David Asscherick - 15 April 2023
David Asscherick
Guest Pastor David Asscherick shares a powerful sermon on evidences for the existence of a loving, Creator God.
In today's episode Heather sits down with her friends Ty Gibson and David Asscherick to discuss what we may be getting wrong about the character of God. David and Ty walk us through Scripture and show us what has been there all along: God is love. What would happen to our evangelism and conversations if we, as a church body, truly started believing that this statement is true? You won't want to miss this third and final conversation in our “What You May Be Getting Wrong About God” pod-class series. Also, in a first for Viral Jesus, Heather chats with Christian comedienne Ellen Skrmetti about using comedy as a tool for life-changing communication. Ellen, whose Instagram Reels and TikTok accounts are bursting with clever and hilarious videos, has amassed nearly 100,000 followers and millions of views. The Second City alum reflects on the delicate balance between faith and humor, and she explains why “going viral” comes in many shapes and sizes. In part two of this two part episode, the image of God continues to be revealed by asking the question “What does it mean when the Bible says God is Love?” As we continue the conversation, a blueprint for reconstructing every other Christian belief begins to emerge. Hosted by Nicole Dominguez with guests David Asscherick and Ty Gibson.
Who is God? Our answer to this question exposes a lot about our faith, our choices, and how we live our lives. God is the centerpiece to everything. When we get our image of Him right, the rest of our worldview comes into focus. In this episode, guests David Asscherick and Ty Gibson construct the foundation of our future episodes by diving into the Image of God by asking who He is, why we should trust Him, and how to deconstruct our misconceptions. Hosted by Nicole Dominguez.

It still seemed like a normal business day on the island of Okinawa for Tim's grandfather. His family had previously fled to the main land because of the war, but he missed them very much. A friend spontaneously told him, "there is a secret boat that leaves our island tonight. Why don't you take it and go to the main land to visit your wife and children? You haven't seen them for so long." So he left his store and took the secret boat a couple of hours later.Little did Tim's grandfather know that that very night, Japan's WWII opponents would start a devastating bombing attack on Okinawa and entirely level the city and his business. His store was completely destroyed, but his life got saved in miraculous ways. This story is just one of many that Tim Aka shares during this episode. His grandmother's marvelous ways of doing business, his father's journey as an Adventist pioneer in Japan and his brother's life-changing work as a medical missionary are many others. When Norbert reached out to Hyve, he just wanted to get some help for his daughter who was struggling with her vegan restaurant. After seeing how God turned that restaurant around within a few months, he didn't hesitate and hired Hyve to coach Hartland's Wellness Center as well. Up until that point, that wellness center had survived only because of generous donations and money from other sources. People were blessed and healed, but thousands of dollars were lost every single month.Hyve stepped in. A sales person was coached, the prices were increased and various marketing strategies helped the business to become profitable. Not only that, they tripled their yearly revenue and now host twice as many health guests as before! God truly worked in miraculous ways. But Norbert and his team aren't done yet. Their goal is to keep expanding. This fall, they're starting "Madison 2.0", a program that educates current college students on how to start their own missional businesses.Check out the wellness center here.If you would like to support new missional entrepreneurs and get involved with Hartland, please email Norbert at: nrestrepo @ hartland.edu. When we look at the numbers, we can get disappointed very quickly. Each day, close to 400,000 new babies are born. Yet we only baptize 3,000 new members every day. It looks like we're getting further and further away from finishing the work. Our method of evangelism seems to be broken. How do we solve this problem?Jesse Zwiker, founder of Hyve, explains. Our model doesn't work because we're trying to do it in our free time. Besides our regular job, family, hobbies and friends. So when our pastor kindly asks again to do some mission work on Sabbath afternoon, we are too tired to join. But there is a gigantic number of members — 24 million (as of 2022) who are talented, skilled, innovative and motivated to do God's work. Let's get everyone involved! Let's wake up that sleeping giant!Learn more on how to get involved and become a full-time missionary for God's cause! And don't worry... not everyone has to start his own business. A dollar that is owned by a Jew will usually swap 14 different Jewish hands before it leaves this economic circle. The Muslim community enjoy similar privileges. Yet almost every dollar owned by a Christian immediately leaves the Christian community... What if we could build an Adventist ecosystem? Instead of going to Target, we go to our friend from church who owns his own shop. Instead of doing our oil change at Valvoline, we drive to an Adventist car shop. Jesse Zwiker colorfully explains why we need to establish more family businesses — more Adventist businesses.
