Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. The Vancouver Whitecaps continue an epic 2025 with a 2-0 win in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup over Inter Miami in front of a huge crowd at BC Place. Brian White and Sebastian Berhalter scored the goals for the Whitecaps. White has established himself in my opinion as the best option up top for the USMNT right now, while Berhalter is pushing hard for inclusion in the squad for this summer's Gold Cup. You can't count Miami out going back to Ft. Lauderdale, but they will need another huge 2nd leg performance at home in this competition to get to the final. In Orlando Saturday night, Atlanta United will look for the response that has been lacking at times in 2025 as they face the Lions. Neither team has scored in their last two matches, Orlando has had three straight 0-0 draws, we'll see if either can find their shooting boots for this one. Pregame coverage starts at 6pm on 92.9 The Game and the Audacy app with Abe Gordon and Madison Crews from our Colony Square studios in Midtown Atlanta, Mike Conti and I will take over from Orlando ahead of the 7:25pm kickoff. Evander will try to score in his fourth straight match for Cincinnati as they host Kansas City this weekend. Charlotte will try to keep pace with Cincinnati and win their 9th straight at home as they host New England. LAFC hosts St. Louis in Sunday Night Soccer, Denis Bouanga has scored in the last two matches for LAFC and even Olivier Giroud scored for LAFC last time out in that wild 3-3 draw with Portland. Andre Blake could join 8 other goalkeepers in the history of the league with his 80th shutout if he can achieve that against DC United on Saturday. World Sevens Football, a 7v7 women's competition that will see 8 teams compete for a $5 million prize pool in the first event next month in Portugal. Ajax, Manchester United, Benfica, and Bayern Munich will send teams to play in the event. Auckland FC could clinch the regular season title in the A-League this weekend with a draw, they would be the first New Zealand club to achieve that feat in Australia's top flight. Teams have won the regular season in their first season in the league, but no one has done the double with the Grand Final. Auckland FC will be trying to change that. The Copa Del Rey final is Saturday with Barcelona favored over Real Madrid. The rumors about Brazil's interest in Carlo Ancelotti continue to heat up, with Jorge Jesus seen as a clear second choice to the current but maybe not for long Real Madrid manager. FA Cup semifinals this weekend will see Nottingham Forest try to defeat Manchester City for the second time in as many months while Aston Villa tries to find some success at Wembley against a struggling Crystal Palace side. The finalists will be determined for the UEFA Women's Champions League this weekend as well. Barcelona have a three-goal cushion going to London to face Chelsea, trying to reach their 5th straight final as they go for the ThreePeat. Lyon's late winner in London in the first leg gives them the home advantage against Arsenal 2-1. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

Break 2: TOM WAGES ***STRIPERS REPORT*** STORY 4: Georgia Sees 10.5% Growth in Total Housing Units Over the Past Decade The United States grapples with a critical affordable housing shortage, underscored by a shortfall of millions of units. This predicament stems from a complex web of factors, including stringent regulations, escalating construction costs, and the enduring aftermath of the Great Recession. While regions like the Mountain West and Sun Belt have witnessed notable housing developments, areas such as West Virginia and parts of the Great Lakes region have experienced stagnation or negligible growth. Moreover, the pace of housing development does not always match up with demographic trends, posing affordability issues in certain locales. In Georgia, for instance, the number of housing units rose by 10.5% between 2012 and 2022, marginally exceeding population growth. However, this period also saw median home prices skyrocket by 157.7%. Tackling the housing shortage demands a multifaceted approach, focusing on policy reform, increased construction activity, and bolstering affordable housing initiatives. STORY 5: PrizePicks to locate new headquarters in Atlanta Governor Brian Kemp has officially announced that PrizePicks will establish its new headquarters in Atlanta, marking a significant $25 million investment and promising the creation of 1,000 jobs within the next seven years. The new headquarters, occupying 33,000 square feet in the Star Metals Building at Midtown Atlanta, signifies a major boost to the city's innovation ecosystem. This strategic move underscores Georgia's burgeoning reputation as a technology and innovation hub, supported by a skilled workforce and robust infrastructure. The expansion of PrizePicks is poised to make a considerable economic contribution to Atlanta, reflecting the state's dedication to promoting technological innovation and employment opportunities. We'll be back in a moment. The grant application process begins next Monday, accompanied by workshops designed to guide applicants through the submission procedure. The state's strategy emphasizes a meticulous and impactful response to the opioid epidemic, prioritizing areas such as medication-assisted treatment, prevention initiatives, and