by Bp John Roundhill | Matthew 28: 16-20 & 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13Matthew 28: 16-20 & 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13 (NIV)God is not like us.  Yes, we're made in his image, but God is unique.  As Karl Barth said, "One cannot speak of God simply by speaking of man in a loud voice."  The Christian understanding of God is an eternal relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  That's not easy to wrap our heads around, but why would we expect an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and eternal God to be easy to understand!

Genesis 16:8 reveals how God uses powerful questions to expose the hidden fears, wounds, and thought patterns shaping our lives. In this devotional, Jennifer Slattery reflects on God’s interaction with Hagar and shows how the Lord still asks believers today: “Where have you come from, and where are you going?” These questions are not rooted in condemnation, but in God’s loving desire to guide His children toward healing, wisdom, and peace. Highlights God’s questions often uncover hidden fears, wounds, and insecurities. Genesis 16 shows God intentionally pursuing Hagar in her place of overwhelm. Emotional reactions are often connected to unresolved pain from the past. God invites believers to examine where they’ve come from and where they’re headed. Obedience to God requires trusting His heart, even when the path feels difficult. God’s guidance is rooted in love, provision, and long-term healing. Reflecting honestly with God can lead to greater peace, wisdom, and emotional health. Have an idea for our newsletter? We want to hear from you! Take our survey below: Take Our Survey! Full Transcript Below: When God Asks Powerful Probing Questions By: Jennifer Slattery Bible Reading: And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. (Genesis 16:8, NIV) God’s questions have a way of piercing to the deepest places in our souls—where lies and insecurities often reside undetected. When anxious and overwhelmed, I have a difficult time demonstrating the love and grace of Christ. Add enough challenges and frustrations to my day, and I can become irritable with the people I most love. But I can rarely, if ever, will myself to respond better. Relying on self-control might help momentarily, but eventually, the undealt with gunk in my soul bubbles out and onto those I hold dear. That was how I behaved the night my husband and I checked into our VRBO to escape Nebraska’s bitterly cold winter. We make this journey each January, beginning with a long road trip during which we see as many grandkids as possible. This is always a lovely… and exhausting endeavor that involves hours in our vehicle, standstill traffic, and clamoring in and out of numerous hotels (Our mini-golden doodle was not a fan and alerted us to this by barking all night at other guests roaming the halls. We have since learned that under no circumstances will we allow the hotel clerk to give us a room near the elevators!). By the time we reached our destination, where we planned to remain all month, I felt frazzled, anxious, and struggling to untangle my brain’s swirling mess of have-tos and a series of new problems that felt insurmountable. In short, I didn’t handle the situation well. More accurately, I behaved more like a temper tantrummy toddler without a nap, than the Spirit-empowered reflection of Christ to which I’m called. Initially, this evoked latent shame. Had this occurred a few years ago, I might’ve stayed in that place of self-condemnation. That only would’ve added to my stress. But God is teaching me to go deeper—in myself, and with Him. To move past surface-level attempts at holiness to consider the roots of my reactions, He used today’s verse to do so. The morning after my ungracious response to my very gracious husband, I sensed God’s whisper, “Where have you come from? Where are you going?” He wasn’t asking about my present location. He wanted me to prayerfully consider how past experiences were impacting my present. What wounds distorted my perception and challenged my trust? What lies lurked in my subconscious and wreaked havoc on my present? And, where was I going? First, where did I want to go? Did I want to stay stuck in dysregulated responses, or did I want to become healthier and holier? Did I want to follow God’s lead moment by moment and day by day, in my times of overwhelm, included? These questions evoked others, such as, do I trust the direction in which God is leading me enough to follow? Finally, I sensed Him inviting me to consider where He’s taking me, and this is something He’s been reiterating to me for some time. Often, when obedience feels difficult, He reminds me of His heart and plans for me and those I love. This helps steady me by assuring me that He remains faithfully in control, regardless of how out of control I might feel in that moment. The Lord spoke a similar message to an Egyptian slave named Hagar. If you’re familiar with Old Testament history, you might know her story. Scholars suggest she might’ve been part of the “gifts” given to Abram by the Pharaoh in Genesis 12. This alone must have felt