From 'Baseball Isn't Boring' (subscribe here): Few had such a great front row seat to the work and calls of Yankees broadcaster John Sterling than Sweeny Murti. That's why it was perfect timing for Rob Bradford to catch up with Sweeny to talk about all things Sterling, with the iconic voice of the Yanks stepping down from the booth Monday. Murti - who worked as part of the Yankees broadcast for WFAN for more than 20 years - offers great insight into all things Sterling. How he approached broadcast. Why his presence was so important. How he became so unique. And, of course, how he came up with those home run calls. It's a perfect tribute to the man of the hour. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but first, Stan's sent us some t-shirts since it's the Yankees home opener. Jerry has sound from the Knicks win over the Kings last night. They did win game 2, but it took seven innings to get a hit. The A's are heading to Sacramento and the owner is excited to see Aaron Judge hitting HRs in the minor league park. In the final segment of the hour, the Yankees head into the home opener today at 6-1. There's a picture of Derrick Rose that went viral and Gio couldn't figure out why. OG Anunoby was cleared for contact which is great news after the Julius Randle bad news.  Hour 2 We came out of a commercial with ‘In Bloom' by Nirvana. Today is 30 years since we lost Kurt Cobain. Jerry is here for another update and starts with Ron Darling from our show on opening day saying this is a playoff team, and then the booth yesterday saying they are at ‘rock bottom'. But the Mets did win game 2 of the doubleheader yesterday. Carlos Mendoza was excited to get his first win as Mets manager. Jackie Bradley Jr has signed with the Long Island Ducks, which Gio called, ‘rock bottom'. The Knicks beat the Kings but Julius Randle's season is over as he's having shoulder surgery. The Governor of NY got the MTA to not charge the NYC Marathon $750K for lost toll revenues. The Garden will be rocking with the Knicks and Rangers heading into the playoffs. Spike Lee was wearing some sort of Knicks puffy vest. Julius Randle is having season ending surgery. Boomer still thinks they can get to the finals without him. Gio said the Knicks are ‘unkillable', much like BT thought the Jets were. Jerry returns for his final update of the week, and he has audio of Sgt Slaughter on with BT and Sal yesterday. Tommy Lugauer was angry with Jeff McNeil, ‘swing a bat!!' Carlos Mendoza said they have too many good hitters for this to go on much longer. The Knicks came back from down 21 to beat the Kings. The Blue Jays kicked off their series with the Padres with a disappointing 9-1 loss, accentuated by a short start from Alek Manoah. Next up, Ryan Dempster of MLB Network's Intentional Talk, offers a pitcher's perspective on Manoah and what he's seen from him recently, before weighing in on the trade deadline and how it affects players on both sides of the coin (31:08). Later on, Sportsnet's own Dan Shulman shifts focus back to Alek Manoah and his next steps, as well as how Toronto's starting rotation might shape up in the coming weeks (51:36). Afterwards, MLB Network's Jon Morosi checks in from Anaheim to chat about Shohei Ohtani, the possibility he gets traded at the deadline, and what a trade package might look like (01:09:20). To close out today, Sweeny Murti chats about a great piece he recently published on MLB.com about the Jays' first round draft pick this year, Arjun Nimmala (01:25:00). The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Hour 2: Gio isn't really worried about the Verlander injury at this point in the season. It's a lot more serious that Julius Randle is out for the Knicks. The positive is that Jalen Brunson is there and other players will get a chance to step up and do it including Obi Toppin who can prove himself for real. A caller rudely checks in to say it wasn't so bad at Yankees Stadium and then how he enjoyed going over to see the Devils beat the Rangers. The always nice Diane calls us to say that she'll miss hearing Sweeny Murti for the post game but wishes Justin Shackil well. A caller is worried that hitters will catch up with David Robertson's pitches. Jerry is in and talks about how starting pitchers make too much money and that hurts in other areas. Brian Rascona disagrees. Audio of Buck Showalter talking about the Mets bullpen. A bit of a childish sidetrack about “loads”. The odd delay violation against Pete Alonso mentioned. A cut of the Gleyber Torres homerun and some audio issues for John Sterling. Aaron Boone on the victory. Judge on YES about his homerun. A clip from Chris McMonigle on the air excited about the Yankees win and with a faux pas on the air. Around the MLB with the scores. The Devils over the Rangers played again which of course tweaks Boomer. NBA scores as well. In the final segment, Gio pops on a Devils jersey because his other shirt had a stain (he says). Boomer is annoyed. A caller is concerned that the Rangers can't overcome low-scoring games. Boomer is bullish on the Rangers. Another caller claims Al Dukes is a shadow-banner and wants justice.

Hour 3: Is winning the division even important anymore in baseball? Maybe it's better to just be there at the end playing your best. Gio doesn't want to pay attention to what Jacob deGrom is doing. What is Shohei Ohtani's future in California? Is a trade coming this year? Ohtani might want to stay on the west coast. However, a trade might mean it being difficult to sign him because the P.A. will want to bust records with the amount of money he gets. A caller asks whether the pitch clock will cause more injuries for pitchers who have to go fast. Another caller is very negative about the Knicks after the Randle injury. Charlie M calls in and prompts talk of the scene in the movie Casino. Jerry's back with Jeff McNeil's contributions to the Mets victory. Nimmo on being ready to play. Max Scherzer likes the faster pace of the game but not the clock. Yankees win with a broken bat single from Judge. Aaron Boone makes odd sounds. Wayne Randazzo pbp of a Renfro catch. Travis Kelce can't remember the name of the Bengals head coach. The winning call from the Devils game as well as post game clips. Around the NBA including Giannis after the Celtics destroyed the Bucks. In the final segment, Mayor Eric Adams was in the YES booth yesterday and called Yankee Stadium “Yankee Park”. Gio is very critical. Boomer gives him a pass.

This episode focuses both on the original Quantum Leap series that aired on NBC from 1989-1993 and the 2022 revival series airing on NBC and Peacock. In the original series, Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and began leaping through time. In the current series, Dr. Ben Song stepped into the accelerator and well, you can see where that was headed. There are unique plot twists in the new show that feed directly from the original. At the time of this podcast, only two episodes of the new show have aired. Two extraordinary fans of the original series joined the podcast to discuss all things Quantum Leap.
