The spring transfer portal window has officially closed, and the "portal insanity" that was supposed to ensue in Columbus didn't really come to fruition. Dallan Hayden was the biggest name that entered the portal, but that was no surprise after Tony Alford departed Ohio State to take the RB coaching gig at Michigan. Meanwhile, after we were told for months that it was inevitable for one of the QB's to hit the portal, not a single one entered their name and Ryan Day will have all five of his guys on roster heading into the upcoming college football season. While all signs were starting to point to Will Howard being the starter, does the fact that all the QB's stayed mean that multiple guys think they can still win the job? Every Saturday during the college football season, the spirit of competition and excitement take the field as the nation's top student-athletes battle for gridiron glory. The powerhouses in college football are teams like Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Florida, all of whom compete in the fiercely contested NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. Whether it's a hard-fought rivalry, chaotic scene in the stands, or an unbelievable touchdown grab, college football fans of all ages, backgrounds, and regions experience the same passion and intensity each week. From the blue-blooded programs to the rising stars, college football will always be the people's game. Ohio State Football is one of the most successful college football programs in history. With a total of 8 National Championships, the Buckeyes have established themselves as a powerhouse in the NCAA. Led by head coach Ryan Day, Ohio State has become known for its hard-hitting, aggressive defense and a high-octane offensive attack. While their recent success has been rooted in their strong recruiting class and their 2014 national championship, the program has a long and storied history in the college football world. On any given Saturday, the OSU faithful can be found inside the famous Ohio Stadium cheering on the scarlet and gray. Regardless of the opponent, each game brings out the passion and excitement that Ohio State fans are so well known for. Follow the Buckeyes and join the Buckeye Nation in their quest to reach another championship. Go Bucks!
The offseason is in full swing and we are going to do a series of position breakdowns on the show. We figured we would start with the glamor position for Ohio State: the tight ends. Wait, what? Alright, it might not quite be the marquee position for the Buckeyes, but it will be an important part of Chip Kelly's offense. How is the depth chart shaping up with fifth-year senior Gee Scott Jr., fourth-year junior Will Kacmarek who transferred in from Ohio University, sophomore Jelani Thurman, third-year sophomore Bennett Christian and fourth-year junior walk-on (who might not be a walk-on for much longer) Patrick Gurd? What can be expected from the group? How much 12 personnel will the Buckeyes deploy under Kelly's guidance? Dave Biddle and Matt Baxendell discuss that on today's show, plus: * It looks like the dust has settled on the transfer portal from OSU's perspective. There are a total of six Buckeyes who entered the portal during this window, but other than perhaps Dallan Hayden -- who was in line to be the No. 3 tailback -- it does not appear as though OSU lost anyone who was in the plans for meaningful playing time. Are we surprised none of the Buckeyes' quarterbacks entered the portal? * We take questions from our live audience on a variety of Ohio State football topics. All of that and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish. The spring transfer portal window has come and gone without Ohio State losing any key players.Six players from Ohio State entered the portal during the spring window, but none of them – running back Dallan Hayden, wide receiver Kyion Grayes, guard Enokk Vimahi, linebacker Nigel Glover and safeties Ja'Had Carter and Cedrick Hawkins – were in line to play major roles for the Buckeyes in 2024.As a result, Ohio State has secured one of college football's best and deepest rosters for the upcoming season even though it hasn't made any post-spring transfer additions yet. There aren't a ton of obvious targets available in the portal for the Buckeyes to upgrade their roster, leaving one major question mark at right guard, but the Buckeyes will have healthy competitions both along the offensive line and at quarterback going into preseason camp since they were able to keep their rosters intact at those positions. We begin this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays by recapping a largely uneventful spring transfer window in college football and why that's a good thing for the Buckeyes.Later, we talk about the lingering needs for Ohio State men's basketball and what options remain to fill them; a smaller-than-expected 2024 NFL draft class for Ohio State that still led to good fits for each of the four Buckeyes who were selected; and why it's a long shot for Ohio State's 2025 NFL draft class to break the all-time record for total selections even though it should be a prolific draft class. The full rundown:0:11: Post-spring roster retention went as well as Ohio State could have hoped1:55: An uneventful portal cycle was good news for OSU, even if it limits OSU's upgrade options4:23: There doesn't appear to