L is for Ligtnin' (and) Licks. Ladies Love Loud Losers, listen...In the early 1970s, legendary collaborator and self-proclaimed non-musician Brian Eno famously designed a deck of 115 cards containing elliptical imperatives to spark in the user creative connections unobtainable through regular modes of work. He called his creation "Oblique Strategies." For the past six decades, artists the world over in every artistic medium have used Eno's strategy while attempting to overcome a lull in creative output. In 2025, lazy, lackluster yet somehow still award-winning* hobby podcasters and self-proclaimed Lightnin' Lickers Jay and Deon found themselves uninspired when contemplating the potential theme of their upcoming forty-third episode. Together, they decided... to default back to the alphabet. Because they have a reasonably solid grasp of the alphabet and how it works. They had previously utilized the letters A thru K, so naturally, they went with L.Sonic contributors featured in Lightnin' Licks Radio's forty-third episode include: Beastie Boys, National Public Radio, James Todd Smith, Ol' Burger Beats, Prince Paul, De La Soul, Gravediggaz, Method Man, John Ussery. In the midst of a record year for the flu, Dr. Prather explains why you should first think of seeing a Structure-Function Health Care doctor when you get sick. In this episode, we talk about:—Why Dr. Prather says that Structure-Function Care offers "so many more options" for someone who is sick compared to Disease Care.—How Disease Care can make the symptoms go away, but can actually make someone sicker. And how this is what happens with Antibiotics, which suppress symptoms, but will weaken your immune system for 3 months.—The reason why someone who never gets sick can sometimes be a negative thing because it means their immune system is not responding to viruses. And why isolation can be harmful for a person's immune system.—The importance of Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Zinc when someone is sick. And the natural product Dr. Prather uses for his patients that works better than Ivermectin and Hydroxychloriquine.—The Diathermy treatment that makes sick patients feel better immediately by improving blood and lymphatic flow. And how Diathermy helps crying little ones suffering from ear infections in just a few minutes.—Why Dr. Prather considers Venus Fly Trap and Iridodial two of his "favorite" Herbals for treating the "really tough" sick conditions, including COVID patients who were "in dire straits". And the effectiveness of Homeopathy and Glandulars for helping patients to fight viruses.—How Chiropractic and Acupuncture treatments make patients feel better and can stop a Fever before they even leave the office. And the benefits of Infrared Sauna and the "Immune Booster" IV Therapy at Holistic Integration. —How Measles is "very easy to treat" with Vitamin A" and is "basically an innocuous childhood infection" that "actually helps to boost the immune system".—Why Dr. Prather says that "all flus are Bird Flus" and his thoughts on the potential dangers of the latest Bird Flu to humans.—The dangers of mRNA vaccines.http://www.TheVoiceOfHealthRadio.com

When you have a business that sells a product, you have two choices. You can try and sell it to everyone earth, like Coca Cola, or you can concentrate on a more targeted market. The Coca Cola model is called Mass Marketing. The targeted approach is called Niche Marketing. Sometimes businesses say they have a niche market as a euphemism for the fact that very few people are buying their product. But there are businesses whose products are legitimately very niche. Like, for example, human breast milk. Human breastmilk is intended to be consumed orally by human offspring. But it also has other applications. For example, it can be an ingredient in medicinal soap. When Shay Franklin had a baby, she discovered she was an over-producer of breast milk. When her 4 month of old daughter, Nova, was diagnosed with psoriasis and eczema, Shay used her surplus supply to make breastmilk soap. The soap worked miracles for baby Nova's skin condition, and Shay started selling her bars of soap to other people in need, on Tik Tok and at local farmer's markets. But even an over-producer only has so much breast milk. So, Shay came up with other recipes. Today her company, Shay's Organics, has a line of skincare products including soaps, scrubs, cleansers, body butter, and more. It seems popular these days for people who care about their diet to eat what is called a “plant-based diet.” If