Hello Everyone, Enjoy this little bonus end of the week free just audio episode I decided to put together of my podcast. I cut together me today recapping the very first episode of the first podcast I ever did called "Fixing Joe" with my guest Bill Burr. The interview with Bill was back in around 2010ish just after I got fired from a comedy club in Hartford, CT for losing it on hecklers 2 shows in a row. Bill was perfect guest and was promoting the DVD version of his Comedy Central Special "Let It Go". Enjoy this, he's hilarious as he's giving me great advice about dealing with hecklers at shows and a lot more. I've been seen on The Howard Stern Show, WTF with Marc Maron, The Late Show with David Letterman, Comedy Central Presents Joe Matarese (His Own 1/2 Hour Special), The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson, Last Comic Standing, The Better Half, Chelsea Lately, Americas Got Talent, and my two Specials on Youtube The Poster's Wrong, and Medicated. Joe Matarese didn’t just swing through and riff with us — he was in full-on “fixing people” mode. We got deep into some great psychology of each of our pasts, our families, and our minds. It doesn’t get weepy or too serious, it’s just a damn good time and a great listen. Thanks again, Joe! Awesome guy. Also, check out his podcast “Fixing Joe”.
Joe wants to stop teaching comedy school. Is the comedy industry looking at Joe as washed up now that he's a teacher? Can he support his family without the added income from comedy school? Joe examines all side of quitting teaching comedy with comedian Paul Virzi, and his special guest Last Comic Standing champion comedian Josh Blue.
Joe is back from a week long cruise with his dad where he performed 16 shows and shared a really tiny room. This cruise was intended to be a bonding trip for father and son. Was it? Listen in as comedian Paul Virzi trys to help Joe along with special guest comedian from the Chappelle Show Charlie Murphy.
Joe is going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise with his father this week. Will they hit bad weather? How many Xanax tablets will Joe take? Will he learn to be a better man this week? Will they become even closer after this trip? Judah "World Champion" Friedlander helps Joe in so many ways.
Joe decides that he needs to do a less narcissistic episode! Can Joe only talk to Anthony Jeselnik about him for a full hour? This episode we learn how fast rising Anthony Jeselnik (Donald Trump Roast on Comedy Central, and ex writer for Jimmy Fallon) has made a niche for himself in standup comedy.
Ep 21 Joe talks with comedian Paul Virzi, and comedian Nick Griffin about depression, and about trying to expand his mind. Joe wants to add a news segment to the podcast because he knows it's the only way he'll become more curious about things going on in the world, entertainment, technology, and other news worthy subjects. Joe is even ready to add a new book to his life every month. Can he do it? What will his guests think of these changes? Joe also discusses comedy with Letterman regular Nick Griffin.
This episode of Fixing Joe was recorded from the green room of Gotham Comedy Club in NYC where Joe was opening for Jay Mohr. Joe had been hired by Jay to open for him at 3 different venues in 7 days and they've seem to have bonded. This episode is all about confidence which Jay seems to have a ton of and Joe only has it at times. Can Jay Mohr motivate Joe and change is lack of complete commitment to things? We find out Joe's career goal and Jay tells him what he must do to get it! You'll hear a side of Jay Mohr that you'll find very revealing and very inspiring.

Agent and comedian Johnny Lampert, and cohost Danny Lobell try and sort it all out and get Brad and Joe back to being possible friends again. Joe and Yaniss Pappis discuss therapy, anxiety, and what they like about each others comedy.
Joe's in LA for Episode 18 of Fixing Joe doing a Chelsea Lately taping. He has a special round table discussion getting some perspective on what some old NY friends that are out there really think of him. Joe's also struggling with a very good paying kid for a week in Israel that he's afraid to take. His guest's are Family Guy and Cleveland show actor writer and producer John Veiner, and comedians Josh Haness, Paul Virzi, and Thomas Dale.
Joe's one man show is playing in NY LA and Hartford. Time to study! Joe is having problems memorizing his lines and seeks the guidance of Michael Barkann Of Phillidelphia's Daily News Live.
Which Antidepressant will Joe take? He has 5 to choose from, and his wife is very inspired to help him find the right drug and right psychiatrist! Joe's guest for episode 16 is motivational speaker, restauranteur, and writer of the book Rhino Living, Dave Magrogan. Also sitting in to observe Fixing Joe is Yale freshman Ryan Cavataro.
Sitting in the Danny Lobell chair comedian Paul Virzi joins Joe. On Friday night Joe ate a lot during his evening while performing around NYC. He then woke up at 4:30 am with an acid reflux attack and the worst anxiety attack of his adult life. Does he need prozac? Is this the the last straw? Helping Joe from 98 Rock in Baltimore comedian and radio personality Mickey Cuchiella. Joe also tributes the loss of comedian friend Mike Destefano. Calling in to also tribute Mike D was owner of Cringe Humor Patrick Milligan.
Joe is disconnected! Is it because all the snow melted this week and he can see his neighbors awful house perfectly now? Is it because his roof isn't up to par, his refrigerator is broken, his windshield cracked, and his sink and toilet are leaking? Or is that just Joe? His guest Comedian Rich Vos, and filling the Danny Lobell chair this week comedian and new friend, Paul Virzi.
Joe is able to be in the moment with his anger on stage, but not when he is crossed in his daily life. His new roof got ruined in the recent wind storm, his comedy school was put down on Jim Breuer's podcast, and his neighbor was saying racist comments while giving his roof quote, and Joe didn't voice his true opinions in the moment. Joe guest's: writer and producer from The Family Guy Alec Sulkin, and Joe's Mom.
