In episode forty-nine, Yuki makes sure to include Machi in the student council's plans to celebrate the end of the school year together. It's also time for the New Year's banquet at the Sohma estate, which results in an unsettling exchange between Akito and Yuki around forgiveness of one another. In episode fifty, Kureno laments to Tohru about his feelings for Arisa. Shigure and Tohru learn the true nature of Kureno's bond to Akito. It's finale time! Grab your spoon, and let's dig in! The apartment I moved into over the summer is next to a really busy intersection, and my neighbors are noisy both downstairs and next door. 13 years have passed since the catastrophic events of March 11th's Great East Japan earthquake & tsunami, along with the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi Plant. Fukushima, as a prefectural community, has demonstrated incredible resiliency in its recovery efforts, but unfortunately there still is a residual stigma attached to the prefecture. One way that Fukushima has been combating that reputation is through some creative initiatives involving education through first-hand experiences. Today, the Krewe sits down with William McMichael, an integral figure in these projects, to discuss how Fukushima University's Fukushima Ambassadors Program & Hope Tourism have helped introduce the world to Fukushima in a different way. ------ About the Krewe ------The Krewe of Japan Podcast is a weekly episodic podcast sponsored by the Japan Society of New Orleans. Welcome to Geek News Movie Night where we watch a film and talk about the good, the bad, and some fun inbetween! This time were taking on a continuation film on the Fruits Basket anime with Fruits Basket Prelude a prequel showing Tohru's life before the Sohma's focusing on her mother Kyoko! #podcast #FruitsBasket #FruitsBasketPrelude
In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Crimson, Farris, and Stoney of Anibaes Anime review episodes nineteen through twenty-one of Fruits Basket (2019). In episode 19, the interpretation of the Sohma's acceptance, or lack thereof, of Ritsu's identity differs amongst the ladies. Ritsu's gift of books about fruit as opposed to actual fruit for Tohru also banana splits the ladies' (mainly Giana's) opinions. The non-humor of Mitsuru's drastic measures due to Shigure's antics gets a heavy helping of hot fudge. In episode 20, Hiro Sohma gets on EVERYBODY'S last nerve. Giana mistakes a Twilight quote for some old, fancy poem. While this episode is centered more on Hiro Sohma, Chika points out that it brings more to light about Kisa's trauma and unsettling relationship with her mother. In episode 21, Crimson points out that Matoko's character design could be purposely pinning her as an “anti-Tohru”. The expectations versus reality of Hanajima's home gives everyone a good laugh. Matoko's and the Yuki Fan Club's behavior gets a heavy scoop of I Scream, You Scream. Grab your spoons, and let's dig in! In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Avary (Kyoruyeye) review episodes ten through twelve of Fruits Basket (2019). In episode 10, Chika and Giana discuss Kyo's hate towards Yuki. Giana describes her attempt at making Valentine's Day chocolates. Chika makes an excellent point about Shigure's job stability. Avary sheds some light on Kyo's treatment by the Sohma's. In episode 11, the story of the “idiot traveler” sparks a deep discussion between the women about kindness and its place in both Fruits Basket and the real world. A certain scene foreshadows a much later event that has all three ladies' hearts going doki-doki. Giana somewhat loses her composure over Eric Vale's performance in a particular scene. In episode 12, Hatsuharu's “proof” gives everyone a laugh. Yuki's emotional past and inner dialogue resonates with Giana. Chika lays down a solid theory about Shigure's manipulation tactics. In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika continue Fruits Basket (2019) with episodes four through six. In episode 4, Giana reads the most difficult Wikipedia summary yet. The way Tohru finds joy in the little things and has such an optimistic outlook impresses Giana and Chika. In Hot Fudge, Chika describes Kagura perfectly to a T. In episode 5, Giana realizes a tear-inducing Sprinkle On Top on the fly. Grandpa Honda steals the show with that righteous slap. Tohru's emotional journey of leaving Shigure's house mixed with the Sohma boys choosing her really strikes a chord with the ladies. The avenue Tohru's cousin takes to become a police officer stirs up a lot of piping hot fudge. In episode 6, we formally meet Momiji and everybody's favorite hot doctor, Hatori! Kyo's reaction to a cat-shaped riceball validates Chika's dislike of eating themed food. Chika speculates which US