The first voice heard on WFAN was that of Suzyn Waldman with a sports update at 3:00 pm,[11] followed by the first show, which was hosted by Jim Lampley. Waldman would report for the station, covering the Yankees and Knicks, for 14 years. Other personalities that hosted shows besides Lampley in the 1050 kHz years included Bill Mazer, Pete Franklin, Greg Gumbel and Ed Coleman. WFAN also inherited broadcast rights to the defending World Series champion New York Mets from WHN, who had held the rights for several years. Ratings were low initially but gradually improved. Baseball and BBQ Episode #162: Seattle Mariners TV Play-By-Play Announcer, Dave Sims and Dan Bosworth from Big Dan's Barbecue Plus We Debut a New Song From the Musician, Dave Dresser and the Poet, Shel Krakofsky Dave Sims has been the voice of the Seattle Mariners as their television play-by-play announcer since 2007.  In a long and illustrious career that began as a sportswriter for the New York Daily News, Dave has been involved with many different media forms.  We fondly remember Dave from his time at 66 WFAN, an all-sports radio station in New York.  Dave was paired with Ed Coleman for the midday show called The Coleman and the Soul Man, and it was incredible radio five days a week for almost four years.  As a baseball announcer, Dave called two perfect games in one year, becoming the first broadcaster to perform that feat in the same Major League Baseball season.         Dan Bosworth aka Big Dan has taken his love of cooking barbecue and turned it into a career as the pitmaster and owner of Big Dan's Barbecue in Catawissa, Pennsylvania.  Dan is a proud member of the National Barbecue & Grilling Association (NBBQA).  We talk about the Fall season at their family farm and how serving barbecue from a trailer at that farm has turned into a sit-down barbecue restaurant at that farm.  Dave is also the co-host of the wonderful podcast, BBQ Happy Hour, https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bbq-happy-hour/id1619130223 with his co-host, Mike Massiglia  aka Messy Mike.  More information on Dan can be found at https://www.bigdansbbq.com/home.html We conclude the show in a very special way by debuting the new song, I Got The Worst Cold Turkey End of Baseball Blues from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky.  The song with video can be found here, https://youtu.be/t5JIT_y72-A We recommend you go to Baseball BBQ, https://baseballbbq.com for special grilling tools and accessories, the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com  to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag, Magnechef, https://magnechef.com/ for excellent and unique barbecue gloves, Cutting Edge Firewood High Quality Kiln Dried Firewood - Cutting Edge Firewood in Atlanta for high-quality firewood and cooking wood, and Mantis BBQ, https://mantisbbq.com/ to purchase their outstanding sauces with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Kidney Project. Recently retired longtime WFAN Mets reporter Ed Coleman was honored by the New York Mets on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 for his over 20 years hosting Mets pre and post-game shows on WFAN and WCBS. Coleman began covering the Mets for WFAN in 1993, before retiring this offseason. “Eddie C” is an original member of WFAN since its inception in July 1987. He served as a talk show host (notably with both Dave Sims and Mike Francesa) before transitioning to the Mets beat. In this episode, Coleman explained his recent decision to retire from covering the Mets. He reveled in the stories from his time at both Shea Stadium and Citi Field. He also talked about the changes he's seen firsthand in the game of baseball. Overall, Ed talked about the many managers he covered, and so many of the players he dealt with during his time with the Mets.
