Being profitable as an artist doesn't necessarily mean you need to do more. Sometimes it's about doing less by being discerning about what you take on and where you invest your energy. This is extremely difficult to do when you are trying to show and sell your art. You want to do more. To add new income streams and the latest marketing platforms. The ads and social media posts want you to do more. But more is exhausting. My guest for this episode knows how to get what she wants without doing more. Jill Soukup, who has been a student and client of mine over the past decade, is dedicated to becoming a better artist. She methodically improves her work to make sure that her career, her business, and her life are what she wants them to be. In this conversation, Jill and I discuss how and where she sells her work, how teaching fits in with her income plan, how she makes sure she remains profitable, and why it's important for her to keep things simple. Highlights   Jill's transition to full-time artist and where she shows and sells her art today. (1:51) The inspiration behind Jill's Western-themed art. (5:56) Selling on Instagram is changing the dynamics of Jill's work. (8:39) Logistics of selling prints and giving customers what they want. (11:34) You have to spend money to make money. (15:25) The strategies that allow Jill to get work done without working harder. (19:31) For Jill, doing less has resulted in even more success in her art business. (23:47) Dedication to your craft and honing your skills is the hallmark of an exceptional artist. (29:10) Teaching, raising prices, and decreasing her painting output keeps Jill's income steady. (30:45) Bookkeeping details and how Jill knows she is profitable. (37:24) Why is simplifying so important in Jill's business — and life? (40:56) Insights from Jill's typical work day and what she's working toward now. I wasn't making any decisions because I had too many decisions to make.” — Jill Soukup “At that moment I realized what really was important to me, and that all of the other things on my list were not even necessary.” — Jill Soukup “Everything I chose to do had to meet one of my three goals and it just simplified everything. And it was such a beautiful thing.” — Jill Soukup   About My Guest Jill Soukup was born in Buffalo, New York. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Colorado, where she still resides. Jill's affinity for horses as a young girl resulted in countless drawings and studies of them, which made for a strong drawing foundation. As a teen, she started a pet-portrait business, acquired jobs painting murals, and designed logos for local organizations. Jill graduated from Colorado State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. There, she received awards for illustration and design and worked as an illustrator and designer for the university. She initially pursued a career in graphic design while continuing to paint part time. After 11 years as a designer, she made the switch to full-time painting. “As they [children] continue to grow, they keep building these little blocks on top of each one. And that's what enables them to be able to do these more complicated skills as they get older.” The Student Fitness Experts podcast is a very intentional venture that aims to create a playful movement to help students grow up with inner confidence and self-awareness and a healthy body and mind.  In Part One of the Fundamental Movement Skills Series, Karen and Farah explain fundamental movement skills and their importance in a child's growth. They explore how sibling relationships, exposure, and environment could play a role in shaping a child's movement skills and why, as parents and coaches, we need to familiarize ourselves with the three blocks of FMS in children. We also dig into understanding muscle memory building and how to help your kids in the process even if they're having a hard time fitting in! Tune in to integrate fundamental movement skills in your child's play curriculum and set them up for ultimate success! TimeStamps: [01:34]  What are some fundamental movement skills?  [02:43]  Why is it important to build fundamental movement skills at certain stages of life? [10:12]  Familiarizing yourself with the fundamental movement skills [11:35]  Why is it important to build movement skills in children? [15:53] The age when muscle memory starts to get hardwired Quotes: “As they [children] continue to grow, they keep building these little blocks on top of each one. And that's what enables them to be able to do these more complicated skills as they get older.” “If we could teach kids how to move in all different directions, and then teach coaches the importance of why we should be doing this, then, maybe we wouldn't have so many injuries down the road.” “If you're familiar with these building blocks of these skills, and you're looking at rotation and coordination and balance, then you can take a step back, and you can say, does this child have those skills? Are they lacking in an even simpler way of moving? That's why they're struggling.” “If they're [fundamental movement skills] not properly developed, or mastered, there is a likelihood that they will have more trouble academically and behaviorally.” “Understanding these environmental factors, our vision or hearing or something like that can also be one of the issues. It is really helpful to be able to understand your students and what they need and be able to support them.” “They can learn how they're moving, understanding their body, how they're moving it through space, and then have that confidence to take on all these different skills. So that when you want to go into teaching them more specialized, be more specific, go into the complex skills.”

When you invest in the team of people you work with, it can make everything run smoother and even help grow your business. Today Matt and Garrett discuss what it means to build your team, grow your team, and invest in your people. You can do this monetarily by providing training and education for your employees, but you can also invest in them internally by building connections and taking the time to understand their goals and what they're hoping to accomplish. When you hire a new person, you're not just paying them to do a job - you're giving them an opportunity to achieve their hopes and dreams. Creating connections makes people excited to work with you, and want to go above and beyond to help the business succeed. Our hosts share their favorite examples of team-building rituals and activities that help colleagues relate on a deeper level, allow their personalities to shine through, and create an atmosphere of fun together. These experiences can also help people tap into skills they didn't even know were there. Matt and Garrett talk about having the “Magic Wand” conversation with your people, how truly knowing them can enhance your client experience as well, and why investing even a little bit of time and money into your team can go a long way and motivate top producers to stick around long-term. This isn't an expense - it's an investment. And if people perform better because they love being part of your team, that is absolutely an investment you want to double down on. You need to always ask yourself whether you are investing in your people to make their world, their job, their experience better and show that you care about them This will make your team want to work together and stick around long-term It's much better to invest in the people you have now than to continually hire new people   Quotes: “As we coach people, and as we work with them, we watch them bring team members and we watch them grow.” “Whether it's just an assistant, a transaction coordinator, or whatnot - even all of your vendors that you work with...photographers to contractors to home inspectors - all of these pieces, we need to invest in them. And we need to help grow because it helps everything work better.” “When I look at investing in your people, I look at the same way we look at our clients, when we're helping people buy and sell, we ask a lot of questions, we talk about what their dreams are, what they would like to accomplish. And that's missed out a lot when you look at companies and teams.” “You're not just hiring somebody to do a job. Yes, on paper, that's what it is...But you're also providing, as an employer, so to speak, an opportunity for this person to achieve their hopes and dreams.” “Investing can show up a lot of different ways.” “These are team building investments that take time and energy, there's some money involved. But it's that thing that brings that group