year. At the time, President Obama was saying that, you know, this era of large economic growth is something of the past. Consistent economy meant one that barely grew. “So, when Donald Trump came in, he brought his tax cut policy in which he cut taxes across the board for everybody in our country, couple [with that] the fact that he did cut massive regulations. “Economic growth in the United States went from 1-1.5% under Barack Obama to 3-3.5% under Donald Trump. Wages, adjusted for inflation, increased for every subgroup of Americans. The wealth gap was closing. We were actually booming economically far more than we did under Barack Obama. “So, that's a cool statement he made on the stump, but it's not true.” Dr. James Dobson shares his presidential voting guide Click here to see it. Florida postal worker accused of dumping 1,000 pieces of mail, including political pieces A Florida postal worker has been accused of dumping more than 1,000 pieces of mail in a wooded lot in Orlando, including over 400 pieces of political mail and at least one election ballot, reports The Epoch Times. Ottis McCoy Jr., who was employed by Cummings Contract Delivery Service to deliver mail for the U.S. Postal Service, has been charged with stealing and discarding mail in violation of federal law, according to a criminal complaint filed on October 25th. Data from a GPS tracking device connected to the vehicle McCoy was driving indicated that McCoy had deviated from the route, prompting the manager to investigate. Help fund new well for Pakistani Christian orphanage And finally, The Worldview covers the persecuted church every weekday. But today, I have a personal report from a Pakistani missionary whom I have had the honor to meet in person. For decades, Pastor Michael has spent his life planting 33 churches and an orphanage with 87 children in a country which is not only 96% Muslim, but downright hostile to Christianity. In fact, it is only by the hand of Providence that he, his wife, and three children are still alive. First, the Muslims burned down three consecutive homes of Pastor Michael. MICHAEL: “Because of my Christian faith and my activities with the Christian community, the Muslims, they do not like it. They burned out my home, and I moved from that home to another city, to another home, and it was burned again. “They came with the long, fire sticks. My family, when they heard the noise, they came out and they saw hundreds of people are attacking the house. So, thanks to God, that God saved our lives, but we lost three different houses.” As if that were not enough, Pakistani Muslims also kidnapped and tortured one of Michael's three children. MICHAEL: “Always the Christian leaders are under the threat. The children are always kidnapped. My son was kidnapped from the gym when he was exercising. A group of Muslim men, they kidnapped him and tortured him many days. When we found him after 16 days, he was half dead. He was not able to talk. He was under medical care for many days. Then he flew to Germany. He is still there.” Tragically, the well of the Christian orphanage has become polluted and two of the children have died. MICHAEL: “Unfortunately, two children, they went to the Lord because of the contaminated water. They had sickness, hepatitis and some stomach diseases. In that area, there is a drain going through, and that drain carries the disposal of chemicals.” For the moment, the 85 orphans have been placed in the homes of 30 different church families while Michael covers the cost of their food. After consulting with water experts, they discovered that they need to dig a well 500 feet deep for pure drinking water compared to the current contaminated well which is only 200 feet deep. MICHAEL: “Temporarily, they are living there. After a certain time, we will bring them back when we get clean water again.” The cost to dig a new well will be $15,000. So far, God has already provided $10,815.  Special thanks to the Blanco, Texas United Methodist Church which gave $5,000.  So, in order to completely pay for the new well for the Pakistani Christian orphanage, Pastor Michael still needs to raise $4,185. Join me and send an urgently needed, tax-deductible donation made out to Rio Grande Valley Prayer Center, their sister organization here in America. The address is 3106 Harmony Lane, Mission, TX 78574.  In the memo, write: “Pakistani orphanage well.” The prayer center will then wire your money to a nearby bank in Pakistan to help build that well. In light of the country's crippling 42% inflation rate, the sooner they receive the money, the better.  After you send your check, please take a moment to email me at Adam@TheWorldview.com, and I'll simply announce your first name, city and state so that we can celebrate together the completion of this life-saving project. Pastor Michael offered this prayer. MICHAEL: “Dear God, I pray that you would touch the heart of the listeners to give generously to help us build this new well in Pakistan for the 85 orphan children. Amen.” 1 John 3:17 says, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” Close And that's The Worldview on this Monday, October 28th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. On this week's episode of the SSPX Podcast, we welcome again Fr. Shane Pezzutti to discuss what the Church professes concerning the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a point of Catholic dogma that Our Lady's virginity was perpetual, yet some Christians question this position based not only on conjecture, but ostensibly on the Bible. In this episode, we examine the question and explain, on the basis of Scripture and Tradition, why the Church states infallibly that Mary remained a virgin for her entire life. May is the perfect month to review some of these questions, not only to satisfy our reason, but to hopefully increase our devotion as well to this great privilege of our Blessed Mother. We'd love your feedback on these Daily Devotionals! A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” Mark 