Were the Old and New Testaments written at the same time? Are their stories a continuous historical saga, or a parallel version of the same priest-system? Questions this big require evidence, and in this episode we continue exploring the book of Exodus and Moses for the fingerprints of the universal monomyth and astro-theological implications. Creativity doesn't come with a handbook, so we're building our own. We swap notes on how solo game makers and artists actually get things done: setting a three-influence pillar to keep ideas fresh, designing from mechanics without losing theme, and navigating the murky last 5 percent where projects stall. Sarah shares how Bluebeard's Bride and Velvet Glove grew from triangulated influences, why a haunted hotel retreat unlocked a stuck chapter, and how tiny mint‑tin drawings rebuilt a drawing habit. Jay brings a crunchy “debt‑punk” concept where upgrades cost debt and the whole loop is about clawing your way back to zero, plus the reality of pacing work under the gaze of Kickstarter backers. We get candid about boundaries, voice, and trust. Backers deserve clarity, not personal disclosure, so we talk about communicating progress without oversharing. Editing is a partnership that should preserve tone, not sand it down. Accountability doesn't have to be a crowd; sometimes it's a weekly call with one trusted peer who will cheer, critique, and expect pages by Tuesday. And when screens drain you, physical making—ink sketches, pencils, binding, even painting minis—can refill the well in a way no doc can. Music becomes a quiet engine for focus too: looping Yes Yeah Yeahs for a vast, echoing dungeon vibe; dropping All Them Witches to score void‑cathedrals and space‑goth moods. There's a personal layer we don't gloss over: how early support—or the lack of it—shapes creative identity, and how we parent with privacy in mind while giving kids real access to tools, art, and music. We close with an “Ask One Forward” prompt for our next guests, the Bakers, about social media, kids, and creativity, and we lay out what's shipping: In The Pines in edit, Velvet Glove headed to editing, Prison Planet drafting, and more playtests on deck. If you care about game design craft, sustainable habits, and finishing strong without losing your voice, this one's for you.Enjoyed the conversation? Calling doesn't arrive as a neat job title. It asks for consent. In this deep, playful, and piercing conversation with Thomas Moore—author of Care of the Soul—we explore how the Midheaven (tenth house) points not to status but to a life that can bear its own meaning in public. Thomas shares how fifty years of quiet preparation—monastic study, Latin and Greek, music, Jung—suddenly opened into visibility, and how he learned to stand on big stages without losing the cave within. We trace practical pathways from symbol to life. Ficino's Renaissance astrology and the idea of stellar rays become a usable art: choosing textures, colors, plants, and music that genuinely nourish temperament. Beauty shows up as medicine, a missing ingredient in clinical spaces shaped solely by science. From there we wade into the myths that guide us—Rapunzel's root hunger, Pegasus striking the spring of the Muses—and ask what it means to descend to our roots so we can rise well. Depth versus height, “higher” education versus lower, richer knowing; Thomas prods us to find what truly feeds the soul. The heart-work is also gritty. Parents and culture can shrink a life. Angels—those messenger moments—ask for an answer. Sometimes you jump in the river, sometimes you wrestle toward a yes, but either way the next step is usually the truest one. We talk late blooming, saving depression rather than erasing it, Saturn's gifts, and why aiming higher than your current story of yourself is an act of care. If you're feeling adrift, this is a map and a nudge: let your roots inform your reach, let the muses tune your work, and meet your calling as it unfolds. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review—then tell us: what's the next step your calling is asking you to take?