We're just hours away from the 2023 Peach Bowl and Penn State football's chance to go six-for-six and win every New Year's Six Bowl game. To do it, they'll have to beat Ole Miss, led by head coach Lane Kiffen. In order to learn more about the team, we're connecting with an old friend. Former Blue White Illustrated reporter David Eckert joins the show to discuss Ole Miss, the team he now covers. He joins the show for the first time since his move down South to give us a better understanding of the team Penn State faces. Penn State defense facing a balanced offense We start the show by getting to know the Ole Miss offense. Jaxson Dart is a fan favorite for his team and someone Eckert thinks Penn State fans would love. But who has the quarterback advantage? We'll discuss the matchup and how Dart operates the Ole Miss offense. This week, Penn State defensive end Adisa Isaac assessed the offense he'll face this weekend. They bring a lot of challenging aspects to the game that don't have to with skill. "Yeah, I say definitely the tempo and the personnel. They know how to get their skill guys into space and make plays. We kind of pride ourselves on stopping the run all year, and this is a team that has some good backs that run hard and some good receivers as well. So they're pretty balanced in that aspect. So we've just got to do a good job of locking that down," Isaac said. The running game is a focus of our conversation, as well as how Ole Miss will face off against Penn State. However, we end the conversation discussing Tre Harris and his impact on the game. Ole Miss defense is "multiple" According to Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, the most noticeable aspect of the Ole Miss defense is their multiplicity. "Yeah, we've been saying it all bowl prep that they're a very multiple team, play a lot of even and odd fronts. So we're going to have to be tight on communication up front, whether it's run-blocking schemes or pass protection," Allar said. We discuss that diversity and what it might be trying to mask up front for Penn State's next opponent. Will the loss of Cedric Johnson affect that group? Opt-in Culture Finally, we'll discuss that there are only a few opt-outs on either sideline. Penn State has several players that could opt out of the game but decided to play. The same is true for Kiffen's side, where Johnson is the only player not participating. Head coach James Franklin says that it's not by accident that Penn State is nearly at full strength. "Yeah. I think you guys have heard me talk about this in the past. These are different times in college football, and we've worked really hard to create a relationship with our players that there can be open and honest dialogue and discussions," he said. "We've tried to create an environment where really there's no reason for any player to opt-out. What I mean by that is all the way back to Saquon Barkley, who was being projected as a top 15 pick, there's a way to do this where the player, the family, the agents, whoever, everybody's comfortable with the plan." On the show today is Dave Eckert, Pastor and Social Worker who is passionate about connecting with people where they are at while offering support that is both Biblically based and holistically focused. A great highlight about Dave is he is best known for cracking the code when it comes to the intersection of community mental health and faith or the church. A big concern for churches is how do they find organizations in the community that they can trust and how can they build partnerships or perhaps start a community relationship. Penn State football enters its third week of spring football today, which is the focus of the BWI Live show. Host Thomas Frank Carr, senior Editor Nate Bauer, and reporter Dave Eckert discuss the notable players and topics of the week at noon and other topics related to Penn State's spring practices. Join the show at noon on YouTube to get your questions in and participate in the show! Penn State head coach James Franklin spoke with the media late last week and discussed several topics. One of the most revealing topics is the development of transfer wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley. The former Western Kentucky Hilltopper drew high praise from head coach James Franklin. What did he say, and what can it mean for the Nittany Lion's passing attack next season? The BWI Live crew discusses the impact he has had this spring. Franklin also gave new insight into new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz's defense. How much of a learning curve are players on that side of the ball this spring? The panel will tackle that topic as well. Next, they'll stay on the defense and break down the veteran leadership situation. So who is stepping up as a team leader? Where can more leadership develop? That's a question that Franklin did not have an answer for last week, so BWI will sink their teeth into that topic as well. Finally, they will discuss standout Penn State players so far this spring that Franklin brought up. Which young Nittany Lions are ahead of expectations? And is there any update on the offensive line situation for Penn State? You'll also hear from Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and his thoughts about the freshmen on his roster. He had rave reviews for the Penn State running backs and explained the learning curve for the quarterbacks. As always, join the show and ask your questions or suggest topics you'd like to hear BWI discuss on the show. But you can only do that if you join the BWI Live show at noon