closer together. It's what makes people fight to want to be in the Mulberry office, because it brings in a group of people that are all like-minded, having a good time, enjoying this business. And that's what you want.” “It was hysterical. Every coach walked out of that room saying this was an incredible way of seeing each other's personalities.” “That's the beauty with building a team, is when you do something like that, you're going to watch skills come out of people that you didn't realize were there, or they were stronger than what you thought, by creating that environment.” “If you have somebody who can perform better, because they love being a part of the team, that is an investment that we need to double down on.” “Making sure that you all understand who each other is really opens a lot of doors.” “This goes beyond job roles as well. If you're investing in the education, development of your assistant, of your team, members of your staff - if you're an owner, these things can have a ripple effect in terms of their performance and their happiness.” “When you're not giving in and investing, those people don't want to show up for work in the long run. They don't want to step up and go above and beyond, to go do something outside the box for the sake of the company… You can very clearly see a company where they have not invested in their people.” “As a business owner, take a look around at who your people are, pay attention to them and figure out - What is the best thing I can do to invest into them to make their world, their business, their career, whatever it is, better? You will have longer standing employees and partners in this business.” “There's a whole financial component to this, to the cost of hiring new people… It's way better to invest in the people that you have.” “Your ROI on the investment into your current people is going to be way bigger than finding new people.”   Links: www.TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Email us at    TSW@TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Leave a voicemail at (208) MY-NINJA   Ninja Selling www.NinjaSelling.com @ninjasellingofficial Ninja Coaching: www.NinjaCoaching.com @ninja.coaching Ninja Events www.NinjaSelling.com/Events  Garrett garrett@ninjacoaching.com @ninjaredding Matt matt@ninjacoaching.com @matthewjbonelli   The Ninja Selling Podcast Facebook Group

The Future Foundation of Orthodontics Episode #319 with Dr. Drew McDonald Orthodontics is more than just straightening teeth. And today's guest, Dr. Drew McDonald, explains how foundational knowledge of patients' issues can lead to more successful treatment and happier patients. Kirk Behrendt and Dr. McDonald talk about the interconnectedness of airway and joints in ortho and how interdisciplinary understanding can help patients long term. Don't be led astray by the esthetic side of things! For more on the importance of foundations, listen to Episode 319 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Look under the surface — the foundation — in patients' issues. Airway and jaw joints influence structure, which leads patients into the ortho chair. Ortho is more than straightening patients' teeth. Don't get lost in the esthetic side of things. Straight, white teeth isn't the endgame. Understand who's in your chair so you can give them the best treatment. Quotes: “As an orthodontist, we see patients with teeth that don't fit together, teeth that are crowded, whatever it might be. But at the end of the day, when we start peeling back the layers, we've got to know where that came from. And what we're starting to understand, it seems like more and more every day, is that the airway side of things, the TMJ side of things, the growth and development, that those two factors, especially, really influence and create an orthodontic patient. Somebody with a bad bite and bad teeth, under the surface, there's an airway issue, or a joint issue, or both, a lot of the times.” (06:09—06:41) “If we understand the foundation of our patients from a joint standpoint, from an airway standpoint, from even cervical, spine things, and the bone around their teeth, then we know what's going to be successful and stable long term because we're addressing the under-the-surface things that got the patient into our chair.” (11:45—12:03) “The other nightmare of orthodontists is relapse. So, if we can understand the foundation of our patients and what got them, under the surface, into our orthodontic chair, then we set ourselves up for better success, stability, and ultimately, a happier patient.” (12:34—12:48) “Whenever I, quite honestly, wanted to be an orthodontist, I wasn't thinking about jaw joints or airway stuff. And some of that wasn't really a big part of what we were taught in school. And ultimately, I've gotten to know a lot of very influential people in my life who have taught me so much about the foundational side of joints, of airway. Dr. Mark Piper, he's a big role model of mine. Jim McKee, in terms of the joints. They're not orthodontists. Those dudes, they put something in my head that did not come from orthodontic residency. But as I went back to patients after seeing them talk, I go, ‘This is my everyday patient. All of these Class II patients that all have clicks and pops, that's no coincidence.'” (13:26—14:15) “The things that can lead orthodontists astray is that we start thinking about the cosmetic side, the esthetics, that that's all the endgame is for these patients.” (16:48—16:56) “I think it's easy in ortho, sadly, at this point in the game, to get led astray. And I will say, it's a frustration of mine to see — and I'm not saying anything negative of the people that you see all over certain social media stuff. I'm just saying we have a better story to tell. And I think that the story to tell is that we can do more than straight teeth. It's, we are the people most equipped to do more than straight teeth, and recognize it, and help people structurally.” (17:21—17:47) “You can't just diagnose something and tell somebody they need to do something. You have to be able to motivate them. And ultimately, you have to know why that person's in the chair too.” (19:50—20:00) “I really do think that our place in the world as orthodontists is going to be involved in multidisciplinary health-related things. And again, I know that the

Food addiction is typical after a betrayal. When we are misusing food, we are also betraying our own inner guidance. But Debbie Lichter, an expert on food addiction and embodiment, knows from experience that there is a way out of this hole.  In this episode, Debbie tackles the importance of knowing what is driving you towards food addiction and trusting your inner guidance system so that you can restore an internal sense of ease and comfort within yourself.   About Guest/Topic Debbie Lichter is the founder of Freedom Embodied Academy. Over the past decade, she has devoted herself to helping women worldwide overcome their food addiction and obsession and get their confidence back so that they can authentically shine their light.   She navigated her own path to freedom from food and drug addiction, codependency, severe anxiety, and self-doubt. Today, she uses her signature Congruence Code™ system to help women break free and stay free from their addictions so they can feel lighter, speak confidently, and be comfortable in their own skin. In This Episode Who is Debbie Lichter? [0:10] What is inner guidance? [1:56] What do we do when we always assume that people know better than us? [5:57] How do we remove ourselves from the guilt, binging, and obsessing cycle? [13:13] What does it feel like to be on course and off course when it comes to listening to your intuition? [17:49] What does trusting yourself with food look like? [25:24] …and many more Quotes “As long as you're focused on the food, it's a surface strategy. It's not actually addressing what's driving you to food in the first place. And the pathway of freedom from food addiction, food obsession, binging, you know… the pathway is to be able to address what's driving you to the food in the first place.”  [15:12] “The actions and behaviors are like leaves of the tree and what's driving those are your attitudes, those are the branches of the tree. What's driving those branches are the limiting beliefs and the delusions that are driving that. And the root is the fear.”  [16:11] “What shows up on our plates is a direct reflection of what we are wrestling with internally.” [22:14] “Freedom—where you only eat when you're hungry or you stop eating when you're full, where you feel intuitively guided by what to eat, where you can go to a social situation or a restaurant and be present with the people and not be stressing out about what you'll eat—this kind of freedom is absolutely possible for you.”  [31:04] “It starts with a willingness, a willingness to not know. A willingness to set aside everything you think you know about what you need, about how it is, about what you got. You know, just set it all aside and open yourself to consider, am I open to an entirely different approach?” [31:27] Resources Mentioned Food Addiction Self-Assessment Quiz PBT Podcasts Post Betrayal Syndrome Quiz PBT Institute Membership Community Trust Again: Overcoming Betrayal and Regaining Health, Confidence and Happiness Trust Again Free Gift