traumatic—to be treated as property, torn from her homeland, and forced to live in servitude with a clan she knew little about. Then, around a decade later, she experienced an abuse that must’ve cut deep into her soul. Sarai gave her to Abram, Sarai’s husband, to impregnate. You can imagine how traumatic this must’ve been, and the bitterness and fear that might’ve invaded her soul. Once she conceived, the tension between her and Sarai became so intense that Hagar fled. Perhaps she intended to return to Egypt. Maybe she simply reacted out of fear and overwhelm, triggering a flight response. Regardless, she soon found herself pregnant, vulnerable, and defenseless in the wilderness. There, beneath the intense Middle Eastern sun, she might’ve died, if not for “the Angel of the Lord”, who many scholars believe was pre-incarnate Jesus. According to Genesis 16:7, He found her—I love that phrasing, as it implies that He intentionally went looking for her. He found her near a spring in the desert beside the road to Shur. And He asked her the same two questions He asked me: Where have you come from and where are you going.” I read this as an invitation for a holy pause. An opportunity for her to re-engage rational thinking and consider where her panicked reaction led her. And where are you going, as in, “Is this the direction you really want to head? Further into the wilderness, to raise your baby alone?” I must acknowledge that this account feels uncomfortable. I don’t like to think that the Lord told her to return to the place in which she’d been abused. But I also see how this was an act of care, love, and provision. By His grace, He brought Hagar back under His covenantal blessing and allowed her to raise her son with direct access to his father, who came to love him deeply. Then, when that child became older, He released him and his mother, again, with His blessing. Intersecting Life & Faith: Unprocessed wounds, fear, and catastrophic thinking can lead to self-sabotaging decisions. When experiencing pain and injustice, often, all we want is relief. But what happens when our desire for relief leads us to greater danger? Thankfully, God meets in our place of overwhelm and invites us to consider where we’ve come from and where we’re going. The more we learn to do so, the greater our peace and the less our shame and regret. And eventually, standing on the other side of obedience, we recognize that God truly knows best. His love was leading the entire time. If you've woken up already feeling the weight of the day, or your thoughts are carrying more than they should, this moment is for you. This is a prayer to help you find stability and strength in God. Father, as this day begins, we come to You honestly. Not pretending we have everything together. Not pushing away what we feel. But bringing it all into Your presence. You are our refuge. That means we can come to You exactly as we are. And You are our strength. That means we do not have to carry today in our own ability. So we pause here. We take a breath. We allow ourselves to stop for a moment before the day begins to move. And we remember— You are present. Not distant. Not far away. But here, right now. An ever-present help. So I bring the weight I am feeling to You. I bring the thoughts that feel too heavy. I bring the pressure that has already begun to rise. I place it in Your hands. And I do not need to hold it all anymore. I release the tension in my body.  I release the strain in my mind. I release the fear that I will not be able to handle what comes today. I release it. And now, I receive.I receive strength for this moment. I receive calm in the middle of the pressure. I receive stability where I felt unsettled. Today, I will not try to do everything at once. I will take one step at a time. And with each step, I trust that You are with me. God is with you now. You are not facing this day alone. A Story of Rebellion, Judgement, and Grace Pastor Jon Verwey Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed. —Mark 12:1-5 NIV …The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. — Exodus 34:6-7a NIV God patiently calls people to repentance and forms them into a people who love, follow, and live for His Son. He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my son.' “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. —Mark 12:6-8 NIV What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. — Mark 12:9 NIV The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. — Nahum 1:3a NIV Haven't you read this passage of Scripture: “ ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?” — Mark 12:10-11 NIV The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. — Psalm 118:22–23 NIV But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength in behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve you just as my mother did. — Psalm 86:15–16 NIV