1:40–41In the Old Testament, Leviticus 14, God gave Moses a purification rite to be used for those who were cured of leprosy. This detailed rite that spanned several days was used to reintegrate a healed leper back into society. After Jesus healed the leper in today's Gospel passage, He ordered him to “go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” Thus, Jesus not only healed the man but instructed him that he was ready to be restored to the community. At that time, leprosy was a horrible disease, not only for its physical effects, but also because the leper was not permitted to be a part of the society. This was because leprosy was quite contagious. By keeping those infected separate, the disease did not spread as easily to others. As we ponder this healing, try to imagine not only the pain caused by the leper's disease, but especially the pain caused by his isolation. Obviously, there were no phones at that time, no video chatting, and no means of communication from a distance. Therefore, isolation would have meant a complete loss of the person's relationship with his family and friends, as well as his former livelihood, home and all that was a part of his life.On a spiritual level, the various illnesses that Jesus cured are, in part, to be seen as symbols of sin. In the case of leprosy, we should see this illness as a symbol of the effects of mortal sin. And mortal sin, unless it is cured by God's forgiveness, has the effect of completely isolating a person from the life of grace. One becomes cut off from a relationship with God, as well as every other relationship that is centered in Christ. When one commits mortal sin and remains in that sin, that person is not capable of true love, since all grace is gone from their life. Therefore, their relationships become self-centered, demanding and unholy. For those who have fallen into mortal sin, this leper is a symbol of the way out. First, he came to Jesus and knelt down before Him. He humbled himself before our Lord, acknowledging that Jesus was the answer to his ailment. He then begged Jesus for help. But the way he begged Jesus is also revealing.: he did not demand a healing but instead simply professed his faith in the fact that Jesus could heal him. And then he knelt there in trust and hope. This leper teaches us the perfect way to approach our Lord when we struggle with serious sin. Reflect, today, upon this leper. Try to understand his isolation and loss. Try to understand his humility and faith. And seek to imitate the way that he comes to our Lord. Do not be afraid to humble yourself before God as you acknowledge the sins and other needs you have. Profess your faith in His almighty power and love, and place yourself into His hands of merciful love. He will not let you down. Most merciful Lord, You desire all of Your children to be healed of the many sins that keep them from communion with You and with Your people. Please give me the faith and trust I need to always be able to humble myself before You so as to receive the restoration to Your grace I so desire. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

Welcome to Episode 213 of Lucretius Today. This is a podcast dedicated to the poet Lucretius, who wrote "On The Nature of Things," the most complete presentation of Epicurean philosophy left to us from the ancient world. Each week we walk you through the Epicurean texts, and we discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. If you find the Epicurean worldview attractive, we invite you to join us in the study of Epicurus at EpicureanFriends.com, where you will find a discussion thread for each of our podcast episodes and many other topics. This week we continue our discussion of Book Two of Cicero's On Ends, which is largely devoted Cicero's attack on Epicurean Philosophy. Going through this book gives us the opportunity to review those attacks, take them apart, and respond to them as an ancient Epicurean might have done, and much more fully than Cicero allowed Torquatus, his Epicurean spokesman, to do.Follow along with us here: Cicero's On Ends - Complete Reid Edition. Check any typos or other questions against the original PDF which can be found here. This week we move into Section XXIII:REID EDITIONXXIII. But let us grant this: the very name pleasure has no prestige, and we perhaps do not understand it; for you philosophers say over and over again, that we do not under- stand what kind of pleasure you mean. Surely it is a hard and abstruse subject! When you speak of atoms and spaces between universes, which do not and cannot exist, then we understand ; and can we not understand pleasure, which every sparrow knows so well? What if I bring you to admit that I not only know what pleasure is (it is indeed an agreeable activity affecting the sense) but what you intend it to be? At one time you intend it to mean exactly what I just now indicated, and imply by the name that it is something active, and produces a certain variation ; at another time you speak of a certain other supreme pleasure, which is incapable of increase ; this you say is present when all pain is absent; this you call stable pleasure. Let us grant that this is pleasure. State before any public meeting you like that you do everything with a view to avoiding pain. If you think that even this statement cannot be made with proper honour and dignity, say that both during your term of office and your whole life you intend always to act with an eye to your interest, doing nothing but what is profitable, nothing in fine except for your own private sake; what kind of uproar do you think there will be, or what hope will you have of the consulship, which is now very well assured to you? Do you mean then to follow a system such that you adopt it when alone and in the company of your friends but do not venture to proclaim it or make it public? But in reality when you attend the courts or the senate you have always on your lips the language of the