The Power of Fellowship | February 2, 2025Pastor Wes MorrisI John 1:1-4 (NLT) We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.Koinonia: A bond that unites believers with each other and with Jesus.I Corinthians 1:9 (NIV) God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.Acts 2:42 (NIV) They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.√ IT STARTS WITH PRIDE.√ WE SLOWLY DRIFT.√ WE ARE VULNERABLE TO THE ENEMY'S ATTACK.“Sin demands to have a man by himself. The more isolated a person is, the more destructive will be the power of sin over him.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer Ecclesiastes 4:8-10 (TLB) I also observed another piece of foolishness around the earth. This is the case of a man who is quite alone, without a son or brother, yet he works hard to keep gaining more riches. And to whom will he leave it all, and why is he giving up so much now? It is all so pointless and depressing. Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better. If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he's in trouble.THE POWER OF FELLOWSHIPRomans 12:5 (NLT) Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.I. TOGETHER WE ARE ENCOURAGED.Hebrews 3:13 (NIV) But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.I Thessalonians 5:11 (MSG) Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it.II. TOGETHER WE ARE CHALLENGED.Proverbs 27:6 (NLT) Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.James 5:16 (NIV) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.III. TOGETHER WE WIN.Exodus 17:10-13 (TLB) So Joshua and his men went out to fight the army of Amalek. Meanwhile Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. And as long as Moses held up the rod in his hands, Israel was winning; but whenever he rested his arms at his sides, the soldiers of Amalek were winning. Moses' arms finally became too tired to hold up the rod any longer; so Aaron and Hur rolled a stone for him to sit on, and they stood on each side, holding up his hands until sunset. As a result, Joshua and his troops crushed the army of Amalek, putting them to the sword.
Pastor Andrew Burchfield's sermon, "Keep the Faith In The Marketplace," encourages listeners to integrate their faith with their work and daily lives, viewing the marketplace as an essential place for ministry and leadership. The sermon reframes conventional ideas about leadership, wealth, and the role of faith in professional settings, inviting believers to see their work as a calling and an opportunity to positively influence the world around them. Redefining Leadership and Marketplace: Pastor Andrew reinterprets conventional definitions, broadening their scope to include everyday interactions and environments [1]. Leadership: Leadership is defined not by title or position but by the ability to positively influence the atmosphere and attitudes of others daily [2]. This definition encompasses various roles, including parents, employers, and employees [2]. Marketplace: The marketplace is any arena where conversations and influence occur, extending beyond traditional business settings to include schools, volunteer work, and even casual encounters at grocery stores [3, 4]. According to Pastor Andrew, the marketplace is a space for meaning, influence, and moments that honor Jesus [5]. Biblical Basis for Prosperity: The sermon addresses common misconceptions about wealth and Christianity, arguing that God empowers individuals to create wealth and achieve success [6]. Deuteronomy 8:18: This scripture is foundational, asserting that God gives people the power to generate wealth [6]. The sermon references multiple translations to highlight different aspects of this power [6, 7]: NIV: God gives the ability to produce wealth [6]. New Living Translation: God gives the power to be successful [7]. Amplified Bible: God gives the power to make wealth, remembered with profound respect [7]. Pastor Andrew clarifies that the ability to create wealth does not negate the need for hard work or the potential for hardship [6]. Old Testament Examples: The sermon cites numerous figures to illustrate that faith and prosperity are not mutually exclusive [8, 9]: Abraham: A wealthy livestock owner [8]. Isaac: Successful in agriculture [8]. Jacob: Managed large flocks and strategically bred animals [8]. Joseph: Managed a national food supply chain in Egypt [9]. Boaz: A wealthy landowner and grain merchant [9]. Solomon: Involved in international trade and shipping [9]. Lydia: A seller of purple cloth [9]. New Testament Examples: Peter, Andrew, James, and John: Fishermen before becoming disciples [9]. Matthew: A tax collector before becoming a disciple [9]. Practical Ways to Keep Faith in the Marketplace: Pastor Andrew offers practical guidance on integrating faith into daily interactions and professional conduct. He shares four ways to keep the faith in the marketplace, noting that six more are available on bwc.online [10]. Conversations: Words have the power to shape the world [10]. Referenced Scripture: Colossians 4:6 advises that speech should be gracious and thoughtful [11]. Character: Personal integrity influences one's impact [12]. Referenced Scripture: Proverbs 10:9 states that integrity ensures security [12]. Creativity: Innovation is a divine gift for solving problems and shaping the future [13]. Story of Bezalel from Exodus 31:2-5, who was gifted in creating the Tabernacle and Ark of the Covenant [14]. Consistency: Consistent actions create significant influence [15]. Referenced Book: The Atomic Habit by James Clear highlights the power of small, incremental improvements [15]. Referenced Scripture: Luke 16:10 emphasizes faithfulness in small matters [15]. Analogy of a Guitar: To underscore the importance of consistency, Pastor Andrew uses the analogy of a guitar. He explains that just as each string on a guitar must be properly tuned to create harmonious music, different areas of our lives (emotions, appearance, desires, physical health, and eternal perspective) must be consistent to live in harmony with God's will [16, 17]. Each string represents a different note: E, A, D, G, B, and E [16]. When one aspect is out of tune, it affects the overall quality and effectiveness of our lives and witness in the marketplace [16, 17].