Listen, can we stop with the Stepping? Steppin out … Step Parents … Step Children. I am a firm believer that when you bring a family together the word Step should not be in your vocabulary at all. But how about this, MEN stop with the jumping from women to women. Gosh it is tiring, do you know that? Just think about the future. Think about your children’s wedding. The seating arrangement is a nightmare. Okay let’s talk about your funeral, which wife will be declared...sigh I can’t deal. Just stop Stepping lol. On a serious note, this conversation is about a multi racial family and a blended family. Lot’s of lessons. Vanessa Ungapembe is the first born in a family of seven. She is an honors Law Degree graduate with an aspiration  to contribute to the economic growth of Malawi by addressing some social economic challenges from household level, i.e. providing mothers a rare opportunity of nursing their children in safe ‘free’ daycares as they go through a series of trainings that will make them more competitive in the job market. As a first born, she delved into the leadership role at a young age which birthed her passion and interest in ‘people.’ Vanessa’s sustained refusal to the status quo earned her a place as a Malawi-Representative with the Mi-Lead fellowship program where she interacted with the likes of Kwame Nkrumah and the late Mia Angelo. She is also a YALI fellow and believes that “Good leadership is, among other things,  understanding that change is a tool that aids us in bringing life to the things we ‘perceive’ dead rather than that which buries them further in the ground.”   Quotes "As you get older you understand the dynamics but it doesn't make it easier" "Enjoy it, rather than Endure it"   KNOW your Roots, Grow your Purpose LINKS: Birth of a Mother: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZModeysqzMiH9BhYBlp6jMR6gL_Jp8TWfrB   BYOB - Be Your Own Bae: tps://forms.gle/oBfq1cCyF4dZVhaz8    AWV Networking Virtual Mixer: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcpcOuopjstE9Go7--1WJ_a83VYGNt7o3a7   Socials: www.instagram.com/chulu_bydesign www.facebook.com/chulubydesign    Join the Africana Woman Visionaries: https://www.facebook.com/groups/708489836426989    Africana Woman Blog: https://www.africanawoman.com/

Accountability, small goals, and thought work are the keys to long-term success. It all starts with the thought piece. Dr. Harita Raja joins me to talk about her mind-body transformation and how life opened up for her in the last year.   Key Takeaways Putting yourself first is not selfish. Setting realistic expectations and goals is the key to sustainable results. Finding an accountability group can dramatically increase your chances of success.   About Dr. Harita Raja Harita Raja, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in women's mental health.  Dr. Raja founded Bethesda Women's Mental Health to provide women with a place to obtain compassionate and knowledgeable psychiatric care. She works closely with her patients, their loved ones, and their providers to find the best treatment plan.  Dr. Raja received her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. She completed her psychiatry residency at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, in Washington, DC.  Dr. Raja has published numerous articles and a book chapter about women’s mental health.  She has also presented her work at various local and national psychiatric meetings.  She is a member of the D.C. Women’s Mental Health Consortium.  Dr. Raja is dedicated to educating women and the community about women's mental health and the options for treatment using a holistic perspective.   Get a Life Coach who Gets It Dr. Harita Raja shares how she spends her days helping women as a psychologist, but she neglected her own health and well-being. It was only at the start of lockdown that she realized she had to make substantial changes to her own health. One of the biggest factors Harita took into consideration when looking for a life coach was someone who would understand her lifestyle. That sense of understanding is especially important for physicians, as we have such a demanding life, combined with a tendency to be high-functioning. The first area we started looking at was Harita’s thoughts. Your thought model has a dramatic impact on every aspect of your health. That’s why it’s essential to get your thoughts on track before considering any physical transformation.   Group Coaching and Accountability is Key In fact, for Harita, it was about four months of thought work before we started working on her physical transformation by adding strength training.  Being in a group setting helped Harita with this transition as well. That safety zone where we could share our vulnerabilities honestly is such an essential part of a healthy relationship with yourself. Harita explains why setting realistic goals and expectations is so vital to any kind of health transformation. Setting these smaller goals makes your bigger transformations much more possible, as you get excited about the smaller successes you’re making.   Homework for Women Physicians Are you hesitant to make any kind of health transformation? But I couldn’t do that until then.” [13:09] “It’s finding that confidence in us first because that’s where it starts. It’s all in our thoughts. As we enter into a period of deep transformation and shift, I urge you to allow yourself the space to receive. We all have the ability to choose our own highest possible timeline. You are held, supported, and guided by an infinite Universe - will you lean into trust? About Choosing the Highest Possible Timeline After the last two months of surrendering to the need to just be present and in my energy and feelings, I’m finally feeling like the end is in sight. January and February were energetically draining, but are we surprised? Lightworkers are experiencing so many upgrades, of course, it’s going to feel exhausting. Astrologically speaking, we’re entering a period of forward propulsion. The planetary placements and alignments show that this month, we all have the ability and space to shift into our highest possible timelines. What does this look like? Quantum shifts and transformations that you’ve maybe thought about before (or maybe not) that you feel called to drastically shift right now. It could be leaving your job to go full-time in your business, leaving a long-term relationship, or changing any other number of aspects of your life. The Universe is there to support you through these huge shifts. This month, focus on trusting these sudden shifts and changes you want to make. Surrender to the shifting energy because the Universe and your guides really do know best. Finally, I urge you to allow yourself to receive. Receive these gifts, shifts, changes, and all of the upgrades that are possible in your life. There are divine beings whose role is to guide and help you onto your highest timeline. Let’s surrender and trust. What is your next quantum move? Do you believe you are worthy of receiving it? Are you brave enough and bold enough to make drastic changes if you feel the urge to do so? Let me know in the comments, lovely! And within that space of change comes a shedding of old skin: a releasing, a purging, and a letting go.” [5:07] “The Universe is really asking for you to trust, to allow, to surrender, to flow with the energy. When you allow yourself to flow with the energy, you allow light to reveal itself to you in ways greater than you could ever have imagined.” [8:44] “Remember that these higher divine beings who assist us with our evolution and our ascension know more than we do about what our highest good is. If they’re dropping insight, signs, and synchronicities to you, trust that they know what is in the higher plan for you. Trust and know that they are there supporting you every single step of the way, loving you, giving you everything you need to keep moving forward one step at a time.” [12:52] Resources Mentioned Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 26: Accelerating your Soul Growth in 2021 (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-26-accelerating-your-soul-growth-in-2021/) Episode 27: Overcoming Fears Around Spiritual Expansion (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-27-overcoming-fears-around-spiritual-expansion/) Episode 32: Permission to ‘Just Be’ (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-32-permission-to-just-be/)