be a plug-and-play, sure-fire upgrade available at right guard6:21: Ohio State's quarterback depth will be the envy of college football8:46: Across the board, there's far less talent in the portal now than there was in January10:43: Safety, running back are positions where Ohio State could another depth piece12:22: Defensive line, cornerback among positions where OSU's depth really stands out14:27: OSU should consider giving Inky Jones, TC Caffey scholarships if some remain open19:11: Basketball transfer options dwindling after OSU misses out on Trey Townsend, others21:51: Sean Stewart is the top remaining target for OSU, who must beat out competition for him23:23: Kris Parker, Elijah Saunders, Langdon Hatton among other possible forward targets25:41: OSU could use another center to back up Aaron Bradshaw, but there's no clear target28:47: OSU's 2024 NFL draft smaller than expected, but Buckeyes' picks set up to succeed36:16: Josh Proctor, Xavier Johnson most likely to make teams among undrafted Buckeyes40:10: Ohio State has as many as 20 prospects on NFL scouts' radars for 2025 draft44:56: A lot would have to go right for Ohio State to break the single-year draft pick record47:16: Ohio State should have a lot more picks in the first two days of next year's draft alone49:49: Will players with NFL draft decisions be as motivated to stay next year as this year?54:11: It shouldn't be forgotten how hard it is to get drafted when forecasting to next year54:52: Denzel Burke, Jack Sawyer, Emeka Egbuka among potential first-round picks in 202559:39: OSU won't have a lot of junior starters this year, leaving fewer early departure candidatesProgramming note: There will be no episode of Real Pod Wednesdays next week. RPW will return for its next episode on May 15.
In this episode of Believe in Buckeyes, Bryant Browning and Chimdi Chekwa discuss the end of spring ball and the challenges of being a play-calling head coach. They also analyze the quarterback competition at Ohio State and the transfer of Kyle McCord to Syracuse. The hosts debate whether McCord could potentially outperform Ohio State's next quarterback and the implications for the Buckeyes. They also discuss Syracuse's schedule and the possibility of a matchup between Ohio State and Syracuse in the playoffs. The episode concludes with a shoutout to Dallan Hayden, who committed to play for the Colorado Buffaloes.
The biggest loss for the Ohio State football team in the spring window of the transfer poral was undoubtedly running back Dallan Hayden. The Buckeyes brought in a stud in Quinshon Judkins in the winter transfer window leaving Hayden as RB3 on the Ohio State depth chart for Ryan Day's offense. After the departure of RB coach Tony Alford to Michigan, it was all but certain that Hayden would leave Columbus, despite being in line to man the RB1 responsibilities in 2025. The biggest shock for many, is that Hayden elected to transfer to Colorado and play for the mighty Coach Prime in Deion Sanders. Is this a good fit for Hayden, or is he becoming part of a toxic culture in the "playing for clicks" saga surrounding the Buffaloes, who have seen many players leave the program this spring? Dallan Hayden's departure from Ohio State leaves a hole in the running back room. RB coach Carlos Locklyn walks into a room that's a couple backs that are really experienced. The other backs in the room are talented, but haven't seen a lot of playing time. This is a big reason why the Buckeyes might need to look at one key avenue to fill the void in the room. During today's show, host Jay Stephens and Locked On's recruiting analyst Brian Smith discuss why the Buckeyes should consider using the transfer portal to replace Dallan Hayden. Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the transfer portal opening up Monday and the Ole Miss Rebels and Lane Kiffin has put itself in position to fill some needs April 15th-April 30th. Henry Parrish Jr has long been assumed that he will return to Ole Miss to go into a RB room that needs a player to fill that need. But what if Ole Miss is willing to do to the RB what Lane Kiffin did to the QB room a year ago when Jaxson Dart was the assumed starter but Kiffin brought in Spencer Sanders from Oklahoma State Cowboys, Walker Howard from the LSU Tigers and flipped Austin Simmons from the Florida Gators. Would Ole Miss Recruit a Dallan Hayden from the Ohio State Buckeyes or Damien Martinez from the Oregon State Beavers. Transfer Portal opens Monday. In the second segment of the show we talk about the Grove Bowl games and let everyone know about a programming note after the game. Will Lane Kiffin who is furiously trying to create a social following for this game be successful. Will this game tell us anything about Jaxson Dart, Tre Harris or Kedrick Reescano. Likely not and the fan base and Grove Collective members will have to wait a little longer to scratch that itch. In our final segment of the day we talk about an Official Visit has been set up for Corner Canyon, UT Wide Receiver Jerome Myles. If that high sounds familiar that is where Jaxson Dart went to high school. In the age of the Recruiting cycle speeding up you are going to see more Pre Season official visits. Ohio State's spring game will be headlined by a quarterback competition for the second year in a row. While Will Howard entered the spring as the frontrunner to start