The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. 1 Kings 17:4-6 God's Delivery Service In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Birds are pretty good at finding food. They peck in the grass. They look for crumbs. They raid your beach picnic (we're looking at you, seagulls!). They search in trees and bushes. But in today's Bible reading, you probably noticed that the birds weren't finding food for themselves. They were working for God's delivery service! God used ravens to deliver food to Elijah. Sounds pretty strange, right? Elijah was a prophet who spoke God's Word during the reign of a wicked king named Ahab. Ahab didn't love the one true God and led many people away from the Lord. So, God sent Elijah with a message to show Ahab how serious his sin was: there would be no rain for a long time. No rain meant dry ground; dry ground meant no crops; no crops meant people wouldn't have enough food. Many people and animals could starve to death! But God didn't forget about Elijah. He told his prophet to go to a special place near a brook, where clean, cool water would flow for Elijah to drink. God would even send ravens to bring food for Elijah! So, Elijah went, and God kept his promise. Every morning and evening, ravens came with bread and meat. Day after day, Elijah had what he needed. God's care looked strange . . . it came through birds! But it was still God's care. God still provides for us today. And he provides for us in ways you have come to expect: grocery stores, parents, friends, a teacher, a neighbor . . . so many different ways. But, at other times, God provides for us in ways we never saw coming. This is what makes God's people different, though, just like Elijah was different from Ahab. Christians don't always know how God will provide or when he will provide. But we do know this: God will provide! God cared for Elijah near the brook. God cares for you, too. And if you ever need proof of that, remember that God provided his own Son, Jesus, as the sacrifice needed to pay for our sins. Through Jesus, God gives you what you need. Through Jesus, God gives forgiveness, life, and a home with him forever. The God who sent birds with bread has not forgotten what his children need. And he knows why you need it. And he promises that he will always provide. Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for giving us what we need each day. Help us trust your care, even when we do not yet see how you will provide. Amen. High Country News recently reported on how residents within the city limits of White Salmon, Wash. have lacked free mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service for years now. The agency also does not provide free Post Office Boxes for those residents. High Country News’ reporting also revealed that at least 10 other towns in Washington, Oregon and Idaho also lack both free home mail delivery and free P.O. Boxes provided by the USPS. Meanwhile, White Salmon Mayor Marla Keethler has been trying to no avail since 2020 to work with the agency to create a new mail delivery route or provide free P.O. boxes.    Susan Shain is a freelance journalist based in White Salmon. So who or what is the "monster" in this title? It's whoever you want it to be, be it the former head of Kadokawa trying to sue his way back into relevancy or the people wanting to hunt down Denji in the new Chainsaw Man arc (coming... in three years, probably), or the head of MAPPA for his continued misdeeds, or the former Crunchyroll marketing executive slithering his way back to work with SNK, or even the promise of Monster coming to Blu-ray in August. Or even Crunchyroll for their failure in promoting anything from Given, there are a lot of monsters out there. It's all up to you to decide, really. Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), highlighting a perceived decade of “executive fumbling.” This includes an inconsistent rebranding of the current ruleset, which the community has largely settled on calling 5.5e (the D&D 2024 ruleset), moving away from the “OneD&D” working title. WotC also announced a “live service” style content roadmap for D&D in 2026, divided into three “Seasons”: Horror (starting June, anchored by Ravenloft: The Horrors Within), Magic (starting July, featuring Arcana Unleashed), and the mysterious Season of Champions (starting October). Orken is a new transmedia universe from the IP design studio SIXMOREVODKA, creators of Degenesis. Unlike their previous work, Orken is not a tabletop game but a lore-driven fantasy suite expressed through art books and serialized fiction. The project explores the central conflict of the native, totemic Orken people of Edom fighting for survival against the technologically advanced invaders known as the Elemon (or “People of Metal”). The Kickstarter campaign for this project successfully funded its initial goal very quickly, focusing on providing immediate, finished, premium products to supporters. Pumpkin Spice is a “magical cozy RPG” The game centers on a young coven of witches who run a magical cafe and protect a “Fount of Magic,” drawing inspiration from works like Kiki's Delivery Service and Legends & Lattes. It utilizes a simple, narrative-first system with standard six-sided dice and “Essence Dice,” with mechanics revolving around brewing magical drinks and interacting with patrons, rather than combat. The campaign’s immense success led to the unlocking of several stretch goals, including a fully dedicated solo-play mode and expansions to the spellcasting system. Renegade Game Studios will publish the Exodus Roleplaying Game in 2026. This sci-fi TTRPG is based on the upcoming Exodus video game developed by Wizards of the Coast’s Archetype Entertainment. The RPG was developed by James Ohlen (former lead designer for Baldur’s Gate) and notably uses 5E as its underlying engine. The initial releases from Renegade are scheduled for August and will include the Exodus Traveler’s Handbook and the Creature Catalog. The FBI is warning folks to watch out for charity and disaster-relief fraud, which always seems to spike after major disasters or crises. These scammers? They’re sneaky. They’ll pose as legit charities, relief workers, or even government agencies, using emails, fake websites, crowdfunding pages, or social media to tug at your heartstrings—and your wallet. Sometimes they’ll even offer cleanup services, demand payment upfront, and then vanish. The FBI’s advice? Double-check charities before donating, skip sketchy links, and stick to secure payments (no gift cards or wire transfers). Stay sharp out there. STORY 3: Walmart launches drone delivery service in Woodstock  Residents near the Woodstock Walmart on Highway 92 can now have small packages delivered by drone—yes, drones. Walmart and Wing, the drone company behind the service, kicked things off Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the first official delivery. Woodstock is one of six metro Atlanta cities chosen for the launch, alongside Conyers, Dallas, Hiram, Loganville, and McDonough. The drones, fully electric and weighing about 11 pounds, can carry up to two pounds of goods and fly six miles one way. Make sure the county sticks to the approved project list and spends the money responsibly. They can give advice and updates but can’t change the project list. STORY 5: Turn lane coming to Lakeside Drive at Holly Springs Parkway  Changes are on the way for the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Holly Springs Parkway, right where new apartments and townhomes are going up. On Oct. 21, Cherokee County commissioners gave the green light for Calco Engineering to start designing improvements for the intersection. The project, tied to a 2021 rezoning deal with Quintus Development, includes a right-turn lane from Lakeside onto Holly Springs Parkway. As part of that deal, the developer chipped in $200,000 toward the lane’s construction. Now, with $42,000 approved for design work, plans are moving forward. A conceptual design will be reviewed before detailed plans are finalized.
