Benin is a geographically small country in West Africa, located between Nigeria and Togo. Since the 1990s Benin has earned a reputation as a strong and stable multiparty democracy. However, that has all changed in recent years and Benin is in the midst of democratic backsliding ahead of elections in which opposition parties have been sidelined. Guest: On the line with me from Benin is Jose Biaou, He is the spokesperson for the Alliance Patriotic de Nouvelle Espoir -- The New Hope Patriotic Alliance.
GUEST: On today's episode, I talk to Joel Muddamalle. He is the Director of Theology for Proverbs 31 Ministries and is a PhD student at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with an emphasis in theology. Joel and I discuss God's original intent for Adam and Eve (and subsequently us) when He placed them in the Garden within the context of His Divine rest. WE ALSO DISCUSSED: The tension and mystery of trusting in the finished work of Christ as wholly sufficient AND as a result of that, we work. "Biblical Theology" ... what it is and why everybody should want to study it. God's presence is rest! Rest and how it relates to our identity, our relationship with God, and our relationships with other people. (So freeing!) Progressive sanctification. The Gospel is like a river. Imago Dei: The image of God. It was not broken at the fall. What we need to discuss is the Status and Standard of the Imago Dei. QUOTES: "As we attempt to know God's Word, we will find it is knowing us." (Joel) "As a result of the fact that God has done the finishing work, I can partner with Him in the work He's assigned to me unto His glory that will ultimately be for my good." (Joel) "The Old Testament sets seeds for us to see come to fruition in the New Testament. Likewise, in the New Testament, we need to ask ourselves where are the echoes, allusions and development that has already been laid in the Old Testament." (Joel) "The mysteries of God are wrapped up in the special needs of my son." (Julie) CONNECT: To connect with Joel on... Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Muddamalle/. Aboutt our Guest On this episode of the podcast, we’re talking about making your marriage an adventure. Whether you’re preparing to go on an adventure with your spouse or just want to make every day a little more adventurous, you’re going to enjoy this episode. For the first time ever on the podcast, we’ve got a repeat guest—Dr. Matt Turvey, the director of Winshape Marriage. If you listen to the previous episode with Dr. Turvey, you’ll remember he mentioned number of different retreats they have at Winshape. One of their most exciting programs is called Marriage Adventures, and for this episode Matt draws on his experience leading those adventures to tell us a little bit more about how we can create more adventures in our own marriage. Interview Why do you think couples stop having fun when they get married? Life just happens. Kids happen. I love my kids, but they take a lot of work. Your schedule happens and you forget to prioritize fun. So much happens when you’re having fun with your spouse. You’ve got to be pretty intentional to make it happen. Why do couples feel guilty about leaving their kids at home? We want to be so connected so we sometimes think presence is connection. Sometimes you have to be more intentional in how you craft an experience with your kids or spouse. Sometimes parents focus too much on the kids and let the kids make too many decisions. If you give your kids the ability to make the decisions for your family, it’s probably a lot of stress on the kid. Give them choices they can handle: “Do you want to go here to eat or there to eat?” Sometimes we give our kids so much power and influence in the relationship that we lose power in the relationship. Why is it important for kids to see their parents having fun? My wife and I have done a pretty good job of getting away when we need to. It lets our kids know that we are safe, that mom and dad are a team and we’re going to last. What is the benefit for a couple to go on a retreat or vacation? Getting away reminds us what’s important. You got married for a reason; you had amazing experiences in the early days when you were dating and newlyweds. Getting away sometimes helps us get a little taste again of the honeymoon. It reminds you that you’re with the right person. Why is having fun essential to a marriage? Relationships don’t happen in vacuums, you have to have a relationship face-to-face. Your relationship will be a mirror of how much time and effort you put into it. Couples that spend good time together—whether that’s conversation, date nights, adventure, vacations—are building up that bank account. I can tell you from experience that when my wife and I have time away together we show up better for each other, for the kids, for the Lord. Can you tell us about the Marriage Adventures you lead? At Winshape Marriage, we do three main things—intensives for couples who want a breakthrough, retreats for couples who want a weekend away, and the adventures are the big experiences. They’re typically a week long and places anywhere around the world. These adventures have an element of journey and an element of challenge. Every day is crafted intentionally