Rick starts the show by referencing the preceding rant edited out of the produced show. To wit: The live show took on the gazillion emails the guys have been getting about which celebrity wore what watch at the Met Gala. But onto something more important — grammar! Whether you could or couldn't care less, that is the question. Now, down to some actual content. David's latest “Grinding Gears” column is all about the gap between watchmakers and the consumers who don't know what they're looking at. This divide causes some problems, as David explains. Ariel has a lot to say about this, especially regarding value. Next up? Guess the Price of the Seiko! Then, onto a discussion of the Seagull Okeanos release, which also results in a discussion of pricing and tariffs. Ariel asks, “Why are tariffs invading our hobby?” And that is the question of the day. Kevin Roberts joins the foursome to discuss the latest from Doxa, Breguet, and other brands. Tune in to hear the latest.
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Brother Rick is conspicuously absent, so it's Ariel running the show alongside Ripley and David, who all know that to take a podcast vacation now would be to deprive listeners of the comfort of a discussion of their watch hobby straight to their ears. The guys get right to it with a look the new Venezianico Arsenale. Ariel proposes that when glasses take over smartwatches, the wrist will become available again for useless things like mechanical timekeeping. They veer off associatively into the rabbit hole of augmented reality. Getting back to basics, Ripley posits that when simplicity is done right, it can be more impressive than a busy dial because your attention is focused only on a few elements. Next up is the Rolex Sky-Dweller 226938 18k yellow-gold watch, which Ariel likes quite a lot, even though the dial has never sold him on "pretty." Ripley says he'd take it over a Nautilus or a Royal Oak. David agrees that it's a powerful watch in its complications and execution, but it's not right for his wrist (too heavy). Then the team discusses David's most recent "Grinding Gears" article, in which he asks "How long should watch brands milk historic achievements?" Next up is a look at the new Bulova Lunar Pilot "Blood Moon" watch, which David thinks is too large even in its smallest form, but everyone loves the story of this watch. Listen in for more. Speaking of small, the Hamilton PSR74, a modern LED with a retro look. David isn't sure he would spend upwards of $800 on this watch, though he's happy it exists. Then, they discuss the watch that the Venezianico Arsenale wants to be: the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph in Milano Blue. They end with a look at a deep dive into Bulgari's new watch manufacture and the Hands-On: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono 'Cycling Edition' And The Role Of Watches In Professional Cycling | aBlogtoWatch Maybe when Rick gets back, he'll bring Hit, Miss, Maybe with him.
Here are the show notes. Do you have a title yet? This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel, David, and Ripley, as per usual, and they start things off by discussing, um, time. How unusual! Well, the subject is the time changes in Europe and the U.S., which marginally has to do with watches, although, honestly, there's no segue except for a brief foray into those rare parts of the world that actually run on 30-minute time zone differentials. It all comes 'round. One of the more interesting sidebars that awaits you is convo about the failures of AI when searching for watch info. Take heed! The team gets down to business with an in-depth look at some of the watches we've covered this week, including the Glashütte Original Senator Cosmopolite watch. Next up, hear the guys' thoughts on the Patek Philippe Cubitus Watch, the brand's first new collection in 25 years. David is here in the flesh to discuss his most recent "Grinding Gears" feature article, and then they dip into the latest by Laurent Ferrier. They wrap up with the game we've all come to want, need, crave: Hit Miss Maybe. Check out ABTW on YouTube to catch up on the latest episodes of ABTWW, Hit, Miss, Maybe, video reviews, and more. In this week's episode I preach to you why Casa Azul (Tequila) is the real Holy Water. Following that sacrilegious segment I then discuss my very likely roommate in the after-life P.Diddy. From being sued for nasty crimes to being on of the most famous Black men in the world, Diddy has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week. Yet, his innocence or guilt is not what bothers me, but how people online are quick to double down on people (who they never have met) they don't like. I would tell you this episode gets better, but it probably doesn't. I need to express how I felt about the movie 'Downsizing' so you know have a rare segment of 'Grinding Gears' to close of the episode.Don't forget to subscribe and share to the podcast. Thanks!

In this first episode of 2023, Brad sits down with Career Strategist Ana Goehner. In this fantastic session they break down the trap of the quiet promotion, a situation that so many young people can find themselves in which ultimately can lead to quiet quitting. One of those issues is “quiet promotions” which sounds better than it is. Ana breaks down what this actually is and means for young employees. From her own experience and now working with others she covers what are the signs/symptoms that it may be too much Ana talks about how to understand the differences between investing in projects that will improve skills and provide longer investment in their future. Ana discusses what are great ways that our listeners can begin establishing boundaries Ana answers the question about if there are ways that quiet promotions can be turned into positives If our listeners suspect they've been quietly promoted she talks about what she would suggest addressing that with their supervisor in a positive way She talks about if there there a certain tipping point at which one would say it may be time to exit a position/company Ana provides her best piece of career advice that she could pass along to this next generation Guest Info: Ana Goehner is a bilingual career strategist and career development instructor.