there's a growing number of people who predominantly eat plants, in a sort of horticultural revenge, there's also a growing interest in plants who eat meat. Beyond the well-known Venus Fly Trap, there are in fact a whole range of carnivorous plants. And there's a niche market of folks who love and care for them. Locally, these folks shop at a business called, We Bite Rare & Unusual Plants. The owner of We Bite is Carlos Detres. One of the knocks against living in a small city like New Orleans – compared to, say, Los Angeles or New York - is the limited range of goods and services available in a smaller place. The logic is, with a smaller population you have a smaller market to sell to. At some point the scale just gets too small to sustain a business for products that aren't in great demand. But when your whole reason for existing at all is a niche market – say, Black and Latina women with discerning organic skincare tastes, or self-identifying strange and peculiar people looking for carnivorous plants and fellow travelers – traditional market logic ceases to apply. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans. A recent article in the AARP Magazine inspired Dr. Prather to talk about this topic because he didn't like what the article said. In this episode, we talk about:—How the summer COVID numbers indicate "a very high" amount of cases expected as we enter into Fall and Winter. —Why the vaccines actually create new COVID variants. And how the COVID vaccine has been shown to be neither safe or effective.—How to build your immunity and protect yourself from COVID. And the diagnostics you should get annually to find out the exact state of your health and immune system.—The importance of checking your Vitamin D levels since 85% of deaths from COVID could have been prevented had their Vitamin D levels been in the proper range. And the Vitamin D level Dr. Prather describes as a "super immunity" number. —The "huge" impact of Iodine on your immune system. And the optimal (and identical) ranges for Iodine and Vitamin D.—How the loss of taste and smell from COVID is an indication of low Zinc. And the natural Zinc delivery system Dr. Prather uses in his office that actually works better than Ivermectin.—Dr. Prather's recommendation of IV Therapy with Vitamin C when you have COVID. And why Structure-Function Care is "really important" because that's where you're going to get a boosting of yours immune system.—Why Dr. Prather calls Venus Fly Trap and Iridodial "like a magic formula" for helping with COVID, which "hardly anybody else has talked about". —The shocking number of people that Dr. Prather estimates who are truly dealing with Long COVID symptoms. And the symptoms of Long COVID, including: extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, cognitive changes, sleep disturbances, depression, anxiety, digestive issues, new allergies, and joint pain.—Why Kidney problems were a major factor in determining how hard someone would be hit by COVID and are also being seen after COVID. And how Dr. Prather's office is "really, really good at fixing the Kidneys" and "probably has the best results in the country".http://www.TheVoiceOfHealthRadio.com

8 more 70's movie reviews in the can. Starting things off today with (Billy Jack 1971). This is a sequel to a 1967 film called Born Losers, and it is just out of our reach for us. Here is a movie written by the 2 stars in the film and directed by BJ himself. Seems like a real labor of love, and it's pretty great and we'll tell ya'll about it very shortly, or we already are and your reading while your listening, how can you do that? Before we move on BJ is a film about a safe haven and school for outcasts and people of color, where close minded murderous Hicks are just outside the border, waiting to be racist and horrible to the max, I do hope someone has amazing fighting skills hmmm. One more thing, Howard Hesseman……..Johnny Flippin Fever from WKRP is HERE in this film, however, we suck and said it was Venus Flytrap, sorry bout that icky rookie mistake, Venus was played by the amazing Tim Reid and he is not in this film. Moving on to (Duck, you sucker 1971) Here we have the awful man who will soon have no friends from Happy birthday Wanda June (Rod Steiger), and the gross reporter guy from Goldengirl, (James Coburn), starring in this film about how to become heroes in the Mexican revolution. Hmmmmmm, your gonna need an explosives expert. Next up is (The Outside Man 1972) which stars a focused French guy, the guy that wants the beaches closed