Before Alijah Carnell ever played at Bishop Gorman or arrived at Penn State, his most important lessons came from home.Raised by a single mother who worked long hours in a predominantly male field, Carnell watched her lead through discipline, respect, resilience and an unwavering belief that no goal was out of reach. She became his first mentor, his greatest influence and the example behind the work ethic he now carries into Penn State Football. In this player profile, Carnell discusses learning football later than most players, struggling with anxiety and identity in high school, overcoming a torn labrum, following Coach Deion Barnes to Penn State and pursuing his goal of becoming elite at the sport he once walked away from.He also shares the standards his mother taught him, his excitement for playing inside Beaver Stadium and the mentality he hopes to bring to the Nittany Lions' defensive line.Presented by PAM Health: https://pamhealth.com/Chapters:00:00 Meet Alijah Carnell00:59 From Basketball to Defensive Tackle01:22 His Mom's Influence02:09 Battling Anxiety02:42 Learning Through Adversity03:16 Life at Bishop Gorman04:04 Why He Wanted to Come to Penn State04:28 Biggest Adjustment to Happy Valley04:53 Life Beyond Football05:22 Ready for Beaver StadiumFOLLOW STATE MEDIA HERE:► TWITTER | https://twitter.com/StateMediaPSU► TIKTOK | https://www.tiktok.com/@statemediapsu► INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/statemediapsu/► YOUTUBE | https://www.youtube.com/@StateMediaPSU?sub_confirmation=1► FACEBOOK | https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558183472272#pennstate #weare #CollegeFootball

Owen Alicience didn't begin playing football until he was 16 years old. Before becoming a Penn State offensive lineman, he was a hockey player who thought his high school coach was joking when he predicted that football could take him to the Division I level. His introduction to the sport was anything but easy. Alicience entered his first fall camp with no previous football experience, then faced two four-star edge rushers in the first game of his career. He survived the early adversity, fell in love with the process of improving and committed himself completely to the game. That commitment included transforming his body from approximately 220 pounds when he started playing to more than 300 pounds as a college offensive lineman. In this Penn State player profile, Alicience discusses the influence of his parents, the coach who recognized his potential, his rapid introduction to football, the challenge of gaining weight, his first experience inside Beaver Stadium and why Penn State's culture felt like the right fit.He also explains how being overlooked continues to motivate him as he works to take advantage of an opportunity he once never imagined was possible.Subscribe for more Penn State Football player profiles, behind-the-scenes stories and exclusive Nittany Lions content.Presented by PAM Health - https://pamhealth.com/Chapters:00:00 Meet Owen Alicience00:22 Starting Football at 1600:48 Brutal First Fall Camp01:03 Facing Two Four-Star Edge Rushers01:44 The Coach Who Changed His Journey02:12 Going From 220 to 310 Pounds02:39 First Penn State Visit03:01 Experiencing the Beaver Stadium White Out03:31 The Penn State Family Is Everywhere03:49 Fishing, Hunting and Golf04:06 Underdog MentalityFOLLOW STATE MEDIA HERE:► TWITTER | https://twitter.com/StateMediaPSU► TIKTOK | https://www.tiktok.com/@statemediapsu► INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/statemediapsu/► YOUTUBE | https://www.youtube.com/@StateMediaPSU?sub_confirmation=1► FACEBOOK | https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558183472272#PennStateFootball #WeAre #CollegeFootball

