We'll also be punishing our friend, Jon Proctor, as he will have to consume a Philly Cheesesteak Milkshake for losing our Women's Basketball Bracket Challenge, which means Glenn and Griffin will be facing off in a ‘Proctor Quiz' too. At 10:35am, we're going to talk some basketball when we catch up with Maryland Basketball incoming freshman Darius Adams, talk about why he wanted to be a Terp and play for Coach Buzz Williams after decommitting from UConn. At 11:20am, we will talk lacrosse in our weekly chat with Patrick Stevens as we talk Maryland, Towson lacrosse and get his thoughts on each of their first round matchups and the NCAA Tournament. At 11:45am, we're going to catch up with one of our favorites, Comedian Aries Spears, before you can see him this weekend out at Magooby's!

Linda Belt, is a New Jersey native (a comedy routine in itself). She moved to CT in 1987 where she became a suburban pillar of the community attending PTO meetings and baseball games. Linda became very tired holding up that pillar and instead holds her own as a professional stand up comic. Her humor touches on the absurdities of modern life and explores marriage, sex, parenting and social mores, in other words: any subject she feels like discussing! Linda has performed throughout the US and Canada and has been featured in a number of comedy festivals, including the Hogtown Comedy Festival (Toronto) the Detroit Comedy Festival, the Long Island Comedy Festival, The Women in Comedy Festival (Boston), Laugh Your Asheville Off, Asheville, NC and the Boston Comedy Festival. We also discuss the current state of Comedy as a whole. We even talk about our most famous celebrity encounters and even discuss our favorite 90s movies. 

Chewing gum, homophobia and fetal alcohol syndrome: How does it all tie together? At first glance, Beth’s jokes seem to touch on very different topics, but she and Dan sense that they are all tied together somehow by the underlying persona Beth is bringing to the stage. Beth is relatively new to the world of stand-up comedy but has already established herself a bit in the local scene, even winning a competition at Magooby’s Joke House. She and Dan discuss the differences in their starting points, and then Dan tries to get his head around a strange bit that Beth has been trying involving mayonnaise. Dan talks about jokes that his dad wrote for him, and Beth talks about an upcoming cereal podcast. Beth’s jokes get into pretty dark territory, touching on topics like abortion and fetal alcohol syndrome, and Dan comments on the difficulty of getting a laugh from an audience on a topic like this unless the punchline can really deliver. There is something really funny here though, and it comes up again when Beth talks about people who see gum-chewing as a vice, or people who expressed concern to Beth’s parents because they thought she might be gay. She and Dan explore the idea of a person who is coming away from a conservative upbringing, but still trying to engage with it, albeit in a really funny way.

Turns out he did tell Johnny Ringo he was a huckleberry when he tried to step in for Wyatt Earp in a showdown. Val Kilmer's performance may have been much more accurate than I ever realized. John Henry Holiday, better known as Doc Holliday, was a Wild Western anomaly. He was a gambler, drunk, a gunslinger, possibly even a thief - BUT - he was also an educated Southern dentist raised by well-to-do plantation owners. He was a complicated and fascinating man who we only know through the descriptions of those who knew him, some of whom liked him and admired him and others who despised and reviled him. On this week's show the young whipper snapper, comedian Stavros Halkias, joins Josh and Mike (Finazzo) for an interview in the Dig Sesh HQ.  Comedian Mike Finazzo was nice enough to pinch hit for the injured Mike Moran. Stavros started comedy because he was miserable. He's been doing stand for a few years. And NOW he's a little less miserable! We kid! He's doing quite well for a young comedian on the grind. Stavros recently won the Magooby's New Talent Contest and is earning his stripes and the respect of other comedians by performing all over the Baltimore and D.C. area several times a week. Stavros also hosts the (seb) Comedy Hour - a monthly comedy show at UMBC. Past Digression Sessions guest - Hampton Yount - will be the headliner at the next show on May 10. There's a decent amount of “inside baseball talk” about the art of stand up in this ep, but it's a good one – especially if you're thinking about getting into stand up.