around your marriage. It’s an intentional time for you and your spouse to ask questions about each other, to have conversations with each other, and have experiences together you need to have. How have these adventures helped couples? A lot of the curriculum around our marriage adventures go back to ancient Christian principles around spiritual direction. The job of adventures is to get couples outside in creation to ask those important questions. We talk about six core principles: a vision for your marriage, truth in your marriage, having a posture of discovery, unity, constancy, and celebration. Who are the adventures for? They are not for couples in crisis. If you’re in crisis and you’re hiking a mountain in the Andes, that might push you over the edge. But if you’re in transition or you want to invest in your marriage, it’s a great way to invest in your marriage. We want couples to walk away different from the experience. What does psychological research say about adventures? When you get outside your schedule, your body has a biological reset. You get rested, even in the midst of challenge. You get that sense of disequilibrium and you want to figure it out. But we make it so you solve challenges together. When you’re in ‘the flow’, it’s kind of like a runners’ high. Imagine being in ‘the zone’ with your spouse. It helps you remember things better. Your one simple thing this week: When it comes to adventure, couples can just do it. Be intentional about being adventurous with your spouse even in daily things. Show Closing Thanks for joining us for the Married People Podcast. We hope you’ll subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and leave a review—they help us make the podcast better. For more from Dr. Matt Turvey, check out his Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. You can find more about Winshape Marriage on their website and the adventures on their site.

In today's very special episode of historic.ly we will be talking to about one of the most sanitized events in American history. Instead of myths of Pilgrims sitting down to eat a meal, we will learn the fate of the nations that the English settler colonists encountered: The Pequot wars were a campaign of genocide that is often overlooked. Matt Lech joins us to tell the dark real story of Thanksgiving and the birth of America. Later in the episode, Matt Lech shares some contemporary history about Donald Trump and his ongoing feud with the Wampanoag and how they were coincidentally declassified as a first nation in September 2018( something that hadn't been done in nearly 80+ years). Finally, Matt Lech shares us his favorite JFK conspiracy theory for the anniversary of his death tomorrow. [26:42] - Randall talks about digital content marketing strategies. [30:19] - Randall answers this week’s challenge question. This week, we discuss how an outbound, consistent, persistent communication can increase brand awareness and boost your business and make you, personally, better at your profession. Today’s Guest: On this episode of Manufacturing Marketing Matters, I’m joined by Jason Zenger. Jason is the president of Zenger’s and the podcast host of Making Chips. Jason is my first guest that is also a podcaster. Jason and I talk about the power behind consistent, persistent, and frequent communication with your target audience. Zenger’s sells tools, equipment, and shop supplies to manufacturing companies. He explains that his podcast may help him with sales for his company, but it also makes him a better leader, which also adds to his sales. In this conversation, you will learn how sharing expertise through a podcast helps your audience and helps your business. Highlights: [00:53] - Jason describes his responsibilities and roles with Zenger’s and describes Zenger’s business. [02:27] - Jason talks about his podcast, Making Chips. [04:12] - Podcasting is a time commitment, and Jason explains why he does the podcast. Jason explains that he sees the manufacturing as a vital component of the nation’s success. [05:20] - Jason talks about how the podcast benefits his business. [08:01] - Jason lists some of the benefits to your business by sharing expertise. He also explains how to set expectations for those benefits. [11:20] - The sales process involves a lot more people and departments now. Jason explains how he sees the roles broken down. [12:44] - Jason shares there is a current culture shift in the way business leaders become the personality behind the business. [14:54] - Jason provides some tips on managing time constraints with this changing culture shift. [18:22] - Jason talks about the differences between having a podcast or written content through blog posts. [19:47] - You may be wondering if taking on this type of venture to connect with your customers is worth it. Jason explains why he believes this difference is measurable. [21:04] - There’s a lot of unknowns with podcast statistics. Jason explains that despite the imprecise analytics, he feels that podcasting is a good investment. [24:00] - Jason answers this week’s challenge question. This question comes from the CEO of a company that manufactures medical devices. This person says their business has been flat and none of the strategies they