publisher would take on Shigure's writing. Grab your spoons, and let's dig in! Interview was done December 17, 2020! I love meeting new people willing to let me in and share their “lemon to lemonade” experience! This story is about a lot of adversity and hardship! (Even to get this interview done we had so many things against us! It ended up that I had to hold up the speaker phone to my microphone to finally get this version recorded!) Sohma's philosophy is so profound about: "It's not what happens to us but what we do with it that matters and life is full of diamonds" What message do you get from this interview? Covers all three volumes of Fruits Basket another by Natsuki TakayaWould you like to have another basket of fruit? Natsuki Takaya shows us what the kids of everyone from the original Fruits Basket cast are like in this sequel to the blockbuster series. Another centers around Sawa Mitoma, aka NegaTohru, as she suffers abuse from her single mother and meets the Sohma kids in high school. In this podcast, Fruits Basket fanatic Jacob and Shojo & Tell host Ashley get into whether this sequel series stands on its own, whether it's worth reading, how Takaya handles the same themes but with different power dynamics between the characters, and of course, and who the best Sohma kid is. In this live-streamed episode we discuss chapters 96-99 of Fruits Basket. More dark secrets of the Sohma and the curse are revealed. Akito has remained in bed and is still upset after Yuki’s defiant attitude at New Year’s. Shigure, who seems to be jealous of the attention Kureno is getting, suggests that Yuki be the one to pick up the pieces this time. We are introduced to another Sohma… one who Akito despises, perhaps, most of all. Having watched the DVD that Momiji snuck to him at New Year’s, Kureno meets with Tohru. He reveals more about himself, the curse, and Akito, and explains why he can’t be with Arisa. Tohru is so shocked after their conversation that Hanajima can feel her “calling” with her denpa, comes to find her, and whisks her away from the Sohmas for one night for a sleepover. At Hana’s house, Tohru and Uo have a much-needed heart-to-heart. Kyo rescues a scarf and Shigure begs Yuki not to cook. - - - - - - - Send us a note: staytogetherpodcast@gmail.comhttps://staytogetherpodcast.tumblr.com/https://twitter.com/staytogetherpod If you like the content we've been making you can send a lil' tip our way here: https://ko-fi.com/staytogethernetwork Thank you for listening! Covers volumes 9-16 of Fruits Basket by Natsuki TakayaMassive Furuba fan and Anime News Network editor Jacob Chapman is back to discuss the middle third of Takaya’s classic with Shojo & Tell host Ashley. Most of the dark, dark Sohma family secrets have been revealed this time around, and Tohru is in turmoil over Kyo’s fate. But we’re saving most of the Kyo talk for the third and final podcast! This time, Yuki’s struggles shine after his confrontation with Akito. The particular pains of motherhood — with Tohru’s mother complex and many of the Sohma’s crummy parents — are scrutinized at length. And Jacob explains how Fruits Basket accurately captures the cyclic nature of abuse. It’s a heavy episode, but then, there’s also talk about how the play “Sorta Cinderella” is very funny. Covers volumes 1-8 of Fruits Basket by Natsuki TakayaAt the height of the mid-2000s manga boom in the US, there was no bigger series than Fruits Basket. And this story about orphaned Tohru Honda and the Sohma family curse has endured, getting a very special rerelease in recent years. For a series this influential, we brought on one of the biggest Furuba fans of all: Anime News Network editor Jacob Chapman. We discuss why Fruits Basket left such a lasting impression, who our favorite Sohmas are, how Tokyopop and Yen Press’ translations compare, what the curse really is, Kyo’s “true” form and the search for what’s real, Furuba’s message about belief in others, particularly as it relates to religion and family, and much, much more. Most importantly, obviously, we answer the question: Yuki or Kyo? And just think: This is only the first of three episodes about Takaya’s masterpiece.Click here for a transcript of this episodeREFERENCESFruits Basket is available from Yen Press in a very nice collector’s editionThe Fruits Basket anime is available from FunimationJacob’s Fruits Basket radio drama can still be listened to hereAn in-depth Twitter thread from Jacob comparing Yen Press’ editions to the original Tokyopop releasesOther manga Jacob keeps up with (since he doesn’t read that much manga): Attack on Titan, To Your EternityOther big shojo titles popular during Fruits Basket’s heyday: *Skip Beat, *Boys Over FlowersQuiz Segment: Can We Guess Your Chinese Zodiac Based On Your Taste In Food?
