Two days of testimony, one recorded voice, and a story that keeps changing depending on who's listening. This recap combines Monday's and Tuesday's sessions — Day 5 and Day 6 — in the Duane "Keffe D" Davis murder trial, and the tapes jurors heard do a lot of the talking. On the 2009 recording, Davis tells detectives about the night Tupac Shakur was shot in Las Vegas: the drive from Club 662, a hidden Glock, his nephew Orlando Anderson as the shooter, and his own claim that the bullets were meant for Suge Knight, not Tupac. Jurors also heard from a BET director who testified Davis was paid to sit for documentary interviews, calling himself the last man alive who could tell the real story, built partly on a sealed police tape that made its way to production through consultants connected to the original case. Tuesday's tape, recorded for Death Row Chronicles in 2017, adds a name to the story: Sean "Puffy" Combs, who Davis says wanted Suge Knight "taken care of." Davis says he called Combs after the shooting. Combs never called back. The defense fought to keep the tape out, calling it prejudicial. The judge disagreed. And when Davis was finally asked, on record, whether he had anything to say to Tupac's family, what came out of his mouth wasn't an apology. Davis remains the only person ever charged in connection with Tupac's 1996 murder. Combs has denied any involvement in the case and has never been charged. Two days, two tapes, one man's own words working against him in real time. Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Day 6 It's Day 6, and the courtroom tension rises as documentary filmmaker and producer Michael Dorsey returns to the witness stand. Dorsey, a consultant on the BET series Death Row Chronicles, describes the 2017 interviews he monitored in which Davis detailed his gang history, drug operations, connections to figures like Christopher Wallace and Sean Combs, and the events surrounding Shakur's shooting. Audio from those sessions is played and authenticated, with Dorsey confirming that key details later appeared in Davis's own book, Compton Street Legend. What follows is a sharp, often heated cross-examination by the defense. Dorsey is pressed on his methods, his lack of formal law-enforcement credentials, how he recorded the interviews, and whether the sessions were truly independent. At times the exchange grows combative enough that the judge steps in. Davis himself remains highly engaged from the defense table, interjecting and reacting openly as his past statements take center stage.Jim breaks down the critical testimony, the audio evidence presented, the courtroom clashes, and what Day 6 means for the prosecution's case built largely on Davis's own words over the years as one of music's longest-running mysteries continues to unfold in real time.Timestamps:02:34 Dorsey's Secret Recording10:55 Cross-Examining the Producer13:24 Hidden Audio Playback15:00 Biggie, Puff, and the Fallout32:03 Mafia, Cops, and Chaos41:24 Aftermath of the Shooting49:28 Hiding from the Heat58:35 FBI Pressure Mounts1:03:21 Betrayal and Biggie Claims1:09:24 Tupac, Orlando, and Regret1:14:11 Gang Hierarchy Explained1:17:17 Biggie's Death and Aftermath1:19:38 Biggie and the Streets1:23:02 Gang Generations1:26:41 Puffy, Zip, and Concerts1:34:22 Money Wasn't the Issue1:41:11 Vegas and the First Encounter1:46:21 Waiting at Club 6621:50:57 The Drive-By Shooting1:56:57 Railroaded by Investigators2:06:54 Covering the Tracks2:14:31 Reggie Sr. Confrontation2:18:13 Suge's Police Protection2:21:09 Gangster Wannabes2:26:11 Tupac's Death2:30:50 Guns and the Backyard Claim2:32:49 Setting the Vegas Scene2:36:15 Rumors and RetaliationFor commercial free early releases, bonus episodes and more! https://www.patreon.com/exposedpodcastfilesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/exposed-scandalous-files-of-the-elite--6073723/support.