have implemented has gained any traction. The sales team is more traditional, and this person wants to know how to transform the group by having them share their knowledge. Jason shares his thoughts and some tips on this situation. [28:10] Jason shares his takeaways from this conversation: Start seeing what you can do in order to elevate the manufacturing industry. There are a lot of very wise engineers and manufacturing professionals that are nearing retirement. There’s a lot of intellect that needs to be extracted from these individuals. Interview Questions: Question 1: Why do you do it? How does it benefit your business and/or your life? Question 2: I know a lot of our listeners wonder about this idea that you can grow a business without pitching the product. You’re a practitioner of this idea. Would you share with the audience how and why the concept of sharing knowledge and expertise can grow a business. Question 3: In the old days of the late 20th century and even early 21st century, the sales team owned the entire process from prospecting, to engaging, to closing the deal; the whole funnel or pipeline if you will. These days, most of us are in agreement that the marketing function is responsible for the top and middle of the funnel and sales is responsible for the bottom of the funnel. Which part of the company is out there sharing the information like a podcast or a blog? Is it Sales, Marketing, PR or some other department? How do you see it working in a practical sense? Question 4: It’s hard for manufacturers to devote the time and resources to a regular blog, podcast or webinar. Marketing and sales are usually very busy and running very lean. How does a manufacturer make the change, commit to a regular communication? Do they stop doing other more traditional activities? Get a loan to hire more people? Or is there another way? How big of difference can it make? Enough to switch resources from print ads or trade shows? Challenge Question: This week our challenge question comes from the CEO of a company that manufactures medical devices. Here it is “We’re a medical device company. Our business has been flat for the past 5 years. We’ve tried hiring more sales people, social media, content marketing and even blogging, but nothing seems to get any traction. My sales team is a bunch of dinosaurs (please keep this anonymous) who can’t figure out how to sell without demanding a rock bottom price. I read your book, The New Way to Market for Manufacturing, and I like the idea sharing expertise. We have 70 engineers on staff, how do I get them to share their knowledge and how do I transfer it to grow the business?” Would you like a complimentary marketing plan evaluation? This includes a 1-hour discover call, a 1-hour post-evaluation analysis, and a comprehensive look at your current strategies. Sign up at MMMatters.com/evaluation. If you have a challenge you’re facing or a problem, when it comes to sales and marketing, send it in as a challenge question, and I’ll pose it to one of our guest experts. With so many people focusing on New and Noteworthy, I wanted to see how many people use New and Noteworthy. So I asked people how they found new podcasts and here is what they said. The number one way was hearing the podcaster being interviewed on another podcast. This data is from 100 respondents from my email list, and from social media. So it order with the number one answer first it was I heard them interviewed on another podcast I searched the app for my topic I heard about it from a friend (word of mouth) Other The Internet (Google, Bing) Search The "other" responses were (and I'm summarizing) more or less "Word of mouth." Meaning the podcast host they were listening to mentioned them, or they heard about it on Twitter, Pinterest, etc. So if one of the top ways to grow your audience is to appear on other podcasts, how do you get booked on other shows? Well, we are going to dig into a smart way of setting yourself up to be booked on other podcasts. How To Get Booked as A Guest On a Podcast? OK, there must be some new course, or guru telling people how to contact people to be potential guests. Here is the format Tell people how much you love the show Tell them your story Tell them what topic you can talk about and how much my audience is going to benefit. Kiss the butt of the host and tell them what an honor it would be on the show. Drop a hint about the book or course you have, and how my audience would benefit. Promise to promote. They are missing one key ingredient GO AND LISTEN TO THE SHOW When you start off the email with “I have heard some fantastic things about your radio show, congratulations on your success!” Again, do some homework, or better yet, go by the book Stop Chasing Influencers: The True Path To Building Your Business and Living Your Dream Strategies For Securing a Guest Spot on Other Podcasts Search for your topic in iTunes, Google, etc. the idea is to see who is in the space. Who is the leader in your space? Search for their name in iTunes and see what podcasts they have appeared. You could search for New and Noteworthy as these people are probably more New than Noteworthy (and hungry for guests) Realize your interview will be evergreen. So if someone goes back