God's Design for Relationships and the Way to the Kingdom Pastor Jon Verwey “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law…” “Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied. 4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” 5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.' 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. —Mark 10:1–16 (NIV) “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” v. 2b What did Moses command you?… v. 3 It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law… v. 5 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.' ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” — Mark 10:6–9 NIV God's design cannot be rewritten by what we think is right or what we want to happen. When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” — Mark 10:10–12 NIV When Jesus saw this, he was indignant… Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. — Mark 10:14–15 NIV God's design cannot be rewritten by what we think is right or what we want — it must be received in humble faith. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts… See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. — Hebrews 3:7–8, 12 NIV Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.— Proverbs 3:5–7 NLT

Thoughts grow louder, worries stretch wider, and silence itself can feel heavy. But here, in this hour, Jesus, Jesús, Jesus Cristo meets you with a presence stronger than anything the darkness suggests. He does not wait for the night to pass — He enters it with you, placing Himself between your heart and every shadow that tries to rise. Psalm 91 speaks with authority: Você não temerá o terror da noite. You are not left to face the night alone, nor to battle the voices that try to wear down your peace. Jesús stands guard over your thoughts, stilling the noise, softening the impact of fear, reminding you that the night does not hold dominion over a life carried by the Shepherd. And Jesus Cristo brings a presença profunda — a deep presence that does not depend on your strength. He calms what trembles, holds what feels fragile, and steadies what has struggled to settle throughout the day. His nearness is not symbolic; it is the very atmosphere shaping your inner world as this hour unfolds. “Bondade e misericórdia me seguirão.” Goodness and mercy follow you into this night, into this moment, into this breath. Not anxiety. Not fear. Not uncertainty. Goodness and mercy. Jesús, dame paz esta noche — Jesus, give me peace tonight — becomes the simple and honest prayer of a heart choosing trust over fear. So release the weight you carried. Let His refuge surround you. Let His strength become the shield over your mind. May Jesus quiet your fears. May His deep presence hold you. And may His peace — lasting, gentle, unwavering — guard your night from every direction. Jesus, Jesús, Jesus — the One who speaks peace to storms, the One who stands guard when silence grows heavy, the One who draws near when the shadows feel close. Tonight, many hearts come carrying unspoken fears. Some fear the darkness itself; some fear the thoughts that rise when the world grows quiet; some fear the future; some fear loneliness; some fear the memories that still echo; some fear the things they cannot name. But You, Jesus — Tu me acalmas; Tú me sostienes — step into this hour with presence stronger than fear. Your Word says we will not fear the terror of night. So we bring every fear into Your hands. Calm the racing mind. Quiet the inner noise. Place Your peace over the home, over the heart, over the breath of every listener. Stand between us and every darkness that tries to whisper its lies. Let Your voice be the only one we follow tonight. “Goodness and mercy will follow me.” “Bondade e misericórdia me seguirão.” Let that truth wrap around every room, every person, every family. Let goodness follow the one who feels forgotten. Let mercy follow the one who feels overwhelmed. Let Your refuge — refúgio, refugio — become the place where we finally exhale. Jesus, steady the anxious heart. Bring warmth where the night feels cold. Bring comfort where someone lies awake. Bring strength where someone feels fragile. Let Your peace settle softly, like a blanket over every soul listening now. Remind us that no shadow is stronger than You, no fear is louder than Your love, and no night is deeper than Your presence. You know the storm inside me, the thoughts that swirl, the emotions that shift, the uncertainties that refuse to fade when the evening grows quiet. Hear me tonight. Draw close to me. Let Your presence settle over my heart the way night settles over the earth — gentle, steady, unhurried. Where there is tempestade interior, bring stillness. Calm the places that feel unsettled. Psalm 46:1 whispers reassurance that You remain a refuge, a safe place to breathe, to rest, and to find renewed courage. Senhor Jesus, sê a minha força esta noite. You see where strength feels thin, where thoughts feel heavy, and where the day's pressures still sit quietly within the heart. Your presence becomes a gentle shelter when energy is fading. 