What's your opinion on voice notes when you're sending messages to friends, family or business contacts?   All the major messaging apps - including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and even Linkedin let you hold down the mic button, record a message with your voice and then send it off.   It can help with productivity - for example if you're out a walk and want to explain something to someone, it'll likely be quicker to say it than to type it.   But perhaps it's not so convenient for the person on the receiving end - they can't ‘skim read' your message but have to listen to it in real-time.   So, if you are sending a voice note - get straight to the point and keep them concise.   Let me know what you think on the hashtag DigitalMinuteUK.   And here's one for musicians who might be looking to do a spot of busking - perhaps you're a student looking to top up your income.   The iRig 2 Mobile Guitar Interface lets you plug your guitar into your smartphone where you can record using software like GarageBand, or add all sorts of effects with the likes of the Amplitude app.   You can then output the new sound straight into an amplifier - so instead of carrying several effects pedals around with you, you just need a tiny box and an app on your phone.

Fun and games with this episode, it went out live on 25 March 2021 at 19h00.  Straight out the blocks, there were problems with the station stream, I had no music playing as I prepared to patch into the schedule.  This led to a lot of unnecessary fault finding on my side.  Once the show started it came through but, on my intro, the microphone that was fine before the show suddenly didn't work.  Fortunately, I realised that the iRig has a battery and that sorted out the problem.  We kicked off with Leslie West and 'Nothing's Changed' off his wonderful Unusual Suspects album.    Next up Ace Frehley with Cold Gin and Black Sabbath with Snowblind,  tales of the excesses of old school rockstars ;-).There is a lot of new stuff out so we caught up with some of it, more of Alice Cooper's latest Detroit Stories, Walking Papers'  The Light Below, and a track off the brand new Smith / Kotzen album which gets released about 8 hours after this show.  The highlight for me was the new Myles Kennedy track, album to be released in May, the pre-release single 'Ides of March' is amazing, guitar work all over it, I think Myles is going to deliver an amazing album here.  The show had a number of couplings two tracks about crying, two tracks by guys called Tom, two tracks called Hold On, the usual things we do.  I enjoyed the Punk part of the show, good to hear the Jam with Going Underground and a first time for Gary Numan.  As usual, we ran out of time.  Artists featured:  Leslie West, Ace Frehley, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Motörhead, Michael Monroe, Chickenfoot, Jimmy Barnes, Alice Cooper, Texas Hippie Coalition, Audioslave, Seether, The Jam, Gary Numan, Sex Pistols, Warrior Soul, Machine Head, Guns 'n'  Roses, Halestorm, Danko Jones, Live, 12th Avenue, The Color Blew, Myles Kennedy, Smith / Kotzen, Judas Priest. VIDEO Switcher Studio is the system that is currently used in Adam's church and Brandon's church. Next step with physical cameras would be an ATEM Mini Pro ($600) that has 4 video inputs and audio. Also, ATEM Studio ($1,000) with 8 inputs / SDI connections HDMI has limitations. SDI is broadcast/standard. Joshua recommends thinking long term (next 3 to 5 years) and purchase gear that is scaleable. Cameras- Canon or Panasonic 4k options ($1,200-$2,000) Canon XA45 - 4K is about $2,000 PTZ is low profile, but not recommended. AUDIO "The most important thing about video streaming is the audio." Get your audio from the board using an interface like iRig. You should use the Aux out from the board or bus mis, not the main house mix. Things sound different in the sanctuary versus on someone's phone, tablet, or TV. It needs to be a different mix. Monitor it with headphones and solo out the mix you put the live stream on. Most large churches have a separate mixer to get the audio to live stream. Best option is to use an AUX from the board, set everything to POST FADE anduse headphones to monitor the mix. *** This is part one of this interesting conversation. We talked about on demand videos and live videos. On this episode we talk about ways that you can create and publish your videos, so they’ll attract more listeners. First: Video Content (I don’t know what to say in front of the camera) Video content Make sure you spark curiosity posting a question or telling a story; Tell your audience how these questions will be answered in the podcast episode;Keep it short, always add CTA, add subtitles, and stick to a single message. One story, one emotional impact, and one take