recovery support services. Sheriff Gary Sisk has underscored the critical nature of the drug crisis and the imperative for a sincere commitment to recovery efforts. This program advocates for transparency and seeks to integrate insights from those with firsthand experience of addiction, underlining the value of their perspectives in the fight against substance abuse. STORY 7: Virtual reality sessions could help cancer patients lessen pain: study A recent study published by the American Cancer Society reveals that ten-minute sessions of virtual reality therapy can significantly alleviate pain in cancer patients, with effects persisting beyond the duration of the session. This innovative approach has demonstrated superior efficacy in pain reduction compared to traditional distraction methods, such as using an iPad. The research involved 128 adult cancer patients suffering from moderate to severe pain, who were randomly assigned to either VR or iPad therapy sessions. Findings highlighted a more pronounced decrease in pain levels among participants in the VR group, with the relief extending up to 24 hours post-session. The study advocates for further investigation into the application of VR therapy across various outpatient contexts and for different manifestations of cancer-related pain, underscoring its potential as a non-pharmacological option for managing discomfort in cancer patients. We'll have final thoughts after this. Break 4: INGLES 4 Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. About The Founder: Dale DeSena is the Founder and CEO of Taste of Atlanta, a recipe that DeSena cooked up 22 years ago. Taste of Atlanta is a culinary festival that features prominent restaurants in the Atlanta area. The festival was not only a way to explore new restaurants in the area but to connect with other culinary professionals while enjoying delicious bites, wine, beer, and cocktails. DeSena started her career working in advertising and sales and started her own custom publishing firm. From there, DeSena got a job with Music Midtown and worked with the festival for 10 years. Over the years, she started working with more festivals and events such as the Atlanta Dogwood Festival and the Atlanta Arts Festival. DeSena was ready for more and had a savory passion to create a food and culinary experience. In 2022, DeSena expanded her horizon and broke down the once-a-year festival into 4 different events in various Atlanta areas: Alpharetta, Chamblee, Sandy Springs, and Midtown. These events are a must-visit destination and create a fun environment for food lovers to try new and tasty bites. Although DeSena has a strong love for the festival, her creativity and ideas don't stop there. DeSena also works with multiple community organizations that specifically help those in the food and beverage industry. The culinary job bank is another asset that DeSena created for the food and beverage scene. It is an application for people to get a job at different restaurants and makes it easier to get in contact with multiple restaurants. ► Luxury Women Handbag Discounts: https://www.theofficialathena.... ► Become an Equus Coach®: https://equuscoach.com/?rfsn=7... ► For $5 in ride credit, download the Lyft app using my referral link: https://www.lyft.com/ici/ASH58... ► Review Us: https://itunes.apple.com/us/po... ► Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/c/AshSa... ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/1lov... ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ashsa... ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/1loveAsh ► Blog: http://www.ashsaidit.com/blog #atlanta #ashsaidit #theashsaiditshow #ashblogsit #ashsaidit®

The McEachern girls dominated the first half, then fought off a strong comeback by Campbell in the second to take a 50-47 victory over their longtime county rivals in the second round of the Class AAAAAAA state basketball tournament at Lovinggood Arena on Saturday. It was all McEachern in the first half as it led 30-15 at halftime, but Campbell outscored the Indians 32-20 in the second half to narrow the margin. With the win, McEachern advanced to the state quarterfinals for the 10th time in 13 years. The Indians will host Central Gwinnett in the state quarterfinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. The McEachern boys earned its seventh state quarterfinal appearance in eight years with a resounding 88-51 victory over Westlake in the second round of the Class AAAAAAA state tournament at Lovinggood Arena on Saturday. With the win, McEachern will now host county rival Wheeler in a quarterfinal showdown between the top two ranked teams in the state in the ScoreAtlanta pre-tournament Class 7 A boys' state rankings – with the Wildcats ranked Number 1 and the Indians Number 2. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday. The Black History Month dinner hosted by the city of Smyrna, called off multiple times in recent years because of the pandemic, convened Friday evening at the Smyrna recreation center. More than 150 people were eager to listen to the night's keynote speaker, Erica Armstrong Dunbar, author of “She Came to Slay: The Life and Times of Harriet Tubman.” Councilman Lewis Wheaton welcomed and thanked the guests for coming, reminding them that the proceeds from the evening would benefit the foundations for Griffin and Campbell middle schools, before introducing Dunbar to loud applause. Dunbar's goal was to reintroduce people to Harriet Tubman. Tubman is best known as the most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad — a network of secret routes slaves used during the 1800s to escape to freedom. Tubman would make the journey to lead people out of enslavement at least 13 times. Dunbar discussed how the Black Lives Matter movement reminds Americans of the people and names who have been and continue to be lost to violence, adding that social reform is an ongoing process. With her book, Dunbar said she was trying to tell the story of a complex woman who dedicated her life to social justice, and how her influence still inspires new generations. After the presentation, a long line formed to get books autographed by the author, particularly some young readers, who remarked that they really loved hearing about Harriet Tubman. Several hundred people ran full tilt into Lake Acworth on Saturday — some of them in costume. The brisk excursion was part of the “Polar Plunge,” an annual national fundraiser for the Special Olympics. The money will help run and sponsor athletes for the state's Special Olympics, which will be at Emory University in May. The event was jointly organized by the Special Olympics of Georgia and Law Enforcement Torch Run, a long-running campaign among law enforcement professionals who support the Special Olympics. Several local law enforcement agencies raised money and submerged officers and staff, including the Kennesaw and Acworth police departments, and the Cobb County Sheriff's Department, the latter of which won the costume contest by riding into the lake on toy horses. The water temperature inside the lake was estimated to be in the upper 50s. Matthew Wynne, a Special Olympics athlete who grew up in Alpharetta, said the cold water is part of what makes the event fun, and he wouldn't have minded if the water had been more frigid. Georgia Milton-Sheats, CEO of Special Olympics Georgia since 1999, ran into the lake alongside other Special Olympics organizers. She said almost 500 people raised money and registered for the plunge, and the event raised more than $230,000. State Senator Ed Setzler, filed legislation this week to reimpose Republicans' county commission district map on the Cobb Board of Commissioners. Senate Bill 236 mirrors the map passed last year by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp, which drew Democratic Commissioner Jerica Richardson out of her seat. The proposal comes after Setzler filed a bill — SB 124 — explicitly prohibiting Georgia counties from drawing their own district lines, which the commission's Democrats have been working to do since October. If passed, the tandem bills could overrule the Democrats' “home rule” effort designed to amend the district lines and keep Richardson in office. Though Republican officials, including Attorney General Chris Carr, have said the home rule bid is unconstitutional, Richardson and her two Democratic colleagues on the Cobb Board of Commissioners maintain the effort is legal. Richardson said were the legislation to be passed, it would end her tenure on the board. East Cobb resident Larry Savage, meanwhile, challenged the constitutionality of the home rule effort in a lawsuit filed just before the new year. That lawsuit was later withdrawn, with Savage saying a follow-up suit was forthcoming. That suit, however, has yet to materialize. This is a story about a person who was dealt a band hand in life multiple times, yet used positivity, perseverance and confidence to overcome tragedy and become a success. Sean Chang is now the owner of the successful restaurant MUKJA Korean Fried Chicken in Midtown Atlanta, GA. ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Sean Chang was born in Los Angeles, California in 1997 and grew up with a diverse exposure to food from a young age. From taco trucks with his dad at work, Argentinian Korean fusion family gathering meals, to traditional Korean meals these moments seeded and nurtured Sean's obsession and interest with food. Moving to Buford, Georgia in 2006, Sean's familiarity of diverse cuisine grew to eating more suburban American food such as Chili's and Waffle House. Only eating Korean food at home when he had time with his family. However, despite the lack of diversity of food, this only furthered his connection with food. With the abundance of culinary social media, from food shows to the beginning stages of YouTube, Sean found comfort in his early teen years cooking for others and finding joy in the commonality of what food could bring to the table. The discussions started over a small meal from all walks of life is what ultimately sold him on the importance of a good meal. Fast forward a few years later, Sean faces a life-changing accident that leaves him paralyzed from the waist down for life, not only crippling him but also his dreams of pursuing a culinary career. However, that did not stop him from chasing after the impossible. He attended Georgia State University with a degree in Hospitality and opened up Mukja Korean Fried Chicken with his friend Peter Chung and still runs it today with aspirations to continue the brand and explore larger opportunities to bring more concepts to the South- East. ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- If you enjoy this episode or want to support the podcast, the best way you can help is to share the pod.