and doesn't care about yer concession sales, the amazing Ann flippin Margaret, and Angie (dressed to kill) Dickinson. Here is a movie with the idea of action, with out a lot of it, 70's style. You get to see massive amounts of driving round L.A. You can see the old Venice amusement pier, some of the weird street characters, and one thing we wanted to mention but spaced it, was the appearance of public electric shaver in a bathroom, which seems unsanitary, hey, I gots time let's look it up….Time has passed, and the internet has failed me, or perhaps my use of it has failed. (Badge 373 1973) Verna Bloom, star of a western we all liked, The Hired Hand, is here with Robert Duvall, Henry Darrow, and Radical 60's n 70's activist and Young Lord Felipe Luciano. Here we have some competing actors and the inspirational Felipe, kinda stuck in some budget cop movie, based on the guy whose budget cop stories also inspired the French connection character of Popeye D. Onward we strut to the light and uplifting Ingmar Bergman classic (Scenes from a Marriage 1974), almost too heavy to get into, but I don't really have to, I'll just skim that surface for you and move on. You've got amazing acting, directing, and cinematography, a good script etc. I wonder what could ever go wrong with a film focused on and icky relationship, through the years. He is horrid to the max, and it is worthwhile to examine relationships and the social norms and conditioning that live inside them. Gosh it was just difficult for your beloved D.U.I. crew to get through. Come with us now to 1975 with (Rancho Deluxe). Rancho Deluxe, is the Slim Pickens holy grail that I didn't even know I was looking for. Now, you have other stuff goin on here, like Starman (Jeff Bridges) and the dad from Serial Mom (Sam Waterson) are trying to pay rent and piss off a bull baron guy, although Bridges is slumming it, so to speak. Also serial mom's dad's Dad is played by Joe Spinell and he steals the dang show for the scene he's in. Lot's of good talent here, but is it good, or great, listen to find out? Second to last today we review (Outlaw Josey Wales 1976) a puzzling film directed by Clint Eastwood starring Sondra Locke, and Chief mother flippin Dan George, that's it. Finally today we enjoy (Corevette Summer 1978) “It's not even his car, it belongs to the school, It's not even your car!!” This film has Mary Jo Shively from designing woman, and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars confronting the guy from Laser Blast to return the schools hot rod, back to the school. Thank you for listening, reach us on instagram and Facebook
Interview with Ramona Jan of The Comateens Part 2 The Comateens were one of NYC's earliest synth-punk bands, along with Suicide and Kraftwerk one of the few live bands to perform with a drum machine. Jan and North formed the band in 1978, bonding over their shared love of merely playing music together and the punk rock scene taking shape in downtown NYC. Singer and synth player Lyn Byrd and drummer Harry Viderci joined shortly afterwards. Both cuts were recorded at Mediasound in 1979 with Jan on guitar, North on bass, Byrd on synths and Viderci playing drums. Don Wersheba and Harvey J. Goldberg engineered; Ray Janos was the mastering engineer. The Comateens' Ramona Jan and Nicholas “Nic North” Dembling had just gotten started when they recorded “Danger Zone,” a sneering, blaring punk song spit-sung by Nicholas with Ramona Jan's untutored guitars sounding like an electric razor, a catchy chorus floating in from Jan's love of Motown. “Elizabeth's Lover” leans toward 60's girl-group with a gleeful chorus as taunting and addictive as “My Boyfriend's Back.” The song marks Jan's turn from punk rock to new wave. “Danger Zone” was originally backed with “Cool Chick,” recorded during the same session and released independently on Teenmaster Records. Jan left the band shortly after recording these songs due to a series of unfortunate misunderstandings, so this version of “Elizabeth's Lover” was never released. Jan recorded it again, later, with Dizzy and the Romilars. Left for Dead's James Reynolds considered releasing the original “Danger Zone” single on his Jimboco Records, however he put out Dizzy and the Romilars' version of “Elizabeth's Lover” in 1980 instead, followed by the Ramona Jan-produced NastyFacts single “Drive My Car” in ‘81. The band was able to record at Mediasound because Jan was an audio engineer there, one of only a handful of women engineers in the world. On the then-gritty Upper West Side, Jan