away;Include one CTA- Access podcast episode here. Subscribe. Leave a comment;It’s okay to write it all out at the beginning and read script from a teleprompter. Second: Set the StageSetting the stage to record your videos requires you to pay attention to three things: light, noise, and background set up. Light. Make sure you use a space where there is a lot of light. Also invest in good lighting. Noise. Pay attention to the noise in the area you’re recording your videos. Noise doesn’t only affect the quality of the video but can also be a distractor and a stressor for you. Background. This is a very important thing to consider. Everything that goes into your video adds to the viewers experience. You, the way you deliver the message, and also the background of your video. Make sure that your background is bright or in a light color. Third: Video Equipment You don’t have to start by using professional video equipment. You can simply start by using your smartphone and then as you progress and want to continue to improve your video production you can work your way through these 4 steps. Step OneJust your phone. Most smartphones have very decent cameras and convenient features. The microphones on smartphones actually aren’t too shabby either. Step Two Beefing up the audio with accessories. To give your videos an extra punch and make them stand out more you’ll want to start improving the audio on the video. There are many ways to do this by adding some accessories to your phone. iRig is a popular company that offers many solutions. They have many microphone choices and adapters that plug into your phone directly. Step ThreeImprove audio even more by recording it separately and syncing it up later in your video editing software. Make sure your audio and video are both in record and then say something like “promo video take 3” and clap. Now your video clip and your audio recording are both easily identifiable and can be synced together in any video editing software. Step FourUpgrade to a better camera. You may never need to get to this step. This however can really help the professional look of your videos and is especially a consideration if you are planning on growing a YouTube Channel. Fourth: Technique, confidence, deliverance, and tone. ConfidenceThis goes for men and women. Make sure that before you get in front of the camera you’re feeling and looking your best. Get ready as if you were going on a date with someone you care about. Do your make up, fix you hair, wear your favorite outfit. Do anything you need to so you can get an extra confident boost. And in fact, this is a date with people you do care about, YOUR AUDIENCE. Confidence also comes from your message. Whether you’ve been podcasting for a while or you’re just starting with your show, there is no one that knows more about your show and episodes than you. Be confident in your message. Be ready to make multiple takes at the beginning. Making mistakes and screwing up is part of the learning process. Deliverance Start with short videos for social media. Instagram stories, short IG tv, promotional videos for your Facebook or Linkedin page, or your Facebook group.Be and act as yourself. If you move your hands a lot when you speak, embrace it and use it in your videos. Don’t try to incorporate or cut off gestures. TechniqueLighting is your friend. If you’re making videos holding your phone stand by a window or get a clip-on light for your smartphone. If you’re using a professional camera or putting your smartphone on a tripod, make sure that the light is shining on you face. Also, if you’re holding the phone make sure that there is a good distance between the phone and your face. Find your attractive angle.ToneYour audience and the subject of your show set the tone of your videos. Fifth: Video Editing Software Trim. This is the simplest and really involve no editing other than trimming the start and end point of you video clip from your phone. Here you just take a few takes and get one performance of your video down. Phone Video editing APPSThere are many different apps that you can get for your phone that allow you to combine multiple clips together, add music, add visual effects, etc. Video Editing Software. Getting behind a computer is really the only way to go for editing video. It saves you tons of time and headache and allows you many more options. There are numerous video editing apps that you can use on your computer. Then of course there’s the adobe products, with the main video editor being adobe premier. Six: Choose Platform- Remember that the video format may change depending on the platform - Website- Instagram - Twitter- Facebook (Group or Page) Seven: Automatic video creators This can be a good option if you don’t feel comfortable talking in front of the camera.