In a 2017 recording played for the jury on Day 6 of the Tupac Shakur murder trial, Duane "Keffe D" Davis described the shooting — the gun, his nephew, the Cadillac, Combs. Then the interviewer asked him a question that exposed the crack in his defense. The recording from the Death Row Chronicles production captured Davis discussing his relationship with Sean Combs, claiming Combs wanted Suge Knight dealt with and then stopped returning calls after the shooting. Davis said Combs was trying to "wash his hands" of them. The defense tried to block the recording over references to other crimes. The judge allowed it — the fiction defense weakens each time the jury hears another version of Davis telling the story he now claims was invented for money.Filmmaker Michael Dorsey took the stand as the prosecution's witness, testifying about his phone recording of the interview and his decision to contact Las Vegas police after the documentary aired. His recording was potentially broader than the official production version. Combs has denied involvement and has never been charged.Listen Anywhere You Get Podcasts: https://pod.link/1655749292Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Day 6 of the Keffe D murder trial brought the 2017 Death Row Chronicles recording into the courtroom — and one exchange between the interviewer and Duane Davis landed harder than any confession the jury has heard so far. Davis described the night Tupac Shakur was shot, named his nephew as the gunman, and discussed Sean Combs and money. He said Combs wanted Suge Knight "taken care of" and then ghosted him when the situation got hot. The defense fought to keep the recording out, arguing it contained references to other crimes. The judge admitted it with limiting instructions — every version of Davis telling this story chips away at the fiction defense. Prosecution witness Michael Dorsey, the filmmaker behind Murder Rap, testified about recording the interview on his own phone and later alerting Las Vegas police. His phone recording captured audio the official production recorder missed. Combs has denied any involvement and has never been charged in connection with the case. Listen Anywh

Day 5 of the Duane “Keffe D” Davis Trial: The Last Photo, the Documentary Interviews, and Davis's Own WordsOn Day 5 of the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, charged in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, the prosecution continued building its case with eyewitness testimony, documentary filmmakers, and more of Davis's recorded statements to police. The day opened with Leonard Jefferson, the man who took what is widely regarded as the last known photograph of Tupac Shakur alive. Jefferson testified that he was in Las Vegas for the Mike Tyson fight, sold his tickets in the MGM Grand lobby, and later found himself stopped at a red light next to the BMW carrying Tupac and Suge Knight. He snapped a 35mm photo of the pair before following the convoy onto Flamingo Road. Moments later he heard gunfire, saw the BMW make a U-turn, and watched as Suge Knight emerged yelling that “Pac is shot.” Jefferson later returned to the scene at a detective's request and turned over the film. He pushed back against online conspiracy theories claiming he staged the famous image.Next on the stand was Mario Diaz, showrunner and director of the BET docuseries Death Row Chronicles. Diaz detailed two formal interviews he conducted with Davis in 2017, confirmed Davis was paid for his participation, and walked the jury through how the series incorporated portions of Davis's earlier recorded statements to investigators. He testified that the interviews were unscripted and that no questions were provided in advance.Prosecutors then played extended audio from a voluntary September 2009 police interview in which Davis described the night of the shooting in detail. In the recording, Davis discusses obtaining a gun (described as a .40-caliber Glock) from Eric “Zip” Martin, handing it off inside the white Cadillac, and his nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson ultimately firing the shots. He also referenced Sean “Diddy” Combs and expressed regret, saying he wished the events had never happened and that meeting Combs had “messed up” his life. The day closed with testimony from filmmaker Michael Dorsey, a technical consultant on Death Row Chronicles and producer connected to the Murder Rap project. Dorsey discussed his long investigation into the case, his role advising on the 2017 interviews with Davis, and the audio recordings and transcripts he later provided under subpoena.Timestamps:00:24 Day Five Testimony Begins07:50 Documentary Clips Hit the Jury11:52 Dorsey Explains the Film16:56 Keefe D's 2009 Police Interview23:15 The Payoff Claims34:09 Prosecutor Under the MicroscopeFor commercial free early releases, bonus episodes and more! https://www.patreon.com/exposedpodcastfilesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/exposed-scandalous-files-of-the-elite--6073723/support.