on YouTube! Penn State basketball got an and-one of good news yesterday, and basketball reporter Dave Eckert joins the BWI Daily Edition to discuss it. He and host Thomas Frank Carr lay out the impact that Class of 2023 point guar Logan Imes can have before teasing out the threads of Myles Dread's return to the team. Finally, they give a quick preview of Penn State football's second open practice. The biggest news for hoops on Wednesday was the commitment of 2023 point guard Logan Imes. The 6-4 point guard from Indiana is friends with a fellow commit in '23, Braeden Shrewsberry, the son of head coach Micah Shrewsberry. Eckert gives his thoughts on what Imes brings to the Nittany Lions and what he can be in the Penn State offense under the elder Shrewsberry. Next, T-Frank asks about Imes' ranking. On3 does not rank the Zionsville point guard or its consensus ranking, which has raised some fans' concerns. So what is the disconnect? Eckert explains why that is and how that can change this year. Finally, they discuss Imes' profile as a basketball player. What are his strengths, and where does he need to improve? While Imes considers himself a creative basketball player, Eckert sees one area that has to improve before he steps on the court for the Nittany Lions in the future. After that, they move on to the news that senior guard Myles Dread is returning to Penn State for his extra year of COVID eligibility. How does his return affect the team? More importantly, will he be ready to contribute next fall after having surgery on a torn labrum in his shooting shoulder? T-Frank gives a very general timetable for recovery from such an injury and then asks Eckert what Dread can bring to the team if he's less than 100% during the season. Eckert looks at the roster and sees one key component missing that Dread can bring to the table. Aside from that, T-Frank points out that Dread just proved that he could be effective at less than his best. Finally, they consider the transfer portal and what Penn State has been able to bring to the program under Shrewsberry. Their last topic for the day is a quick preview of Penn State football's second open spring practice. So what are they expecting to see today? Also, what do they want to know from the post-practice interviews? Eckert and T-Frank give their thoughts on what burning questions they have for the second week of spring practice. It was a big day for Penn State football, as the team opened up spring practice for the 2022 season. Blue White Illustrated had the day covered from morning until night, culminating with the BWI Live Show at 8:30 pm on YouTube. Join host Thomas Frank Carr, reporter Dave Eckert, and senior editor Nate Bauer to discuss what they heard and saw on Monday. Bauer gives his thoughts on the tone, and tenor Franklin set with his comments. They start with the offensive line and the depth chart that head coach James Franklin laid out during his press conference. It's a very thin group of scholarship players, many of which are also young. How will that play out this spring? The trio will give their thoughts. They'll also discuss the quarterback situation and Franklin's comments about how he plans to divvy up the reps this spring among four scholarship quarterbacks. Next, they discuss Franklin's downplaying some of the young talents on the roster from the Class of 2022. So is that a concern? Bauer, Eckert, and T-Frank will weigh in. Next, they'll discuss what they saw during Penn State's open practice. All three panelists were in attendance Monday afternoon and will give their thoughts about what they saw in the brief open window on Day 1. Bauer spent his time with the defenders and new defensive coordinator Manny Daiz, while T-Frank saw the offense. They'll give their impressions of players, coaches, and more. Finally, they'll dive into Athletic Director Sandy Barbour's final spring press conference. Penn State football is only a few weeks away from the start of spring practice, and questions abound about who is standing out, who needs to stand out, and what to expect later this month. That's why the BWI Daily Edition takes your questions once a week. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Dave Eckert take questions submitted to the show through Twitter or the BWI message board. Want to submit a question to T-Frank? Join BWI and get access to the Lion's Den! Note: Today's episode was recorded before Penn State's max testing day. A breakdown of what BWI saw and heard at Holuba Hall will come to you on Friday's edition. After reviewing the day's activities that have yet to happen, they start with a question about spring practice and which players or positions T-Frank and Eckert are keen to learn more about this year. He also asks if any players have stood out so far in winter workouts that have leaked to the media. T-Frank answers the first part of the questions with the answer to the second. Meanwhile, Dave lists several players he wants to know more about this spring. Next, they transition to several questions that lead to a long conversation about the defensive line. Should Amin Vanover play defensive end or tackle? T-Frank gives some thoughts about the defensive tackle position and Vanover's fit on the edge. After that, they answer a question about Adisa Issac's availability this winter for conditioning. After wrapping up their discussion about the defensive line, T-Frank and Eckert look at Penn State linebacker Ellis Brooks. Brooks is not at the combine, and one viewer wants to know why he's such an afterthought in the draft process. T-Frank and Eckert give their thought. From there, they get into depth chart predictions for the spring. One viewer wants to know who the starters and backups will be along the offensive line this spring, while two others have questions about the special teams unit and who will kick for the Nittany Lions. This spring, Penn State won't have its full compliment at either position, but T-Frank and Eckert discuss that situation. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices. The month of March starts tomorrow, which means things open back up for Penn State football shortly. The BWI Live crew of Nate Bauer, Dave Eckert, and Thomas Frank Carr prepare you for spring practice with an in-depth look at the Nittany Lions' roster. However, they start with the highlights of the Class of 2022, Penn State's five-star players. Bauer went through the last ten years of recruiting information to determine how the top quarterbacks, running backs, and defensive ends have performed in their first year. So he shares his findings with the group and extrapolates that to quarterback Drew Allar, running back Nick Singleton, and defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton. Two of those players, Allar and Singleton, are early enrollees at Penn State who are already a part of winter conditioning and will participate in spring practice. So next, the trio gets into their projections and expectations for the spring. To start, each panelist gives a player who wants to see at each position and why. Over the next two weeks, they'll take a look at the entire roster, but they'll start with the offense this week. Next, they'll ask for your questions and then have their weekly prediction competition. This week's topic will be standout players from spring practice. Which Nittany Lion will get the most publicity from his coaches and teammates? Each panelist will give their prediction, and fans will vote on their favorite argument and player. T-Frank will count up the votes and announce a winner at the show's end. Finally, they discuss Penn State basketball's lopsided loss to Nebraska last night at the Bryce Jordan Center. It was a rough senior night, losing 93-70 to the 8-21 Cornhuskers. What went wrong? Penn State has now dropped two of three after needing to win out for postseason hopes. The group will discuss the last game and the season to finish the show. JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-... This week, Penn State football has a new round of winter workout winners, and they take center stage during the BWI Daily Edition Mailbag show. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Dave Eckert answer your questions and discuss the day's breaking news for Penn State recruiting. Before they get to the weekly mailbag, they start with the news of the day. On Thursday, Penn State commit for the Class of 2023, Jven Williams, was given a fifth and final star by On3. It's a part of the updated rankings for the Class of 2023, which will be released next week. T-Frank and Dave discuss how the news impacts Penn State's current recruiting class, and why Williams is impressive. T-Frank goes into what he saw on film from Williams that made him think he could play tackle down the road for the Nittany Lions if he continues to develop. After that, they get to your questions during this week's mailbag episode. They start with a question about the transfer portal. Unlike most questions, one Lions Den Message Board member is interested in who might be leaving the program and what the numbers are like for potential transfers. Eckert keeps track of the scholarship numbers this offseason and tells T-Frank where Penn State is now. They also discuss a much broader topic about player progression due to the COVID-19 disrupted Class of 2020. How badly did that year disturb the progress of players coming to Penn State as freshmen? T-Frank and Eckert admit there's no way to tangibly know the answer but discuss different players and situations that arose from the pandemic. Other topics they dive into include which players had stood out in winter conditioning previously and at the time of recording on Thursday when a fresh batch of social media announcements from the staff went out. What does it mean that freshman defensive tackle Zane Durant keeps showing up as one of the weekly winners of the workout sessions? T-Frank and Eckert discuss the situation at defensive tackle. After several other questions, they land on a pair of questions about the 2022 season. One viewer asks if Penn State will target the tight ends less next season, while another asks if they will be targeted more. T-Frank and Eckert dissect the opposing viewpoints and provide context they've gathered from the Penn State coaching staff. Finally, they wrap up with Eckert's quick Penn State Basketball update. This week, Penn State basketball took a step forward with two key wins in the Big Ten. First, they secured an upset victory over Michigan State on Tuesday night. Next, trounced Minnesota in a COVID-19 rescheduled game 67-46 yesterday afternoon to start a potential winning streak. Basketball reporter Dave Eckert joins the BWI Daily Edition to discuss that and a look ahead to a critical part of the Nittany Lions' schedule. First, he and host Thomas Frank Carr have a fun discussion about the 2022 NFL Draft. Penn State's lone player that seems to be a projected first-round draft pick is wide receiver, Jahan Dotson. However, most mock draft sites see him as a late Day One pick. So T-Frank and Eckert go through the final seven teams in the draft to find the best fit for