Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY, TRY AGAIN and FIRST THINGS FIRSTIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. It's a bit of a long one, isn't it? We actually sometimes just say the beginning of this phrase, we say, if at first you don't succeed, and then people might respond by saying, try, try again. And it's a phrase we use to talk about how in life, sometimes you just need to try to do something more than once before you have success. You might have this with learning English, maybe your first English conversation didn't go very well. But the secret to success when learning a language is, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. We also had this on our farm with some of the things that we grow. We've tried to grow certain things in the past, and maybe the fertility in the soil wasn't right. Or maybe that certain type of plant got too much water, or not enough water. And our motto has always been, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I, as a teacher, would insert in there, if at first you don't succeed, do some research, and then try, try again.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe second phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase first things first. This is a bit of a repeat. For those of you that have been around for more than two years, I did teach this phrase a couple of years ago. It means when you're going to do something, there are a number of things you probably have to do. Do the most important things first. A good example of this would be if you're going on a trip, first things first, you should make sure the car has gas in it. You should make sure the car has had a recent oil change. You should make sure that if it's winter, you have snow tires on your car. First things first means that you do the most important things first. Once all that's done, then you pack your things in the car, and you get in the car, and you start driving. But first things first, you might want to make sure the car is ready to go.So to review, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again is a funny little phrase we say, and we do say this. I think my mom just said it the other day. It just means that when you try something, it doesn't always go well the first time. So you should make sure you don't quit. You should make sure you try again. And when we say first things first, it simply means that if you're doing something, and there are five things to do, do the most important one or two things first. But, hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Turong, and the comment is my English learning goals for this week are to watch at least one short video in English, and write a short comment on it every day. I hope to be able to make it. My response was make it happen, you can do it.I used to watch a show called Star Trek, and Jean-Luc Picard was the captain, and he would say make it so, and that basically means do it, get it done. You can do it.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadian)
As a Christian, what is the most important part of your day? In Luke 10, we have the story of whenever Jesus visited the home of Mary and Martha. The passage reminds us of the priority that Jesus places upon his followers spending time with him. In our Christian life we are called not only to work and witness but also in worship. Colin starts off by defending Dana White's often criticized business model, and explains why the Steelers should ignore Big Ben when it comes to paying TJ Watt (1:00). Then, FS1's First Things First co-host Nick Wright and Colin discuss which future Hall of Fame QB - not named Tom Brady - is the best career comp for Aaron Rodgers (13:00), why Rodgers might be sick of living in Green Bay (18:00), if Tampa can cover as sizeable favorites against the Cowboys in the season opener (34:00), if Cam Newton has an NFL future (39:00), what winning trait Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury both lack in Arizona (49:00), the latest updates from Nick's 2nd job as a high stakes poker player (54:00), and Nick's two NFL sleeper teams that no one is giving a shot (59:00). This week our guest speaker is Gregg Gober, Pastor of Hope Community Church, here in Brooklyn. With so much division in the church today among believers (mask/no mask, vaccine/no vaccine) how can we get back into alignment with the task Christ has given us? Today we take a look at 1 Tim 2:1-6 and the first thing Paul told young pastor Timothy to focus on in the church. The message is still applicable today as the task Christ has given us all remains the same. What worries you? Whatever it is reveals a lot about what we value. What we value determines our priorities. Family, finances, health – and on the list goes. Anxiety rates are going through the roof, not helped by things like the pandemic and current world events. In the midst of our concerns, Jesus invites us to pay attention to what takes our attention, and shift our focus to God's kingdom. But what is God's kingdom? In this sermon, Brendon Walmsley continues our “First Things First” series by taking a look at why Jesus told us to place God's kingdom highest on our list of priorities. 2021-08-22 Elder Isaac Bickford Acts 17:1-9 1. Opposition to the Gospel in Thessalonica was not a fleeting problem. 2. Opposition to the Gospel is expected, but we must be sure it is for the Gospel we are opposed, not for our own sinful behaviors or attitudes. 3. Keep first things first. If you are a Christian, you have: i. 1-2 people who don't yet know Christ, whom God has uniquely placed in your life for YOU to encourage them, build them up, and show them what the Kingdom of God is like. ii. 1-2 Christians whom God has uniquely put into your life for you to actively mentor and disciple them. It's very possible that God wants them to mentor you right back, so don't think you have to somehow know all the answers in those relationships. iii. And somewhere around half a dozen Christians with whom God is calling you to a ministry that is somewhat less intense, but no less important, a ministry of encouragement and fellowship.
Following Jesus was never meant to be complicated. Sometimes it's easy to be distracted by religion and lose sight of what Jesus said was important. Significant events unfolding in the world remind us of God's call for justice and mercy. How do we, as followers of Jesus, prioritise and enact our beliefs so they become more than a “nice idea”? In the first segment "First Things First," Jenn and Daren talk about how important it is to take lessons from the past year or two since COVID-19. For Black people, this time has shown us exactly how anti-Black and white supremacist these institutions are and how they often harm Black life. In the second segment, "The Conversation," Daren shares the data about the increased vulnerability of Black folx and other people of color during the COVID-19 crisis. Jenn explains how this disproportionate marginalization must be addressed through healing justice for ourselves and our communities. In the third segment, "The Reflection," Jenn and Daren share what they have been doing to practice healing and self-care in their own lives. We do “adult” differently. We are That Black Couple. Our goal is to create a space for Black millennials to discuss and embody adult life on their own terms. We aren't beholden to “traditional” gender or parenting roles, queerness is fluid and present in the ways we show up in our relationships and in the world, and we want to build community with other 30-something Black folx who are trying to figure this ish out.

Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 10, verse 34 - Chapter 11, verse 1Late pod today - thanks for your patience! Jesus concludes his instruction to the disciples before sending them out...and what he reminds them ultimately is that a) this won't be easy 2) this won't bring peace and iii) you better make sure that you are grounded in the right thing. Anything less and you're looking for something that just isn't there.
Are you putting off something that is truly a priority for you because you don't THINK you have the time to do it? Perhaps it's time to assess your priorities and set or reset your meaningful goals. Doing this will give you a sense of freedom and ground you in your integrity. This concept helps you do this.
