The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy found that 96% of UK entrepreneurs admit to ‘bottling up' the stress of running their business. Many founders are clearly overwhelmed with too much on their shoulders, leading some to feel a sense of unproductive busyness. So, I wanted to hear from a founder who has cracked the code of productivity. Emily Austen is the founder of leading PR agency EMERGE and the author of SMARTER: 10 lessons for a more productive and less-stressed life, publishing this autumn. Having founded EMERGE in 2012, Emily has navigated entrepreneurship and discovered a tried and tested formula for avoiding unproductive busyness. Keep listening to hear Emily's advice on how founders can avoid becoming busy yet unproductive and why tracking your energy rather than your time can help unlock your productivity. Welcome to The Busi-Ness Podcast.I'm Emily Austen, founder and CEO of London based PR Agency, EMERGE. I am passionate about launching and scaling small businesses, and have been fortunate enough in my 13 year career, to work with some of the most exciting, category defining brands in the world. I started my business when I was 22 years old, fresh out of University. Since that time, the world has got louder. Our expectations have got harder, and our lives have become busier. Fobbing friends off with the stock answer we have all became accustomed to, ‘I'm so busy,' is an attempt to compel, conflate and convince. But when did being too busy become a mark of status? Why is the goal to never have any free time? And just what the fuck is everyone doing? Are we setting unrealistic expectations for future entrepreneurs and business owners, by encouraging them that a maniacal approach to diarising is the standard? This podcast aims to give you a realistic, detailed insight into the honest stories, the failures, the triumphs, the intricacies, the mistakes, the come backs, the fuck ups, from those set to make their mark; the leaders, movers and shakers, trailblazers and game changers. We cover imposter syndrome, cashflow, hiring and firing, call out culture, resilience, anxiety, global growth, daily routines + knowing when to quit, choosing the best in the Busi-ness, to help you cut through the noise, and optimise your success. Welcome to the first episode of Start Fail Repeat! It's great to have you here :)Really excited for you to listen to this interview with Emily. She speaks openly (and hilariously) about the reality of founding and running a business, and offers loads of practical tips. Enjoy!Emily M Austen is the founder and CEO of EMERGE, an award winning PR Agency, with offices in London and LA, pivotal to the launch and scale for a number of global brands, including Huel, Spanx, 1Rebel, rewardStyle, Nickelodeon, Rayban and ViaVan. The 20 strong female team, turning over more than £3million per year, was started by Emily at 22. After pivoting to consider how to help the early stages of start-ups lives, Emily launched EMERCH, a merchandising arm of the business to deliver tangible product for gorilla marketing, and brand equity. The division is set to turnover over a million pounds in its first year. In order to provide innovative services for start ups, Emily started E-Cap, a seed round funding brokerage, and will launch her own VC fund in 2020, with a starting capital of £5million. Over her career, she has raised over £100million for start ups across the wellness, fitness, tech and feminine care sectors. Emily is also the Strategic PR Advisor to UN Women UK, tackling challenging conversations such as domestic violence and gender equality, and working with the General Assembly to affect change.
This Saturday, NC State will host No. 21 Liberty in its lone non-conference matchup of the season at Carter-Finley Stadium. While the Flames have put themselves on the map in the college football world, we had Emily Austen of Flame Central TV join us to break down Liberty's special season. How has Hugh Freeze completely overhauled the Liberty program? What makes Malik Willis such a dynamic quarterback? Which defensive players will NC State fans need to know? Get all that and more on this week's Pregame Podcast!
