On this week's episode of Rooted Recovery Stories, Patrick sits down with good friend and singer songwriter Cody Belew! Blending raw emotion with Southern stomp, Cody Belew offers a unique point of view on faith and love – both of which he approaches with fearless honesty. Coming off PRIDE week, Cody and Patrick discuss the embodiment of community and the importance of always knowing your neighbors. Cody shares his experience growing up gay in the Church and how it has impacted his religious journey. He dives into the inspiration behind his music and the wisdom he's learned in not dimming your light for others. Visit https://www.CodyBelew.com/ to get tickets, find Cody's new releases and more! Cody's first full-length record I Did It For Love will release on September 20th - see more about his inspiration for the album below! His next single is titled "Long, Long Row" and will be out on July 19th! The most recent single, "Horseshoes & Hand Grenades," released in May. Cody made a splash at this year's CMT Awards. Attaching our release, which you'll also note links to all of his social accounts/artist profiles! Assembling a mix of candid originals and well-loved classics by artists who inspired him, Cody Belew released his self-titled debut EP in early 2022 via Visionary Media. That same year had Belew reimagining the Brooks & Dunn classic “Neon Moon '' with Grammy Award-winning producer, Dave Audé, which recently surpassed three million Spotify streams. Belew kicked off 2023 as a member of CMT's coveted “Listen Up” program, which counts Kacey Musgraves, Thomas Rhett, and Marren Morris among its alumni, and saw the release of his single “Charlene,” which chronicled his experienced religious trauma as a Southern Baptist within the LGBTQ+ community. His star is rapidly rising with the recent release of the title track “I Did It For Love'' from his debut album due out later this year. A long-time Nashville resident, Cody recently completed a yearlong, sold-out residency at the city's famed Lipstick Lounge and wowed crowds at the new hotspot The Eighth Room with his impassioned vocals, deft songwriting, and undeniable stage presence. Cody has been highlighted in WWD and Vanity Fair for his distinctive fashion sense and profiled by NBC and Billboard. Cody's Inspiration for I Did It For Love: “Until the day I moved away from home, pointing my truck toward Nashville with all my belongings in tow, getting to Music City had been my singular mission. Ten years in, and I found myself writing about home, and family ties, and what sacrifices it took to get here. I wrote this with arenas in mind. I have christened this sound ‘Southern Glam Rock' as I find myself embodying that intersection- those two truths. We would love to hear from you!

Well, I got to! from "growing up" in the extremely fertile New Orleans music scene to moving to Los Angeles with Bobby Kimball (Toto) and getting fired by Larry Graham which lead to a chance meeting with Robert Palmer, the artist with whom he would forge a musical and personal relationship that would last from 1979's "Bad Case Of Loving You" until Robert's untimely death in 2003. Lauren Minear is a Nashville-raised singer-songwriter set to release her debut album, Invisible Woman, out October 14. She is steeped in the vulnerability of Nashville soul, the real deal; tender and passionate, yet raw and brutally honest songwriting in the lineage of Joni Mitchell, Lucinda Williams, and Gillian Welch. Like these women, Lauren wears her heart on her sleeve as she explores the corners of love through a fragile lens of self-awareness, evoking the likes of Anais Mitchell, Taylor Swift, and Natalie Merchant.Born in Manhattan, Lauren's family moved to Nashville, where she grew up, spending her formative years sharing her parents' love of Brooks & Dunn, KD Lang, Garth Brooks, and Patsy Cline. She also immersed herself in the sounds from the country music radio stations they tuned into on their regular drives from the city to New Orleans to visit her grandparents and the southern soul there, radiating out of The Big Easy.Memorizing songs by Faith Hill, Amy Grant, Mariah Carey, and Shania Twain, and with Nashville songwriting seemingly steeped in her blood, Lauren Minear wrote her first song, "Daddy's Little Girl," at 14 years old, and soon found herself interning on Music Row at Major Bob Music, at Sony ATV Publishing and in the studio with Steve Earle as well as performing and recording an EP with guitarist George Marinelli (Bonnie Raitt). Now a Mother of two little boys and again living in New York with Madi Diaz, Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell, and YEBBA on her stereo, Lauren's journey has been far from just musical; her life has given her a rich and varied tapestry of experiences from which to draw as a songwriter. A transformative journey that has given her confidence and power, Lauren's artistry and songwriting skills were rekindled when she became a mother. This process changed her perception of the world and herself and brought her back to music and the spiritual therapy of creativity.

Tennessee-born country music singer-songwriter, Chris Shupe, grew up listening to and playing country music with friends and family in a small town in Georgia. As a child, he was heavily influenced by country music legends such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks and Brooks & Dunn. In his teen years and early twenties, Chris decided to step into the rock world where he was successful and eventually shared the stage with several world-renowned artists and bands. In 2020, Chris chose to break away from the rock scene and embark on a journey back to his roots to become a solo country music artist. Although starting fresh was an obstacle, he was determined and set out to Nashville with his guitar and new ideas in mind. He played on the streets of Broadway regularly, busking for tips in his guitar case. There he made a name for himself and was recognized by several business owners on Broadway, allowing him to begin to play on stages such as the world famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge, Alan Jackson's Good Time Bar and other well known honky-tonks on the strip. During this time, Chris was also working on his own original music behind the scenes. In late 2021 he wrote and recorded his debut single, “California Sky”, on Music Row with Grammy Award winning studio musicians. It is important to him to preserve the traditional sounds of the country music he grew up influenced by while also adding a hint of his rock-n-roll past to his music.

We're calling this "The Perspective of Young Surveyors - Chapter 2"! We had an absolute blast chatting with these three fine gentlemen. Ryan Werner has been surveying for about 10 years and hails from the great state of Illinois. Davis Johnston has been surveying fulltime since he graduated from the Troy University Land Surveying & Geomatics Sciences program 3 years ago. Luigi Raineri, originally from Brazile, was brave enough to join this group having only been surveying for 3 months! Three intelligent and unique perspectives coupled with DD consuming a little too much Mellow Corn made this another educational yet entertaining Geoholics episode! Music for this episode by Brooks & Dunn!!!