*The above blurb was auto-generated by Buzzsprout's AIThomas Moore's website where you can find his books, teachings and more. Episode Artwork: The Alchemist c. 1558 - Philip Galle after Pieter Bruegel the ElderJoin the Newsletter! They opened up MUSE after wanting to disrupt the massage industry in Toronto having worked in the field themselves. We discuss popular offerings, client requests and asks, and how they have seen the industry change over the years. I had to go out with a Big Bang and have these ladies on as my last guests.Thank you ALL who have listened to even just one episode, those who have been there from the start, every single guest, every Patreon member, every brand new baby SWer and those who have been well-seasoned in this industry... The drums hit before the curry cools, the Muses raise the roof, and a shadow man steals the show—Wesley's maiden voyage on Disney Destiny was packed with moments that surprised in the best ways. We're picking up where we left off last week to continue our look into Disney's newest cruise ship.We dig into Pride Lands' dinner theater, where gorgeous savannah lighting and rich design meet a sound mix that sometimes overwhelms the meal. The food is a genuine highlight—complex, abundant, and anchored by a standout shrimp curry—while we wrestle with the core question: how much concert belongs at the dinner table?Over in the Walt Disney Theatre, Disney Hercules lands with heart and swagger. Updated staging, sharp costumes, and a thoughtful new Meg song bring fresh energy without losing the movie's soul. We talk cast chemistry, why early runs improve fast, and how the Muses keep the momentum humming. Between shows, the ship's narrative threads come alive through interactive touchpoints—Loki's mischief, Cruella's flair, and especially Dr. Facilier's parlor, a 10-minute, worth-the-wait immersion that proves performance can transform a simple room into event theater.Shore days show the contrast between Castaway Cay and Lookout Key. Castaway remains the masterclass in Disney-style storytelling: visual “weenies,” intuitive flow, and that feeling of being guided from ship to sand. Lookout Key dazzles with pink sand, silky water, and quiet snorkeling spots, but it's spread out and light on narrative cues. We share what worked, what needs a Phase 2, and why both stops are worth your time for different reasons. Along the way, we trade practical tips on seating, lines, and sound, debate cruise-ship identity versus theme-park density, and spotlight Version 55.71—Wesley's passion project tracking Disney Parks changes like software updates (https://version5571.com).If you're weighing a maiden voyage, curious about Pride Lands, or planning days at Castaway and Lookout, this is your guide to the wins, the tradeoffs, and the can't-miss moments. In this episode, Chance and Dylan dive deep into the many identities hidden behind the name “Moses.”We explore how ancient authors described Moses in the plural, why his story echoes across multiple cultures, and how the archetype of the persecuted child appears everywhere from Greece to Egypt. The conversation uncovers striking parallels between Moses, Bacchus, and other mythic river-gods, revealing the importance of water symbolism, astro-theology, and cyclical creation myths. We also examine the roles of the Muses and Nymphs, the Egyptian influence on biblical narratives, and the allegorical layers beneath the Exodus tradition. This episode blends mythology, philology, and ancient history, showing how deeply interconnected these stories truly are — and how the figure of Moses reflects a much older, broader, and more universal mythic pattern.EXTENDED EPISODE FOR MEMBERS ONLYPatreon - https://www.patreon.com/posts/144912153Substack - https://innerversepodcast.substack.com/p/the-many-faces-of-moses-and-the-greekYT - https://youtu.be/Y89lcpoahwcLINKSBiofield Tuning with Chance: https://www.innerversepodcast.com/sound-healingSpirit Whirled Audiobooks: https://www.innerversepodcast.com/audiobooksDylan Saccoccio on Substack: https://www.substack.com/greattideSUPPORT

On the Soul's Terms

The night breaks and a mountain appears. We step out of the eighth house and into the ninth, following a mythic trail across four Greek peaks—Helicon, Delphi on Parnassus, Olympus, and Pelion—to understand how vision is born, tested, codified, and taught. This is a journey from trauma to Pegasus, from memory to the Muses, from riddled answers to living oracles, from the banquet of certainty to the humility of service, and finally to Chiron's cave where purpose is shaped into skill. We start with Helicon, where Perseus' severing of Medusa gives rise to Pegasus and the Hippocrene, the spring that nourishes the nine Muses. History, music, comedy, tragedy, dance, love poetry, hymns, astronomy, and epic become living conduits for meaning. Hesiod's insight that the Muses can speak convincing falsehoods as well as truth becomes our caution against dogma; ninth house wisdom is movement, not marble. At Delphi, we find the Omphalos, the