In 2008, Duane "Keffe D" Davis sat down with the LAPD and gave a detailed account of his alleged role in the murder of Tupac Shakur, in exchange for what he believed was protection from prosecution. That proffer became one of the central pieces of evidence in the case against him, alongside interviews on BET's "Death Row Chronicles" and a 2019 memoir where he wrote about handing his nephew Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson the gun used in the shooting. Judge Carli Kierny has ruled his own statements admissible for trial, and his defense team's argument that the 2008 deal should have protected him from prosecution has already been rejected once.  There's no murder weapon in this case. There's no DNA. Anderson denied involvement before he was killed in Compton in 1998, leaving Davis's own words as the backbone of the prosecution's case. After his 2023 arrest, Davis reversed course entirely, telling ABC News he's innocent and that fifteen years of confessions were only ever about selling books. He even claimed he wasn't in Las Vegas that night, contradicting what he'd published himself.  Las Vegas police had his 2008 statements on record for years before making an arrest. The gap between what they knew and when they acted stretched to fourteen years. Every motion the defense has filed since the 2023 arrest, immunity, suppression, dismissal over the delay, has failed. Davis is 63, facing life without parole, and the trial is now underway with a jury that has to decide what his own words are actually worth. Mopreme Shakur says the Shakur family has waited thirty years to watch this play out in front of twelve strangers, and he's not the only one who's noticed how long it took to get here. Links & Legal Footer Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? There's a version of Duane "Keffe D" Davis who spent fifteen years describing, in detail, how he says Tupac Shakur was killed. He told the LAPD in a 2008 proffer session. He said it again on BET's "Death Row Chronicles." He put it in writing in his 2019 memoir, claiming he handed his nephew Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson the gun and ordered the hit over a fight at the MGM Grand. Then Davis got arrested in September 2023, and a different version showed up. He told ABC News he made the whole thing up to sell books. He said he wasn't even in Las Vegas that night, contradicting what he'd published under his own name.  Both versions can't be true, and the jury in Las Vegas is going to have to decide which one to believe with no murder weapon and no DNA to lean on. Anderson, the man Davis says pulled the trigger, denied it before he was killed in Compton in 1998. Judge Carli Kierny has ruled Davis's own statements admissible, which means the case largely comes down to his own words against each other.  Every defense motion so far has failed. The immunity argument built on that 2008 proffer was rejected. The bid to suppress a search of his home was denied. The push to dismiss over the twenty-seven-year delay was denied. Las Vegas police had his statements by 2009 and waited fourteen years to make an arrest. Davis has burned through three legal teams and picked up a battery conviction behind bars along the way.  He's 63 now, facing life without parole, and he's pleaded not guilty. Mopreme Shakur says his family has waited thirty years to see this case reach a courtroom, and this trial is that moment. Links & Legal Footer Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Duane "Keffe D" Davis sat down with the LAPD in 2008 and described his alleged role in the murder of Tupac Shakur, on the record, in a proffer session his own defense team is now trying to use as a shield. He told a similar story on BET's "Death Row Chronicles." He wrote an even more detailed version in his 2019 memoir, claiming he provided the gun and gave the order that got Tupac killed over a fight at the MGM Grand. None of that stopped Las Vegas police from sitting on his statements for over a decade. They had what they needed by 2009. The arrest didn't come until 2023.  Now Davis says all of it was a lie to sell books, that he wasn't even in Las Vegas the night Tupac died, contradicting the account he published under his own name. There's no murder weapon in this case and no DNA. The man Davis says fired the shots, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, denied any involvement before he was killed in Compton in 1998. Judge Carli Kierny has already ruled Davis's own statements admissible, and his immunity claim tied to that 2008 proffer was rejected.  Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis breaks down whether a jury can convict on nothing but a defendant's own words, whether that immunity argument had any real teeth, and what it takes to prosecute a case this cold, three decades after the murder and fourteen years after police first had what they needed. Davis is 63, facing life without parole, and he's pleaded not guilty in a trial his own recorded history may end up deciding. Every major defense motion filed since his 2023 arrest has been rejected, leaving his own words as the centerpiece of the state's case. Links & Legal Footer Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Duane "Keffe D" Davis is heading to trial in Las Vegas on a murder charge connected to the 1996 shooting death of Tupac Shakur. He is the only person ever charged in the case. He has pleaded not guilty. The prosecution's evidence centers on statements Davis made over more than a decade — to police in a 2008 proffer session, on BET's "Death Row Chronicles" documentary, and in his 2019 book "Compton Street Legend." In each account, Davis placed himself in a white Cadillac alongside his nephew Orlando Anderson, whom he identified as the shooter.Davis's defense argues the 2008 statements were made under a promise of immunity connected to the LAPD's investigation into the Biggie Smalls case. Prosecutors contend Davis voided that protection by voluntarily repeating the same confessions in public forums for the next fifteen years. The case is nearly thirty years old. Anderson was killed in 1998. The weapon has never been recovered. Many potential witnesses have died. The jury pool will include people who were children — or not yet born — when the shooting happened.Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis assesses the strengths and weaknesses of a prosecution built almost entirely on the defendant's own words, and what happens when a cold case this famous finally meets a jury.END_LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Tupac Shakur murder trial is about to begin in Las Vegas, and the prosecution's case is unlike any other murder case in modern memory. The defendant allegedly got himself arrested by spending over a decade publicly describing his role in the killing.Duane "Keffe D" Davis provided a proffer to the LAPD in 2008. He appeared on BET's "Death Row Chronicles." He published his account in a book. He gave interviews. In each one, he placed himself in the white Cadillac, described providing the gun, and detailed the motive — retaliation for a physical altercation at the MGM Grand hours before the shooting on September 7, 1996.Las Vegas police had all of this by 2009. They did not charge Davis until September 2023 — fourteen years later. The arrest came after a grand jury indictment triggered in part by the publication of his own memoir.Davis now claims innocence. He says he made up the entire story for financial gain. He has even claimed he was not in Las Vegas the night of the shooting — a statement that contradicts his own book, his own documentary, and his own words to police.Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis examines whether a jury can convict on confessions the defendant now calls fiction, and what a thirty-year gap does to a murder prosecution.END_LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Jake Brown:A Nashville resident for the majority of my book writing career, I've covered every genre within the music industry and has been published in 9 countries around the world. I'd be HONORED if you would consider me for an appearance on your Podcast/Show, where I could cover everything topic-wise from career advice/writing tips to young, aspiring writers or entertaining stories about some of my bigger artist/band collaborations over the past 20 years, or any other area of the book writing or publishing arena. My catalog features highlights across the stylistic spectrum, including Hip Hop titles on Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur, Rick Rubin, Dr. Dre, Biggie Smalls, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Jay Z and more, I co-starred in the 2018 6-part B.E.T. “Death Row Chronicles” docu-series as biographer of record and will soon complete work with legendary R&B star and producer Teddy Riley on his memoirs, including a foreword by Sean ‘Diddy' Combs, and interviews with genre legends like Bobby Brown, Keith Sweat, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E Fresh and more.I was fortunate enough to be able to bring fans into the studio quite literally for the first time with legendary Rock and Metal icons such as Heart and Mӧtorhead, having co-written books with Ann and Nancy Wilson and the late Lemmy Kilmister. Along with books on cult favorites AC/DC and Iron Maiden, I worked with Billy Corgan on an extensive Smashing Pumpkins studio retrospective for Tape Op and co-authored the 2014 best-selling book “Strange Beautiful Music” alongside living guitar legend Joe Satriani. Finally, my Beyond the Beats: Rock & Roll's Greatest Drummers Speak book featured the drummers of Metallica, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Jane's Addiction, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Journey, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foo Fighters, Guns N Roses, Smashing Pumpkins, and more!Back in my hometown of Nashville, I've worked with over 90 of Country Music's biggest hit songwriters in the signature “Nashville Songwriter” book series, co-authored the Freddy Powers memoir “The Spree of '83” – now in film development – featuring Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, Country rapper Big Smo's memoir “My Life in a Jar: The Book of Smo,” and his latest release, the Country Producers-focused volume “Behind the Boards: Nashville.” Featuring 30 of the biggest producers in Nashville discussing their own personal back-stories and the studio stories behind the creation and recording of over 300 # 1 hits by Country's biggest superstars like Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Lady A, Kacey Musgraves, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Jimmy Buffett, Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, Dolly Parton, Sam Hunt, Faith Hill, Thomas Rhett, The Dixie Chicks, Toby Keith, Merle Haggard, Brooks & Dunn, The Band Perry, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and many more!http://jakebrownbooks.comMusic submit Playlist:1.
