zAmazon drone delivery UK trials have finally become reality and, honestly, it feels exactly like Britain would make the future feel: slightly exciting, faintly ridiculous, and only a few minutes away from being shouted at by somebody in slippers holding a mug of tea. In this episode of Mark and Pete, we look at Amazon's first proper drone package deliveries in Britain, what they mean for technology, convenience culture, automation, and why the sight of a flying robot lowering loo roll into a suburban front garden somehow feels both futuristic and deeply, deeply British. The discussion ranges from the practical side of drone deliveries, including Amazon Prime Air, autonomous logistics, delivery technology, and the future of online shopping, through to the bigger cultural questions underneath it all. Because this isn't really just about parcels, is it? It's about a civilisation increasingly trying to remove friction from life entirely. Faster deliveries. Fewer humans. Less waiting. Less talking. Just algorithms, tracking notifications, and airborne electronics humming gently over semi-detached houses while seagulls assess the tactical possibilities.Pete and Mark also discuss:Amazon's long-running drone programmewhether delivery drivers eventually get replacedBritish reactions to new technologythe collapse of patience in modern lifeonline shopping cultureconvenience as a kind of modern religionand why Britain always manages to make the future look oddly suburbanThere's also biblical reflection from Proverbs on human desire and the simple fact that technology can solve practical problems without ever curing the deeper restlessness underneath modern life. People once waited weeks for goods arriving by ship. Now somebody gets annoyed if batteries take until Tuesday.Along the way there's the usual gently sardonic commentary, cultural observations, and the strange realisation that cyberpunk Britain apparently involves wheelie bins, pigeons, hanging baskets, and drones delivering dishwasher tablets to people named Gary.Thoughtful, funny, slightly melancholy in places. Like the future itself, really, only with better tea.

Wellness Podcast

In this follow-up episode to my episode #50 from 5 years ago, I discuss the necessity of slowing down from time to time. This week, I was forced to slow down, because as I've said many times on this podcast, since I didn't slow myself down, my body did for me- by getting me sick! I give examples from media, including Parks and Rec (a TV show from the early 2000's) and Kiki's Delivery Service (an old Hayao Miyazaki movie from the 80's) and from my own life, of my kid learning to tie his shoes after going to sleep one night, about the necessity of just slowing it down sometimes. In all these cases, slowing down/stopping what they were trying to do led them to 1) be more productive (in the case of Leslie Knope) and come up with 10,000 ideas, 2) learn to tie his shoes (in the case of my son) overnight while sleeping and 3) re-teach herself how to literally fly (on a broom) for Kiki the witch in Kiki's Delivery Service! Action item: in whatever big or small way you can, give yourself a rest this week. Read a book and drink a cup of tea for 15 minutes, listen to a song and dance in your kitchen, take a sick day or a week off (if you have spring break) or just go to bed early and don't get that last work thing or those dishes washed one time. Whatever you have the capacity to do, big or small, will help you to remember that this, right now, is your life. Don't let it pass you by! See you all back here in 2 weeks after I take a short break as well!