eagle-eye view, and the Pythia's forked speech. Apollo's light and Dionysus' winter rule alternate, teaching us to hold both clarity and mystery. Prophecy arrives obliquely and unfolds over time, working on the imaginal mind that can carry insight back into life.On Olympus, the ninth house expands into ethics, law, and systems—the “we think” that shapes culture. Zeus' knowledge is not solitary; it's conjoined with Metis, the oceanic intelligence that tempers sky-high judgment. We explore the lure and limits of certainty and remember Ganymede's role as cupbearer: service as a path to perspective. Finally, we reach Pelion, where Chiron mentors heroes and healers—Jason, Achilles, Asclepius—grounding lofty aims in hands-on craft, medicine, and embodied practice. The fire-house arc aligns identity, joy, and purpose so that the tenth house can build the road our aim has set.Along the way, Ocyrrhoe's tale warns against revealing everything too soon; mystery gives meaning its depth. If Helicon inspires, Delphi questions, Olympus orders, and Pelion mentors, which mountain is yours? Press play to find an eagle-eye view that still honors the serpent's wisdom, and carry that vision into the work you offer the world. If this exploration sparked something, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review to help others find their way to the summit.*The above was auto-generated by Buzzsprout's AICover Art: Simon Vouet (1590-1649) The Muses Urania and Calliope, 1634 ca.Join the Newsletter! David Hutchens: Story Dash David Hutchens works with leaders around the world to find, craft, and tell their most urgent stories for the purpose of creating shared meaning, preserving culture, disseminating learning, and speeding change in organizations. He has taught the Storytelling Leader program at some of the most influential organizations, including NASA, Paypal, Loreal Paris, Cisco, Walmart, Google, and FedEx. He's written many books, including the Circle of the 9 Muses, Story Dash, and The Leadership Story Deck. When organizational change is happening, leaders need to be intentional about lining up with culture, especially if it's the time to shift that culture just a bit. We often do the logistics well, but we miss the power of both the human and emotional connections. In this episode, David and I discuss how story can help us make a meaningful shift. Key Points The organizations that are being intentional about culture are also being intentional about story. Getting beyond the logistics of changes and leaning first into humanity and emotion help people frame cultural shifts. Leaders go first. Embodied stories from leaders are surprising, counter-cultural, and repeatable. Asking for stories is rarely sufficient. Instead, invite stories through intentional prompts like, “Tell me about a time you felt more engaged, alive, and happiest in your work here.” Received stories are the ones told by employees. Adding an emotion word to an invitation such as, “What's a time you were proud?” often surfaces more genuine stories. David is now a Coaching for Leaders expert partner. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for October 18, 2025 is: muse • MYOOZ • verb When muse is used to mean "to think about something carefully or thoroughly," it is usually followed by about, on, over, or upon. The word can also mean "to become absorbed in thought," or "to think or say something in a thoughtful way." // He mused on the possibility of pursuing a master's degree. // "I could sell the house," she mused aloud, "but then where would I go?" See the entry > Examples: "On a crisp winter's day, 100-year-old Peg Logan sits in her favorite wingback chair in the living room of her Harpswell home. She flips through the pages of an oversized gardening book and muses about the vegetables she'll plant in the spring." — Connie Sage Conner, The Harpswell (Maine) Anchor, 27 Feb. 2025 Did you know? Muse on this: the word muse comes from the Anglo-French verb muser, meaning "to gape, to idle, to muse." The image evoked is one of a thinker so absorbed in thought as to be unconsciously open-mouthed. Those who muse on their pets' musings might like to know that muser is ultimately from the Medieval Latin noun musus, meaning "mouth of an animal"—also source of the word muzzle. The noun muse, which in lowercase refers to a source of inspiration and when capitalized to one of the sister goddesses of Greek mythology, has no etymological link: that word comes from the Greek Mousa. The ultimate Greek origin of the word museum translates as "of the Muses."