lived cheaply at the bohemian Bretton Hall on the corner of Broadway and 86th Street, dodging pimps and prostitutes on the elevator to her apartment. The building's low rent also attracted other types of artists, though, and a neighbor heard her singing, knocked on the door and asked her if she'd want to record. The neighbor worked at Mediasound Studio in Midtown. Jan took one look around and realized she just had to work there. She told the boss she'd wanted to be a recording engineer all her life—a lie—and that her mother was an electrician, her father a piano tuner, another falsehood. She was hired on the spot and thrived, kicking off a lifelong career in engineering and production that led to work with Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Ramones (who wrote “Ramona” about her.) and more. Comateens continued after Jan left the band, recording three full lengths and building a dedicated following in France before breaking up in the mid-1980s. Their biggest hit was a cover of the “Munster's Theme Song,” recorded in 1981. Ramona Jan has also had an active career in music since, performing with Dizzy and the Romilars and more recently Northeast Regional Folk Alliance award winners, JANTURAN. She was a founding member Venus Fly Trap, an all-female vocal group, whose members Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell now tour with Bruce Springsteen. Venus Fly Trap sang with David Johansen's Buster Poindexter act and won the 1984 Village Voice Award Best Street Performer. Jan is also a writer, the author of the first biography of Jon Bon Jovi, published by Sony. She recently received the 2023 Upper Delaware Council Cultural Award as well as a 2023 Congressional Award for her work as Director of Yarnslingers, a true storytelling group based in the Catskills. She is currently the Tuesday columnist for the award-winning Sullivan County Democrat with her column, Ramona's Ramblings. https://www.leftfordeadrecords.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/445047024405291 https://www.instagram.com/leftfordeadrecs/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comateens, https://comateens.com/

Interview with Nicholas West ( Nic North) & Romona Jan of The Comateens. The Comateens were one of NYC's earliest synth-punk bands, along with Suicide and Kraftwerk one of the few live bands to perform with a drum machine. Byrd, Tom, Kevin and Lux pair up two independent horror films made in Japan by American filmmakers, with a mix of American and Japanese cast and crew. First up we have the Manster, an early body horror film directed by Kenneth G Crane (the American version of Half Human) and starring Peter Dynely (Thunderbirds), Terri Zimmern Jerry Ito (Mothra), and Tetsu Nakamura (Mothra, Latitude Zero). It is about an American journalist in Japan who becomes the subject of an evolution experiment that causes a monstrous creature to grow out of his shoulder and commit murders across Tokyo. Then we have the Revenge of Dr. X (actually titled Venus Flytrap), a film written by Ed Wood (yes, that Ed Wood) and shot in Japan by bored military personnel stationed there (we get into that insane story). It tells the story of a cantankerous NASA scientist who goes to Japan to "relax" and (for reasons left unclear) starts splicing plant DNA to create a violent plant-man. There's unhinged gas station attendants, pearl divers, mute hunchbacks and more. How do these compare to other b-movies of the times? Why did some guys in the military decide to buy an Ed Wood script and shoot it in Japan? Why is SO MUCH of the information out there about Dr. X false? Which of these movies nearly drove us to madness? We have the answers, so relax and enjoy the conversation!

On this ID the Future from the vault, Andrew McDiarmid reads from Marcos Eberlin's fascinating book Foresight: How the Chemistry of Life Reveals Planning and Purpose. In this excerpt, the distinguished Brazilian scientist highlights the challenge the Venus flytrap poses for evolutionary theory. Dr. Eberlin describes the problem: The Venus flytrap, like all carnivorous plants, has no use for its insect-trapping function unless it also has an insect-digesting function. And vice versa. But the evolutionary mechanism of natural selection selects for current function, not potential future function. Unlike a designing intelligence, natural selection can't look into the future and plan in that way. So for natural selection to have selected these twin systems, they would somehow have had to evolve together. Read More › Source
