Title: Walk! Text: Acts 3:1-10 FCF: We often struggle obeying the impossible commands of God. Prop: Because God commands impossible things to reveal our spiritual state, we must trust the Lord to give us what He has commanded. Scripture Intro: [Slide 1] Turn in your bible to Acts chapter 3. We are only 2 chapters into Acts and we have already seen various genres throughout the book. Most recently we saw an editorial summary from Luke. Before that a sermon from Peter. Not to mention the narrative portions through chapter 1 and 2. With all these, we must continue to keep in mind that Acts is simply part 2 of the gospel of Luke. Why is that significant? It helps us to understand how to interpret the text. How do you interpret gospels? Well, the gospels are a collection of stories and teachings of Jesus Christ that all have 1 goal – to reveal the gospel of Jesus Christ. To teach about Jesus' person and work in the redemption of God's people. To articulate how God moves to save His people. We noticed this when we went through Matthew – that every parable, teaching, and narrative had a gospel truth underpinning it. Similarly, Acts is all about the gospel. Particularly the gospel's effect on the world through the church. And so, as we go on in the book of Acts, and particularly as we look at the narrative portions this week and next, we must keep this thought in mind. I am in Acts 3. I'll begin reading in verse 1. I am reading from the LSB again today but you can follow in the pew bible on page 1232 or in whatever version you prefer. Transition: We are entering the stage of parenting now where our daughters are learning independence. They can read, they can write, and they are convinced that they can do just about anything by themselves. How do you convince a little girl that she is unable to do what she is determined to do? How do you convince anyone that they are unable to do what they are sure that they can do? That is an interesting riddle, isn't it? Let me give you another. What was the core of Adam and Eve's sin? Some could say disobedience but if that were the case the scriptures could have just told us that they ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. No. What was the core of their sin? Was it not their reliance on themselves over and above God? Did Eve not use her hearts desires, her eyes, and her passions to believe that she was more than capable of getting what God had forbidden? You don't need to wait, you won't die, just reach out and take it. You can do it. You can do anything you put your mind to! Today we will see a lesson that God is teaching all mankind. A lesson that spans Genesis to Revelation. In a sense, God is teaching us that we can't do anything without Him. That we are nothing without Him… even though we naturally think that we don't need Him at all. All of this can be found in a simple story of a lame man who was told to walk. Let's look at this amazing story starting in verse 1. I.) God always commands what we are unable to obey, so we must trust the Lord to give what He has commanded. (1-6) a. [Slide 2] 1 – Now Peter and John i. Two of Christ's inner circle. ii. We have already seen Peter take a leadership role as he led the church in selecting Judas' replacement and preaching on the Day of Pentecost. iii. John, the disciple Jesus loved, one who remembered and believed what Jesus said the morning of His resurrection. He wrote the three epistles of John. He wrote the gospel of John. And He was the last apostle to die after writing the Revelation of Jesus Christ. iv. John's brother James was the first apostle to be martyred in AD 40 by King Herod Agrippa. That is recorded in chapter 12 and we will get to that in the next… oh… year or so? Maybe?

What, exactly is an "effective" population size and how is that different from a "census" population size? LHIM Weekly Bible Teachings

By [wbt_preacher_link preacher=”Sean Finnegan”] Genesis 2:8-9   God's original habitat for humanity was a luscious garden full of delightful food. There were two special trees: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:15-17   God made clear to the man that eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would result in death. Genesis 3:1-24   The serpent's cunning temptations turned God's words against Him, making Him seem like He was holding Eve back from being like a god who knew good and evil. In the end, the question was one of trust. Did Eve and Adam trust God or the snake? Our first parents chose rebellion and independence over obedience and submission. This one action resulted in devastating consequences. God cursed the serpent, the woman, the ground, and the man. The whole world (and humanity in particular) is now fallen. Romans 5:12-21   This brief section provides masterful insight into how original sin affected subsequent humanity. Death is the consequence of sin that we all suffer due to our original parent's rebellion. Beyond this, the one man's disobedience resulted in many being made sinners. Ephesians 2:1-3   So fallen is humanity that Scripture calls us dead. We are by nature the children of wrath who follow the world's course and the prince of the power of the air. We are all in desperate need of saving. Romans 8:19-22   Beyond humanity, our whole world was subjected to futility and is in bondage to corruption. When at last God resurrects His children, He will likewise heal the world, bringing about a reversal to death and corruption once and for all.The post Original Sin first appeared on Living Hope.