Joe is crazy busy and his brain is completely overloaded! He's trying to do so many things before he leaves for LA to work on a show idea with Todd Glass and tape an episode of Chelsea Lately. Can he nail them both with so many things on his mind? His guest ex pro baseball player and now sports anaylst Mitch "The Wild Thing" Williams, and host of Standup With Pete Dominck on Sirius XM and a regular on CNN's John King USA Pete Dominick.
Joe returns from performing in Boston at Mottleys Comedy club and is feeling really great. So great Joe feels he doesn't really need fixing, he just needs help maintaining his happiness. He's hoping his guest Ray Combs JR, son of ex Family Feud host, and close friend of Joe can help. Joe and Ray have a long history dating back 8 years to San Diego, CA where Joe and Ray once lived. A lot of old issues these too friends had come to the surface, and get a little ugly at times, in this very candid interview.
Episode 10 Joe's pursuit of happiness. After watching Oprah last week witch was all about happiness, Joe is thinking about moving back to LA. He hated living there when he was a single guy, but now that he has a family LA could be the answer? Joe's guest's: Comedians Todd Glass, and Moody McCarthy.
This weeks episode was about how often Joe returns things! Basically everything Joe purchases he will return. He also questions his look all the way down to his hair length and beard. Can talking with guest comedian Joe Derosa or Tom Comers man on the street interviews help Joe?
Suburbs or the city? Joe misses the comedian friends he had in NYC and the guys he grew up with in Cherry Hill, NJ. Is that what growing up is all about? Why does the wife decide where we raise the family? Joe's guests, comedian Ted Alexandro, Tom Comer, and Joe's Dad.
Joe loses his cool while watching the Eagles vs. Giants game. Guess we can't call him Joe Cool no' mo'! Cursing at the TV sets off Joe's wife. Hey, he's only heckling the TV! It's what he does! Does cursing at the screen during a game you love make Joe a bad father or a really cool dad? According to Joe's brother, he's just like their dad. Comedian Kyle Grooms said his grandfather taught him to be a man. Oddly enough, Kyle gave both Joe and Barack Obama some valuable advice. Also weighing in is comedian Scott Papacuri, who tries to make sense of this outburst. Hopefully the Eagles don't screw up this season. Joe's sanity is on the line.
Looks like Joe is back to his normal nervous self. Joe's anxiety about flying, being on a cruise ship, and going to comedian Christmas parties is off the charts this week. Mama Matarese calls in to talk about rushing Joe to the pediatrician after his first pot-induced anxiety attack at a wee young age. She suggested a little Rocky 2 therapy for Joe on cruise ship gigs (cue that corny theme, picture Joe running up the Philadelphia Museum's stairs and conquering his anxieties, oh forget it). Comedian Jesse Joyce joined Joe in the studio for this episode. Can advice from his fellow comedian and a little motherly love fix Joe's latest fears? Find out by tuning in.
This week, Joe is still struggling. It's a constant struggle with this guy! But at least Joe isn't so much of a Debbie Downer today. Or a Negative Nancy for that matter. The big questions for this episode are: How much money is too much money to invest in his career? Should Joe hire a personal assistant? Is there a place Joe can hire a nerd squad to take his career to that next level? Would this make family life more enjoyable? Is this blog Socratic or what? Joe's guest for episode five are psychologist Dr. Matt Bellace and Comedian Lee Camp.
Career and family, a balancing act as old as civilization. Where does one start and the other begin? Does the traveling comedian have time for both? Could a 2nd child hold union together or tear it apart? And WHERE THE FUCK is Marc Maron? It's all good, we got a last minute replacement plus a few lbs as a kicker. Ralphie May was nice enough to donate his morning to the show, complete with his own screaming child background music. May is a father of 2 himself and talks about how it affects his and wife's respective careers. Let's just say that making some dough through said career helps the family life thus presenting a comedic catch 22. Seriously life, what the fuck?
Joe Matarese sits down with Comedian/actor Marc Unger (The show Friends), Comedian Juston Mckinney (The Tonight Show, CCP, and 1 hour special on Comedy Central), and writer for the Family Guy John Veiner.
Get out the nuts and bolts because we have another installment of Fixing Joe, with Joe Matarese and Chris Iacono sitting in for Danny Lobell. The burning issue this week; Should Joe continue with therapy? Moreover, is the Fixing Joe show providing more therapeutic benefit than his actual therapy? After taking the invaluable advice of funnyman and heckler-hunter, Bill Burr, Joe has learned to love performing again. He's gained confidence and, most importantly, hasn't been so darn angry. Has this radio gig rendered a psychiatric professional obsolete? Or are his sessions truly worth the horrendous commute? The guests weighing in on the subject are MadTV mistress Arden Myrin and comedian and surviving Jim Norton cohabitant, Jim Florentine. Lie back on your favorite couch (preferably not in your therapists office) and listen to find out Joe's decision!
Commuting into New York City, doesn’t make Joe’s depression any better, neither does getting fired from his job. Which brings us to Joe’s real issue of the week, getting cut from his gig at City Steam in Hartford, CT. After a few nights of fighting off a drunk bachelorette party, guidos and a few hecklers, Joe thought he was on top of his game, screaming at the audience making some great material until his mic got shut off. Thats when things got serious and now Joe needs your help. Joe doesn’t know why he is being punished for having evil hecklers, that he could successfully fend off. Calling in to lend some advice were Gary Goldman and Bill Burr. It turns out they have a lot of heckler experience. Some lessons learned were that it can be best to spit in the face of evil, bachelorette parties will play victim, some audience members are helpful and some are just always going to be miserable. The question still stands though who was wrong Joe or the club?