to get the back catalog, you will be included. Find influencers in your niche: Look for books on your topic in Amazon, and in Amazon there is a "Customers also bought these items" area. You should probably see other authors names who are also involved with your topic. Make a list and check it twice When you find a podcast, look and see the date of their last episode. If they have podfaded, you might consider contacting them to see if you could take over the show. In general, people who haven't put out a show in months, are more than likely not coming back. Start a spreadsheet with the following information Website Address Twitter Handle e-mail address The average Twitter followers per user is 208. According to an article on Sumome you can look at Twitter followers using the following scale: H = Huge = 100k+ Followers L = Large = 10K+ Followers M = Medium = 1k+ Followers S = Getting Started = less than 1k followers Add these people to your list and make how you found them (they will want to know). Obviously, put if they have a podcast or not. If they don't, you may still want to develop a relationship with them so they can appear on YOUR podcast. Getting Ready For the Initial Contact So to determine if you are a good fit for their show, you need to listen to it. There is no way around this if you want to do it right. Does this podcast focus on people who would enjoy your topic? If yes, then we need to get ready to contact them. If not, then we won't focus on them now. Don't Try to Close the Deal Instead of sending an email, and asking to come on the show. Why not follow them on Twitter and retweet one of their tweets? Why not leave a comment on the blog. The beginning of every relationship begins with a conversation. This way when you do contact them, you won't be quite the stranger. Honesty is Refreshing See if you can get an introduction. See who is following this person on twitter or LinkedIn and see if you can get an introduction. Instead of telling me great my show is, why not be honest? Tell me you just discovered the show, and tell me why - specifically - in a way that proves you listened - you would be a good fit for my show. Realize the podcaster is going to have to figure out if you're going to bring value, and if you're a good fit. If you've done your homework, you can answer that question for them (and save them time). You could send an email with something along the lines of "Hey (name), I just got done listening to (episode name) and I have to tell you (specific item that proves you listened) I wanted to let you know as someone who has been involved with (the topic of the podcast) I'm really enjoying the show. " If you want them to take a look at you, write about their episode on your blog and link to it. Then send them a link to the post. Now you're not just a listener, you're a content creator, and I'm pretty sure they are going to click the "ABOUT" button when they visit. Think of this as "Courting" your potential future interview. Why Should I Take This Much Effort For One Interview? You can “Spray and Pray” that someone will respond. Spend time talking to people who (apparently) will have anybody on their show. Waste their audience time, and your time as well. The good news it didn’t take any effort to pull this off. The bad news is it isn’t very effective. You’re busy, but not productive. There is a difference. Don’t confuse the two. The other way of doing this is to find a show with the topics you want to talk about, and listen to them and see if you might be a good fit. If you think there is, then leave a comment on the post you listened to and bring value. See if the host replies (you want a host who is connected with his/her audience). Then later, after you listen to a second episode you might consider sending them another email. Talk about some details to prove you listened and bring some value to the conversation. Maybe you have details that they didn’t share in the episode. Maybe you have a resource that could be of value. Bring something to the table that will benefit the host. When the host benefits, you benefit. Why? Because as a podcast host, we serve our audience. We want our audience to benefit. When you deliver value, the host will want you to do the same thing with their audience. Why don’t people do this? Because contacting people on a personal basis takes TIME. Time is something most of us don’t have. Why don’t we have more time? Because we’re BUSY talking to people that aren’t a good fit. Because we’re drafting the perfect form letter to blast to hundreds of potential podcasters. Stand Out in the Crowd If you want to stand out and have people BEGGING YOU to come on the show, do your homework. Write an email that shows you took the time to listen, and you’ve already done the work for the host. They don’t have to figure out if you’re a good guest for the show; you’ve already done it for them. You will STAND OUT. It’s Not Spray and Pray. It’s all about Relationships. Relationships take time. If you’re too “busy”, stop using Spray and Pray, and start working smarter. Start standing out from the crowd by doing your homework and find podcasts that fit your topic, and success will come your way. Podcast Mentorship Year Long Podcast Course Is this you?
