Our trio continues their coverage of Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series with their discussion of book 5, "Cruel Seduction." It should come as no surprise that the names of greek gods were butchered during this recording, but while Caitlin and Bridget are here for Katee's chaotic hook-ups and smut, Hilda's not really vibing with the series. That being said, all three of them had thoughts on that 2-in-1 scene. #iykyk Catch up on previous episodes in the series!Neon Gods: Apple Podcasts or SpotifyElectric Idol: Apple Podcasts or SpotifyWicked Beauty: Apple Podcasts or SpotifyRadiant Sin: Apple Podcasts or Spotify

It's the third episode of Season Three and we are talking about our some of our favourite fantasy and sci-fi romances which feature villains, morality chains and/or morally grey characters. A list of the books featured can be found below. There may be some plot point spoilers in our discussion of the books but as always with romance, we know there is going to be a HEA and our episodes aim to share the joy we take in following the characters on their journey towards it and prompt conversations exploring why SFF romance is so fantastic. These are adult romances, so warning for explicit language and please check content warnings for the book before listening if there are topics that you might find upsetting to hear about. We're going way back to ancient myths in this episode, taking a look at some books and movies that reimagine these eternal, compelling stories in a sexy-modern, romantic and exciting way. Thanks to my special guest--listener and writer Mariah--for gushing with me yet again on this episode. You're the best!https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comBooksNeon Gods is the spectacular Book 1 in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert. Electric Idol is the fabulous Book 2, and the third book of the four-book series, Wicked Beauty, will be published next month. I'm beyond excited. This episode included an excerpt from Stephen Fry's fantastic Mythos audiobook. It's a collection of Greek myths, retold by the beloved British writer, actor and comedian.Movies/TV ShowsJoseph Campbell's The Power of Myth is a classic book and TV show, and both are well worth the time. I don't watch a lot of movies based on comic book characters, but I was absolutely stunned at how compelling and impressive Wonder Woman was —both the movie and the title character, played by Gal Gadot (one day, I'll pronounce her entire name correctly).Mighty Aphrodite is an ironic take on the eternal push-pull of love and desire. Not every joke has aged well but there's still a lot of clever charm in the story. Mira Sorvino is phenomenal — she won an Oscar and Golden Globe for her performance.Lore Olympus is a super popular webtoon that's now being adapted as a YA animated series.Support the show

Bridget and Breana embark on the brand new (and highly anticipated) book by Katee Roberts: Electric Idol, the sequel to Neon Gods. And there's a lot to talk about. Breana didn't disappoint - we chat mommy issue boys, fake dating plots, assassins who snuggle, court politics of socialite gods, and enemies to lovers: where it goes right and where it goes wrong. There's plenty of comparison to Neon Gods, but we give Electric Idol its fair shot and its dues (though Breana is not thrilled about a blond love interest). The Dark Olympic series continues with the story of Eros and Psyche, except not really? Both Meg and Laine thought this book's greatest weakness was how few parallels there were to the myth. Otherwise, there's a lot to enjoy here from the wedding day/night sex to the sex in front of mirrors.
If you are a fan of Katee's work or an author who is struggling to find the fun in writing and publishing - you're going to love this conversation. Katee opens up about her process and the creation of her Dark Olympus series. She also talks about how she creates and responds to her fandom. We discuss burnout and using sex that tells a story. Oh! And her book Electric Idol - we talk about that, too. Katee Robert is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance and romantic suspense. Entertainment Weekly calls her writing “unspeakably hot.” Her books have sold over a million copies. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, children, a cat who thinks he's a dog, and two Great Danes who think they're lap dogs. As we head toward the finale, the episodes just seem to get more dense and we are here for it! We're introduced to a new villian named Rience (rhymes with science!) and his accomplice, Lydia. We also get to see Yennefer and Jaskier play out one of Daria's favorite tropes as they continue to be on the run in Oxenfurt. Vesemir and Triss confirm Ciri's blood can make the Witcher mutagen/serum/poison but Ciri has some high demands in order for them to use it. And our boy Geralt finds out that Yennefer did not die in the Battle of Sodden Hill which leads to a delicious conversation between both of Yen's exes. We also chat about the wild snowstorm that hit Jenny this past weekend, how Daria does not enjoy winter as dog owner, but there is a new season of Queer Eye and RuPauls' Drag Race and that is making Daria's icy walks way more tolerable! Jenny also reminds listeners to check out Katee Robert's newest release, Electric Idol. As always, please Subscribe/Rate/Review! If you liked the podcast recommend us to your friends!