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds me that even in moments of weakness, Your grace does not diminish. It meets me exactly where I am. Jesus, let Your strength rise where mine has faded. Let Your peace settle into the places that feel unsettled. Senhor, dá-me descanso e firmeza. Around the world, countless people search for reassurance that they are not alone in their tiredness. Your word reaches into that longing, offering a calm that lifts the spirit without force or pressure. Jesus, steady my breathing tonight. Lift the quiet burdens. Let the unsettled thoughts soften. Replace inner pressure with Your gentle strength. Help me walk into tomorrow with renewed hope, believing that You are present in every moment—guiding, strengthening, and holding me with tenderness. You are my refuge, my strength, and the steady place beneath every emotion that rises at midnight. When my heart feels unsettled or weary, You draw close, bringing a peace that the world cannot copy and a comfort deeper than anything I could manufacture on my own. You remind me that I am not abandoned in the dark; Your presence fills the silence with reassurance and rest. Lord, speak calm into the places where I feel stretched, worried, or unsure. Ease the weight of today's pressures and lift the quiet fears that whisper when the world around me grows still. Let Your joy settle inside me, gently turning my attention from uncertainty toward Your faithful love. When the night feels long, breathe peace over my mind and steady my emotions with Your nearness. Dion van Breda teaches from Ephesians 3 this week, and he shares how under the banner of Jesus Christ, Jewish and Gentile believers become one people. As a result, we have the privilege of sharing the Good News of the goodness, love, and mercy of God to all people everywhere.Ephesians 3: 1 - 6 (NIV)God's Marvelous Plan for the GentilesFor this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—2 Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3 that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. 4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

Send us your feedback — we're listeningHebrews 13:5–6 — “Jesus, Stay With Me Tonight and Strengthen My Heart When I Fear Tomorrow” Sydney • Toronto • Nairobi • New York • Jerusalem — Jesus help me tonight, fear of tomorrow, night anxiety relief, peace in uncertainty, emotional calm, mental strength in Christ Hebrews 13:5–6 (NIV): “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you… The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” Psalm 46:1–2 (NIV): “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” At 11 p.m., the emotional temperature of the world changes. This is the hour where many confront the fear of tomorrow, the weight of uncertainty, the pressure of unfinished responsibilities, and the quiet ache of “What if?” Thoughts grow louder, shadows seem longer, and internal battles intensify. Tonight's prayer stands directly in that moment — lifting every trembling heart to Jesus, anchoring the mind in His promise, and strengthening the spirit with His unbreakable presence. Hebrews 13:5–6 speaks into the very core of night fear. Jesus assures His people that He never withdraws, never abandons, never steps back from their weakness or worry. His nearness is not seasonal; it is permanent. Psalm 46:1–2 then reinforces the truth that God remains a refuge when the world feels unstable, a strength when emotions feel thin, a shield when thoughts become overwhelming. Tonight we pray over fear of tomorrow, dread of the future, anxiety about decisions, financial strain, family concerns, emotional turbulence, spiritual heaviness, and every imagined outcome that steals peace. We ask Jesus to calm the inner storm, steady the racing mind, lift the oppressive weight on the chest, and bring divine clarity into the confusion. We pray that His presence stands guard at the doorway of the night, pushing back every fear, silencing every tormenting thought, and covering every vulnerable place with His authority. We speak peace into bedrooms, quiet into restless spaces, courage into trembling hearts, hope into discouraged minds, and strength into every room where someone feels alone. Jesus stands with His people tonight — not distant, not passive, but actively guarding, comforting, and guiding. Jesus, stay with me tonight and give me courage for tomorrow. night fear prayer, Jesus strengthen me, fear of tomorrow prayer, emotional peace prayer, protection in the nightSupport the showFor more inspiring content, visit RBChristianRadio.net — your home for daily devotionals, global prayer, and biblical encouragement for every season of life. Celebrating someone else’s failure can reveal a deeper struggle with envy, comparison, and misplaced gratitude. Rooted in 1 Samuel 18:9, this devotional confronts the subtle sin of rejoicing in others’ misfortune and invites us to trade jealousy for gratitude, humility, and trust in God’s provision. Highlights Envy can quietly turn another person’s hardship into our momentary emotional relief. Comparison tempts us to feel better about ourselves when others fall. Scripture shows envy is not a minor issue—Saul’s jealousy toward David led to spiritual and emotional destruction. Envy says to God, “What You gave me isn’t enough.” Coveting blinds us to the blessings God has already placed in our own lives. Gratitude breaks the cycle of jealousy and restores spiritual clarity. Healing begins when we honestly acknowledge envy and invite God