There was a time I tried promoting my studio with Facebook ads. It didn’t end up working out. I suppose there was a lot I didn’t know at the time that would have made the difference. But why would a video studio want to consider Facebook ads or ads of any kind? Today’s guest will answer that question and tell you how to do it the right way. Key Takeaways The best lead magnets will position you as a guide who will serve your clients however you’re able to while also letting them know that you may not be the best fit for everybody. Don’t make ads too early on. First, identify your sales process and how you convert leads into paying customers. Then you can create ads that use the successful process that you’ve already established. About Michele Caruana Michele Caruana is a corporate marketing professional, turned local business owner, turned online entrepreneur. As someone who was stuck on the marketing-hamster-wheel for years in marketing her own business, her passion is now helping other local business owners simplify and streamline their strategies so they can get new sales, bookings, and clients while they spend their time doing what they love in their business. Simple is Best for Your Sales Process Michele explains how simplifying your sales process is crucial to its success. There’s so much to distract you from the work you love to do. That’s why having an established straight-forward process to take people on a journey from a prospective customer to a satisfied paying client will allow you to spend your energy on the parts of your business you enjoy the most.  Creating content that your ideal client wants and needs puts you in the front of their mind when they’re ready to spend money. Your ads will work best when they keep you first in your customer’s thoughts when they think about who they need. But this takes research and preparation. Michele tells us just what to consider when beginning this important process. Making Ads the Right Way Once you find your process to convert calls into sales and put it in place, Facebook ads can be used to further amplify that process. Michele explains why getting into ads too early is a waste of time and money. Before you create and pay for ads, you need to know how you best land paying clients. Once that’s known and established, your ads can streamline this process by steering people to the resources you know work. What’s your experience with Facebook ads? How has your sales process changed over time? Tell me what works and what doesn’t in the comments on the episode page!   In This Episode: The importance of simplifying your marketing process [6:10] What to do before you ever reach out to clients [11:16] Why making referrals can sometimes be better than the work itself [18:10] Getting clients excited to work with you from the start [27:25] What to avoid when running ads for your business [34:24] Tips for engaging with potential clients through Facebook ads [39:00]   Quotes “As someone who works in a niche business, it’s just as important to attract your ideal customers as it is to repel people who you can’t do your best work for.” [16:02] “When someone first steps into your email list, that’s when they’re hottest. That’s when they’re most interested and most easily moved towards a sale or booking. Having even just a few emails to start with and then adding more as time goes on is so important when it comes to simplifying everything.” [31:43] “What I recommend is finding that perfect way to collect someone’s contact information - really honing in on that nurture-sequence - making sure your process is going to result in bookings. That’s when you need to spend money - when you know that it’s already working.” [35:14] “Even if you feel like you are wasting money with Facebook ads, they really come down to testing, tweaking, and optimizing. It is a learning process.” [42:51]   Links: Get access to the free Client Budget Workshop Join the Onward Summit Waitlist Core Storyblocks Find Michele Caruana online Follow Michele on Instagram | Youtube Get Michele’s Free Facebook & Instagram Ad Guide The Marketing Junkie Podcast   Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? General Dentistry & Sleep: How They Go Together Episode #274 with Dr. Erin Elliott Snoring is a problem that almost everyone denies having. In fact, most people don't realize they do it, or how potentially life-threatening it can be! Today, Kirk Behrendt brings in Dr. Erin Elliott, who warns that sleep apnea is no longer an “old, fat man's disease.” It can affect people of all ages, shapes, and sizes — even children — and it can go undiagnosed for years. So, how can dentists help? To learn how and why you should implement sleep apnea treatment into your dental practice, listen to Episode 274 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Dentists are on the front lines for people's health. Sleep is important for overall health and wellness. Learn to screen for and treat sleep apnea. Medical insurance will pay for oral appliances. Help patients realize they need help. It will increase compliance! But don't be too pushy. Quotes: “As soon as I see someone's anatomy, I'm like, ‘You have sleep apnea,' because it's not an old, fat man's disease. And unfortunately, in America, that's how people look at it, is an old, fat man's disease. And I treat young, petite people, healthy people, all the time.” (09:33—09:49) “It's not voodoo. Oxygen is not anything crazy to get to this kid. Sleep is not crazy to want to achieve. So, I don't understand why there's so much resistance. (10:50—11:02) “The myth is that medical insurance doesn't pay for oral appliances. They do if you have the right documentation. The other myth is that they don't pay well — which is often true . . . And the third thing is that you can't do sleep without medical insurance.” (18:30—19:01) “We get people to sign up for aligners every day. Comprehensive care, cash fee, insurance doesn't help, $5,000 to $6,000. Why aren't we able to present an oral appliance that could improve the quality of their life and even extend their life for $2,500 and get them to accept treatment? And it's because people are so reliant on medical insurance . . . That's the first question they ask. They don't care about my certifications and initials after my name. Their first question is, ‘How much is it? Do you bill medical?'” (19:20—20:01) “It's the primary care, the nurse practitioners, endocrinologists, psychiatrists, marriage counselors — there are so many people that are in the trenches with people that need help — chiropractors, naturopaths. So many people need our help, and these people are exposed to them and interact with them every day. They just don't look for it and don't know what to look for. And there's some fear in the medical world because they don't know enough about the appliance. So, then, they just don't bring it up.” (23:14—23:47) “Where the medical world really misses is connecting with the patient, finding their pain points and helping them realize they need help. You'll get far more compliance when they understand the disease that we're trying to treat.” (27:52—28:07) “So many orthodontists think, ‘Oh, no. We'll just wait till they're 12.' Let's just wait till they're done growing and their sutures are sealed, and they've been sick this whole time. Why are we not expanding and intervening in growing jaws earlier? That, I'll never understand.” (30:47—31:02) “There are so many things in the way that our lifestyle of convenience exacerbates inflammation, tonsil enlargement and obligatory mouth breathing, no filtration of bacteria, ear infections. It's just a bad downward cycle, because once those tonsils are so large and they can't breathe through their nose, there's no chance to catch up.” (33:11—33:36) “Complexity is the enemy of implementation.” (45:26—45:29) Snippets: Dr. Elliott's background. (03:30—08:02) Why sleep apnea is a big topic in dentistry. (08:28—09:49) Children are often undiagnosed. (10:30—12:10) How to monetize this. (12:41—13:46) How general dentistry and sleep work together. (14:07—14:50) Having a “sleep champion” in the...