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), highlighting a perceived decade of “executive fumbling.” This includes an inconsistent rebranding of the current ruleset, which the community has largely settled on calling 5.5e (the D&D 2024 ruleset), moving away from the “OneD&D” working title. WotC also announced a “live service” style content roadmap for D&D in 2026, divided into three “Seasons”: Horror (starting June, anchored by Ravenloft: The Horrors Within), Magic (starting July, featuring Arcana Unleashed), and the mysterious Season of Champions (starting October). Orken is a new transmedia universe from the IP design studio SIXMOREVODKA, creators of Degenesis. Unlike their previous work, Orken is not a tabletop game but a lore-driven fantasy suite expressed through art books and serialized fiction. The project explores the central conflict of the native, totemic Orken people of Edom fighting for survival against the technologically advanced invaders known as the Elemon (or “People of Metal”). The Kickstarter campaign for this project successfully funded its initial goal very quickly, focusing on providing immediate, finished, premium products to supporters. Pumpkin Spice is a “magical cozy RPG” The game centers on a young coven of witches who run a magical cafe and protect a “Fount of Magic,” drawing inspiration from works like Kiki's Delivery Service and Legends & Lattes. It utilizes a simple, narrative-first system with standard six-sided dice and “Essence Dice,” with mechanics revolving around brewing magical drinks and interacting with patrons, rather than combat. The campaign’s immense success led to the unlocking of several stretch goals, including a fully dedicated solo-play mode and expansions to the spellcasting system. Renegade Game Studios will publish the Exodus Roleplaying Game in 2026. This sci-fi TTRPG is based on the upcoming Exodus video game developed by Wizards of the Coast’s Archetype Entertainment. The RPG was developed by James Ohlen (former lead designer for Baldur’s Gate) and notably uses 5E as its underlying engine. The initial releases from Renegade are scheduled for August and will include the Exodus Traveler’s Handbook and the Creature Catalog. This move is considered notable as WotC is collaborating with an outside company for the game’s wider release, suggesting a broader distribution strategy. #dnd5.5E #OrkenRpg #PumpkinSpiceRpg #ExodusRPG #RenegadeStudios Orken RPG on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sixmorevodka/orken Pumpkin Spice RPG: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/acheron-games/pumpkin-spice-a-magically-cozy-rpg Dragonbane Trudvang: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/dragonbane-trudvang-the-legend-returns Fallout MEGA Bundle: https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/L0aArV Warmachine on MyMiniFactory: https://mmf.io/upturned Mantic Companion App: https://companion.manticgames.com/ Use our Referral code: MCTXEE Support us by Shopping at Miniature Market (afilliate link): https://miniature-market.sjv.io/K0yj7n Support Us by Shopping on DTRPG (afilliate link): https://www.drivethrurpg.com?affiliate_id=2081746 Matt’s DriveThruRPG Publications: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matthew%20Robinson https://substack.com/@matthewrobinson3 Chris on social media: https://hyvemynd.itch.io/ Jeremy's Links: http://www.abusecartoons.com/ http://www.rcharvey.com Support Us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/upturnedtable Give us a tip on our livestream: https://streamlabs.com/upturnedtabletop/tip Donate or give us a tip on Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/2754JZFW2QZU4 Intro song is “Chips” by KokoroNoMe https://kokoronome.bandcamp.com/

Send a textA thirteen‑year‑old witch, a borrowed broom, and a city that doesn't owe you anything—that's the quiet magic that makes Kiki's Delivery Service unforgettable. We dive into why this story still hits hard: the sweetness of small kindnesses, the sting of indifference, and the way work can both drain you and define you. From the bakery's warm light to the wind over red rooftops, we trace how Miyazaki builds a world that feels lived‑in without overexplaining its rules, letting emotion and texture do the heavy lifting. We compare first impressions, highlight the European inspirations behind the seaside city, and talk about how Osono's simple act of hospitality becomes the turning point for Kiki's sense of belonging. Then we tackle the big question: why does Gigi stop talking? We explore it as both a magical bond loosening and a metaphor for leaving childhood behind, and how that silence reframes Kiki's isolation and resilience. The blimp set piece gets a close read too—why the battered street broom matters, how action restores purpose, and what it says about skill versus heart.Along the way, we have fun with dubs and voice casting, swap Disney pin‑trading lore, and debate Tombow's friend group in a world suddenly obsessed with flight. If you love Studio Ghibli, coming‑of‑age stories, or just want to feel the wind in your face for an hour, this one's for you. Hit play, then tell us your take: is Kiki Miyazaki's most rewatchable film, and what do you think really happened to Gigi's voice? It's Not My Fault The OASG Podcast Is Not Popular!