the former Nittany Lion. The list includes: 25) Buffalo Bills 26) Tennessee Titans 27) Tampa Bay Buccaneers 28) Green Bay Packers 29) Miami Dolphins (via SF) 30) Kansas City Chiefs 31) Cincinnati Bengals 32) Detriot Lions (via LAR) Which team has the right blend of talent, scheme fit, and need? T-Frank and Eckert discuss. After that, they dive into Penn State Basketball's demolition of Minnesota on Thursday afternoon. What led to such a dominant performance? How did Penn State finally put a complete game together? T-Frank asks Eckert those questions and more about Penn State's back-to-back wins. Eckert also points out a pivotal bonus to the Lion's lopsided win over Minnesota that can serve them well late in the season. Additionally, he asks for updates on several key players and their performance in the most recent victories. What is the status of Greg Lee? They wrap up the show discussing when Penn State needs to enter the conversation for postseason play under first-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices. Two Penn State football players are Super Bowl champions this morning. The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI last night in LA. Starting safety Nick Scott and backup corner Grant Haley earned their first Super Bowl rings as a part of the Rams. The BWI Live crew of Nate Bauer, Dave Eckert, and Thomas Frank Carr will discuss that and more on the BWI Live Monday Recap show. They'll start with the Super Bowl and discuss the fanfare around the game, the moments that stood out, and the unique stories of Scott and Haley. While they'll only spend a short time on the game last night, they will discuss Penn State's next round of NFL hopefuls later in the show. Before that, they'll look at the current Nittany Lions, who are amid winter workouts. The only window into that world right now is the social media tweets from positional coaches each day. Should Penn State fans read into this? Who needs to stand out? The group will give their thoughts. Next, they'll look ahead to the spring. The official start date of spring practice came out last week, so with just over a month away, the trio will discuss the practices and what they're thinking about heading into next month. After that, they'll take questions from the audience and hear what you want to talk about with Penn State sports! Next, they'll get to the weekly competition between the panel. Which current Penn State prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft process will make the best pro? Each panelist will pick a player and explain why they think that player will be the best of this group. The audience is encouraged to vote on the topic to decide which argument is the best. Finally, they'll break down Penn State basketball's 76-70 loss to Minnesota on Saturday. Bauer and Eckert will discuss the defensive issues and turnover that led to the loss for head coach Micah Shrewsberry's squad, but they'll mostly talk about his comments from after the game. Shrewsberry called out the officiating for not giving Penn State's players a fair shake when calling fouls last week. Is that fair to say? Bauer and Eckert will examine the evidence and discuss it. This offseason, there might not be a bigger topic for Penn State football fans than the offensive line. Yes, quarterback always dominates the discussion but with sixth-year player Sean Clifford coming back to start another season, his protection is paramount. After a run of offensive line commits over the past two weeks, has Penn State gotten to the point that they will be markedly better in 2022? Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Dave Eckert debate that topic on the BWI Daily Edition. Dave takes the side of optimism on the show and gives his reasoning for Penn State taking a step forward next season up front. He sees the situation improving for several key factors that he lists out in his allotted time. Next, T-Frank, debating on the side of things not getting better, gives his argument. He points to one recurring issue that Penn State had heading into 2021 that they will have again in 2022. What is it? He details that problem and then explains why despite a surge in new players, not all of the pieces fit this offseason perfectly. After they wrap up their arguments, Dave and T-Frank have a chance to respond to the other's presentation with closing thoughts. Then, finally, they wrap up with a general discussion about the offensive line and where some of the issues, positive and negative, might go this year. From there, they discuss Penn State basketball's low-scoring loss to Michigan at the Bryce Jordan Center on Tuesday night. Dave explains how once again, the Nittany Lions put together a great effort but failed to come away with enough offense to win the game. What are the factors that led to this week's loss? How did Greg Lee's absence affect John Harrah? Eckert gets into those details, while T-Frank asks if there's a common theme in losing quality leads in games they need to win. Finally, Dave gives his thoughts before they wrap up, looking ahead to the next game. As the 2022 offseason marches on, current, former, and future Penn State football players are making news over the past week. The BWI Monday Live Show distills all of that information into 60 minutes to start each week. Join host Thomas Frank Carr, reporter Dave Eckert and senior Editor Nate Bauer live on YouTube today as they discuss various topics surrounding the football and basketball team. They'll start with updates to previous topics on the show over the past week. Penn State announced