Does God care about what we wear? Why do theological discussions around fashion and clothing seem to always center around the modesty issue? Is there more to the conversation than that? On this episode of Christian Curious, Dr. Halee Gray Scott and Hannah Grieser talk with Dr. Robert Covolo, author of ‘Fashion Theology.'Robert Covolo is the Director of the Pastoral Residency Center, Christ Church Sierra Madre. He has a doctorate in theology and culture from Fuller Theological Seminary and Dogmatics and Ecumenics from a university in Amsterdam. He discusses the history of the global fashion movement, the ethics of dress, fashion as an act of hospitality and cultural engagement, and more.Questions:“Fashion Theology” seems to be a new and niche area. What inspired you to address the theology of fashion? What is fashion? How does fashion shape the world? The African theologian Augustine wrote that we belong to a heavenly city and also an earthly city. As we are members of the earthly city, within a unique culture, does God care about clothes? Why or why not?In your book, you mention several male Christian thinkers who, throughout history, have tried to decide what was and wasn't acceptable for Christian women to wear. One of Augustine's central questions about fashion theology was “whether women sin mortally in excessive adornment.”a. Why do you think people have felt (and still feel) the need to make these judgment calls?b. How can a sound fashion theology help navigate possible sexism when in regards to deciphering how 'good' Christians should dress?Fashion costs money. Typically, the more trendy fashion is the more expensive it is. Some Christians might argue that we need to spend our money on other things. What would you say to people who are hesitant to spend money on clothes due to a conflict of spending money on other people or generosity? You worked as an associate young adult pastor for 12 years. What implications would you say that fashion theology has for young adults?Quotes:“As a theologian, I believe Jesus is Lord of everything. That means Jesus has something to do with everything. I wanted to understand what Jesus had to do with fashion.”“We are living in a fashion system. We are all living with this rapid interplay of dress. We look at our clothing as a palette in which we can express ourselves.”“Art is integrated into your life through fashion”“Culture is really what we make of creation.”“When I read scripture, culture isn't really something that comes from the fall— it comes from God.”“The thing that really struck me as I did this research and traced all these different Christian thinkers is how much they had to say about fashion. It was quite shocking that they took dress so incredibly seriously.”“Until you look for it, you don't see it.”“Celebrate life— embrace every day as a gift from God! Connecting with your nutrition is one of the most important things you can do when you’re trying to grow your spiritual development. I’m joined by holistic health and life coach, Heidi Hauer, to talk about how she holistically helps her clients build sustainable, long-term health and soul practices. About Heidi Hauer Heidi Hauer is a holistic health and life coach for career-minded women who are ready to own their purpose, find that infamous work-life integration, and reach deeper levels of satisfaction, in and outside of work. She hosts ‘The Heidi Hauer Podcast’ and is a blogger and speaker. Her first book ‘The Queendom Within – a guide to rewriting your fairy tale and creating your own happily ever after’ will be available from early 2021. She lived and worked in Vienna, London, Brussels, and is currently based in Zurich. Heidi guides women to embrace health, happiness and true fulfilment as they strive towards professional success. With qualifications in nutrition and coaching combined with nearly 20 years’ experience in the corporate world, Heidi helps her clients to unlock the clarity, vision and self-awareness required to prioritise their needs and dreams across their life, career and relationships. The starting point? It all begins with the relationship we have with food - what, how and when we eat. About Prioritising Holistic Health & Nutrition for Soul Purpose Success Heidi Hauer joins me today to talk about the intersection of your physical health your spiritual health. She lets us know why it’s essential we have a strong understanding and balance with our nutritional health before we can commit to walking a spiritual path. Heidi even explains how a poor diet can even hold you back from fully connecting to your intuition. It really is true what they say; a nutritionally sound body is the key to absolutely everything! Heidi shares what brought her into nutritional health coaching. We’ve spoken about this before on the podcast, but being so much in our masculine energy and living that, ‘go go go’ life all the time is detrimental to all aspects of our health. You don’t need to go full speed ahead all the time, lovely. Slow down and enjoy this journey life is taking you on. For Heidi, she learned to prioritise relaxation into her days. When she did this, coupled with a focus on healthy eating and proper nutrition, she felt more aligned and connected with her spiritual gifts. Heidi shares some of her best and most practical steps for aligning with your body and reconnecting with your intuition. She recommends starting with your diet, especially figuring out what foods do and don’t agree with your body. Are there any foods that don’t feel good to your body when you eat them? How lovely was this episode!? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode Why the first aspect of your spiritual health to focus on is your nutritional health [7:15] How your diet can hold you back from a connection to your intuition [11:20] What happens when you realise you don’t need to go full speed ahead all the time [17:30] How you can build relaxation into your every day [23:00] How you can better tap into your intuition and know what you need to do for your body [25:45] Quotes “As much as we define ourselves by our thoughts and our emotions, the one thing that makes us experience all of that and really be in this world, is our body.” [3:41] “If you are very much in your mind and that’s somehow the problem, then you also need to get to where the problem is. If you want to move from your mind into your body, then you need to start in your mind. That is understanding, first, what the problem actually is and why eating healthy is actually a good thing.” [16:13] “If it were all about the spiritual experience, then you wouldn’t have been carnated. You wouldn’t be here. Why would you choose to have a body in the first place? Because here, you can make things happen. Here you can change things. This is the material world where it’s a different game, somehow, than only to be in the spiritual realm.” [32:28] Resources Mentioned Join Heidi Hauer’s Free Online Community (https://www.heidihauer.com/community) Buy The Queendom Within by Heidi Hauer at Waterstones (https://bit.ly/34G7KzY) Get a 3 session deep dive package for £333 instead of £630 when you mention the Rise of the Savvy Souls podcast Listen to The Heidi Hauer Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-heidi-hauer-podcast/id1501745114) Find Heidi Hauer Online (https://www.heidihauer.com/) Follow Heidi Hauer on Instagram (https://instagram.com/heidi.hauer) | Facebook (https://facebook.com/heidihauerhealthcoaching) | LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/heidihauer/) | Twitter (https://twitter.com/heidihauer) Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 14: Making Space for New Levels of Expansion (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-14-making-space-for-new-levels-of-expansion/) Episode 15: How to Connect to Your Intuition in 4 Steps (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-15-how-to-connect-to-your-intuition-in-4-steps/) Episode 9: 4 Root Causes of Wounded Feminine Energy (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-9-4-root-causes-of-wounded-feminine-energy/) Special Guest: Heidi Hauer.

And in this episode, I want to dissect how giving our attention to things like conspiracy theories can impact our energy and prevent us from living a life on purpose. In this episode, you will hear: Why you should be aware of the type of information you consume and how it makes you feel How to be a good steward of your attention and energy What it means to live your life on purpose and how negative things like conspiracy theories can distract you from that Why searching for darkness and corruption is a waste of your life force (and what to focus on instead) The beautiful magic that happens when we process our own pain and learn to have compassion for ourselves Coaching Questions & Thoughts:   How does reading the news or following conspiracy theories make you feel? In what ways are you allowing negative information to take up your time and energy? How can you set filters around the information you allow in? What are some of the ways you can better protect your energy? What are you giving your attention to? This episode features an interview with Heidi Melin, CMO of Workfront. Heidi has held the position of CMO 6 times over an impressive two-decade career of developing and executing marketing strategies that drive growth. On this episode, Heidi illustrates her approach to pivoting Workfront’s marketing strategies in response to the paradigm shift that companies are experiencing in 2020, and she explains why you need to be viewing your marketing dollars as an investment, not just an expense.Key TakeawaysWe’re undergoing a paradigm shift driven by COVID and the rise of the millennial B2B consumer that is completely changing how companies buy software.Companies can differentiate themselves by deeply understanding how buyers engage with their brand, and then utilizing those insights throughout the selling process.Account-based marketing isn’t enough; the strategy must be hyper-targeted across marketing and sales.Quotes“As marketers, if we have learned anything over the course of the last few months, it's that we have to be able to adapt much more quickly in order to be successful. All the things that we knew were effective are changing and they're changing immediately. So how do we adjust and continue to drive demand to support the pipeline that's required for our selling organization?”