Peripatetics and the Stoics. Duty and equity, honour and loyalty, uprightness and morality, everything worthy of the empire and the Roman people, all kind of dangers to be faced for the commonwealth, death due to our country,—when you talk in this strain, we simpletons are overcome, but you I suppose laugh in your sleeve. Verily among these phrases, splendid and noble as they are, no place is found for pleasure, not merely for that pleasure which you philosophers say lies in activity, which all men in town and country, all I say, who speak Latin, call pleasure, but even for this stable pleasure, which no one but you entitles pleasure.XXIV. Consider then whether you ought not to avoid adopting our language, along with opinions of your own. If you were to disguise your features or your gait in order to make yourself appear more dignified, you would be unlike yourself; are you the man to disguise your language, and say what you do not think? Or to keep one opinion for your home, as you might a suit of clothes, and another for the streets, so that you bear on your brow a mere pretense, while the truth is concealed within? Consider, I pray you, whether this is honest. I believe that those tenets are true which are moral, praiseworthy and noble, which are to be proclaimed in the senate, before the people, and in every public meeting and assembly, for fear that men should feel no shame in thinking what they feel shame in stating. What room can there be for friendship, or who can be a friend to any one whom he does not love for that friend's sake? What does loving, from which the word friendship comes, mean, unless that a man desires some one to be endowed with the greatest possible blessings, even though no benefit accrues to himself from them? It is advantageous to me, says he, to entertain such feelings, Say rather, perhaps, to be thought to entertain them. For you cannot entertain them, unless you really mean to do so; and how can you do so, unless love itself takes possession of you? And love is not usually brought about by calculating the balance of advantage, but is self-created, and springs into existence unsolicited. Oh, but it is advantage that I look to. Then friendship will last just so long as advantage attends it, and if advantage establishes friendship, it will also remove it. But what will you do, pray, if, as often happens, friendship is deserted by advantage? Will you abandon it? What sort of friendship is that? Will you cleave to it? How is that consistent ? You see what principles you have laid down about friendship being desirable with a view to advantage. I am afraid of incurring unpopularity, if I cease to support my friend. First I ask why such a proceeding deserves to be unpopular, unless because it is disgraceful? But if you refrain from abandoning your friend, from the fear that you may meet with some inconvenience, still you will wish him to die, that you may not be tied to him without any profit. What if he not merely brings you no advantage but you have to make sacrifices of your property, to undergo exertions, to face the risk of your life? Will you not even then glance at yourself and reflect that every man is born to pursue his own interests and his own pleasures? Will you give yourself up to a despot, to suffer death as surety for your friend, even as the Pythagorean of old submitted to the Sicilian despot, or while you are really Pylades, will you assert yourself to be Orestes, from the wish to die in your friend's stead, or if you were really Orestes, would you try to disprove Pylades' story, and disclose yourself, and failing to convince, would you refuse to petition against the execution of you both at once?RACKHAM EDITION:XXIII. "But let us grant your position. The actual word 'pleasure' has not a lofty sound; and perhaps we do not understand its significance : you are always repeating that we do not understand what you mean by pleasure. As though it were a difficult or recondite notion! If we understand you when you talk of 'indivisible atoms' and 'cosmic interspaces,' things that don't exist and never can exist, is our intelligence incapable of grasping the meaning of pleasure, a feeling known to every sparrow? What if I force you to admit that I do know not only what pleasure really is (it is an agreeable activity of the sense), but also what you mean by it? For at one moment you mean by it the feeling that I have just defined, and this you entitle kinetic pleasure, as producing a definite change of feeling, but at another moment you say it is quite a different feeling, which is the acme and climax of pleasure, but yet consists merely in the complete absence of pain; this you call static' pleasure. Well, grant that pleasure is the latter sort of feeling. Profess in any public assembly that the motive of all your actions is the desire to avoid pain. If you feel that this too does not sound sufficiently dignified and respectable, say that you intend both in your present office and all your life long to act solely for the sake of your own advantage, — to do nothing but what will pay, nothing in short that is not for your own interest; imagine the uproar among the audience! What would become of your chances of the consulship, which as it is seems to be a certainty for you in the near future? Will you then adopt a rule of life which you can appeal to in private and among friends but which you dare not openly profess or parade in public? Ah, but it is the vocabulary of the Peripatetics and the Stoics that is always on your lips, in the law-courts and the senate. Duty, Fair-dealing, Moral Worth, Fidelity, Uprightness, Honour, the Dignity of office, the Dignity of the Roman People, Risk all for the state. Die for your Country, — when you talk in this style, we simpletons stand gaping in admiration, — and you no doubt laugh in your sleeve. For in that glorious array of high-sounding words, pleasure finds no place, not only what your school calls kinetic pleasure, which is what every one, polished or