The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! Our vision at New Life Church is that we are a community living in covenant love with each other. A covenant is distinct from a contract in that each side agrees to uphold their side of the agreement whether or not the other is faithful. We have to fight to stay in relationship with each other and we can only do that from the model and power of Christ's love. We want to live on fire in our faith, but without committed Christ centered relationships the fire will always go cold. “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. How do we stand against these attacks? How do we stop being pulled into defeat, discouragement, and doubt? How do we continue to walk in the freedom Christ afforded us? Galatians 5:1 tells us that we must, “stand firm”. This means that we keep standing no matter how hard Satan's pulling. SUBSCRIBE to our sister podcasts:Your Daily Prayer: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-prayer/Your Daily Bible Verse: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-bible-verse/ Full Transcript Below: Shutting Down Enemy Attacks Against You By Kelly Balarie “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Gal. 5:1 NIV Have you ever played a game of tug of war? In this game there are two groups of people pulling on each side of the rope. One side pulls and the rope, along with the people, go left. The other side pulls and the rope, along with the rope-holders, go right. Whatever team has the stronger amounts of tugs, the one who gains the most ground, eventually wins. If they can pull the other team to their side, they are victorious. The enemy tries the same strategy with us. He tries to pull us to his side and off the ground of God's truth. The devil says to us, “You are a horrible person, why try?” He tugs at our heart left. He adds, “You can't really believe that God will answer your prayer.” He tugs a little more and gains traction. He hits us again, saying, “Why go to church anymore? People only hurt you there.” The devil's goal is to pull us off the ground of God's truth so that we can be yoked to his lies. It is subtle. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Gal. 5:1 NIV God's side offers us freedom, even for today. Satan's side offers us slavery and burdens in life. Practically, we can do these three things to continue to stand: Wait on the Lord. New life for Jesus looked a lot different on day 3 than it did on day 2. Sometimes, just giving it a day offers a fresh perspective, coupled with resurrection life power. Use Scripture as a weapon. Remember Jesus in the wilderness? He did not just listen to the enemy's temptations, He defeated them with scriptural declarations. Memorize God's Word and then speak it aloud over feelings of defeat or disillusionment. Pray. You are not powerless; you are powerful in prayer. Pray that the devil will get behind you and that God will strengthen you to stand. Intersecting Faith & Life: How do you feel attacked by the enemy? What is coming against you that you know is not from the Lord? What would it look like for you to stand? You know, if we stand through a storm, eventually the storm moves on. No storm lasts forever. Nature shows us this. Likewise, what remains beyond the dark clouds is the sun. God is always there. He will never leave or forsake you, even if all you can see is gloom and doom. Don't give up. The "Living with Heart" Podcast is brought to you by Chip Dodd Resources (www.chipdodd.com) and The Voice of the Heart Center (vothcenter.com). Episode Highlights The focus of this episode is a recording of a men's retreat that Chip did in Texas in 1993. The retreat content was edited and put on CDs. The CDs were included with the first edition copies of The Voice of the Heart published in 2001. You've got to get defeated to become rich in this “God world”. God says that what He is after is our hearts. Our hearts that He made, that He created, that He loves. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV) What is feeding the roots of the tree? Its roots are planted in what feeds it, and it receives emotional and spiritual food. God feeds our hearts with emotional and spiritual food. God stamps our hearts with feelings, needs, desire, longings, and hope at birth. This is what God is after. This is what puts us into a relationship with the God of our forefathers. Through our feelings, needs, desire, longings, and hope we end up growing into a strong person who others can love and trust. Torment in our lives does not come from exposing the truth about our hearts; torment comes from the energy we take to keep our hearts hidden. We are as sick as the secrets we keep within us, from the smallest manipulation to the largest secret. The difference between an unhealthy family and a healthy family is the willingness to seek forgiveness. Healthy families seek forgiveness. Truths: Pain of the heart is the teacher. Love is the lesson. Life is the result. Sharing that is the practice. God loves us so much that He will go to any length to get us back. There is nothing we can do to earn it. God doesn't need anything we have. God does not need us: He craves us. He wants us. He wishes to be with us. Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:39-40 (NIV) God doesn't need us; We need Him. The price we pay for needing Him is having to go through the excruciating and glorious pain of being loved, without being able to do anything to get it. What we can do is live out our salvation. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He came to bring life and life abundantly. Click here to continue reading episode highlights from this episode.