“One of the most important things that we have learned out of the pivot in response to COVID is that the entire business process needs to change, not just a marketing tactic here or there. It's a paradigm shift that we're going through right now that is not only going to change our marketing programs and tactics, but it's going to change how organizations buy enterprise software.”“I think in terms of what channels give us the ability to be very focused and targeted in our investments. We're prioritizing those channels that allow us to more accurately target our target accounts. We have the tools today to be very specific about who our messages go to. Leveraging those tools becomes really important, because our spend levels aren't necessarily going up, but the pressure on marketing teams to deliver engagement and demand is going up.”“I always talk about marketing as an investment versus an expense. If we want to make sure that each one of those dollars is used to its fullest impact, we want to make sure we get to the people that have the highest likelihood to buy from us.”“I very seldom use the term ABM because it's been overused and over promoted. Isn't ABM just a category of software that allows us to deliver on the premise of marketing that's always been there? ABM technology provided the ability for us as marketers to do what we've always said we should be doing, which is targeting the right people with our message.”SponsorDemand Gen Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com, the #1 Conversational Marketing platform for companies that use Salesforce and the secret weapon for Demand Gen pros. The year 2020 has dramatically shifted the role of people leaders in business. COVID and the racial justice movement has rightly forced managers to take a hard look at their organization’s priorities. This is a time when human nature itself is being put back at the center of companies. As we consider the importance of how people feel while at work, good leaders are recognizing the opportunities to improve company culture.   About Kristina Johnson As the Chief People Officer at Okta. Kristina Johnson leads the organization’s global people function. She is responsible for the company’s human capital management strategy and oversees talent acquisition, talent development, total rewards, and engagement programs. Kristina brings more than 20 years of human resources experience to Okta and has worked across a variety of industries, including technology, software, consulting, and engineering, ranging from start-ups to large multi-national established businesses. She is an experienced leader of global teams and adept at driving change management across diverse regions.   Bringing the Human Element Back to Work Despite the massive tragedy it has brought, the global COVID pandemic has had a positive side-effect. It has accelerated the role of remote work and forced many organizations to rethink how they promote efficiency. It has also reemphasized the human element of work. With managers focused on how to support the emotional aspect of work, old paradigms are being re-imagined.   The New Dynamic Workplace Kristina explains how her company is embracing the new dynamics of the workplace. This involves recognizing that we are all complex humans and work styles should reflect this. Going beyond simply allowing remote work, companies can give their people a huge range of choices to support them. By providing flexibility around this, organizations can better support their people and see a huge return in productivity.   In This Episode How COVID and racial justice awareness has shifted the priorities of leaders in business [0:57] Teaching empathy in the workplace [3:00] Balancing the needs of remote work with the desire to return to a physical workplace [4:30] The difference between dynamic work and remote work [7:35] The role of the post-COVID office [10:52] Managing communication and getting accurate feedback in a virtual workplace [14:54] Recognizing the opportunities that come with crisis [20:50] How to incentivize employees not to overwork themselves [25:50] Creating environments to support extraordinary managers [30:48] How to measure engagement in a meaningful way [37:28]   Quotes “As tragic as the global pandemic and racial injustice has been - and you can’t ignore that - there have been positive side-effects.” [2:25] “People are multifaceted. Everyone works differently. People like to be managed differently. People are productive at different times. If we can get out of people’s way and let them work, they would get so much done.” [10:35] “Now more than ever, we need to invest in managers because they’re the first line of defense in making sure the employees are taken care of.” [31:49] “If we’re going to have a culture of builders and owners, we need to empower our employees.” [32:39]   Key Takeaways 1. Recent events have shifted the role of people managers. They now play a crucial role in supporting the workforce at an emotional level. Teaching and supporting empathy is a large part of this.  2. Dynamic work goes beyond remote work. With dynamic work, leaders can provide true choices to their employees. Investing in employees through access to stipends supports them in numerous ways. Also, without the geographic constraints of a physical workplace, the talent pool has never been wider.   Links & Resources Okta   Find 15Five online Follow 15Five on Facebook | Twitter | Linkedin   Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative

Few people discuss what happens to your hormones after menopause. In fact, there seems to be a lot of secrecy among women in this stage of life about their hormonal health. That’s why I’m so excited to have Maria Claps with me today to shed light on this important topic.   About Maria Claps Maria Claps is a certified health coach, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, and mom to four grown boys. After receiving inadequate healthcare that did nothing to address her perimenopause problems, Maria enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in order to get the help she sought. After that, Maria pursued several hormone-centric training including Dr. Sara Gottfried's practitioner hormone training program, the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition program. Her mentors include hormone scholar and scientist Dr. Lindsey Berkson. Maria helps women all over the world as a perimenopause and menopause mentor. She is a DUTCH hormone test expert. She also teaches practitioners how to help midlife women thrive in her mentorship program Midlife Hormone Mastery. When she’s not working with clients, Maria can be found trekking through Italy, at farmers’ markets locally, or in the kitchen creating recipes.   Hormonal Changes Don’t Mean the End of Your Lifestyle Maria shares how her experience sent her on a quest to better understand the signs and symptoms of perimenopause. Insomnia, weight gain, and unstable moods led her to solutions that few others in the health field were discussing.  Over the years, Maria has discovered the truth that lies behind many common menopause myths. In reality, you don’t have to accept all the changes. Maria explains that hormonal changes are not necessarily the same thing as aging. By recognizing that the way you feel now is a symptom, not the root of the problem, you can take informed actions. Much of the way people think of menopause is very negative. Maria explains how cultural expectations of older women derive from a false narrative. Sadly, this has led to a culture of silence around the topic. Maria works to help women open up about their experiences. When this happens, women can take action and regain control over their lives. Maria stresses that living a healthy lifestyle will help ease your transition through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. Diet and nutrition, as well as exercise, go a long way. That being said, there is no guarantee that it will still go smoothly. Many of Maria’s clients do this and still struggle.  It can be scary to experience these changes in your body. There is a sense of loss of control when you don’t fully understand how these changes affect you. That’s why Maria stresses the role of education. When you understand your body well, you know what is normal, what isn’t, and what you can do about it.   Understanding Your Hormones Before, During, and After Menopause Hormone testing, particularly the DUTCH Test, is a major tool Maria employs. It gives a complete picture of what the hormones are doing and how they are changing. Maria has seen the value of these tests to highlight potential problems and establish healthy regimens for her clients. What can you start doing today to prepare for menopause? Del Jolly is co-founder and director of Unlimited Sciences, a psychedelic research non-profit. He was the outreach director for the Decriminalize Denver team that passed the historic legislation which decriminalized psilocybin in Denver, leading to a nation-wide movement. Before that, he worked for Charlotte’s Web CBD in business development and is on the board of community advisors for the Realm of Caring, a cannabis non-profit.  Along with research, Unlimited Sciences hosts a webinar series called Unlimited Voices and produces content educating the general public on entheogens. Unlimited Sciences’ first study, in conjunction with Johns Hopkins’ Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research, intends to understand how the community is using psilocybin in real-world settings.  