rustic, every one, I say, who can speak Latin, means by pleasure, but not even this static pleasure, which no one but you Epicureans would call pleasure at all.XXIV. Well then, are you sure you have any right to employ our words with meanings of your own? If you assumed an unnatural expression or demeanour, in order to look more important, that would be insincere. Are you then to affect an artificial language, and say what you do not think? Or are you to change your opinions like your clothes, and have one set for indoor wear and another when you walk abroad? Outside, all show and pretence, but your genuine self concealed within? Reflect, I beg of you, is this honest? In my view those opinions are true which are honourable, praiseworthy and noble — which can be openly avowed in the senate and the popular assembly, and in every company and gathering, so that one need not be ashamed to say what one is not ashamed to think.Again, how will friendship

He also gained extensive leadership experience in academia and then in law enforcement, where he served on three separate police agencies before retiring as a detective from an agency in Los Angeles County.  Pulling from decades of experience in enlisted and commissioned roles, Jassen shares three leadership principles–trust, respect, and caring–principles that inspired his short book titled Three Leadership Principles for the Christian in the Military. While the military certainly provides ample leadership training and experience, Jassen shares about the importance of leading from a Christ-centered life, Bible verses that shape his leadership style, and more.  >Check out these resources mentioned in Jassen's interview:  Three Leadership Principles for the Christian in the Military, Jassen's short book that features Biblical examples and methodology  Leadership Essentials Podcast, Jassen's podcast that focuses on practical insights for leaders    >Study questions for this episode As you listen to this conversation with Jassen, here are a few questions to ponder in your personal time, with a small group, or with a mentor:  How would you characterize a good leader and a bad leader?  What effect does right relationship with God have on our relationships with others on earth, especially in leadership contexts?  What Bible verses come to mind to shape your leadership practices?  How does humility produce good leadership?  Why is it important to have deeper relationships with those operating under your leadership?  Who in your life is providing you with feedback in order to develop your leadership skills?

Baptism is to be one of the first acts of obedience for a believer when they repent and come to Christ in faith (Acts 2:38; 8:35-38). But how should parents and elders respond to the testimony of young children who profess Christ? Is there a certain “age of maturity” kids should reach before being baptized? In this podcast Scott Brown and Jason Dohm, joined by special guest Jeffrey Johnson, tackle this thorny topic. Arguing against a minimum age, they emphasize that, prior to baptism, children should demonstrate a cognitive maturity and clear articulation of the gospel they profess, accompanied by tangible fruit of a real heart change. Acknowledging that children are impressionable, they counsel for careful evaluation of each child’s profession, while also encouraging baptism when the signs of conversion are clear. This is somewhat of a counterpoint of the podcast with Sam Waldron on the same subject.

No more beer. Profess faith in Joseph Smith as a prophet, the Book of Mormon, and the current LDS prophet as a prophet, seer, and revelator. Are you willing to live the health code, pay a full title, keep the LDS commandments? The road to baptism into the LDS Church required satisfactory answers to the baptismal interview questions. So, Michael believed that after baptism into the LDS Church, he had arrived at salvation. After baptism, he had been declared a member of the LDS Church and commanded by a priesthood member with authority to receive the Holy Ghost. Soon he was given a calling (job) in the church. But, no, the road to eternal life was paved with an eternity of requirements and effort that he calls the “requirements treadmill.” The next hurdle was to prepare himself worthy to enter an LDS temple where he discovered many things may be sacred to the LDS but they were secret to new members before attending the temple. See our book 7 Reasons We Left Mormonism for some of the many laws and ordinances required for eternal life.

Are you struggling with doubt? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally describes how you can disarm doubt and walk in hope. Hope is the confident, patient expectation that something good is going to happen. Doubt is uncertainty rooted in fear, pain or discouragement.Doubt is not a lack of belief; it is a wrong belief.  We are all susceptible to doubt. But since doubt is uncertainty rooted in fear, pain or discouragement, certain people more susceptible to doubt:1. Deep thinkers, intellectuals: FEAR of being wrong/not knowing.2. People wounded by church: PAIN3. People who've been through trauma: DISCOURAGEMENTHow does God feel about our doubt?John 20:19-29Jesus doesn't criticize doubt, He cures doubt. You're not morally inferior if your struggle with doubt; you simply believe the wrong thing and need to be healed from the fear, pain or discouragement that is the source of it.  Disarm doubt by embracing faith.Faith is not mental certainty. Faith is trust, powered by relationship, and evidenced by action.James 2:26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.Luke 17:5-6 “The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” 6The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you! It's not about the amount of faith you have, it;s about the amount of faith you use. How do we reconcile faith and doubt?Mark 9:24 - I believe; help my unbelief!”Profess your faith, confess your doubt, possess your promise. Are you disarming doubt?