Museums are where we put our best stuff. An item might belong in a museum if it's rare, expensive, irreplaceable, or so ordinary and beloved it becomes extraordinary. A self-portrait by Vincent Van Gogh, a can of SPAM, a Romanian mud hut, a narwhal horn, a discarded red stiletto: They can all be found in a museum somewhere in the world. But exhibitions in museums are more than mere collections of striking items. Museums are vital institutions that take on the tasks of collecting, interpreting, and caring for artifacts so they can be experienced by the general public. The Ancient Greek word mouseion means ‘seat of Muses.' In classical antiquity, a museum was a place for contemplation and philosophical debate. When art moved from the open air, larger-than-life statuary of the Greco-Roman era to more intimate, human-scale paintings and objects, the definition of museum changed, too. It became a place to visit to see art — and anything placed in a museum became art. In this episode, we romp through the delightful hoarding behavior behind Renaissance Wunderkammers, learn about the first museum curator (spoiler: It was a woman!), and celebrate the majesty of the Louvre. Then we recommend books that transported us to museums around the world. Here are the books we recommend on the show: A Little History of Art by Charlotte Mullins A Parisian Cabinet of Curiosities: Deyrolle by Prince Louis Albert de Broglie Cabinets of Curiosities by Patrick Mauriès How to Enjoy Art by Ben Street Metropolitan Stories by Christine Coulson The Last Painting of Sara de Vos by Dominic Smith For more on the books we recommend, plus the other cool stuff we talk about, visit show notes at http://strongsenseofplace.com/podcasts/2022-07-18-museums Do you enjoy our show? Natalie is joined by Edith Hall and Nikita Gill to tell the stories of the Nine Earthly Muses, the most admired Greek women poets. They are Sappho, Myrtis, Corinna, Moero, Anyte, Nossis, Erinna, Praxilla and Telesilla. The idea was that these "divine voices" had been nurtured by the Muses themselves.Sappho's magnificent poetry offers a different perspective from Homer's. Her Helen of Troy feels no guilt at all about leaving her family to be with Paris. The poets provide funny, inventive and unexpected angles: Corinna writes about a contest between two local mountains to see which of them can play the best song on the lyre. The disgruntled loser, Mount Helicon, then rains down boulders like snow in displeasure. Praxilla writes drinking songs using her own meter and rhythms. But their work has been scorned and misunderstood by critics and Natalie wants to redress that.'Rockstar mythologist' Natalie Haynes is the best-selling author of 'Divine Might', 'Stone Blind', and 'A Thousand Ships' as well as a reformed comedian who is a little bit obsessive about Ancient Greek and Rome.Nikita Gill is an Irish-Indian poet whose work offers a shift of perspective which centres women in both Greek and Hindu myth as well as folklore. Many of us have our own muse – someone who’s inspired us in a profound way. Such people can be seen as the descendants of the original Muses – goddesses who inspired great accomplishments in music, dance, poetry – and astronomy. The Muses were the daughters of Zeus, the king of the gods of Olympus, and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. And they were the great grand-daughters of Uranus, one of the Titans – the gods who came before the Olympians. The Muse of astronomy was Urania – a name that means “heavenly.” She inspired people to look at the stars, to draw maps of them, and to create stories about them. She was also said to be able to see the future by “reading” the stars. In classical artworks, Urania often is shown looking skyward, and wearing a cloak that’s covered in stars. In some pieces, she also has a halo of stars. Because the stars were important for navigation and mapping in the ancient world, her symbols were a globe and a compass. In the 16th century, Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe named his observatory “Uraniborg” in her honor. A half-dozen other European observatories have also borne her name. And she’s in the official seals of the U.S. Naval Observatory and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. So the mythical Muse who inspired people to watch the sky in ancient Greece is still an inspiration today. Script by Damond Benningfield

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 22, 2025 is: bemuse • bih-MYOOZ • verb If you are bemused by something, you are confused or bewildered by it, and often also somewhat amused. // The contestant seemed somewhat bemused by the question, but gave the correct answer. See the entry > Examples: “The duck touched down on the surface of Raymond James Stadium just minutes before the Bucs scored their own touchdown. ... Many of the staff not assigned to work on the field were bemused by the sight of Anchor carrying a duck out of the stadium. They held cellphones and took pictures.” — Rick Stroud, The Tampa Bay (Florida) Times, 1 Jan. 2025 Did you know? In 1735, British poet Alexander Pope lamented, in rhyme, being besieged by “a parson much bemus'd in beer.” The cleric in question was apparently one of a horde of would-be poets who pestered Pope with requests that he read their verses. Pope meant that the parson had found his muse—his inspiration—in beer. That use of bemused harks back to a 1705 letter in which Pope wrote of “Poets … irrecoverably Be-mus'd.” In both letter and poem, Pope used bemused to allude to being inspired by or devoted to one of the Muses, the Greek sister goddesses of art, music, and literature. The lexicographers who followed him, however, interpreted “bemus'd in beer” as meaning “left confused by beer,” and their confusion gave rise to the “bewilder” sense of bemuse. The newer (and very common) use of bemuse to mean “to cause to have feelings of wry or tolerant amusement” is a topic of some dispute, as discussed here.