The goal of the study is to learn more about the effects of using psilocybin outside of the research setting, and any potential factors that could affect those outcomes. By collecting data from individuals who are already planning to use psilocybin, the researchers aim to investigate variables such as demographics, lifestyle, mindset, and personality traits - as well as characteristics of the experience itself, such as dosage, ingestion method, intention, and setting.  Anyone planning to use psilocybin (single dose; not a microdose regimen) outside a research laboratory in the next 6 months is invited to participate.   In this episode, you’ll hear: How in five years, Del went from being anti-cannabis to co-founding and directing a psychedelic research non-profit organization. Why community-provided data about how psilocybin is actually being used, and the effects people are experiencing with it, is crucial for informing future research studies. How data points collected through such studies can lead to aligning the financial incentives of insurance companies to support plant-medicine empowered therapies. Quotes: “As we were moving forward with the decriminalize initiative, I just knew and saw that there’s going to be this huge wave of psychedelic naive folks who are going to hear these stories that are going to come out, whether it’s veterans, or smoking cessation, or whatever it might be, and they’re going to need a safe place to land.” (11:01) "I continued to grow my knowledge of plant medicine and then I had a personal experience a couple years ago and that was it. I absolutely knew that there is so much potential in these entheogens, and our choice to not study them will go down as probably one of the biggest crimes against the human race." (16:07) "If you say: “Hey, how can I get involved in this cause? What can I do?” Most people don’t have time to petition, to collect signatures. They don’t have time to start a non-profit. Their focus is on other things but this is very important to them. This study is a really good opportunity to anonymously provide information on how you’re using psilocybin."  (21:18) "People are not using psilocybin in a lab, on a couch, with one or two therapists. They don’t. It’s not happening. This way of collecting information allows us to see how the community is using it, what does that look like, and what can we learn from that type of information?" (22:18) "It’s not our role to get people to vote for psilocybin. It’s more our role to make sure they’re not necessarily voting against it, just like for me (referring to his past), if you’re on the fence, just stay there. If you don’t know, just stay on the fence. Don’t jump on one side because it’s what you think you’re supposed to do." God meets us on our own terms, and however you honor that — be it traditional, spiritual, or Universal, there is a power bigger than you at work in life.  But, in the midst of police brutality, publicly televised executions, and a virus that feels like a plague, it’s easy to feel energetically exhausted and question where God is, and how this could all be happening.    This week, Dr. Venus focuses on how to activate faith when you are feeling attacked and oppressed. She talks about making sure you are praying for the right things, accessing peace and divinity on the road to joy, and arming yourself with the language of real social and spiritual change. She focuses on three questions about God’s love, trusting the Bible, and activating faith and joy when you feel lost and forsaken.    Key Takeaways:  [3:07] Dr. Venus is steeped in Biblical principles, but whether you consider yourself a Spiritualist, Universalist, or something in between, all are welcome here in this conversation.  [6:10] It is important to process grief and get it out in a safe way, whether it’s immersing yourself in books, writing, speaking to a therapist, etc.  [14:27] Question 1: If God loves me, why would a loving God let the police kill us for SO LONG?  Every action has a reaction, and what we are seeing now is the fall out from our Puritan values that have been planted in the very fabric of America. Instead, we should be praying the right prayers, asking God “What will it take to uproot this tree and set us on a new path to generate new and different seeds (outcomes)?” [20:14] How can I trust the Bible when it has been used to oppress me & mine by White Supremacy for over 400 years? It’s not as much about trusting the Bible as it is about knowing that the Bible can be manipulated. The Bible is a road map and you have to execute it in the way that you believe. A person, any person, can use it as a weapon or healing bond. Humans justify the Bible for what they want to use it for, so you must be aware of the element of free will in there.  [22:40] How do I activate my faith, love, and trust in you Lord, when I feel like you have forsaken me?  If you are reading this or listening along, it means you are alive, you are here, you are whole, and that God is with you. Black men and women are anointed to keep moving forward and get up even when life has generationally knocked us down.  [26:31] From the rotten seeds of hate and bigotry, the world is unifying and transforming because of our pain. We are the chosen ones. [29:20] Even if your body has been wounded and tarnished, we must remember that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. You can practice moving from flesh to spirit with meditation, writing, movement, or whatever makes you feel connected with your divinity.   [34:11] One of the biggest ways to fight and take on spiritual warfare is to stay peaceful and hopeful.  [38:00] Get peaceful with God, whatever way you can get on the same page. Process your grief. Trust that even if you can’t see the whole picture you can know it’s in divine order and working for the good in everyone. Create some joy. You are here.    Quotes: “As human beings manipulate the Bible for their self-interest, I stop blaming God.”   “A person can use the Bible as a weapon, or a person can use the Bible as a healing bond.”  “When you are chosen, you are given a level of power and skill that has you model for the world what it looks like to walk in faith and be touched by God.”  “As a spirit connected to spirit, we can move anything.” Mentioned:  Dr. Venus Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram  “Hot Mess Millionaire” Amazon Series  Free Gift When You Join The Truth Tribe The Black Woman Millionaire Hot Mess Edition  Join the conversation! Denise shares her journey into wedding planning, and her work in cultural wedding celebrations. Big Takeaways There are different international designers that will work with more local boutique salons. It takes some finagling, but if you are getting into that world it is worth looking into! When it comes to cultural weddings, educating yourself is the most important factor. You can plan extra little events that help with timing. If some of the family is always late, you can plan a cocktail hour that allows time for people to filter in. As the planner, you have to be willing to be steering the ship. Which sometimes means doing tough things. Spend time and energy to put together a team that is going to support you along the way. Understand things will go wrong, so you're going to want to have those can help you recover. Do you have a career related question that you’re uncomfortable asking your peers, managers or mentors? We're here to address your questions. The fear of being perceived as inadequate prevents us from asking –but it causes us to pay a high price in every aspect of our lives—in lost income, slower career progress, LIMITED access to leadership roles and potential risk to well-being. So, learn to ask –and start by asking us.  Many of our listeners have asked what we wish we had known before taking a role in management. Sometimes when you make a decision to make a change you feel super pumped, so excited & on top of the world.... Sometimes you feel like you’re going to puke because you’re so nervous & anxious. Sometimes you’re really scared thinking like what if this doesn’t work out the way that I planned.. & then sometimes, you do that thing & right afterwards you feel so freaking proud of yourself for doing that thing that you knew was right to do even though you were scared. & then of course sometimes all of those things happen in the same day if the change is really big! But today I really want to talk about the FEELINGS that are associated with change & some tactical ways that I actually manage those feelings through the lens of opportunity cost and risk. So buckle up, we are gonna dive right in!   