at quarterback, the competition has heated up over the past five weeks. Not only is Devin Brown pushing Howard for the starting job, but true freshman Julian Sayin is becoming a real factor in the competition, adding intrigue to Saturday's spring game as each of them looks to make their case that they should be Ohio State's starter this season.Jeremiah Smith, Caleb Downs and Ohio State's offensive line will also be in the spotlight on Saturday as Smith and Downs look to keep their hype trains rolling while the Buckeyes continue to evaluate whether they have the pieces they need on the right side of the offensive line. We discuss all of the top storylines entering the spring game on this week's Real Pod Wednesdays. To add a layer of fun to our spring game viewing experience, we also conducted a fantasy draft to pick the offensive skill-position players who we think will have the biggest spring games on Saturday. Each of us drafted one quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver, one tight end and one flex player – which both of us used on a second wide receiver – to build teams that will be scored using standard fantasy football scoring (one point per 25 passing yards, four points per passing touchdown, one point per 10 rushing/receiving yards and six points per rushing/receiving touchdown).Spring Game Fantasy Draft Picks:1. Dan – Jeremiah Smith, WR2. Andy – Quinshon Judkins, RB3. Andy – Carnell Tate, WR4. Dan – Julian Sayin, QB5. Dan – Jelani Thurman, TE6. Andy – Devin Brown, QB7. Andy – Brandon Inniss, WR (Flex)8. Dan – James Peoples, RB9. Dan – Bryson Rodgers, WR (Flex)10. Andy – Gee Scott Jr., TEIn the second half of the show, we discuss the state of Ohio State's running backs room following Monday's news that Dallan Hayden will enter the transfer portal. We wrap up the show by discussing all of the latest news on the Ohio State men's basketball front including the hirings of Joel Justus and Jamall Walker, John Calipari's reported interest in the job that ultimately went to Jake Diebler and the commitment of five-star point guard Marcus Johnson. The full rundown for this week's show:0:07: Quarterback competition is the big spring game storyline, especially with Julian Sayin's progress9:25: We're all excited to watch Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs play in the Shoe for the first time14:06: Ryan Day leaving the door open for a transfer addition on right side of offensive line19:54: C.J. We're finally back! Come hang out as we discuss Ohio State's decision not to hire John Calipari, Dallan Hayden deciding to transfer, and the absurd (and totally understandable) hype surrounding Jeremiah Smith.

Ohio State freshman quarterback Julian Sayin is now the fastest freshman quarterback to ever have his black stripe removed. No other Buckeye freshman quarterback has even had their black stripe removed in the spring. In this episode of the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr discuss what this means, how rare it is, how it compares to other positions, and how much their feelings have changed on whether or not Julian Sayin could actually win the starting job this season. The fellas then also discuss the departure of running back Dallan Hayden and wonder if Ohio State mishandled this entire situation.
Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about Dallan Hayden from Christian Brothers in Memphis from Ohio State Buckeyes entering the transfer portal when it opens. We talk Ulysses Bentley IV and Kedrick Reescano and Logan Diggs and Henry Parrish Jr from the Miami Hurricanes and look at Running Back Room construction for Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss Rebels. Will the Rebels take two Running Backs in the Transfer Portal this spring and how does that look going forward. In the second segment of the show we talk the Grove Bowl Games and wonder what Stakeholders will be able to take out of the event. We look at Tre Harris vs Trey Amos as a potential marquee event to watch in the 7v7 portion of the games but I wonder if this was a missed opportunity to raise money for the Grove Collective and also say thank you for the members that are paying the salaries of the players. We wonder out loud about watching some of the young stars play in front of the members of the Collective as a reward for them donating. In our final segment of the day we talk about recruiting and the commitment of Daphne, Ala Defensive Lineman Talib Graham. He is a player tailor made to fit as a Jack and reminds me a bit of DeeJay Holmes watching the video. Ole Miss also hosted Dillon Alford from Saraland earlier this week. This just in. Ohio State will be losing their third-string running back, Dallan Hayden, to the spring window of the transfer portal. After TreVeyon Henderson returned to Columbus and Ryan Day brought in Quinshon Judkins from Ole Miss, it became clear that Hayden was not going to be much of a focal point of the 2024 Buckeye offense. However, given the recent departure of ex-RB coach Tony Alford to Michigan, is there a chance that Hayden reunites with his former coach in Ann Arbor? The Drive Hour 2 "Will Dallan Hayden be a Vol?" 4.8.24 by Fanrun Radio
Multiple reports are stating that Ohio State running back Dallan Hayden is set to enter the transfer portal. What does this mean on all fronts? Join us on the Big Me Kickoff as we talk it through.