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 3, 2026 80:50

Show Notes 0:00: Justin and Helen finally are able to talk about things they’ve been up to!…Well, Justin’s been up to finally watching the new season of Medalist now that it’s on Hulu and experienced paying to go to a theater for the first time since COVID-19 (all for Uma Musume: Beginning of a New Era). Helen on the other hand has finally watched Journal with Witch (2 episodes so far) like the rest of the cool people! The hosts then get ready to talk about the news over the past few weeks. And it begins with one of the worst anime/manga news that’s ever been covered on this podcast. News 6:13: Shogakukan’s Manga ONE editorial department issued a statement and an apology this past Friday regarding manga creator Shōichi Yamamoto, after the editorial department had allowed Yamamoto to publish a new manga on the service under a pen name after he had been arrested and convicted of a sex crime. The details are not only many but it also can be triggering. It’s fairly staggering, so you’ll want to check out Anime News Network and Strict Algorithm for all the details, but a quick summary: Shoichi Yamamoto returned as a writer for Joujin Kamen, with Eri Tsuruyoshi drawing the series in 2022, despite his arrest and conviction of a sex crime in 2020 and making sure the artist was not aware of Yamamoto’s past since he is now known as Hajime Ichiro. An editor for MangaOne was involved in this situation, even going so far as to try and strike a deal with the victim. Once details emerged this past Friday of how awful the crime was and that the publication covered it up, many manga artists — from those working for Shogakukan to those not working for them — were angry and for those working for Shogakukan demanded not only a proper response but to have their works removed from MangaOne. Then Saturday, Shogakukan announced they will set up an investigative committee that will include lawyers to clarify the facts of the situation. Both hosts discuss this horrifying scandal as they know it and what this ultimately says about Shogakukan (21:10) — and as Justin expected (26:48), more news would eventually emerge over time after the episode was recorded on Sunday, and yesterday, while continuing their internal investigation of MangaOne, Shogakukan revealed that Tatsuya Matsuki, the writer for act-age who was convinced of a sex crime in 2020 and dismissed from Shonen Jump with the cancellation of that manga, was hiding under the pen name of Miki Yatsunami while working on a manga on the service (Seisō no Shinri-shi). We at TheOASG send our apologies to the victim, Eri Tsuruyoshi, and those affected by this situation. 26:57: Media Do, considered the largest e-book distributor in Japan (and sold off their shares of MyAnimeList last year) has acquired Seven Seas Entertainment for US $80 million dollars. More details emerged since the two hosts talked about it on Sunday, and it was concerning to where Seven Seas had to put out a statement yesterday. Expect both hosts to again discuss more about this partnership in the next episode. 33:29: The two hosts discuss the “Ring Ring Live in Osaka” concert event put on by the Himitsu no AiPri staff was cancelled due to threats; Helen goes over Sho-Pro Books (Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions) announcing that its contract to publish Marvel Comics titles in Japanese will end on March 31; and Manga Mavericks Books now has a distribution deal with Pathway Book Service and with Gazelle Book Services Ltd for Europe so we’ll be able to see their print books on certain retailers soon. 39:27: The Gift-o’-Animation studio’s founder and former president Satoshi Mori passed way February 20 after battling an illness for some time; Talent agency Haikyō announced in February that voice actor Masaru Ikeda died on January 31; And Kodansha shared on their Instagram that Vertical publishing company’s co-founder and Kodansha USA Editorial Director Ioannis Mentzas passed away a few weeks ago. Licenses 41:55: Last episode the hosts talked about a bunch of companies licensing manga. MediaOCD also announced the new round of titles it is adding to its store as part of the Discotek Deep Dives initiative (a good amount); meanwhile Discotek has a couple re-releases upcoming this year and a Patlabor OVA coming at some point; And finally, Sentai Filmworks has licensed Heavy Metal L-Gaim, which continues Sentai just out of nowhere licensing an older work. Streaming News 1:00:02: The Madoka Magica movie has a new release date, and you can hear the two hosts editorial thought process in this moment as they decide no matter what happens — if it screens in Japan or if it doesn’t — it will wind up in weird news somehow; Akane-Banashi will have people be able to see it, but at this moment, not on your typical anime services…which will be shocking for a Shonen Jump property. 