She is the granddaughter of a 32nd-degree Freemason of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine - a Purple Heart-decorated Air Force veteran - and the niece of a nuclear health physicist who worked at the Nevada Test Site. Her great-great-grandmother immigrated from Sicily with ties to the mob and was an Italian woman of esoteric power who stood at the head of tables, bold and matriarchal.
