How did Narendra Modi go from selling tea on railway platforms rise to become the leader of almost 1.4 billion people? He's a man with big ideas and an even bigger ambition for his country. But with a backstory full of both mythology and secrets, how much do we really know about his plans?
Sanna Marin became Finland's third female prime minister at just 34. Her coalition of women-led parties suggest that another kind of politics might be possible.Leading a country with a 1300km border with Russia, Marin finds herself navigating choppy diplomatic and economic waters for Finland, and making the case to other world leaders on taking a tougher line against autocrats.
Rishi Sunak is a man of many firsts. He's the first person of colour to become British PM, the first born to immigrant parents and the first practising Hindu to lead the country and at the age of 42, he's also the youngest person to take office in more than 200 years.Following a chaotic few years at the top of UK politics, Sunak's appeal may well be him playing the "calm, cool, competent card."
Israel's veteran leader, Benjamin Netanyahu has served as the country's prime minister longer than anyone else. Mental health is something we don't really talk that much about. And yet, with the increase in social media, a pandemic that caused the biggest disruption to our work and life, and of course the constant fears now of an impending recession, mental health is just something we all should be talking more about. We just don't seem to ever talk about mental health. And this is a problem.According to the World Health Organisation there are over 700,000 suicides each year. That number is simply heart breaking. And whilst there is no evidence that the pandemic cause an increase in suicide rates, the majority of governments, have seen a dramatic increase in mental health support services, and our workforce productivity has slowed with the burden of home schooling, juggling kids, losing jobs, and worrying about the future.Mental health issues affect so many of us. It's proposed that nearly 50% of the population suffer from one form of mental health illness in their life time. And so the feelings of anxiousness, a loss of productivity, a lack of self worth .... these are not uncommon, and yet for the vast majority of the population, we are simply not working as productively as we could. And maybe it's because we don't know how to address mental health issues in the workplace? My guest on this podcast, is Greg Muller. Greg is a successful businessman, has floated a company on the ASX, but more importantly, he is currently channeling his efforts toward organizations that are addressing significant social challenges.Greg co-founded a not-for-profit charitable foundation in 2020, The United Project Foundation focused on the early detection of mental health risks at work. His work, and the work of the United Project Foundation volunteers, is based around governance and training for company leaders to help facilitate a healthy, and happy, workforce. This is no easy task, but like my favourite peloton quote 'it's never easy, but it's always worth it.'Greg is also working with Nestd, who provide quality, architectural yet affordable, self-contained compact living solutions to the retirement, tourism and holiday home sectors. So basically think - quality prefabricated tiny houses. That's pretty cool, but what is cooler is, Nestd is a social enterprise of the Kids Under Cover charity where all the Profits from every Nestd home sold go to fund Kids Under Cover's life-changing work with youth who are at risk of homelessness. The NSW Government has announced plans to scrap the much-maligned stamp duty on property sales and replace it with an annual land tax. There are hopes it will ease the housing crisis, but whether it will reduce house prices is less certain.

When COVID-19 hit Victoria, schools, pubs and restaurants closed. The AFL season stopped after only one round. But the courts couldn’t shut down because crime didn’t stop. People were in custody awaiting trial. Family violence continued unabated, disputes needed settling, appeals needed to be heard, and trials needed to continue to provide justice for both accused and victims. As an essential service, the courts had to move quickly. This episode of Gertie's Law looks at how the Supreme Court of Victoria responded to the challenge of a global pandemic. Hear how judges maintained order when the courtrooms went virtual, why Coronavirus was mentioned regularly in bail hearings, and whether beef carpaccio is better if you use shallots. How many strength and conditioning coaches can say they have worked with three professional championship teams in one calendar year?Renowned strength and conditioning coach Greg Muller describes the challenges of integrating CHEK philosophies — for example diet and working in strategies — when working with high performance athletes and soldiers in this Living 4D episode. For Living 4D listeners, save 20 percent any of the products Greg and his partners sell at Pure Athlete by using the discount code pa20off at checkout.Learn more about Greg at the work he does with elite athletes by visiting his website, Lead The Pack.Show NotesGreg was the strength/conditioning coach for three professional rugby teams who won championships in 2001, all within a calendar year. (2:17)Paul convinced Greg very quickly that he had much to learn about training soldiers after they met in Christchurch, N.Z., 22 years ago. (5:32)Early in his career, Greg worked with a world class rugby player who believed working with leg weights would slow him down! (12:52)“The truth is what works.” (16:16)By looking at pictures on an office wall, Paul identified nine pro athletes on one team with severe atlas subluxations. (21:08)Paul worked with the Chicago Bulls often during their NBA Championship run, teaching them core conditioning and how to use the Swiss ball. (23:41)The key problem coaches have with working with elite athletes: A lack of good group leadership/management skills. (25:29)“Can you effectively design a strength and conditioning program for an athlete without knowing what their dream, goal or objective is?” (32:07)A former Oakland Raiders player told Paul he was obligated contractually to eat junk food at his training facility whenever cameras were present. (42:03)With physical skill sets among pro athletes being nearly equal, how they deal with mental health issues or don’t can be a difference-maker. (47:53)Coaches treating athletes like real human beings is transformational for both groups. (52:45)“All children are tasked with the unfinished lives of their parents.” (1:00:13)Why are degrees in engineering more valuable than those in philosophy or the social sciences?