late in the week that they have reached a deal with the clothing brand Fanatics to sell player jerseys for the upcoming season. How will that work? How does that factor into players' names, images, and likeness deals? Bauer, Eckert, and T-Frank all give their thoughts about the news and how things are shaping up for head coach James Franklin in his push to keep the Nittany Lions on pace with the rest of college football. From there, they'll shift gears to the 2022 Senior Bowl, which wrapped up on Saturday. Former Penn State hybrid defender Jesse Luketa had a standout performance with two sacks and a fumble during the game. So how does that change his draft stock, if at all? The trio will give their thoughts. After that, they'll open up the show to questions from the live audience and give their thoughts on any opinions relevant to the week's topics. From there, they'll get into this week's game. First, each panelist will predict the breakout player for the 2022 season on offense and defense. Then, this week, they'll make a case for why that player is the correct answer, and then the audience will vote on who has the best answer. Finally, they'll discuss Penn State hoops and their recent, close loss to Wisconsin on the road. How did Penn State keep it close in the low-scoring affair? Then, Nate and Dave give their thoughts on the team as it heads into the home stretch of the 2022 regular season. There are multiple spinning plates for the Penn State football team this offseason, like every college football team. While the coaching staff is wrapping up the January contact period and junior days, the current Nittany Lions are hard at work preparing for next season. On top of that, the college football landscape is continually changing with NIL, the transfer portal, and more unforeseen changes ahead. To make sense of all of it, the BWI Live crew comes to you live at noon every Monday to talk about this week's Penn State sports topics. Host Thomas Frank Carr, senior editor Nate Bauer, and reporter Dave Eckert cover Penn State football, basketball, and hockey on this week's edition. They'll start with the state of Penn State football in the offseason. Then, they will give what they think are the most impactful facets of the 2022 offseason. Is it a lack of transfers? What about the traditional signing day coming up on Wednesday? Each panelist picks one topic they think is essential and presents their case. After that, they dive into news from the portal and then take your questions. If you'd like to be a part of the show, make sure you join at noon, only on YouTube. They'll answer a variety of topics and give their thoughts on listener opinions. Next, they will get into some predictions for the next season with the help of audience participation. Bauer, Ecker, and T-Frank will each answer the following questions: Penn State will win more games next season if: Penn State will lose more games next season if: Penn State will stay the same next season if: The audience will vote on which answer they like the best, and at the end of the third round, whoever wins the most rounds will be crowned champion of the live show. Finally, they'll discuss Penn State basketball, which plays against Iowa, tonight at 7 pm. The Nittany Lions have not played at home in almost a month and have suffered some tough road losses along the way. Bauer and Eckert will give their thoughts on the last several weeks and how Penn State can bounce back in the next month. Penn State football has not had nearly as much turnover as anticipated this offseason. The Nittany Lions have had just one transfer into the program and a handful left. However, that doesn't mean that there isn't more to come that hasn't been announced. Yet as it stands, Penn State enters the second week of the spring semester with their roster seemingly set. So how should Penn State fans feel about what head coach James Franklin and his staff have done so far? Do they have to make any changes before the spring? The BWI Live crew will talk about that and more today at noon. Host Thomas Frank Carr takes you through the essential topics of the week for Penn State football with senior editor of Blue White Illustrated Nate Bauer and reporter Dave Eckert. The trio will discuss the roster, important players this offseason, and more. They'll also take your questions live! So join the BWI Live show today at noon, only on YouTube. Penn State head coach James Franklin said that the team would be active in the transfer portal this offseason during his early signing day press conference. However, the spring semester has started at Penn State, and only one transfer, receiver Mitchell Tinsley, has joined the Nittany Lions. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't players in the portal that Penn State should be interested in bringing to campus. Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, brings up two players at the most critical position for Penn State to fill this offseason, offensive line. T-Frank starts the show by giving a quick scouting report of former Virginia right tackle Ryan Swoboda, and Vanderbilt left tackle Tyler Sheen. Swoboda's name has been linked to Penn State for a while now, with the 6-10 tackle entering the portal some time ago. So what should you know about his game? T-Frank explains what he's seen on tape. Sheen is relatively new in the portal, entering his name earlier in the week. T-Frank gives a quick summation of the three-year player at Vanderbilt and explains the pros and cons of each player. Next, he gives a quick preview of a future topic for Penn State football, the tight end room. The trio of young players at that position came into the season with high expectations set by Franklin after calling them the country's deepest room. Was it all as bad as it seems? T-Frank gives a quick preview of that topic, which he'll dig deeper into later this week. After that, he switches gears and brings in Blue White Illustrated's basketball reporters to talk about Penn State Hoops. The team has won three of their last four games and is now .500 in Big Ten competition. Senior Editor Nate Bauer and reporter Dave Eckert break down the team identity and their impressions of head coach Micah Shrewsberry in his first season. The spring semester for Penn State starts today, which means the Penn State football team is already back at it, gearing up for spring football. While there is truly no offseason in college football, today is an important transition that officially signals the end of 2021 and the preparation for 2022 beginning in earnest. It's also means that several highly-anticipated football players are now on campus and started their collegiate careers. To help kick off the offseason, BWI Live is back for their weekly Monday show. Dave Eckert, Nate Bauer, and Thomas Frank Carr will discuss the weekend's news and look forward to winter conditioning. Penn State has several key players enrolling early and starting class today. The gang will talk about which players stand out to them and how that group can influence next season. They also discuss which players might be hurt the most by not enrolling early and getting a jump start on their careers. The Nittany Lions have had several players, including cornerback Cam Miller, not enroll early as planned. It's also been an offseason of change so far for Penn State football. The trio will discuss what's happened this offseason, with several critical departures within the program, and evaluate how head coach James Franklin and his staff have managed the change. They will also look forward to see if any changes, good or bad, are on the horizon for the Nittany Lions. Tune in at noon to the BWI Live show, only on YouTube! Learn more about your ad choices. Penn State football entered its 2022 offseason with tumultuous news, with the eventual loss of two coordinators. It continued with six starter opt-outs of the Outback Bowl and has concluded with several players leaving the program early for the NFL. So with all of that change happening, what can Nittany Lions fans expect for 2022? Blue White Illustrated reporter Dave Eckert joins the BWI Daily Edition to discuss that exact topic. He has a list of 22 things to be optimistic about in 2022 for Penn State football, and he joins the show to talk about a few highlights from the list. Host Thomas Frank Carr also asks him to answer a listener-submitted question about the quarterback room in 2022. Finally, they finish the show talking about Penn State Basketball's big win on the road last night against Northwestern. The burning question on every fans' mind heading into the offseason is about Penn State's future at quarterback. Starter Sean Clifford announced that he would return for a sixth year shortly after the season, and some are worried that head coach James Franklin will not open up his job to competition. So will redshirt freshman Christian Veilleux or incoming freshmen Drew Allar and Beau Pribula have a real shot at unseating the incumbent? Eckert gives his thoughts on the matter. T-Frank is skeptical of Eckert's conclusion and shares his concerns about the subject. Next, they discuss three of Eckert's 22 reasons to be positive in 2022. What are his thoughts on the offense, youth, and transfers? Dave thinks that big things could be in store for the Nittany Lions on that side of the ball. Afterward, T-Frank adds one of his reasons to be positive based on what he saw in the Outback Bowl. Finally, they wrap up by talking about Penn State basketball's 74-70 win over Northwestern on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions have now won two Big Ten games in a row and have gotten solid play from key players. They discuss Seth Lundy's big night and what Dave thinks has changed since the team got a key player back from injury. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://bluewhiteillustrated.podbean.com/ Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Learn more about your ad choices. Penn State football takes on Arkansas tomorrow in the Outback Bowl, so BWI's Dave Eckert joins the show to give his thoughts on the eve of the game. He joins host Thomas Frank Carr to talk about the major storylines that have come up this week and share his thoughts on the matters of the day. They start with the biggest story of the week, Penn State's opt-outs and injuries. With left tackle Rasheed Walker out for the game, Eckert gives his thoughts on what he expects from backup Olu Fashanu. After that, they talk about the situations that prevented Fashanu from playing earlier in the year when Walker initially left the lineup. Next, they discuss the rash of defensive opt-outs for Penn State and how they will affect this game from a tactical standpoint. So how will the Nittany Lions fare with so many critical pieces missing up front? Eckert shares his thoughts on what to expect from those players. He also offers his insight and perspective on what fans should be looking for when watching the game. After dissecting the bowl game, they turn their attention to winter sports. But, unfortunately, with COVD-19 cases spiking across the country, things are not going according