to reshape our hearts. Do you want to listen ad-free? By Kelly Balarie Bible Reading: “And Saul was furious and resented this song. “They have ascribed tens of thousands to David,” he said, “but only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?” And from that day forward Saul kept a jealous eye on David.” – 1 Samuel 18:9 NIV I am happy this happened to her. For a split second, my friend's misfortune was my utter joy. As if I was watching her situation unfold on a big screen, I couldn't help but lean in, rub my hands together, and rejoice in her big cash outlay. Oh yes, I am not the only one who must pay an unexpected bill...! Shortly thereafter, I felt bad. I love this woman. “What is wrong with me?" I thought. Of course, I'd never admit this sinful thought to another soul. These sorts of things you keep to yourself. I knew better. I knew better to admit my deep satisfaction found in my friend's horrible misfortune. I knew better than to tell anyone how her bad made me feel good for a moment. I don't think I am alone either. None of us would admit it, because we know better, but I’d venture to say that this is why tabloids are so loved! When the high and mighty fall, for a moment we feel lifted. We think, "At least my life is not as bad as hers." Looking at the tabloids in the grocery aisle, we think, at least I’m not as bad as this celebrity who is now busted as a drug addict or a 5-time cheater. At least I’m not her. Tabloids are the outlet to the joyful slander of envy, just as much as my friend's misfortune was the release for mine. I wanted what she had, but I didn’t have it, so I coveted her life, her goods, and her income. Envy makes slander easy. Envy easily cuts someone else down to be emotionally built up. I’m not proud of it, but today, in humility, I admit it. While no one ever admits this truth, I know I am not alone. It’s as old as Bible times. Think: Cain and Abel, Joseph and His brothers, Saul and David. Saul envied David, saying, “And Saul was furious and resented this song. “They have ascribed tens of thousands to David,” he said, “but only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?” And from that day forward, Saul kept a jealous eye on David. (1 Sam. 18:9 NIV) How did God handle envy, in Saul’s case? “The next day a spirit of distress sent from God came upon Saul…” (1 Sam. 18:10 NIV) God did not take envy lightly, and He doesn’t today either. When we envy another person, we say to God, “What you gave me is not enough; I hate my portion you gave me; I want their bounty.” Rather than walking with an attitude of gratitude, we count another’s blessings and miss our own. We see another’s lot and miss our own flowers. We look at another’s increase and think it spells out our demise. We lose our minds with envy, coveting, and jealousy. I suppose this is why a great command in the bible is, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor’s house or land, his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” (Deut. 5:21) Is there grace? Absolutely. Is there a fresh start for those like me, who aren’t even thinking while critiquing and judging others from a root of bitterness called envy? You bet. But is there a sobriety and a reality check involved with this sin? Yes. We cannot give God glory for things that we don’t acknowledge. We can’t see God’s best way when we are looking at someone else’s way and sizing it up. We can’t effectively say thank you when we feel hate-filled. Intersecting Faith & Life: Have you ever tried to drive at high speeds ahead by looking back for long periods of time? Likely no. When we look back for prolonged periods, we are going backwards. The same goes when we compare what we have to what others have. What can you give thanks for in your life today? What has God done for you? How does true gratitude make you feel? Two Overarching 3 Kings Take-Aways God partners with ordinary people (messy) to accomplish His extraordinary purposes. Ordinary people are capable of mighty acts when we align our mind, heart and hands with God's. Solomon is Different KingPhysicallyBackground SkillsetWisdomThe Hebrew word for wisdom (hokma) means information + insight. The OT concept of wisdom carries a moral, ethical and an applied skill component. The NT word for wisdom (sophia) points to a practical and spiritual understanding of God's will and applying that knowledge to life. “Knowing the greatest goal in any situation and the best way to achieve it.” Pastor John PiperRemarkable Moment. Ordinary Day.1 Kings 3:16-28 (NIV) 16 Now two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. 17 One of them said, “Pardon me, my lord. This woman and I live in the same house, and I had a baby while she was there with me. 18 The third day after my child was born, this woman also had a baby. We were alone; there was no one in the house but the two of us. 19 “During the night this woman's son died because she lay on him. 20 So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep. She put him by her breast and put her dead son by my breast. 21 The next morning, I got up to nurse my son—and he was dead! But when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn't the son I had borne.” 