Hai Wonder Kids, kembali dalam renungan anak GKY Mangga Besar. Judul renungan hari ini adalah Yesus Sang Penghipnotis? Diambil dari: Yohanes 2:11 “Hal itu dibuat Yesus di Kana yang di Galilea, sebagai yang pertama dari tanda-tanda-Nya dan dengan itu Ia telah menyatakan kemuliaan-Nya, dan murid-murid-Nya percaya kepada-Nya.”Wonder Kids, ada orang yang mencoba menjelaskan mujizat Yesus dengan cara yang aneh. Mereka berkata, “Mungkin Yesus hanya menghipnotis orang.” Maksudnya, mereka berpikir bahwa Yesus sebenarnya tidak sungguh melakukan mujizat, tetapi hanya membuat orang-orang melihat atau merasakan sesuatu yang tidak benar-benar terjadi.Tetapi kalau kita membaca Alkitab dengan teliti, penjelasan itu tidak cocok. Dalam Yohanes 2, Yesus mengubah air menjadi anggur pada pesta pernikahan di Kana. Itu bukan mujizat yang terjadi hanya di dalam pikiran satu orang. Banyak orang terlibat di sana. Para pelayan tahu bahwa tempayan itu diisi air. Lalu air itu dibawa kepada pemimpin pesta, dan ia benar-benar mencicipinya sebagai anggur yang baik. Jadi ini bukan sekadar perasaan atau bayangan di kepala seseorang.Selain itu, banyak mujizat Yesus juga terjadi di depan banyak orang. Yesus menyembuhkan orang lumpuh, orang buta, orang tuli, bahkan membangkitkan orang mati. Sulit sekali menjelaskan semua itu hanya dengan hipnotis. Apalagi Yesus juga melakukan mujizat atas alam, seperti meredakan badai. Angin dan ombak tidak bisa dihipnotis.Wonder Kids, renungan hari ini mengingatkan kita bahwa kuasa Yesus itu nyata. Yesus tidak memakai tipu daya. Yesus tidak menipu orang supaya kelihatan hebat. Yesus melakukan tanda-tanda yang benar-benar menunjukkan kemuliaan-Nya. Mujizat-mujizat itu menolong orang melihat bahwa Yesus adalah Anak Allah yang datang dari Bapa.Tetapi yang paling penting bukan hanya kagum kepada mujizat-Nya. Yohanes 2:11 berkata bahwa lewat tanda itu, Yesus menyatakan kemuliaan-Nya dan murid-murid percaya kepada-Nya. Jadi tujuan mujizat Yesus adalah supaya orang mengenal siapa Dia sebenarnya dan percaya kepada-Nya.Kadang-kadang kita juga bisa tergoda untuk hanya mencari hal-hal yang luar biasa. Kita ingin sesuatu yang mengagetkan atau menakjubkan. Tetapi Tuhan mau lebih dari itu. Tuhan mau kita melihat kemuliaan Yesus dan sungguh percaya kepada-Nya, entah saat kita melihat hal yang besar maupun saat kita belajar firman-Nya setiap hari.Wonder Kids, hari ini lakukan ini: Katakan kepada Tuhan dalam doamu, “Tuhan Yesus, aku percaya bahwa kuasa-Mu nyata. Tolong aku bukan hanya kagum kepada-Mu, tetapi sungguh percaya dan mengasihi-Mu.”Mari kita berdoa: Tuhan Yesus, terima kasih karena Engkau tidak memakai tipu daya, tetapi menunjukkan kuasa dan kemuliaan-Mu dengan nyata. Zakaj nekateri bogataški negativci z velikega platna absolutno odbijajo, medtem ko nas drugi vendarle neustavljivo privlačijo?»Pohlep, ob pomanjkanju boljših besed, je dober,« pravi Michael Douglas v slovitem monologu iz filma Wall Street, pod katerega se je podpisal režiser Oliver Stone. Se pa Douglas tu seveda ne ustavi, temveč v vlogi brezvestnega investitorja Gordona Gekka, za katero je leta 1987 prejel tudi oskarja za najboljšega igralca, nadaljuje: »Pohlep se nikoli ne moti. Pohlep deluje. Pohlep razjasni sleherno situacijo in izraža samega duha evolucije. Naj gre za pohlep po življenju, po denarju, po ljubezni ali znanju, pohlep je obraz nezadržnega vzpona človeštva.« Te besede so se razločno vpisale v naš kolektivni kulturno-zgodovinski spomin. Berejo se namreč kot nekakšen eleganten destilat dominantne ideologije zadnjih nekaj desetletij na Zahodu; so esenca neoliberalizma, njegovega – ob pomanjkanju boljših besed – temeljnega etosa. No, kar se ni vpisalo v naš kulturno-zgodovinski spomin, pa je, da je jedrno sporočilo filma, sporočilo Wall Streeta kot celote, natanko nasprotno razmišljanju Gordona Gekka. Oliver Stone, čigar levičarske simpatije niso nikakršna skrivnost, namreč skuša pokazati, kako pohlep spodjeda tradicionalne vrednote, kot sta pošteno delo in osebnostna integriteta, pokazati skuša, kako pohlep razgrajuje ključne medčloveške, družbene vezi, ne nazadnje skuša pokazati, kako pohlep