1:02:59: We have some screenings going on in the US — Anime Central will screen the original anime Goodbye, Lara in May; Next week people will be able to watch a 4K restoration of Kiki’s Delivery Service; and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 will also see another screening, which leads Justin to wonder when he’ll watch it since Crunchyroll doesn’t want to stream it yet! 1:04:51: The Me and Robico film has been added to Crunchyroll; Hulu and Disney+ will stream the Rooster Fighter anime in a few weeks (will first debut on Toonami); and Hulu now has the HD versions of the Pretty Cure English dub on their service. 1:05:58: The Criterion Collection’s streaming service Criterion Channel announced will add Gunbuster: The Movie and the first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex sometime in March; Hideaki Sorachi’s debut one-shot manga Dandelion is getting an anime series adaptation that will stream exclusively on Netflix starting in April; and that 18+ site Oceanveil (who also sometimes streams non-18+ anime) will stream in advance the English-subtitled first episode of Do You Like Big Girls? and Marika’s Love Meter Malfunction. Weird News 1:08:23: Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary is this year, and there’s lots of things going on with the franchise…starting with the original voice of Ash Ketchum (Satoshi in Japan) doing a Let’s Play in celebration and, well, the franchise sharing their 30th Anniversary logos. All 1,025 of them! 1:10:07: Let’s just say the highs and lows of Japan are covered in this section, from a very shirtless buff man as a hanger to an AI buddharoid. 1:12:34: Two of Japan’s famous properties — Crayon Shin-chan and Sazae-san — are gonna cross over; We got a story involving recent gold medalist and Olympic star Alysa Liu and how she has a Pochita! 1:15:41: And finally, apparently Amazon really wants to be a big player in the anime destination game, which we would take seriously except there’s no real sign that they’re actually serious about it at the moment! New York Times best-selling author Don Martin joins me on the podcast for a wonderful episode full of laughs, learning, and beautiful words. We kick things off by talking about his podcast, Head on Fire. Don talks about how and why he started it, and what you can expect to find by listening or watching his episodes. He interviews experts in overlooked fields, searching for answers to life's biggest and smallest questions. From there, we talk about some of his early fandom influences. From the X-Men, to a focus on the Animorphs series by Katherine Applegate. We discuss how his time spent with family in West Virginia and the history and stories that come out of Appalachia formed the foundations for his future work. Don then talks about how he started writing poetry when he was 10-12.  Under the guidance of his uncle as his poetry & writing mentor, Don continued to develop and hone his craft. If you haven't found a poet you like, Don says you just haven't found the right one and recommends a number of poets and poetry to read. Link are at the end of the show notes. Then we talk about Don's novel, Verity Vox and The Curse of Foxfire. As mentioned previously, Don talks about how the idea for the novel started with a real town and story in West Virginia. From there, Verity Vox can be described as Kiki's Delivery Service meets Old Gods of Appalachia. We talk spoiler free about the book, and Don talks about how he infused the book's town and characters with his personal history with West Virginia and the family that resides there. We also talk about what's coming next for his work, and some projects that we hinted at are out now, including Hexes and Heroes. From Dec. 3 to 7, the new location will support Every Link Matters, a nonprofit helping kids with KBG Syndrome. Got one of their special fundraising coupons? Donate at least $3, and you’ll snag a regular sub in return. No coupon, no deal—so keep an eye out for those flyers. “We’re so excited to join the Woodstock community,” said franchise owner Diego Rangel. “Giving back is who we are. Partnering with Every Link Matters lets us make a real difference—one sub at a time.” Hungry? You can order in-store, online, or through the Jersey Mike’s app. Delivery and curbside pickup are also options. The shop will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more info, visit jerseymikes.com or call 470-523-8055. Looking for a job? Email nico@rangelcompanies.com. STORY 2: FBI warns about rise in charity and disaster-relief fraud as holiday season ramps up The holidays are here, and so are the scammers—because, of course, they are. The FBI is warning folks to watch out for charity and disaster-relief fraud, which always seems to spike after major disasters or crises. These scammers? They’re sneaky. They’ll pose as legit charities, relief