22 The other woman said, “No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours.” But the first one insisted, “No! The dead one is yours; the living one is mine.” And so they argued before the king. 23 The king said, “This one says, ‘My son is alive and your son is dead,' while that one says, ‘No! Your son is dead and mine is alive.'” 24 Then the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So, they brought a sword for the king. 25 He then gave an order: “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.” 26 The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't kill him!” But the other said, “Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!” 27 Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother.” 28 When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.1 Kings 4:29 (NIV) “God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.”Question: What was the genesis of Solomon's wisdom? Answer: Godly advice + a Godly ask.Godly Advice is two-fold. 1 Kings 2:1-4 (NIV) When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go 4 and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.' 1. Be strong, act like a man (NIV)…“show what you are made of” (Message) David is challenging/imploring Solomon to step up to what he was being called into. 2. Observe what the Lord requires. Align your words, will and ways to that of the Lord. It's not possible to lead at this level if you are out of alignment. Out of alignment places an untenable burden – emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical on our shoulders. Alignment is a synergistic position that employs God's power to accomplish His/our joint purposes.Godly Ask. 2 Kings 3:3-15 (NIV) 3 Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places. 4 The king went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices, for that was the most important high place, and Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” 6 Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. 7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.” 15 Then Solomon awoke—and he realized it had been a dream. “I am only a child” Solomon's ask can from a place of self-awareness. All good leadership comes from a place of self-awareness. “The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this” Why? Because Solomon's was aligning with the Lord's purpose. He was falling in behind the leadership of YHWY – not asking YWHY to fall in behind his leadership! Is God's wisdom accessible to me? Godly Wisdom is neither secretive or elusive but you can only have it if you go for it! And when you “get it and follow it” there is a reward! 3 essentials to obtaining wisdom. Fear God. Trust God. Ask God. Each step comes with its own sets of rewards.Essential #1 Fear God. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Reverence and Awe are the beginning of wisdom because if we don't hold God in the highest of regard, elevating Him and His counsel above ourselves and others, we won't align our actions with His… simple as that. Proverbs 14:12 (AMP) There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but its end is the way of death. REWARD #1. Proverbs 9:11-12 (NIV) 11 For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. 12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.Essential #2 Trust God. Proverbs 3:1-8 (Charlie Amplified Version) INSTRUCTION 1My son, do not forget my teaching [these aren't secrets], but keep my commands in your heart [keep a tight grip], REWARD 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. INSTRUCTION 3 Let love and faithfulness [hesed] never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart [keep God's hesed front in center of all emotions and decisions]. REWARD 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. INSTRUCTION 5 Trust [rely on, have confidence in] in the Lord with all your heart [emotions] and lean not on your own understanding [what seems]; 6 in all your ways [decisions and movement] submit to him [yield], REWARD and he will make your paths straight. INSTRUCTION 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes [seems]; fear the Lord [be in awe] and shun [turn away/ reject] evil.REWARD 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Essential #3. Ask God. James 1:2-8 (AMP) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame… Reward… and it will be given to him. 3 essentails to obtaining wisdom. Fear God. Elevate God over yourself. Trust God. Elevate His path over other's opinion. Ask God. Elevate God to your first and last ask. “Thou, O Christ, who went tempted in all points like we are, yet without sin, make us strong to overcome the desire to be wise and to be reputed wise by others as ignorant as ourselves. We turn from our wisdom as well from our folly and flee to Thee, the wisdom and the power of God. Amen” (AW Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy pg. 59.) “With the goodness of God to desire our highest welfare, the wisdom of God to plan it, and the power of God to achieve it, what do we lack? Surely we are the most favored of all creatures.” (AW Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy pg. 64.)