Jon continues hour three by talking to a former colleague, and now a reporter, and host for all things Liberty Football Emily Austen. Jon starts things off by asking Emily how the transition from Atlanta to Liberty has been, and Emily responds by saying she misses the big city, but is happy to be a part of something special at Liberty. Next, Jon asks about star quarterback Malik Willis, and asks Emily to talk about his growth and development. Emily responds by saying that Malik has come such a long a way, and says that head coach Hugh Freeze says that Malik has made “monumental jumps” in his development. Emily continues by saying that at first Malik was “over compensating” and was almost “too athletic” but now he’s making the right reads, and playing great. Next, Jon asks about Hugh Freeze, and how long he might be at Liberty with all the success he’s having so far. Emily says that to be realistic “if an SEC comes knocking it’s hard to turn down an offer like that” but his family is happy and “Liberty is a special place.” Finally, Jon asks Chuckery how life is in Lynchburg, Virginia compared to living in Midtown Atlanta. Emily responds by saying “she’s a chill laid back girl, but she’s got a dog out there and she’s happy she’s got sports in her life.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In 2016, Emily Austen appeared on a Barstool Sports broadcast. Comments she made on that video would not only cost her an amazing job that she worked hard for, but also sent her into an emotional 3-year tailspin. Battling depression and past mistakes, Emily relied on her faith, friends and family, and worked hard to help others in high school and college avoid those same mistakes. In this follow up show, Austen shares about her new job, what she's learned, and the forgiveness she now lives in! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/les-norman/support
Week Zero of the college football season was ugly. But good news! Sports Extra moves into Week One, which is an actual number. Also: Braves and Falcons. Wes Blankenship hosts, with guests Emily Austen, Jake Reuse and Radi Nabulsi.
Austen was on the fast track as one of Fox Sports newest and brightest sideline reporters for the Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic. In just one FB Live audition interview with Barstool Sports, it all changed. While just trying to be funny, Emily made a few insensitive remarks that immediately got her fired from her dream job. Death threats, depression and shame led her down a dark place... Now speaking at colleges and institutions across the country, Ms. Austen is now helping student-athletes avoid her mistakes and create their social media brand the proper way. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/les-norman/support
”Don’t take on Big Money. Because the moment you take on big money, it’s like sliding doors. Your world is determined. You’ve turned left and the options of right will never come back to you ever again. And the amount of people who have never asked themselves ‘Where do I want to be when I’m 70’...put your hands up if you’ve answered that question” At our latest London event, we got FOUR amazing brands to tell you how they did it. Hear from entrepreneurs Holly Tucker (notonthehighstreet.com, Holly & Co), Merlie Calvert (Legal Tech Startup Farillio), Emily Austen (EMERGE Public Relations) and Vasiliki Petrou (Unilever Prestige Group) on how you can start to develop a brand that’s attractive to customers on little or no budget and then how to grow it to a wider audience. Customers now want to know the story behind the business, what it stands for, and why they should care! You don’t need a multi-million pound budget to start building your brand. We've got four amazing entrepreneurs and their brands to tell you how they did it. Let's StartUp!
Former Fox Sports Rays reporter, Emily Austen joined Ron Diaz and Jay Recher on Friday afternoon. Emily gave us her story, what she is doing to help student athletes now, and why she isn't going to let that moment define her.
"I remember when I wrote my business plan for crowdcube and I think I said that we would be a £3 million brand in 5 years time and in our second year we beat that... and suddenly the goalposts moved". On this weeks show I speak to two incredibly successful female entrepreneurs still in their twenties. Pippa Murray from Pip and Nut launched her nut butter brand in 2015 and now has retail sales of over £9 million and is stocked in over 3,000 stores from Fortnum & Mason to Selfridges. I also speak to Emily Austen who founded PR Agency Emerge as a 22 year old graduate specialising in fashion and lifestyle and now has 18 staff and a turnover of 7 figures.
Emily Austen is a former reporter for Fox Sports. She also had stints at the Golf Channel and as a digital reporter with the Boston Celtics. In 2016, she was fired from her job for making offensive remarks on a Facebook LIVE interview with Barstool Sports. Her firing went viral and her story made national news. In the immediate aftermath, after apologizing, Emily went to a very dark place. Emily has since rebounded and has been determined to turn her mess into a message of positivity by renewing her faith in Christ and speaking to colleges about the mistake she made and the importance of words and what we say about others. On this episode of the podcast, Emily shares why her dream was to become a sports reporter, how the incident with Barstool Sports came about, what she learned, how her faith in Christ was renewed and what she is doing now to change the narrative and be a positive light to college students.