workers, or even government agencies, using emails, fake websites, crowdfunding pages, or social media to tug at your heartstrings—and your wallet. Sometimes they’ll even offer cleanup services, demand payment upfront, and then vanish. The FBI’s advice? Double-check charities before donating, skip sketchy links, and stick to secure payments (no gift cards or wire transfers). Stay sharp out there. STORY 3: Walmart launches drone delivery service in Woodstock  Residents near the Woodstock Walmart on Highway 92 can now have small packages delivered by drone—yes, drones. Walmart and Wing, the drone company behind the service, kicked things off Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the first official delivery. Woodstock is one of six metro Atlanta cities chosen for the launch, alongside Conyers, Dallas, Hiram, Loganville, and McDonough. The drones, fully electric and weighing about 11 pounds, can carry up to two pounds of goods and fly six miles one way. They operate quietly at low altitudes, dropping packages to designated spots like driveways or backyards. Here is what Senator John Albers had to say about these new delivery drones. JOHN ALBERS CUT To see if you’re eligible, visit wing.com/atlanta. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info.    We’ll be right back. Break: Ingles Markets 6 STORY 4: Wolverines perfect through five games Woodstock basketball is on fire. Under third-year coach Eric Blair, the Wolverines are off to a perfect 5-0 start—already their best in nearly a decade. They crushed Roswell 58-34 before Thanksgiving, thanks to sophomore phenom Jahmar Maurice dropping 21 points. The team’s averaging 70.4 points per game, a huge leap from last year’s 57.7. They’ve blown out opponents like Blessed Trinity (by 30!) and edged out a nail-biter against Chapel Hill. With region play kicking off today against Creekview, the Wolverines are eyeing a championship. They swept the Grizzlies last year, and a win this week would be a big step toward that goal. For now, though, this team is rolling—and it’s hard not to get excited about what’s ahead. GA BULLDOGS: Georgia lost five-star quarterback Jared Curtis to Vanderbilt just before National Signing Day, dropping their recruiting class to No. 6. Despite the hit, the Bulldogs signed 30 players, including one five-star, defensive lineman Valdin Sone, and 22 four-stars. Key signees include local standout Craig Dandridge Jr., three top tight ends like Kaiden Prothro, and Colquitt County running back Jae Lamar. Defense was a focus, with edge rushers Pierre Dean and Khamari Brooks, plus safeties Jordan Smith and Zech Fort. Gwinnett County contributed five players, including Carter Luckie, continuing his family’s Georgia legacy. Coach Kirby Smart’s class remains strong despite the late shakeup. I’m Keith Ippolito and this is your Tribune Sports Minute. STORY 5: Cherokee County to form T-SPLOST citizen committee Cherokee County is forming a five-member citizen committee to keep an eye on how the county spends the $445 million expected from the new T-SPLOST, which kicks off April 1 and runs for six years. The Board of Commissioners approved the plan on Dec. 2, and each commissioner will appoint one member to the group. Their job? Make sure the county sticks to the approved project list and spends the money responsibly. They can give advice and updates but can’t change the project list. The committee, unpaid and open to the public, will hold its first meeting in early 2026. Chris reveals the shocking stat: Despite owning Whole Foods and having Amazon's infrastructure, Amazon's grocery share is still only 4%. He sees this as a defensive move more than offensive strategy. Anne questions the economics. Food pantries in Cherokee County are bracing for the surge. MUST Ministries is already feeling the strain. They’re ramping up efforts with mobile pantries, fresh food distributions, and toy shop registrations already spiking. Donations? Desperately needed. Encompass Ministries is rolling out weekly food boxes and bread tables, while Never Alone Food Pantry is building emergency kits and asking for canned meats, diapers, and financial help. Veterans? American Legion Post 45 is opening a pantry for active-duty families, offering free non-perishables. The need is overwhelming, but these organizations are stepping up. Want to help? Visit their websites or donate directly. Every bit counts. STORY 2: Walmart drone delivery service coming to Woodstock Big news for Woodstock: the Walmart on Highway 92 is gearing up to launch drone deliveries—yes, drones. The city announced it’s approved permits for Wing, in partnership with Walmart, to start flying orders straight to customers’ homes. When? No exact date yet, but first, the store needs a “nest” built—a hub for 18 drones to charge, launch, and land. Mayor Michael Caldwell called it a step into the future, saying