Episode Highlights The focus of this episode is a recording of a retreat that Chip did in Texas in 1993. The retreat content was edited and put on CDs. The CDs were included with the first edition copies of The Voice of the Heart published in 2001. The CD intro song is “Capshaw.” The banjo is played by John Balch. It is available on iTunes and Spotify. John's website is hidebanjoheads.com. Living With Heart Podcast “Becoming a Portable Sanctuary” Episode 26 The message on the CD is just as true today as it was in 1993 when Chip did the retreat. Our God absolutely looks toward us, moves into our world, and changes our lives, not a little, but a lot, not as an event, but as a journey. Our God is not a god of an event; He is the God of the journey and the God of relationship. God is also our destiny. “Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9 (NASB) “…Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.” Revelation 22:17 (NIV) God is in pursuit of our hearts; He is in pursuit of what He created. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.” Psalm 139:13 When we came into this world, we were stamped with the image of God. God made us in His image. You and I were created to live fully. We were created as emotional and spiritual creatures, created to live fully in relationship with myself, with others, and with God. We are made to live fully in 3D. We're made to feel it. We're made to seek it. We're made to hurt over it. We're made to laugh about it. We're made to take joy in it. We're made to hunger, seek, and ask. We're made for play, and work, and creation, and sharing. We are made in the image of God! Everything about life is about relationship. The 18” journey from our heads to our hearts is the longest journey that we will ever take. It is a journey of wholeness. The journey never ends. If we don't make that 18” journey, we will be a failure. We will fail within the walls of our own home and we will never be of maximum service. THE FIRST RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY ADD TO OUR LIVES IS FAITH 2. THE SECOND RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY PURSUE IS MORAL EXCELLENCE 3. THE THIRD RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY GROW IN IS Knowledge 4. THE FOURTH RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY GROW IN IS self-control 5. THE fifth RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY PURSUE IS Perseverance 6. THE Sixth RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY GROW IN IS GODLINESS 7. THE seventh RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY GROW IN IS BROTHERLY KINDNESS 8. THE Eighth RUNG THAT WE DILIGENTLY GROW IN IS LOVE Eros- Love found in romantic relationships. Connected to falling or being in love. Storge- Love between family members. A protective love that can withstand hardships & trials PhilEO-Love between close friends. Describes the emotional feeling of a close friend. When David had finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan was bound to David in close friendship, and loved him as much as he loved himself. 1 Samuel 18:1 CSB Agape - Love that is unconditional and sacrificial. The love that God is and shows. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8 NIV God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16 NIV “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 ESV If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless. When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.[c] All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 If you love [agape] me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15 WHAT HINDERS US FROM LOVE? 1. LABELS Once you label me, you negate me. Soren Kierkegaard. Definitions belong to the definers- not the defined. Toni Morrison 2. FEAR Fear stifles the effects of love, this idea its us versus them, agreement or approval. True love challenges this fear, digs deep to uncover its roots, and replace it with an expansive and fearless love. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:17-19 Outrage is a double edged sword that initially feels gratifying but gradually corrodes one's being. Outrage is like a lot of other things that feel good but over times devour us from the inside out. Tim Kreider You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love[Agape] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Matthew 5:43-45 3. FALSE TRUTH What hinders the love of God from us to others is when we compromise his Truth with our experiential truths and values. It produces confusion in hearts and minds. WHAT HELPS US TO LOVE? LISTENING Listening is an expression of love. Reflecting our willingness to care, understand, and value others. So much of what we think we know about one another could be radically changed by a willingness to simply listen. 