A CBJ-shorty with Ryan Baker tonight! We heard from Caleb Downs, Quinshon Judkins, and Dallan Hayden as spring ball rolls along, OSU had a big recruiting weekend, and Oregon will have a "Black Out" when they host the Buckeyes this fall.
Ryan Day allowed Tony Alford to decide how to divide the playing time at running back for Ohio State, so we presume the same will be true with Carlos Locklyn coaching the Buckeyes' RBs. Day has not been shy about calling it "the best running back room in the country" and that begs a question: How will the carries be divided between TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins? Are we expecting something in the 50/50 range presuming they both stay healthy? How much action will Dallan Hayden see this year? What about true freshman James Peoples? Also, the more we hear about Locklyn, the more we are impressed. Does he have one of the most interesting backgrounds of any Ohio State coach in recent memory? We sure think so and we cannot wait to interview him when he arrives in Columbus. We think Day hit another home run here in what has been an incredible offseason for his program. Speaking of interviewing Ohio State coaches and players, here is the list of names that will be available after practice today at 11:15 a.m: Judkins, Hayden, James Laurinaitis, Matt Guerrieri, Caleb Downs, Josh Simmons and Mitchell Melton. It has not taken Laurinaitis long to show his recruiting chops and zero Bucknutters are surprised about that. Matt Baxendell and Dave Biddle discuss all of that on today's show. Also, what is Bax's take on the quarterback situation for the Buckeyes? That is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish. The Ohio State Buckeyes are now two-thirds of the way through their spring practice schedule, and there is a lot to talk about around the program. New RB coach Carlos Locklyn was at practice on Wednesday, and Tony Gerdeman of BuckeyeHuddle.com was there to get some initial impressions from OSU running backs Quinshon Judkins and Dallan Hayden. Plus, with starting safety Lathan Ransom still working his way back from injury, and backup Malik Hartford out for the spring, a pair of young safeties are making the most of their opportunity. All that and more on this episode of the Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning podcast.
Ohio State will open spring camp in three weeks with a pair of running backs with over 2,000 yards rushing in their respective careers. They will also have a quarterback room featuring three former 5-star prospects, which doesn't even include a quarterback with 27 career starts or another with over 10,000 yards passing in high school. In this episode of the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, Tom Orr and Tony Gerdeman preview spring practice for the Ohio State backfield. Can Will Howard make a move this spring on Devin Brown? How many reps will freshmen Air Noland and Julian Sayin receiver? And are people forgetting about Lincoln Kienholz? At running back, what will TreVeyon Henderson's role be this spring? How quickly can Quinshon Judkins find his footing? What kind of spring should we expect from Dallan Hayden? Will James Peoples or Sam Williams-Dixon be able to make some noise as true freshmen? The fellas discuss all of these things while also answering a couple of listener questions about the running backs, discussing the ultra-rare transfer of a Michigan football player to Ohio State, and also discuss 2026 WR commit Chris Henry's move to California and what that could mean for the Buckeyes.
