We are playing hella mindgames in this episode of ScaryCrit, where we get lost in the trappings of the 2000s trippy thriller The Cell. This has been an episode long in the making and it makes quite a step in our #Roadto100! Bolstered by Melle's delicious passion for this underrated gem, we explore Jennifer and Vince's uncharacteristic roles, the movie essentially being two different stories, the illustration of fantasy and darkness through the mind and the mind itself being the perfect sandbox for The Cell to play with all it's weirdness in. Note: If y'all have not ever watched The Cell, we implore you heavily to please see it before listening. Seriously!Second note: Please don't hold our mispronunciations of Hercule Poirot and Gonjiam against us. Jared got the I and J mixed up and Melle's heart was in the right place. Thank you. Mark from The Plot podcast presents: In a giant week for Nintendo, we welcome GameXplain's Andre Segers back to the podcast to discuss the Super Mario Brothers Movie, the upcoming Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Super Nintendo World theme park in California and revisiting Paper Mario Sticker Star on its tenth anniversary, a game he hated at the time with the fury of a thousand suns. Thanks to Andre for carving out some time for us on a super busy week for him and his crew.
With such a huge week for Nintendo, who else could we get to talk about it but Andre Segers (@andresegers) from GameXplain? Of course, we start with the juggernaut that is the Super Mario Brothers Movie. On the day of recording, it had just passed the $500 million plateau, and still hadn't opened in Japan yet. In a spoiler-filled chat, we discuss the plot (does it matter it was straightforward?), the voice acting (such a talking point prior to release) and some of the criticisms the picture has gotten from mainstream film critics. From there, we talk about the last trailer for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom before its release in about a month. We look at the new elements in this version, including finally getting some clue about the plot, the game mechanics and how silly the idea was that it was “just a $70 DLC for Breath of the Wild.” Andre tells us about his trip to the opening of Super Nintendo World in California, although he still hasn't had the change to go to the park in Japan. We end with the pain Andre went through to replay Paper Mario Sticker Star on its tenth anniversary. He famously hated the game when it came out and we chat about why there may have been extenuating circumstances then and have his feelings toward the game after all this time. It was obviously a big week for GameXplain, so we thank Andre for finding the time to do the show again.
Mientras tanto, ponedle play! Jk_eye, Travol y RodoR
This episode we are joined by Jake and Alex from NintenBros! Today Arnaldo and Paul conclude a trilogy four years in the making with their final (or is it?....) look at Intelligent Systems, this time through their sometimes beloved Paper Mario series! The show starts off with the first proof of concept for the Mario RPG, uh.. Super Mario RPG! (6:00) The N64's RPG magnum opus Paper Mario is next (27:00) followed by a detailed look at our favourite Paper Mario video game, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (42:30). The road diverges a bit from the RPG formula with Super Paper Mario on the Wii (1:26:00) and the wheels start falling off with Paper Mario: Sticker Star on the 3DS (1:42:30) but Paper Mario Colour Splash and Origami king try valiantly to get back things back on track (1:51:00). Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. Kevin and John are keeping the video game train rolling this week, although John's dipping his toes into a little tabletop action, as well… But before we get to that, John is still spending loads of time with Monster Hunter: Rise and itching to sync up with some pals for an online multiplayer session—we'll definitely have to check back in (again) once he does some cooperative monster hunting! Kevin also gives a shout out to Ynglet, the latest game from indie game ‘legend' Nifflas, before we dig deeper into what's been consuming the majority of our time this week. We gab quite a bit about the brilliantly designed (and absolutely gorgeous) Iris and the Giant, a lovely deckbuilding puzzle-strategy roguelite that Kevin has been having an extremely difficult time putting down, ever since picking it up! And John has been spending a bunch of free time preparing his army for battle in Warhammer 40,000—everything from researching the many different factions to painting the figurines! Finally, we wrap up with a discussion about Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which Kevin has been playing a good deal of, lately. We're both incredibly mixed on this game, for a multitude of different reasons, as it does so many things right, while missing the mark in more than a few ways...will Kevin see this one through to the end? Timestamps: Monster Hunter: Rise - 00:01:48 Ynglet - 00:04:02 Iris and the Giant - 00:08:46 Warhammer 40,000 (tabletop) - 00:16:42 Paper Mario: Sticker Star - 00:25:41 Thanks so much for taking the time to listen! Welcome to Episode 69, where we disappointingly start WITHOUT GAME FUEL no thanks to the local gas station running out! But spirits must be kept high and we truck on and discuss a few NICE moments in video games, including a game made by Marcus's high school classmates with a pump action squirt gun. In further discussion, Marcus discusses the great value of Clubhouse Games 51 Worldwide Classics with his favorite game, Mastermind and regales us with a depressing tale from his youth. And unsurprisingly, Marcus is still playing PAper Mario Sticker Star which gets a big thumbs down! Justin didn't play anything this week, he finished Colony and spends some time giving it a review. After the TV discussion we move onto community engagement with the question "What's the most recent moment in video gaming that made you go, 'nice.' Not a ton of video game talk this week thanks to the upcoming holiday at the time of recording, but some amazing and hilarious discussion does happen! Marcus spends some time hating on Paper Mario Sticker Star and a little bit about Chibi Robo Ziplash being the worst game ever. He also talks about a cool new anime by Studio Trigger called BNA that everyone should check out. And for all you True Crime junkies out there, he talks about watching Unsolved Mysteries! Jusin doesn't have much more about Elite Dangerous to bring in, but he was recommended a new game called Shapez.io that just released on steam. Imagine if Satisfactory was 2d, and about shapes, and there you have it! He has also entered phase two of watching Colony, knowing he will regret continuing the series not knowing whether it has a solid conclusion or not, which then leads to talking about finishing Symbiotic Titan which was an amazing show with an amazingly underwhelming "ending." This also ended up leading into a deep dive into voice actor David Posehn's long career as a background character for some reason. This week our famous Community Engagement segment also returns with the question, "What is our favorite summer video gaming memory?" Listen in to hear all the great answers!