2. PRESENCE We can't love someone without Connection and that requires us to be PRESENT Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy - Warren Wiersbe “Technoference” - use of technological devices that interferes with or interrupts everyday normal family relations and interactions Withness - being with people in all their complexities and contradictions. The word became flesh and blood moving into our neighborhood. John 1:14 MSG For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 2 Cor 5:14-15 ESV 3. ACTION LOVE=CHARITY=ACTION SHARING WITH OTHERS OUR TIME, TALENTS, TREASURE, AND TESTIMONY IS THE BEGINNING OF PUTTING LOVE IN ACTION There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:13 NLT Selfless love transcends the boundaries of conditional affection and defies the notion that love is a quid-pro-quo exchange. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. 1 John 4:9-16 NIV

I'm supposed to strive to be like Jesus but he can be so mean sounding sometimes when reading the scripture. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Fresh Start – Who is Leading You in Your Relationships? James 1:23-25 (NIV)“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what the have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” Galatians 5:13-26 (NIV)“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” Consequences of the acts of the flesh 1. Strife James 3:16 (KJV)“where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” 2. Influence decreases 2 Timothy 2:14 (NIV)“Keep reminding God's people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.” 3. You misrepresent Christ to our world Matthew 5:13 (NIV)“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” 4. You harden other's hearts against truth Romans 2:4 (NIV)“…God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?” 5. Your heart becomes resistant to correction Proverbs 5:12-14 (NIV)“You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction!I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors. And I was soon in serious trouble…” 6. It poisons relationships Proverbs 29:23 (NKJV)“A man's pride will bring him low,But the humble in spirit will retain honor.” Benefits of the fruit of the Spirit. 1. Unity Psalm 133:1-3 (NKJV)“Behold, how good and how pleasant it isFor brethren to dwell together in unity!” “…For there the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.” 2. Our influence grows Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” 3. We represent Christ well to our world John 17:20-21 (NIV)“…I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” 4. It opens people's hearts to receive God's truth John 3:16-17 (NIV)“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” 5. We are open to receiving correction and instruction Proverbs 9:9 (NIV)“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.” 6. It cultivates relationships Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV)“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:Who, being in very nature God did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” 7. It will allow us to live life to the fullest John 10:10 (NIV)“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Fresh Start – Growing in Gratitude Towards Each Other Philippians 1:1-11 (NIV)“Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,To all God's holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” Growing in Gratitude 1. Intentionally look for things to be grateful for in your relationships. Philippians 1:3 (NIV) “I thank my God every time I remember you.” 2. Pray for the other person. Philippians 1:4 (NIV)“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy…” Philippians 1:9-11 (NIV)“And this is my prayer, that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to discern what is best and that you may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ and you may be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.” 3. Choose to believe the best about them. Philippians 1:6 (NIV)“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 13:7 (ESV)“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”1 Peter 4:8 (ESV)“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” 4. Rehearse Christ's affection towards you. Philippians 1:8 (NIV)“God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.” John 13:34 (ESV)“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”1 John 3:16 (NLT)“We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.'”Luke 23:42 (NIV)“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Cross of Redemption John 3:16 (NIV)“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.'”2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”1 John 4:10 (NIV)“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”Matthew 28:5-7 (NIV)“Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | March 17, 2024 Exodus 34:6-7 (NIV)And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; …” Romans 3:25-26 (NIV)God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Hebrews 10:10-14 (NIV) “The man who has faith is the man who is no longer looking at himself, and no longer looking to himself. He no longer looks at anything he once was. He does not look at what he is now. He does not look at what he hopes to be … He looks entirely to the Lord Jesus Christ and his finished work, and he rests on that alone.”