uničuje tudi t. i. realno gospodarstvo. Vse to film poskuša, gledalke in gledalci pa smo si zapomnili – in najbrž vsaj malo tudi ponotranjili – predvsem poglede, stališča in vrednote karizmatičnega negativca Gekka. Zakaj? Morda zato, ker se vrtoglavega bogastva vedno drži nekaj magnetično, neustavljivo privlačnega? – Ta argument sicer zveni precej prepričljivo, a zakaj potem nihče ne sanjari o tem, da bi nekega dne postal odtujeni magnat à la Charles Foster Kane iz Državljana Kana, legendarne mojstrovine Orsona Wellsa iz leta 1941? Zakaj nikomur ne pade na misel, da bi svoje življenje živel kot gospod Potter, brezčutni, hladnokrvni skopuh iz filma Čudovito življenje, ki ga je leta 1946 posnel Frank Capra? Pravo vprašanje, ki si ga v tem kontekstu torej velja postaviti, je slej ko prej tole: zakaj nekateri bogataški negativci z velikega platna absolutno odbijajo, medtem ko drugi vendarle zapeljivo mamijo? K temu pa morda lahko dodamo še tole podvprašanje: ali je filmov, ki zasledovanje in kopičenje bogastva ter življenje na veliki nogi prikazujejo v privlačnejši luči, kaj več, odkar sta ob koncu 70-ih let 20. stoletja Margaret Thatcher in Ronald Reagan sprožila neoliberalno revolucijo? – Odgovore smo v tokratnem, filmsko obarvanem Kulturnem fokusu iskali v pogovoru z dr. Krzysztof Stanowski nawoływał najpierw do linczu na niewinnej urzędniczce, a teraz żartuje z przemocy domowej. – Co on musi mieć w głowie? – pyta Natalia Waloch, dziennikarka „Wysokich Obcasów”. – Pewne jest, że w namawianiu do agresji naśladuje amerykańskich youtuberów z manosfery, bo wie, że to zapewni mu dużą oglądalność. – Jak to możliwe, że w kraju, w którym tylko od początku roku w wyniku przemocy domowej zginęło 40 kobiet, próbuje się z niej żartować? – zastanawia się Magdalena Keler z „Gazety Wyborczej”. Nie do śmiechu jest również tym, którzy liczyli na ukaranie winnych „afery dwóch wież”. Wygląda na to, że Kaczyńskiemu nie spadnie po niej włos z głowy, a Tusk wcale nie steruje ręcznie prokuraturą.  – Kanał Zero stał się elementem analiz samego YouTube'a w Stanach Zjednoczonych – ujawnia Miłosz Lodowski. Sukces finansowy i zasięgowy nowego formatu Krzysztofa Stanowskiego zszokował nawet amerykańskich ekspertów od marketingu cyfrowego. 

Objawił się. Doktor pułkownik Emil Jędrzejewski, były ordynator chirurgii w Szpitalu Południowym w Warszawie przypomniał sobie, że w placówce tej w efekcie błędów medycznych umierali ludzie. Afera szpitalna jest realnym problemem politycznym Donalda Tuska. Premier dyskredytuje Jędrzejewskiego, ale nawet jeśli opowieści doktora pułkownika uznać za niewiarygodne, to i tak mamy do czynienia ze skandalem. Młody, 28-letni lekarz Dawid Kacprzyk — radny KO — dostał w Szpitalu Południowym posadę koordynatora SOR z zarobkami rzędu 1,6 mln rocznie. Wiele wskazuje na to, że fałszował raporty o liczbie przepracowanych godzin. Mógł także przyjmować bez kolejki swych kolegów z Koalicji Obywatelskiej. Na listę partyjnych pacjentów szpitala jeszcze poczekamy. Wszyscy, których nazwiska w przestrzeni publicznej padały, zaprzeczyli. Ta lista to jest w tej chwili najpilniej poszukiwany skarb sceny politycznej. Poszukiwany zarówno przez PiS jaki i przez KO. Koalicja w końcu chciałaby wiedzieć komu to wszystko zawdzięcza i kogo mogłaby poświęcić politycznie. A PiS — wiadomo, liczy na polityczne złoto. Twórcy „Stanu Wyjątkowego" Dominika Długosz i Kamil Dziubka zauważają, że rozliczenia na razie dotknęły tylko doktora radnego Kacprzyka. Nie ma pracy, nie ma mandatu, nie ma partii. W najtrudniejszej politycznie sytuacji są teraz wiceprezydentki Warszawy, zastępczynie Rafała Trzaskowskiego. Jedna wiceprezydentka odpowiada za całą służbę zdrowia w stolicy, zaś druga zasiadała w radzie nadzorczej Szpitala Południowego. Obie siedzą jak na szpilkach. Ale odnaleziona po dwóch tygodniach od wybuchu afery ministra zdrowia też nie może być spokojna. Koalicja Obywatelska siedzi w tej chwili na bombie — nie da się tej historii ani zagadać ani zamilczeć. Jeśli Tusk nie wyprowadzi partii z tego korkociągu, to za półtora roku będziemy mówić, że właśnie od tego zaczęła się jego porażka wyborcza.