Woodstock is all about innovation (with safety in mind, of course). So, how does it work? Through the Wing app, you’ll pick your delivery spot—driveway, backyard, wherever—and confirm it’s clear. The drones, fully electric and FAA-regulated, can carry up to 2.5 pounds and fly six miles one way. Groceries, household goods, even over-the-counter meds? All fair game. Alcohol and prescriptions? Not so much. Wing’s already had success in other states like Texas, and now Woodstock’s joining the club. Stay tuned—your next Walmart order might just land in your yard. STORY 3: Pigtails & Crewcuts announces new Woodstock salon owner Pigtails & Crewcuts, the beloved kids’ hair salon, is changing hands in Woodstock and Roswell. Kelly Talal, a local mom and owner of the Marietta West Cobb location, is taking over. For Kelly and her husband, this isn’t just business—it’s personal. “As a parent, I know how stressful haircuts can be,” she said. “But Pigtails & Crewcuts? It turns chaos into fun. The themed chairs, the kind stylists—it’s magic for kids.” With a background in advertising and a knack for building community, Kelly’s ready to lead. Her husband handles the numbers; she handles the heart. The salons, with their bright colors, vehicle chairs, and even birthday party rooms, will keep running as usual—maybe even expand hours down the road. For updates, check out their Facebook page or website. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info.    We’ll be right back. Break: Ingles Markets 10 STORY 4: Cherokee County Football Power Rankings - Week 12  The Cherokee County football power rankings are in, and as Week 12 approaches, there’s plenty to talk about—big wins, tough losses, and everything in between. No. 1 — Sequoyah (8-1, 5-1) The Chiefs? Absolute beasts. Last Friday, they obliterated Pope 70-13, breaking their own scoring record again. QB Kolby Martin was nearly perfect—seven passes, five touchdowns, 169 yards. Oh, and Will Rajecki? Just casually racking up 100+ yards on seven carries. They’re tied for first in Region 6AAAAA and face Creekview next. Buckle up. No. 2 — Creekview (5-4, 5-1) The Grizzlies are rolling. They edged out River Ridge 21-14 last week, locking in a playoff spot. Their only region loss? A nail-biter against Sprayberry. With a bruising run game and a stingy defense, they’re ready for their showdown with Sequoyah. No. 3 — Woodstock (6-3, 4-2) The Wolverines bounced back strong, shutting out Riverwood 23-0 after a tough loss to Sequoyah. Trace Washington was unstoppable—136 yards on 17 carries. Coach Dan Devine has this team playoff-bound for the second year in a row. No. 4 — River Ridge (6-3, 3-3) The Knights are struggling. Two straight losses, and QB Hunter Lockerman’s absence is glaring. The defense, led by Wyatt McCarty and Matthew Burdette, is solid, but the offense needs a spark. They’ll try to end on a high note against Lassiter. No. 5 — Etowah (3-7, 1-5) The Eagles’ season is over, but there’s hope. QB Zeke Douglass and WR Walker Hughes were a dynamic duo, and most of their key players will return in 2026. No. 6 — Cherokee (1-9, 0-6) A rough year for the Warriors, but there’s promise. Freshman QB Zack Parker and lineman Nation Farmer are bright spots. With new facilities coming in 2026, they’re looking to rebuild. STORY 5: Turn lane coming to Lakeside Drive at Holly Springs Parkway  Changes are on the way for the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Holly Springs Parkway, right where new apartments and townhomes are going up. On Oct. 21, Cherokee County commissioners gave the green light for Calco Engineering to start designing improvements for the intersection. The project, tied to a 2021 rezoning deal with Quintus Development, includes a right-turn lane from Lakeside onto Holly Springs Parkway. As part of that deal, the developer chipped in $200,000 toward the lane’s construction. Now, with $42,000 approved for design work, plans are moving forward. Thomas and Frank kick off a running series to assemble a living “Hall of Fame” of 100 movies covered on Challenge Accepted. In this first pass, they lock in the opening 20 picks across adventure, animation, sci-fi, horror, and sports drama. Along the way they talk performance standouts, scenes that shaped their taste, and how future rewatches and listener votes could bump titles up or off the board. Timestamps and Topics 00:03:52 Big Fish and why it still wrecks us in different seasons of life 00:05:07 Hook as 90s Goonies energy and a Robin Williams showcase 00:06:49 Tombstone and the definitive Doc Holliday performance 00:08:13 Raiders of the Lost Ark and the problem of recasting Indy 00:12:52 The Prestige and discovering a top tier Nolan on rewatch 00:14:48 Interstellar nomination and why it grew with repeat viewings 00:17:12 The Shining as prestige horror and a genre pivot point 00:18:23 In Time gets discussed but does not