The Power of Fellowship | February 2, 2025Pastor Wes MorrisI John 1:1-4 (NLT) We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.Koinonia: A bond that unites believers with each other and with Jesus.I Corinthians 1:9 (NIV) God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.Acts 2:42 (NIV) They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.√  IT STARTS WITH PRIDE.√  WE SLOWLY DRIFT.√  WE ARE VULNERABLE TO THE ENEMY'S ATTACK.“Sin demands to have a man by himself. The more isolated a person is, the more destructive will be the power of sin over him.”  - Dietrich Bonhoeffer Ecclesiastes 4:8-10 (TLB) I also observed another piece of foolishness around the earth. This is the case of a man who is quite alone, without a son or brother, yet he works hard to keep gaining more riches. And to whom will he leave it all, and why is he giving up so much now? It is all so pointless and depressing. Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better. If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he's in trouble.THE POWER OF FELLOWSHIPRomans 12:5 (NLT) Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.I. TOGETHER WE ARE ENCOURAGED.Hebrews 3:13 (NIV) But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.I Thessalonians 5:11 (MSG) Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it.II. TOGETHER WE ARE CHALLENGED.Proverbs 27:6 (NLT) Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.James 5:16 (NIV) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.III. TOGETHER WE WIN.Exodus 17:10-13 (TLB) So Joshua and his men went out to fight the army of Amalek. Meanwhile Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. And as long as Moses held up the rod in his hands, Israel was winning; but whenever he rested his arms at his sides, the soldiers of Amalek were winning. Moses' arms finally became too tired to hold up the rod any longer; so Aaron and Hur rolled a stone for him to sit on, and they stood on each side, holding up his hands until sunset. As a result, Joshua and his troops crushed the army of Amalek, putting them to the sword.

Pastor Andrew Burchfield's sermon, "Keep the Faith In The Marketplace," encourages listeners to integrate their faith with their work and daily lives, viewing the marketplace as an essential place for ministry and leadership. The sermon reframes conventional ideas about leadership, wealth, and the role of faith in professional settings, inviting believers to see their work as a calling and an opportunity to positively influence the world around them. Redefining Leadership and Marketplace: Pastor Andrew reinterprets conventional definitions, broadening their scope to include everyday interactions and environments [1]. Leadership: Leadership is defined not by title or position but by the ability to positively influence the atmosphere and attitudes of others daily [2]. This definition encompasses various roles, including parents, employers, and employees [2]. Marketplace: The marketplace is any arena where conversations and influence occur, extending beyond traditional business settings to include schools, volunteer work, and even casual encounters at grocery stores [3, 4]. According to Pastor Andrew, the marketplace is a space for meaning, influence, and moments that honor Jesus [5]. Biblical Basis for Prosperity: The sermon addresses common misconceptions about wealth and Christianity, arguing that God empowers individuals to create wealth and achieve success [6]. Deuteronomy 8:18: This scripture is foundational, asserting that God gives people the power to generate wealth [6]. The sermon references multiple translations to highlight different aspects of this power [6, 7]: NIV: God gives the ability to produce wealth [6]. New Living Translation: God gives the power to be successful [7]. Amplified Bible: God gives the power to make wealth, remembered with profound respect [7]. Pastor Andrew clarifies that the ability to create wealth does not negate the need for hard work or the potential for hardship [6]. Old Testament Examples: The sermon cites numerous figures to illustrate that faith and prosperity are not mutually exclusive [8, 9]: Abraham: A wealthy livestock owner [8]. Isaac: Successful in agriculture [8]. Jacob: Managed large flocks and strategically bred animals [8]. Joseph: Managed a national food supply chain in Egypt [9]. Boaz: A wealthy landowner and grain merchant [9]. Solomon: Involved in international trade and shipping [9]. Lydia: A seller of purple cloth [9]. New Testament Examples: Peter, Andrew, James, and John: Fishermen before becoming disciples [9]. Matthew: A tax collector before becoming a disciple [9]. Practical Ways to Keep Faith in the Marketplace: Pastor Andrew offers practical guidance on integrating faith into daily interactions and professional conduct. He shares four ways to keep the faith in the marketplace, noting that six more are available on bwc.online [10]. Conversations: Words have the power to shape the world [10]. Referenced Scripture: Colossians 4:6 advises that speech should be gracious and thoughtful [11]. Character: Personal integrity influences one's impact [12]. Referenced Scripture: Proverbs 10:9 states that integrity ensures security [12]. Creativity: Innovation is a divine gift for solving problems and shaping the future [13]. Story of Bezalel from Exodus 31:2-5, who was gifted in creating the Tabernacle and Ark of the Covenant [14]. Consistency: Consistent actions create significant influence [15]. Referenced Book: The Atomic Habit by James Clear highlights the power of small, incremental improvements [15]. Referenced Scripture: Luke 16:10 emphasizes faithfulness in small matters [15]. Analogy of a Guitar: To underscore the importance of consistency, Pastor Andrew uses the analogy of a guitar. He explains that just as each string on a guitar must be properly tuned to create harmonious music, different areas of our lives (emotions, appearance, desires, physical health, and eternal perspective) must be consistent to live in harmony with God's will [16, 17]. Each string represents a different note: E, A, D, G, B, and E [16]. When one aspect is out of tune, it affects the overall quality and effectiveness of our lives and witness in the marketplace [16, 17].