Larry Jent is a Cherokee storyteller, Methodist pastor and musician living outside Elkins, West Virginia.  After readings about the stars and owls in Cherokee mythology we hear of the role of the The Creator, demi-god like figures such as Selu [Corn] and her husband Kana'ti [The Lucky Hunter], and animals in general. Wanneer wij luisteren naar het verhaal van de verspieders, horen wij een verhaal dat de Tora niet één keer vertelt, maar twee keer. En de rabbijnen zeggen: wanneer de Tora iets herhaalt, is het niet omdat wij het vergeten zijn, maar omdat wij het nog niet diep genoeg hebben verstaan. In Numeri horen wij het verhaal zoals het gebeurde. De Eeuwige zegt: “Stuur voor jezelf mannen.” Rashi zegt: dit is geen gebod, maar een concessie. God zegt: als jullie niet kunnen vertrouwen zonder te zien, ga dan maar zien. Bamidbar Rabba vergelijkt dit met een koning die zijn zoon een geschenk wil geven, maar de zoon zegt: “Laat mij eerst kijken of het wel goed is.” De koning antwoordt: “Ik weet dat je het niet aankunt, maar als je het wilt, ga dan.” De midrasj zegt: zo was het met Israël. God wist dat de missie hen zou breken, maar Hij liet hen gaan omdat vertrouwen niet kan worden opgedrongen.En dan gaan de twaalf verspieders. De midrasj vertelt dat zij bij Chevron kwamen, waar de reuzen woonden, en dat God hen juist daarheen leidde om hen te laten zien dat zelfs de grootste vijanden sterfelijk zijn. Maar de verspieders zagen niet wat God wilde dat zij zagen. Bamidbar Rabba zegt: “Zij zagen, maar zij zagen niet.” Zij zagen de reuzen, maar niet de God die hen uit Egypte had geleid. Zij zagen de muren, maar niet de wolk die hen omhulde. Zij zagen de vrucht van het land, maar niet de vrucht van de belofte.De midrasj vertelt zelfs dat God de bewoners van het land op dat moment in rouw dompelde, zodat de verspieders ongezien konden rondtrekken. Maar de verspieders interpreteerden dit verkeerd en zeiden: “Het is een land dat zijn bewoners verslindt.” De rabbijnen zeggen: dit is de tragedie van angst — zij verdraait zelfs de tekenen van bescherming tot tekenen van gevaar.En dan komt die ene zin: “Wij kunnen niet optrekken, want zij zijn sterker dan wij.” Rashi zegt: lees het ook als: sterker dan Hij. De midrasj hoort hierin een fluistering van ongeloof, een moment waarop de angst zo groot wordt dat zelfs de herinnering aan de wonderen vervaagt.Maar dan horen wij het verhaal opnieuw in Deuteronomium. Mozes staat op de drempel van het land en kijkt terug. En hij vertelt het anders. Hij zegt niet: “God zei: stuur mannen.” Hij zegt: “U kwam naar mij toe en zei: laten wij mannen uitsturen.” De midrasj in Sifrei Devarim zegt dat Mozes hiermee de wortel van de zonde blootlegt: het was niet de missie die verkeerd was, maar het hart dat haar voortbracht. De angst was er al vóór de verspieders gingen. De mislukking begon niet bij hun verslag, maar bij het verlangen om zekerheid te hebben voordat men kon vertrouwen.Mozes zegt zelfs: “Het voorstel beviel mij.” De rabbijnen vragen: hoe kon Mozes dit goed vinden? En zij antwoorden: omdat zelfs de grootste leider soms meegaat in de angst van het volk. De midrasj zegt: “Mozes werd meegesleept door hun twijfel, zoals een mens wordt meegesleept door een sterke stroom.” Het is een pijnlijke, maar eerlijke erkenning: leiderschap is niet immuun voor de angst van de gemeenschap.Er is een verhaal uit onze eigen traditie dat dit pijnlijk en eerlijk laat zien. Aan het einde van zijn leven stond Menno Simons voor een keuze die hem zijn hele bestaan had gevormd: de eenheid van de gemeente bewaren, of weerstand bieden aan een besluit waarvan hij diep van binnen wist dat het te ver ging.De meniste gemeenten waren in die tijd