make the cut for now 00:20:00 Across the Spider Verse moves in after a better audio experience 00:22:47 Planes, Trains and Automobiles lands as a comedy essential 00:24:43 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and its surprising emotional weight 00:28:38 Studio Ghibli slot: Spirited Away talk and the case for Kiki's Delivery Service 00:30:24 Dune: Part Two enters as modern epic sci-fi 00:34:38 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and how the evolving list could reshuffle later 00:36:55 The Empire Strikes Back as the Star Wars representative 00:39:11 Jurassic Park and the marriage of practical and digital effects 00:41:02 The Iron Claw and a note on wrestling stories we will cover next 00:42:52 Superman (1978) closes the 20 with an all time origin story 00:48:27 Wrap up, what is coming next, and how listeners can influence the rankings The First 20 (Working List) Big Fish Hook Tombstone Raiders of the Lost Ark The Prestige Interstellar The Shining Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse Planes, Trains and Automobiles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service (Ghibli slot) Dune: Part Two Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 The Empire Strikes Back Jurassic Park The Iron Claw Superman (1978) Plus a few near misses and future candidates Key Takeaways This is a living list. Titles can move as we review more films and as listeners weigh in. Emotional resonance matters as much as craft, from TMNT's farmhouse sequence to Big Fish's generational pull. Genre representatives help keep variety, like Empire for Star Wars and a Ghibli pick for animation. Craft notes: Jurassic Park's blend of practical and digital still sets the bar, and Vol. 3 sparks a James Gunn redemption chat. Community plan: we will combine Frank's rankings, Thomas's rankings, and a listener ballot to shape the master list. Quotes “The little things are the big things.” “He smashed it, dropped the mic, and went to DC.” “If you see a puddle shake, you're waiting for the T-Rex.” Call to Action Enjoying the Hall of Fame project? The story so far: After spending this much time trapped in a small, underground VHS store, we need to find creative ways to choose movies. Sometimes life gets a bit dull and you need to rely on the supernatural to bring you joy, so we summon up a movie and check out another low-budget shot-on-video film, Soul of the Demon (1991)! During our discussion, we talk about Dan's struggles with SOV, create a spooky delivery service, compare our past treasures from digging in the ground, and marvel over a few fantastic transitions in the film! Leave us a 30 second voicemail and if we like it we'll play it on the show: (949) 4-STABBY (949-478-2229)Next movie announced every Wednesday. In this episode, I talk about Hayao Miyazaki's 1989 film, 'Kiki's Delivery Service.' It's about a 13-year-old witch who must spend a year away from home, learning to live independently and share her gifts. As Kiki opens a delivery service and begins to grow weary and uncertain, she meets women who offer her refuge, wisdom, and friendship. I talk about how this film explores what it means to lose your magic and to slowly find it again. I recorded this at a time when I'm learning to believe in myself again after great loss. All My Sources:Deborah Levy's The Cost of LivingDiscoverGhibli on YoutubeLetters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria RilkeMore about the fictional town of KorikoYou can follow me on Instagram, Letterboxd, and Tumblr. Across Europe, postal services are grappling with declining letter volumes, amid a rise in digitalization. In Demark, where the decline has been particularly steep, the publicly-owned national postal service, PostNord, is bringing an end to 400 years of letter deliveries, to focus solely on parcels from 2026. And while a private firm will step into the gap, letters are a shrinking business. So as digitalization grows, do letters have a future? The BBC's Adrienne Murray reports from the Danish capital with more details.

Today, Onward Delivery's CEO and founder, Grafton Elliott, tackles the fragmentation in oversized freight, why brokers remain essential in this evolving space, and what the NMFC code changes mean for large and bulky logistics! Grafton breaks down how Onward's middleware solution bridges brokers and local carriers' TMS systems without competing with either side.  With parcel models proving unfit for bulky freight, the shift toward workflow standardization and broker-led coordination is crucial, especially as technology now enables this sector to match the speed and visibility of parcel services. As Grafton puts it, the timing couldn't be better to rethink how big and bulky gets delivered!   Connect with Grafton Website: https://www.onwarddelivery.com/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/grafton-elliott-70190298/