The Ohio State offense that takes the field this Friday in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri is going to have a very different look than the Buckeye team that last played in Ann Arbor in November. Quarterback Kyle McCord is gone, replaced by Devin Brown. Three scholarship running backs are gone, leaving only TreVeyon Henderson and Dallan Hayden. Marvin Harrison, Jr. is not expected to play and Julian Fleming has transferred to Nebraska, leaving Emeka Egbuka, Xavier Johnson, and a big opportunity for young standouts like Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss. And with Cade Stover limited by injury, could this be a breakout game for other tight ends like Gee Scott or Jelani Thurman?Kevin Noon of BuckeyeHuddle.com joins host Tom Orr to break down the new-look Buckeye offense as it prepares for a top-10 showdown in the Cotton Bowl. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5626222/advertisement
The Buckeyes have signed seven players from Ohio so far in their 2024 recruiting class, but is that enough? Ohio State has let some talented in-state prospects go to other schools without recruiting them all that seriously. This is a topic of conversation every single year and so Buckeye Huddle's Tom Orr and Tony Gerdeman have that conversation again today. Also in this episode of the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, the fellas answer other listener questions involving Ohio State hosting a playoff game down the road, Dallan Hayden's role in 2024, the running back room next year if TreVeyon Henderson comes back, special teams recruiting, and having thick skin when it comes to recruiting. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2630697/advertisement
On this Thursday episode of Buckeye Talk, the crew gets back to their roots while discussing Ohio State's upcoming top-10 matchup with Penn State. It's been a while since the podcast has had an episode go for almost two hours but a game with significant Big Ten and College Football Playoff implications makes it well worth it. Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis discuss Saturday's game using six simple questions that sum up everything that will matter: Should Ohio State still be trying to redshirt Dallan Hayden given the state of the running back room? How ready is Kyle McCord for his second big game as starting quarterback? What's the best unit between OSU's offense and defense and PSU's offense and defense? What's the most important positional matchup in deciding who will win the game? Who is an Ohio State offensive and defensive player who can use this game to make a name for himself? On this Wednesday episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis react to the comments from Ohio State's head coach Ryan Day and Jim Knowles as OSU prepares to face Penn State. Among the things discussed: Should Ohio State still be trying to redshirt Dallan Hayden given the state of the running back room? How ready is Kyle McCord for his second big game as starting quarterback? Could Jermaine Mathews step up as a freshman cornerback if Denzel Burke can't play? Is there a rotation forming at Will linebacker? Plus much more. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Penn State week has arrived and on today's show Dave Biddle and Dan Rubin take a close look at the Ohio State-PSU matchup and how the No. 3 Buckeyes stack up against the No. 7 Nittany Lions. Penn State's national statistical rankings are impressive (No. 2 scoring defense and No. 5 scoring offense in the country) but the Nittany Lions haven't played a good team yet. Of all the Big Ten teams, only Michigan has played a weaker schedule up to this point. Ohio State has had a tougher slate and the Buckeyes have put up strong numbers themselves (No. 3 scoring defense and No. 20 scoring offense in the land). However, this will unquestionably be their most difficult test of the season thus far. The Nittany Lions haven't really played anyone this year, but they have an extremely talented roster. Now these two undefeated heavyweights will finally square off in Columbus on Saturday (noon ET; FOX) and we talk all about it on the Monday 5ish. We also wonder if Dallan Hayden should get more playing time at running back for OSU, even if all the other backs are able to get healthy. Ohio State got out of Purdue still undefeated. Now it can shift all of its focus solely on a top-10 matchup with Penn State. But its 41-7 win over the Boilermakers still provides some interesting topics to discuss that might matter down the road. The Buckeye debut a new role for backup quarterback Devin Brown in the form of a red zone pack that can help fix the problems in the run game; Once again Dallan Hayden was called upon to be the guy as the running back room continued to deal with injuries. Do they need to forget trying to redshirt him and give him a real role? Did OSU show enough to let you feel confident in what they'll perform like next Satuday. Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis discuss that and more on this postgame episode. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Ryan Day and Jim Knowles spent Tuesday's presser in preparation for Ohio State's matchup with Purdue providing plenty of things to talk about. Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis use a Wednesday episode of Buckeye Talk to discuss all of it. That starts with a conversation about whether OSU needs Emeka Egbuka on Saturday after the star wide receiver left a win over Maryland with an injury. Then we discuss Day revealing why Dallan Hayden has had practically no role this season and why that may be a good thing for OSU's future. But the bulk of the discussion is centered around the ongoing issues on the offensive line as the most prominent thing about the 2023 roster. Does Ryan Day think things can get better, or will it one day be the downfall of the season? Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