to Penn State Men's Ice Hockey or Penn State basketball plan. Eckert shares the situation with T-Frank and tells him which games have were canceled and what the two teams are doing to try and get a match in before returning to Big Ten play. Finally, Eckert and T-Frank discuss Penn State basketball recruiting. Eckert gives T-Frank the names to know and who to watch for with Penn State's efforts to build the program's future under new head coach Micah Shrewsberry. The Penn State football team put together one of their most complete efforts of the season, shutting out Rutgers 28-0 on Senior Day. The team was led, not by fifth-year quarterback Sean Clifford in what might have been his final action at Beaver Stadium, but instead by true freshman Christian Veilleux. So how did Penn State go about generating their most explosive offense of the season with a freshman? Host Thomas Frank Carr, senior editor Nate Bauer, and reporter Dave Eckert break down the game on the BWI Live: Monday Recap Show! They look at each position group, storyline, and significant moment from the game and give you their thoughts. They also take your questions and comments about the game.
It's senior day on Saturday at Beaver Stadium for the Penn State football team. Typically this has been a time to celebrate outgoing classes and reflect on their accomplishments as they head on to the next chapter of their lives. But, is that the case anymore? On the BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr looks at the senior class and precisely two members in it as to whether or not they should return for their extra year of eligibility. First, senior tackle PJ Mustipher exited in early October with a season-ending injury. Should he come back for one more season to put tape on film for NFL scouts? T-Frank weighs the pros and cons of Mustipher's upcoming decision. T-Frank spends the bulk of the first segment considering the future of signal-caller Sean Clifford. The fifth-year senior could come back for a future season, but does that do him any good for his NFL future? On the flip side, does Penn State want him back? Finally, would it be good for the team and fans to have Clifford under center in 2022? T-Frank looks at some key factors that would determine Clifford's success based on his performance this season and some stark contrasts in critical metrics. He also plays some comments from James Franklin about players that will directly impact that situation in the future. Next, T-Frank checks in with basketball reporter Dave Eckert about the Penn State Hoops team and their upset loss on the road to UMass Monday night. He gets the scoop on what happened, why Penn State struggled, and what it means for the team going forward. They also discuss the program as a whole under first-year coach Micah Shrewsberry and what casual fans need to know as the season ramps up at the Bryce Jordan Center. The staff of Thomas Frank Carr, Nate Bauer and Dave Eckert discuss those topics and more on the show. First, some exciting news. Next they look at his supporting cast and delve into what the offensive identity for Penn State is right now, and how it may or may not need to change going forward. They examine the performance of the receivers as well. Finally, they get into the running game issues and how Penn State once again did not run the ball well overall. They do point out some areas of improvement, as well as an interesting choice by offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich in his play-calling tendencies. Next they switch to the defensive side of the ball and discuss the secondary. Does this unit need to be perfect for Penn State to win games? Is it reasonable to ask more of them? They discuss that along with who stood out, good and bad, on Saturday. They give a good amount of attention to the defensive line, which had a bounce-back performance against Ohio State. Can they keep that up going forward? What about the linebackers? Can they gain some sort of consistency to help the overall play of the defense? They discuss that, and more, to end the show. The Penn State Football Team is about to begin the second half of the season this weekend when they host Illinois at Beaver Stadium. To get ready for the stretch run, Host of the BWI Daily Edition Thomas Frank Carr brings on writer at Blue White Illustrated Dave Eckert to take a look at the final six games and give some predictions. They begin with some True or False questions that T-Frank wants to know Dave's answers to. The questions include: - Penn State's defense will be able to overcome the loss of PJ Mustihper. - Jesse Luketa will have an equal number of pressures to Arnold Ebiketie. - The Penn State defensive starters will shut out at least one more opponent. - Penn State's rushing attack will have a statistically better output going forward. - Sean Clifford will play the majority of the snaps in the next six games. - Jahan Dotson will go over 100 yards receiving in more than three games to end the season. - Penn State will match their 5-1 record to start the season in the second half. Next they take a more open-ended look at the last stanza and discuss Penn State's chances of getting near or being in the conversation for the College Football Playoff. That question ultimately leads to the discussion of Penn State vs Ohio State and the Nittany Lions chances in that game. Finally they look at the key factors to success that they haven't discussed, take a stab at evolving the Penn State offense after the bye week and then give a quick preview of the game this weekend against Illinois.