— Martyn Lloyd-Jones 1 John 4:16-19 (NIV)And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.We love because he first loved us. Reflection Questions: What was something that stuck out to you from the sermon? Do you tend to view God as more loving/compassionate or more just/wrathful? Explain. Why do you think that is? How does the cross of Jesus show us the fullness of God’s LOVE and the fullness of His JUSTICE? We receive justification by faith. How do you define faith? How can faith actually become a “work” of righteousness to us? How would you paraphrase the quote(above) by Martyn Lloyd-Jones? It is the OBJECT of our faith and not the AMOUNT of our faith that save us. Agree or disagree? Explain. If we are justified freely (without cost or cause) what is our motivation to obey and follow Jesus? Why is fear of punishment or judgment not the motivation Jesus wants from us? Read 1 John 4:16-19 (above). Christianity is not at it’s core message a religion. It is a gospel (good news). It is not what we DO for God but what God has DONE for us. Good news is meant to be shared. What motivates you to share the good news with people in your world? What hinders you from sharing the good news with others? How can you overcome these barriers? Who will you invite to be part of our Easter gatherings where we celebrate the good news of Jesus? Sermon Notes Luke 11:1 (NIV) One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." Luke 11:2 (NIV) He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Luke 11:3-4a (NIV) Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. Luke 11:4b (NIV) "And lead us not into temptation." The early church prayed the "Our Father" three times a day (morning, noon, and night). Luke 11:2 (NIV) "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. "Our Father. Familiar words, maybe so familiar that they are no longer real. Those words were not only real, but also revolutionary to the twelve disciples. Pagan philosophers such as Aristotle arrived at the existence of God via human reason and referred to Him in vague, impersonal terms: the uncaused cause, the immovable mover. The prophets of Israel revealed the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in a warmer, more compassionate manner. But only Jesus revealed to an astonished Jewish community that God is truly Father." - Brennan Manning, The Furious Longing of God Luke 11:2 (NIV) "When you pray, say: " 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Hallowed = (Ἁγιασθήτω/Hagiasthētō) = Holy Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV) God's holiness means God does not see the world, our sins, and our problems the way we do. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. In this prayer, we see that God is both: 1) tough and tender. 2) intimate and infinite. 3) attentive and awesome. God desires both the intimacy of "Father" and the respect of "hallowed" Luke 11:5 (NIV) Then Jesus said to them, "Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; - Luke 11:6 (NIV) a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.' Luke 11:7 (NIV) And suppose the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can't get up and give you anything.' Luke 11:8 (NIV) I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. As a good Father, God delights in meeting all your needs. Luke 11:9 (NIV) "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:10 (NIV) For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:11-12 (NIV) "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? Luke 11:13 (NIV) If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" "If you took the love of all the best mothers and fathers who have lived in the course of human history, all their goodness, kindness, patience, fidelity, wisdom, tenderness, strength, and love and united all those qualities in a single person, that person's love would only be a faint shadow of the furious love and mercy in the heart of God the Father addressed to you and me at this moment." - Brennan Manning, The Furious Longing of God

Built For This – Freedom Ephesians 1:22-23 (NIV)“God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for [Faith] church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)“[We] are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that [we] may declare the praises of him who called [us] out of darkness into his wonderful light.”Acts 20:28 (NIV)“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.”Psalm 118:1,14-16 (NIV)“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”“The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: ‘The Lord's right hand is lifted high; the Lord's right hand has done mighty things!'”
