In Episode 69, two Canadian market structure experts, Doug Clark, Head of Equity Product Design for TMX Group, and Rob Gouley, Equity Trading Principle, OMERS, join the podcast to dig in on all things Canadian equity market structure. The conversation starts with a quick elevator pitch on what are the key differentiating features about trading in Canadian shares versus other market models, including the troublesome growth in F Class trading of Canadian shares in the US OTC market. Rob provides his perspective on venue innovation in Canada, and also gives a positive take on the TSX's revised market on close mechanism, which now looks and feels a lot like Nasdaq's US MOC mechanism. Doug provides a 411 on both Alpha X in Canada, and the recent launch of AlphaX US, and Rob outlines the better late than never CSA response to the SEC's market structure rule changes. The two speakers end up in a thought exercise on what Canada's market would look like if Canada banned OPR and Fair Access. This podcast was recorded on January 24, 2025. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa's cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I've photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I've tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that's the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world. True Pearce wears many hats. He's a practicing attorney, the editor of Guns America and Hunt 365, a competitive shooter, firearms instructor, Cabela’s Pro Staff, and avid hunter. He’s a sponsored 3 gun shooter but has also competed in other disciplines including long range F Class, USPSA, and IDPA. With a new president in office and a national ammo shortage, these are scary times for responsible gun owners and advocates. In this episode, True and I tackle the question of how we can have well informed conversations about guns in this country with people from both sides of the aisle. I couldn't ask for a more knowledgable guy to discuss this with, and I hope our fellow gun advocates take his advice to heart. F Class and PRS shooter Erik Cortina joins AHP to discuss shooting sports in Texas, reloading for your rifles, using quality components, thinking outside the box, and his top tips for reloading with consistency and accuracy.
I told yall I was going to deliver, and what I delivered was 3 hours of knowledge coming straight to your ear holes. Erik was an absolute pleasure to have on. I learned so much and left me wanting to learn more. 3 hours just wasn't enough. Erik will be making at LEAST one more appearance on the Just F'n Send It Podcast to discuss the winning mindset. Who better to give us the run down than a champion?? Tonight's episode was super centered on reloading and the dogma that we all thought was doctrine. Check out Erik's free Youtube page for tons of knowledge, and subscribe to his Patreon page for the real deep dives into reloading, and learn how a champion does it. He emphasizes the fast, accurate, and efficient way to reload. https://www.youtube.com/c/ErikCortina/videos

This week Mike McGivern is joined by Mark Adams, Gary Deperry, Joel Classen, Al Schieve, and Jerry Petitgoue to talk about their enshrinement into the WBCA Hall of Fame Class coming up soon, and more!
Our original intent was to have just a podcast about the sport of F-Class shooting, but when you get these brainiacs (Ian Klemm and Niles Richardson) talking about their obsession... er... "Hobby" you better believe it's going to turn into a full on long range shooting information assault to the brain. Fact of the matter is, in F-Class, the only thing that matters is long range accuracy - and when we say "Accuracy", we're talking about sub-MOA groups on paper at 1000 yards with .308's. Every single aspect of an F-Class competitor's game is completely dialed in for long range accuracy. We talk about the guns, their bipods, wind, mirage, barrel harmonics and the special scopes F-Class competitors need for their rifles. Ian even goes so far as to tell us how much his rifle has moved prior to the bullet leaving his 30 inch barrel. Just a simple equation involving acceleration, terminal velocity, moment of inertia of the rifle and coefficient of friction of the bipod and rifle on the ground. Kindergarten stuff. Prepare to learn more about ultra-precision long range shooting that you ever thought possible! As always - let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

Frank has a ton of knowledge when it comes to high quality rifle barrels and it was great to have him on to discuss the ins and outs of the manufacturing process! keep an eye out for the next show we do with Frank because he has so much knowledge that we ended up running out of time and are going to be setting up a second show to cover what we didn't get a chance to talk about. Attached is to this email is a picture of a 7mm F Class barrel I told you about. It is chambered in .284win. At 100 rounds the barrel started having accuracy issues. The picture of the barrel is at 800 rounds only. He cleaned it after every 25 rounds fired. Bore should measure .277" x .284". It now measures .279" x .2855". You can see how the bristles of the brush are dragging up the sides, over the top and down the other side of the rifling/lands. The brush is trying to rotate with the twist but doesn't always. The lands stick up so they always take the worst of the beating when it comes to cleaning damage. you can find the link to the bore guides here http://www.accurateshooter.com/gear-reviews/lucas-custom-bore-guides/These are links to the two videos we talk about in the showhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUm_YXzJJOUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XSkhtcAL1w Precision Rifle Media is supported by Patriot Valley Arms. A huge thanks to Jason Nessling from the SA F-Class team who came to chat with us about reloading. Was great to see the crossover and differences between different styles of shooting. Big thanks to STS Targets for sponsoring this episode. www.stsonline.com.au
Foundations of Amateur Radio For a long time I've struggled with the way we differentiate between the different license classes in Amateur Radio. In Australia, the three levels of license are Foundation, Standard and Advanced. In the United States, they're called the Technician, General and Extra. In the United Kingdom they're called Foundation, Intermediate and Full. These naming conventions convey that more and more is gained as you progress though the ranks, but they also convey that you are incomplete if you're not at the top of the food chain with an Advanced, Extra or Full license. This naming convention is not universal. The license classes in the Netherlands are called the N or Novice Class and F Class, but generally they're referred to as the N and F classes and in Germany they're called Class A and Class E. Of course if you're making a complaint about what something is called then coming up with a new name is one of the first things that you'll be asked and that has stopped me from even beginning to make this observation out loud, let alone spend some time talking about it. Today I have a response to the question: "Well, if you don't like what it's called, what would YOU call it?" Here's what I came up with, if we're staying with three license classes, the three names I'd adopt are Low Power, Medium Power and High Power. The names are chosen to distinguish the power levels associated with the license which then also allows for another radical idea. What if everyone had the exact same privileges and the only difference between the licenses was how much power you could use? This in turn would require a person who moves from one power level to the next to learn specific skills. For example, RF safety with Low Power is completely different from High Power. Antenna efficiency has a completely different impact on a high power radio, than it does on a low power radio. Interacting with high voltages doesn't happen with low power but you can bet your RF burn that it happens with high power. EMR, or Electro Magnetic Radiation issues were the single largest hindrance to introducing more than 400 Watts into Amateur Radio in Australia. What if getting a High Power License came with a built-in EMR module and that the energy was built-into the licence system? If all licenses were the same, except for the power output, it would mean that all Amateurs could experiment with new modes and invent new things and the only hindrance to such experimentation would be the imagination of the person using the radio. We have artificial boundaries between the various classes of license which bear no relation to reality. In my opinion the boundaries hinder the progress of an amateur and external factors such as the changing of the solar cycle impact different license classes in different ways depending on when they got their license. Skills that are gained could be gathered as points or modules and could incrementally allow the progression to higher power. Of course, 100 Watts on 160m does not have the same impact from an EMR perspective as 100 Watts on 10 GHz, but I'm not advocating that the Low Power license is limited to 10 Watts across all bands, nor am I saying that a Medium Power License should have 100 Watts on every band. But there's no reason that the power level cannot be proportional to the amount of energy involved, rather than a fixed power output at the transmitter. For my money, lets ditch this Foundation, Standard and Advanced system and move to Low Power, Medium Power and High Power. Who's with me? I'm Onno VK6FLAB
