Listeners of Monday Morning Pastor that love the show mention: know what it means,The Monday Morning Pastor podcast is a valuable resource for pastors seeking encouragement, inspiration, and practical advice. With heartfelt content and the goal to uplift and support pastors in their ministry, this podcast has become a companion for many who are navigating the challenges and scars of pastoral work. The hosts, J.R. Briggs and Doug Moister, have deep, gracious hearts that shine through in their conversations with guests and their desire to care for the Church and its leaders.
One of the best aspects of The Monday Morning Pastor podcast is its authenticity. The hosts tackle real issues faced by pastors, discussing topics like burnout, self-care, leadership challenges, and the emotional toll of ministry. Their conversations are refreshing reminders that there is a tribe of pastors who understand these struggles and want to live faithfully in the midst of them. The questions they ask are thought-provoking and allow guests to share their wisdom and experiences. Additionally, the podcast features great guests who bring diverse perspectives and insights into pastoral life.
While it is difficult to find any significant flaws in this podcast, one possible downside could be its narrow focus on pastors. While it is understandable given the target audience, some non-pastoral listeners may feel excluded or unable to fully relate to certain topics discussed. However, as mentioned by Megan in her review above, this podcast offers resources that can be beneficial for anyone seeking transformational ideas and inspiration.
In conclusion, The Monday Morning Pastor podcast is an invaluable resource for pastors seeking encouragement and support in their ministry journey. With meaningful conversations, insightful questions, inspiring guests, and a genuine desire to care for leaders of the Church, J.R. Briggs and Doug Moister have created a space that reminds pastors they are not alone in their struggles. This podcast provides much-needed nourishment for the souls of pastors as they navigate the joys and challenges of shepherding God's people.
Doug has a great conversation with a dear friend fresh off his sabbatical. Cody has been in ministry for over 15 years and currently serves as a youth pastor in central PA. We hope you all have a great thanksgiving and enjoy time with family and friends. Thanks for all that you do as pastors and leaders. We'd love to hear from you. Drop us a line. Doug and Bob chat with professor and author Drew Keane about his book How to Use the Book of Common Prayer. You might be thinking, how does this relate to me, I am not an Anglican, nor do I want to be? I would challenge you and say that my own prayer life has been greatly impacted by the BCP over the past year. There is a richness to learning from prayer that is much older and broader than the traditions that are only a hundred years or so. Drew also, was part of the team that transposed and released the 1662 BCP. Also amazing!!!Drew's Book: How to Use the Book of Common Prayer: A Guide to the Anglican LiturgyWe'd love to hear from you. Doug and Bob chat with Pastor and author Caleb Campbell about the opportunities for discipleship and mission that are ahead of us in the election cycle. He brings into view some practical and creative ways to love and care for folks in your congregation who are living into the political fear in this season. Caleb has had a lot of experience in this world as his church was deeply impacted by the 2020 election. If your church is praying and actively working through ways forward or you are feeling the divide in your community during this election cycle, you are going to want to give this a listen to. Doug has a great chat with writer, editor, catechist and trained horticulturist — Julie Lane-Gay about her book on faith and liturgy titled The Riches of Your Grace. Julie has been shaped by and thought deeply about the ways in which the Book of Common Prayer has formed her and the gift it is to shape us in our ordinary life. I appreciate the ways in which liturgy has brought forward many deep parts of God's character and ways that we can enter into prayer in a natural and focused way. Both Bob and Doug were youth pastors, Doug was obviously better than Bob, but I digress. This episode Bob and Doug talk with youth ministry legend Tic Long who has seen the scope from the early years of youth ministry being a thing until now. It has the feel of a PBS documentary that could be next Ken Burns project. Tic Long has spent most of his adult life in youth ministry and leadership. He worked at Youth Specialties for 34 years. Most of those years he spent leading the National Youth Workers Convention, which he loved and poured his heart and soul into. Speaking of soul, Tic also had a killer soul patch. Doug and Bob talk with Jeff Haanen the founder of The Denver Institute for Faith and Work. Jeff has learned that real transformation takes place “from the inside out.” When emotional and spiritual health and the pursuit of truth gives birth to healthy work and thriving relationships, leaders are positioned to make long-lasting positive social and cultural impact. As pastors one of the most important aspects of our calling is to help our folks in the workforce thrive and see life in that sector as mission and important to the kingdom. We hope you enjoy this episode, share it with folks in your congregation who work in the public sector. We end this season with the place where MMP started 9 seasons ago. MMP is here because we feel the need to encourage and equip pastors on the hardest day of the week. Natalie brings an important word to pastors, “We aren't quitters. We are the stayers.” Her perspective is important and one that has often been overlooked. Lastly, thanks for sticking with us over the years, We hope this continues to be a blessing. We will be taking off August, and then coming back to a weekly rhythm starting in September. I have been a parent for 18 years now, my son is getting ready to go off to college and in the best of times I feel like I have been faithful as a father and in the worst of times, I feel like I have failed. I sense in the world of parenting the success is in the long game and truth be told, we may never fully know how things turn out. But this conversation is a great way to have a conversation that is hopeful and challenging as the same time. We hope you learn from this conversation and find the grace and mercy to continue to be a faithful parent. As our valued friends, we wanted to let you know about a timely and important FREE virtual event coming up: the Church Mental Health Summit on October 10. We're helping spread the word about this very needed summit, presented by Hope Made Strong and Spiritual First Aid. The summit's goal is to equip people as pastors, leaders, and volunteers, empowering them (and their congregations) to build a culture of care in their churches. We'd love for you to be a part of this event and share it with those in your circle. The more people who sign up and attend, the more churches and individuals we can help. Summit participants will hear from a diverse group of speakers in four categories: Global Health, Community Health, Church Health, and Leadership Health. They'll learn how to break down the stigma of mental health and receive resources, tools, and strategies to help better serve those with emotional distress—and the people who care about them. Our hope is that church leaders, pastors, and volunteers will take the tools from the Church Mental Health Summit and guide their churches to become safer places for desperate people to belong, be honest about their struggles, and find healing. Doug and Bob talk with Pastor Sean Palmer about preaching and the enneagram. This conversation is one that makes you stop and think about what we say, how we say it, and how it is heard. This is our second time having Sean on the show, we appreciate the energy, experience and wisdom to the pulpit. I would suggest having a notepad handy as you think about how you proclaim the good news in the weeks to come. We hope you are shaped by this. Doug and Bob talk with Pastor Jay Kim about ministry and formation in the digital age. Jay released a new book with IVP called Analog Christian: Cultivating Contentment, Resilience, and Wisdom in the Digital Age. We appreciate the way he enters into some of his own struggles and practices of formation as one who lives and pastors in the Silicon Valley. I think Jay hits on some really important things for us pastors to think about as we are leading our churches through the recovering our identities post – lock down. Doug talks with Pastor Jim Cymbala about ministry, and parts of his newest book Fan the Flame. Coming into the first “normal” fall we have had since 2019. Jim brings a prophetic word to pastors about being faithful to God and your calling as you lean into the faithfulness of the God who called you. We hope this brings strength and encouragement to you. Doug and J.R. talk with Trevor Hudson about health and life in ministry. Many in the US may have not had the opportunity of knowing Trevor through his writing and ministry in spiritual formation over the years. He is part of Renovare and has been in full time ministry as a pastor, and spiritual director for 40 years. Personally (for Doug), this interview captures the heart of why we continue to encourage pastors through The Monday Morning Pastor.