Built For This – Built to Belong Romans 10:9 (ESV)“if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”Ephesians 2:19-22 (ESV)“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”1. Belonging to our local Church is how we express that we are apart of the family of God. Galatians 6:10 (NIV)“as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”Matthew 16:18 (ESV)“...I will build my church...”Ephesians 1:22-23 (NIV)“God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” “it is simply not possible to live a God center, Christ Center, spirit, lead life unless my life is also Church center,” - Sinclair Ferguson Matthew 12:47-50 (NIV)“Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”2. We belong to a family that is directed and sustained by God's word. 1 Timothy 4:6,7.11-17 (ESV)“If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed. Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; Command and teach these things. Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.”Acts 2:42 (ESV)“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching...”James 3:1 (ESV)“...my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.”Acts 20:28 (ESV)“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.”3. Belonging to the family of Faith Church is a commitment to be devoted to one another.Romans 12:10 (NIV)“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”Galatians 5:13 (NIV)"...serve one another humbly in love.”James 4:11 (NIV)“do not slander one another...”1 Peter 5:5 (NIV)“...clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”“it is grace, nothing but grace, that we are allowed to live in community with Christian brothers and sisters”- Dietrich Bon Hoffer from his book "life together Says 4. Belonging to the family of Faith Church means you are cared for by the pastors God has set in place. 1 Peter 5:2-4 (ESV)“ shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”Ephesians 4:11-16 (NIV)“Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work”Hebrews 13:17 (ESV)“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.”

Book of Romans: Overview | January 14, 2024Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor Romans 1:16-17 (NIV)For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Romans 1:5 (NIV)Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. Romans 1:7 (NIV)To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Romans 8:1-4 (NIV)Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Reflection Questions: Read Romans 1:1-17(Focus on 16-17 This is Paul’s thesis for whole book) Was there one thing that the Holy Spirit highlighted to you personally from the message?Have you ever felt STUCK in your faith? Share that experience. How did it feel? How did you get there? How did you get out?Where would you like to see BREAKTHROUGH in your life right now?The meaning of the word Gospel is “good news”. What is the difference between “good news” and “good advice”? How can understanding the message of the GOSPEL bring breakthrough in a person’s life? How can misunderstanding the GOSPEL keep us STUCK? “The righteousness of God is God’s righteous initiative in putting sinners right with himself, by bestowing on them a righteousness which is not their own, but his.” John Stott What difference does it make that our righteousness is bestowed/declared by God and not accomplished by us? How does this bring breakthrough and freedom to a follow of Jesus?Read Romans 1:5. What is the relationship between faith and obedience? Does genuine faith exist without a heart to obey? Martin Luther said, “We are saved by faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone.” What did he mean by this? Do you agree or disagree? Why?Where do you need to see the power of the Gospel message take root in your life? What is one next step of obedience you could take to express your faith and trust in the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus? Sermon Notes Luke 10:1 NIV After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. Luke 10:1 KJV After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. In Genesis 10: 70 nations listed in the Masoretic Text (Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament) 72 nations listed in the LXX (Greek Old Testament) Deuteronomy 32:7-9 NIV Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you. When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he (the Most High) set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. For the Lord's portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance. Acts 17:24-28 NIV "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they (you!) would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' Luke 10:2 NIV He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Jesus wants you to see yourself as sent by Him into your everyday life. Luke 10:3-4 NIV "Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road." Luke 10:16 NIV "Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me." Luke 10:17 NIV The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." Luke 10:18 NIV He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." Luke 10:19-20 NIV "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." I saw satan fall like lightning. I saw darkness run for cover. But the miracle that I just can't get over, My name is registered in heaven. This is my testimony from death to life. Cause grace rewrote my story, I'll testify! By Jesus Christ, the Righteous, I'm justified. This is my testimony! - My Testimony, Song by Elevation Worship Acts 17:27 NIV God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Jim Keena | Guest Speaker | January 7, 2024 How to find & fulfill your life’s purpose? “God’s redemptive promise was brought to Mary to grow in her, to be delivered through her, to change the world around her.” — Jack Hayford God’s Promise: Luke 1:26b-29 (NIV)God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. Luke 1:30-33 (NIV)But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” Mary’s Response: Luke 1:34-35, 37 (NIV)“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God…. For no word from God will ever fail. Luke 1:38 (NIV)“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Reflection Questions: Jack Hayford said, “God often works in people through prepositions. In Mary’s Life, ‘God’s redemptive promise was brought to Mary to grow in her, to be delivered through her, to change the world around her.’” Discuss Mary’s story in light of the prepositions “to, in, through, and around.” Discuss Henry Oswassa Tanner’s painting and the quote by Terry Glasper. What captured your attention?Have you had a “Mary Moment” in your life? A time when you sensed God calling you to obey. Can you summarize in a few sentences what your purpose in life is?