verscheurd door angst. Angst voor verwatering, angst voor afwijking, angst dat de jonge beweging uiteen zou vallen. En in die angst werd de ban — de meiding — steeds strenger uitgelegd. Niet alleen als tuchtmiddel, maar als totale sociale uitsluiting. Een zware, harde vorm die het leven van mensen brak.Menno zelf had deze radicale vorm nooit gewild. Zijn eigen geschriften tonen een mildere, pastorale visie. Maar de gemeenschap om hem heen dreef in een andere richting. De druk was groot. De leiders om hem heen waren bang dat elke nuance, elke verzachting, elke pastorale uitzondering de gemeente zou splijten. En Menno, moe van jaren van strijd, voelde die angst in zijn eigen hart binnendringen.De kronieken vertellen dat hij uiteindelijk instemde met een zware ban die hij eigenlijk niet kon dragen. Hij deed het, zo zei hij later, “om de vrede van de gemeente te bewaren.” Maar het was een vrede die hem innerlijk brak. Want hij wist dat deze uitleg van de ban verder ging dan de geest van Christus die hij zijn hele leven had willen volgen.Later, toen de storm was gaan liggen, sprak hij openlijk zijn spijt uit. Hij zei dat hij had toegegeven aan de druk van de gemeenschap, dat hij had gehandeld uit zorg voor de eenheid, maar dat hij daarmee iets had toegestaan wat zijn eigen geweten niet volledig kon dragen.En de traditie bewaart dat moment niet om Menno te veroordelen, maar om ons iets te leren: zelfs de grootste leiders, zelfs de zachtste herders, zelfs de meest standvastige getuigen kunnen worden meegesleept door de angst van de gemeenschap. Leiderschap staat niet boven de angst; het staat er middenin. En juist daarom is het zo kwetsbaar.Het verhaal van Menno is geen schaduw op zijn nalatenschap. Het is een licht dat laat zien hoe menselijk leiderschap is. Hoezeer zelfs de meest toegewijde dienaren van God kunnen wankelen wanneer de gemeenschap bang wordt. En hoe belangrijk het is dat wij niet alleen bidden voor onze leiders, maar ook waken over de angst die wij als gemeenschap in hun hart kunnen leggen.Terug naar Deuteronomium. Daar spreekt Mozes die ene zin die als een diagnose klinkt: “U wilde niet optrekken.” Niet: u kon niet. Niet: u durfde niet. Maar: u wilde niet. De midrasj zegt: dit is de kern van het menselijk falen — niet dat wij niet kunnen, maar dat wij niet willen geloven dat wij kunnen.Gemeente, de Tora vertelt het verhaal twee keer omdat wij twee manieren van zien nodig hebben. Numeri laat ons de angst zien zoals zij voelt: rauw, overweldigend, onmiddellijk. Deuteronomium laat ons de angst zien zoals zij werkelijk is: een keuze, een weigering, een innerlijke beweging die wij kunnen herkennen en omkeren.De midrasj zegt dat de nieuwe generatie het verhaal moest horen “zoals een arts de wond opent om haar te genezen.” Niet om te beschuldigen, maar om te helen. Want ieder mens kent zijn eigen verspieders. Ieder mens kent de stemmen die zeggen: “Wij kunnen niet opgaan.” En ieder mens kent ook de verleiding om te zeggen: “Wij willen niet opgaan.”Maar de Tora laat ook de andere stemmen horen. De stem van Kaleb, die zegt: “Wij zullen zeker opgaan.” De midrasj zegt dat Kaleb naar Chevron ging om te bidden bij het graf van de aartsvaders, om kracht te vinden tegen de angst. En de stem van Jozua, die volgens de midrasj beschermd werd door het gebed van Mozes: “Moge God jou redden van het complot van de verspieders.” De rabbijnen zeggen: niemand overwint de reuzen van buiten zonder eerst de reuzen van binnen te overwinnen.Moge het zo zijn dat wij leren luisteren naar de stemmen van Kaleb en Jozua in ons eigen hart. Dat wij leren zien zoals Mozes ons leert zien — niet alleen met de ogen van het moment, maar met de ogen van herinnering en vertrouwen.