"Your skill set's not going to be lifting weights—it's going to be the sport, but you still have to learn how to strain." For thirteen seasons, including eleven in the collegiate trenches, Lucas White has survived the brutal, revolving-door reality of Division I strength coaching by adapting elite powerlifting principles to hyper-talented athletes who have never had to grind out a rep in their lives. By rejecting the copy-and-paste templates of traditional football programs and introducing Westside-influenced periodization to a 120-man roster, he transformed the weight room from a mandatory chore into a high-stakes diagnostic lab where athletic longevity is built and weaknesses are ruthlessly exposed. INSIDE THE EPISODE Managing the Chaos: The exact mechanics of running a multi-wave conjugate system inside a high-pressure Power Five football program. Specialty Bars as Diagnostics: Why safety squat bars, cambered bars, and Swiss bars are essential diagnostic tools rather than optional accessories. The Private Sector Carryover: What elite collegiate programs must steal from underground powerlifting gyms to drastically reduce player mileage. The 20% Rule: Cultivating absolute, bone-crushing strength when your athletes are genetically gifted but technically raw in the weight room. Surviving the Trench: A raw look at the grueling reality of zero-dollar internships, moving across the country, and earning trust at the elite level. MEET THE GUEST Lucas White is an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Penn State Football, operating under Director Reid Kagy and Head Coach Matt Campbell. Over a thirteen-season career spanning stops at Iowa State, Boise State, and Mississippi State, White has cemented himself as a premier practitioner of team-scale conjugate periodization. His philosophy was forged not in pristine football facilities, but through years of coaching Olympic sports and training alongside world-record lifters in the private sector—proving that true strength coaching isn't about chasing arbitrary numbers, but building a robust physical base that survives the chaos of late-November football. Landon Tengwall blocked for Drew Allar for a season and now breaks down tape. Allar played freer in his first start against West Virginia. Landon thinks Allar was partly ruined by the coaching staff. James Franklin taught Allar to underthrow deep balls for pass interference penalties. There are times you can tell that Allar is in his head. Landon thinks Allar fell because of inconsistencies. Eli Heidenreich had an awesome moment being drafted to the Steelers and being on the draft stage.
Penn State associate head coach Terry Smith joined the show. Terry shared how Drew Allar continued to travel and stay involved with Penn State after suffering an injury. "Our system wasn't built for him," Terry said that the system wasn't catered for Drew Allar. He thinks the right coaching can help him. Terry wants Aaron Rodgers to come back and mentor Allar. "I think he's going to be a better pro than college player."

Full Hour 1 in The Sports Bar: Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs are set. Sabres vs Bruins Sunday. We are 1 week away from the NFL draft. Sal Capaccio joins the show to go over the latests with the Bills, NFL schedule, the draft & more. Tim shares his take of the day.
Penn State PxP voice Steve Jones joined the show. With the Steelers welcoming the likes of Drew Allar and Vega Ioane over the last 48 hours, Steve had better insight on these guys than anyone. Steve explained what went wrong with Allar last season and if the coaching staff deserves blame. Steve said Allar can make every throw that an NFL team would be looking for, but broke down some of the shortcomings in big moments. Steve said the Penn State fans always wanted more out of Allar because he had the prototypical QB size. What does Allar do well and what needs more work? Steve talked about the growing trend in football offenses and the lack of downfield passing. How does Allar compare to other QBs in this draft class? Steve gave us the skinny on how to pronounce Vega Ioane, since the Steelers may have him high on their board. Steve said Ioane hasn't allowed a sack since 2023 and ‘took care of his yard.' Steve said Ioane is the Quenton Nelson of the draft and regardless of position, he will be of value.

Where you're from doesn't just shape you — it frames how you understand power, loyalty, and loss.Bun B is Houston to the core. Jeffrey Sledge carries New York City wherever he goes. And for Tom Frank, everything starts in State College, Pennsylvania — a town where fall Saturdays felt sacred, Penn State football felt pure, and Happy Valley felt like a place untouched by the rest of the world.Today's guest, Jay Paterno, grew up at the center of that belief system. As a former Penn State assistant coach, trustee, writer, and the son of the late Joe Paterno, Jay lived inside one of the most revered cultures in college sports — and then watched it unravel in public. He speaks openly about legacy, leadership, media narratives, and what it costs to stand inside a storm you can't control. Not from a distance, but from inside his own family. This isn't just a backward-looking conversation. Jay takes the same clear-eyed approach to the modern game — NIL, the transfer portal, revenue sharing, gambling, donor influence — and explains why college athletics is no longer what it pretends to be. His new book - BLITZED! The All-Out Pressure of College Football's New Era - pulls back the curtain on a system stretched to its limits, where pressure, money, and identity collide every Saturday. This episode isn't about defending the past. It's about context, consequence, and where the game is headed."Unglossy" is produced and distributed by Merrick Studio and hosted by Bun B, Tom Frank and Jeffrey Sledge.