In today's episode of Captivated, Stasi shares from a Women at the Well teaching about cultivating a deep relationship with God through consistent prayer and worship, so that in moments of need, our faith is strengthened by this connection with him. By aligning our thoughts with Christ and surrendering to his process, he transforms us from the inside out into Christ's likeness. Stasi encourages us to lay our lives before God daily, arranging our days so we experience deep contentment, joy, and confidence in his faithful love.…..SHOW NOTES:…..VERSES: 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT) — So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.Genesis 1:28 (NIV) — God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) —  For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.Matthew 17:1-7 (NLT) — (here, verses 1–3) After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.Romans 12:1-2 (NIV) — Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.Romans 12:1-2 (The Message) — …Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.Ephesians 4:23 (NIV) — Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.Ephesians 4:24 (NIV) — Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.Ephesians 5:1 (NIV) — Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.Ephesians 5:15 (NIV) — So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise.Ezekiel 37: Valley of the Dry Bones story…..RESOURCES:Women at the Well: https://wahe.art/3ywqKT3Women at the Well (this teaching): https://wahe.art/3WDSgpEEpic: The Larger Story | https://wahe.art/3yjOAl5Song: Come Lord Jesus (Live) by Jeremy RiddleWorship Playlist | Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3XFQ5nJ…..Don't Miss Out on the Next Episode – Subscribe for FreeSubscribe using your favorite podcast app:Spotify Podcasts – https://spoti.fi/42SsOipApple Podcasts – https://apple.co/42E0oZ1 Google Podcasts – http://wahe.art/3M81kxLAmazon Music & Audible – https://amzn.to/3M9u6hJ

How do we stand against these attacks? How do we stop being pulled into defeat, discouragement, and doubt? How do we continue to walk in the freedom Christ afforded us? Galatians 5:1 tells us that we must, “stand firm”.  This means that we keep standing no matter how hard Satan's pulling. SUBSCRIBE to our sister podcasts:Your Daily Prayer: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-prayer/Your Daily Bible Verse: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-bible-verse/ Full Transcript Below: Shutting Down Enemy Attacks Against You By Kelly Balarie “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Gal. 5:1 NIV Have you ever played a game of tug of war? In this game there are two groups of people pulling on each side of the rope.  One side pulls and the rope, along with the people, go left. The other side pulls and the rope, along with the rope-holders, go right. Whatever team has the stronger amounts of tugs, the one who gains the most ground, eventually wins. If they can pull the other team to their side, they are victorious. The enemy tries the same strategy with us.  He tries to pull us to his side and off the ground of God's truth. The devil says to us, “You are a horrible person, why try?” He tugs at our heart left. He adds, “You can't really believe that God will answer your prayer.” He tugs a little more and gains traction. He hits us again, saying, “Why go to church anymore? People only hurt you there.” The devil's goal is to pull us off the ground of God's truth so that we can be yoked to his lies. It is subtle.   “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Gal. 5:1 NIV God's side offers us freedom, even for today. Satan's side offers us slavery and burdens in life. Practically, we can do these three things to continue to stand: Wait on the Lord. New life for Jesus looked a lot different on day 3 than it did on day 2. Sometimes, just giving it a day offers a fresh perspective, coupled with resurrection life power. Use Scripture as a weapon. Remember Jesus in the wilderness? He did not just listen to the enemy's temptations, He defeated them with scriptural declarations. Memorize God's Word and then speak it aloud over feelings of defeat or disillusionment. Pray. You are not powerless; you are powerful in prayer. Pray that the devil will get behind you and that God will strengthen you to stand. Intersecting Faith & Life: How do you feel attacked by the enemy? What is coming against you that you know is not from the Lord? What would it look like for you to stand? You know, if we stand through a storm, eventually the storm moves on. No storm lasts forever. Nature shows us this.  Likewise, what remains beyond the dark clouds is the sun. God is always there. He will never leave or forsake you, even if all you can see is gloom and doom. Don't give up. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