It's just kind of a lazy week right now. Jon and Sean are playing through Paper Mario Sticker Star as well as Skrillex Quest and some more Super Hexagon. Nathan is playing A Virus Named TOM and Little Inferno. News is short but we discuss the various leaked images of the final Nintendo Power, Bioshock Infinite getting delayed and Europe's bizarre M-rated WiiU games rules.
The Wii U barrage continues this week! In our first segment, Neal, Scott, Patrick, Mike, and Zach all talk about the third party games they've been playing for infantile console. Batman Arkham City, Black Ops 2, Madden 13, Epic Mickey 2, Trine 2, Little Inferno, Darksiders 2, and a whole bunch of other games get discussed in detail here. If you've been on the fence about what to pick up after Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U, this is the segment for you. After that, Patrick, Scott, and Tyler go in-depth with divisive Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Is the paper plumber's latest adventure worth playing despite a few hurdles? We think so! Next week, we plan on doing a Listener Mail segment, so if you have thoughts about Wii U or anything else, send them to connectivity@nintendoworldreport.com. See you next week!

No updates required to enjoy our WiiU day 1 impressions, and it comes with a free Halbred! Step right up and enjoy the latest gaming goodness from the Nintendo Free Radio crew. Stephen gets the now-traditional music game out of the way early in New Business by touching on the Ubisoft creation app Jam Sessions, which draws comparisons to Windows 3.1, before getting stuck with Austen on the latest Nintendo RPG/platformer hybrid Paper Mario Sticker Star. Donald accepts his WiiU-less fate by going ungodly old school with Donkey Kong: Original Edition (it's a CEMENT factory, thankyouverymuch) and shockingly doesn't want to punch himself out after partaking in Urban Champion (3D Classics), before wrapping with an extended and spirited discussion of the demo for Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion. Austen brings us to the break with a wrap-up of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, proof that one can play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 without having to deal with the average internet user, and unleashes holy hell (and man beams) in El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron. After the break, a wild Halbred appears as the crew ropes in Nintendo World Report features editor Zach Miller for a heavy round of Whatcha Been Watchin' that travels from the sewers of New York in TMNT 2012 to the local arcade for Wreck-It Ralph and wraps in London with Sherlock Holmes In The 22nd Century, Goldeneye, QI, and Where On Earth is Carmen Sandiego? Also included: The finals of the "Weirdest Anime Ever" contest, between FLCL and Hellsing Ultimate. Since this show was taped on November 18th, of course the feature discussion is Wii U: Day 1. Zach and Stephen both got their systems day 1, and despite the best efforts of upgrade servers manage to touch on the Wii transfer process, the eShop, and Stephen's early impressions of Nintendoland. An extra helping of Mushrooms takes us out with love for This Year Collection (http://www.thisyearcollection.org) and free dumping, hatred of Alaskan rocks, and a host falling on his sword (but recovering to help unlock Red Velvet). We will return in a couple of weeks, but you can leave feedback for the show here or by sending an email to nintendofreeradio@gmail.com. Also, be sure to check out the Movember page of Ryan MacNeil (Donald's roommate) at http://mobro.co/ryanmacneil1 and hear Zach regularly on NWR's Connectivity and the Frozen North Dinnercast at Crosstawk (http://www.crosstawk.com/newbusiness/category/the-frozen-north-dinnercast). Neal wrangled Scott on down to the Connectibies 3DS Release Date Round-Up and the two of them hooted and hollered over the hootenanny that is the 3DS late 2012 lineup. The gang celebrate games they want, like Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, while lamenting the delay of Castlevania: Long-Ass Name 3D and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