Quotes: “As humans we are not wired for uncertainty, our brains are literally not made that way. But just like any muscle, I think you can build up your comfortability with risk as if it was a muscle.” “I think when you’re making a change or making a decision to do something that you’re a little bit nervous to do but you know in your gut feels right, it’s important to actually take inventory on the opportunity cost. What are you going to miss out on if you don’t do that thing?” “You’re a human. You’re going to have feelings that you don’t need a permission slip to have. It’s times like these that cause us to question everything. Anxiety and uncertainty are creativity and self-esteem killers. But it’s important to remember that you’re more than these fears. Today’s guest has some great advice on maintaining a good mindset and creating clarity even as nothing around you makes sense anymore. Megan Rafuse is a co-founder at Shift Collab. She is a mental health innovator focused on helping ambitious leaders believe they are enough as they are. As a therapist and entrepreneur, she works with executives, creatives, athletes, and young leaders to examine their limiting beliefs, challenge their inner imposter voice, and help them build confidence to share their struggles openly. It’s actually very common for leaders to think that they aren’t good enough. Megan discusses the source of these limiting beliefs. It often comes from a gap in how you view yourself and how others see you. Megan gives some great advice for overcoming this gap in perception. Mostly it comes from recognizing that we’ll never reach a point where we know it all. Many of us do a lot of our work in isolation. If this is the case, Megan stresses the importance of having a healthy routine. Building moments of validation into the process will do wonders. Megan recommends setting up markers throughout your workday to signify the progress that you make. Lastly, Megan addresses what I imagine most of us are feeling right now. The stress and anxiety that this global pandemic is causing is widespread. It has affected all of us in many ways. Megan lets us know how to make the best of our feelings to cope with the stress and anxiety in and around us. How do you receive daily validation for the work you do? Tell me in the comments on the episode page!   In this episode Why leaders often hold limiting beliefs What happens when we realize that there is no “finish line” to becoming a leader How to challenge your own thought patterns to deal with your limiting beliefs Why you shouldn’t automatically believe everything you think The importance of cultivating a healthy routine that promotes validation of your work Coping strategies for feelings of stress and anxiety   Quotes “As leaders, we’re constantly learning, growing, building, and developing new skills. So we never hit a point where we feel like we’re done.” [12:19] “The best buffer to challenging unhelpful thoughts is the ability to actually start questioning your own thought pattern.” [22:16] “Shame is made smaller by speaking up when we feel small.” [28:38] “If we are isolated and working on this incredible piece of work, our goal is to say ‘what do I do before and after work to help me take care of me’." [33:05] “We are in an unprecedented time. It is safe to say most people are feeling it. We’re feeling the uncertainty. Our anxiety is higher. Our stress is high. We know stress and anxiety can kill our creativity. What I want to normalize is that if you weren’t feeling stressed or anxious, then your body’s mechanism to keep you safe might not be functioning well.” [48:16]   Links Find Megan Rafuse online Follow Megan on Instagram “Unlocking Us” podcast with Brené Brown   Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? Leaders need to be self-aware, able to make effective decisions, and prepared to grow their network to succeed in their careers. Laurie Baedke joins me to talk about how she helps build high-performance teams and keeps leaders at the top of their games. Laurie transitioned from a background in healthcare administration to self-employment by helping physicians create their own clinics. She developed her own career even further and now works as a speaker, educator, and author. Laurie is also the host of The Growth Edge Podcast. Laurie starts by explaining how she grew her own business through referrals. She is the perfect example of your network being your net worth. We also talk about how women face a double-bind at many points in their careers. Laurie explains why she started to dial back her personality depending on who her audience is. As women, we’re often told to hide aspects of ourselves and it is absolutely infuriating. Yet, there are times when toning it down can be beneficial in our careers. Making effective decisions is part of what being a good leader entails. But it’s not only about saying yes - your no can be just as important and impactful. And, even more than this, it’s knowing what your decision is that makes the most difference. Laurie shares why “hard” is simply an expected aspect of the entrepreneurial journey. She gives some examples of her own learned experiences that have been humbling for her. We all have them and sharing these experiences is vital for ours and other’s growth. You already know what a big believer in having a mentor is. Laurie confirms this when she talks about how many mentors she has and what roles they’ve played in her career. For Laurie, it’s about curating her circle to be the most supportive and effective - and playing that role for other women. How are you growing an effective circle? What learned experiences are the most humbling for you? Follow Jesus, not diet culture! Is this the best advice you could ever get? I think so, and so does Erin Todd, the Ginger in Progress, who joins me today to talk about how intuitive eating can help you feel closer in your relationship with God. Ditching Diet Culture  Erin has a long history of dieting and restrictive eating that actually led to a number of health problems. She was told by doctors she was intolerant to an incredible amount of foods and had to try elimination diets. It was at this point when she heard the Holy Spirit urge her to investigate intuitive eating. Erin believes that society’s obsession with dieting is akin to idolism. And when you’re so focused on, worshipping, and devoting your life to something like dieting, you’re not connecting with God the way a Christian woman should. By rejecting that obsessive diet mentality, you can actually embrace and strengthen your identity in Christ. Take the extra time to worship, pray, and repent for the time you spent straying from God.  At the same time, we both believe that your health and fitness journey can be an extension of your relationship with God. By treating your body well, you are keeping your image of God healthy. It’s when your health and fitness routine turns into an obsession that your heart can stray. Erin explains what the difference between healthy and unhealthy discipline is, and how when you have healthy discipline habits, you can feel closer to God. This belief is in line with some of the reasons Erin follows an intuitive approach to eating, where she eats what and when her body tells her to. Erin describes the feelings she had when she quit dieting for good as incredible and freeing. Are you ready to let go of your dieting obsession to walk closer to God? Let me know in the comments on the episode page!   In This Episode How dieting can cause health issues What the relationship between dieting and idolism is How rejecting the diet mentality can help you embrace your identity in Christ How your approach to health and fitness can be an extension of your relationship with God What the difference between healthy and unhealthy discipline is How intuitive eating can help you feel closer to God’s guidance What it feels like when you stop dieting   Quotes “As soon as I did the leap of faith into intuitive eating and surrendered all of the dieting idols, I could eat all the foods I was ‘intolerant of’ immediately.” (10:51) “We all just want a clear cut, quick-fix answer of ‘what do I have to do to be healthy?’, but it doesn’t work like that! You have to ask, not just what’s right for you, but what’s right for you in this season of life? And let the Spirit lead you in that. Because what’s right for you is not necessarily what’s right for me.” (27:15) “God created our bodies, it’s a good design, He knows what He’s doing. It’s safe to listen to our bodies. I feel like diet culture disconnects you from your body and tells you to not trust your body.” (35:34)   Links Find Erin Todd Online Find Intuitive Eating for Christian Women Online Follow Erin Todd on Instagram | Facebook | Pinterest Running an online health business? Apply for my Inner Circle Mastermind Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! GUEST: On today's episode, I talk to Joel Muddamalle. He is the Director of Theology for Proverbs 31 Ministries and is a PhD student at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with an emphasis in theology. Joel and I discuss God's original intent for Adam and Eve (and subsequently us) when He placed them in the Garden within the context of His Divine rest. WE ALSO DISCUSSED: The tension and mystery of trusting in the finished work of Christ as wholly sufficient AND as a result of that, we work. "Biblical Theology" ... what it is and why everybody should want to study it.  God's presence is rest! Rest and how it relates to our identity, our relationship with God, and our relationships with other people. (So freeing!) Progressive sanctification. The Gospel is like a river. Imago Dei: The image of God. It was not broken at the fall. What we need to discuss is the Status and Standard of the Imago Dei. QUOTES: "As we attempt to know God's Word, we will find it is knowing us." (Joel) "As a result of the fact that God has done the finishing work, I can partner with Him in the work He's assigned to me unto His glory that will ultimately be for my good." (Joel) "The Old Testament sets seeds for us to see come to fruition in the New Testament. Likewise, in the New Testament, we need to ask ourselves where are the echoes, allusions and development that has already been laid in the Old Testament." (Joel) "The mysteries of God are wrapped up in the special needs of my son." (Julie) CONNECT: To connect with Joel on... Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Muddamalle/. Host Tom Shaughnessy talks to Jake Ryan, Founder and general partner of Tradecraft Capital and author of an upcoming book on crypto investing. Jake discusses his prediction for the Age of Autonomy, the challenges of predicting where crypto will go, and more. FYI: We're looking for long term show sponsors. To be considered as a sponsor this show, contact Tom@DelphiDigital.io  Key Points: Society is at the end of the Age of Information and is headed into what Jake calls the Age of Autonomy. Competition drives adoption of new technologies. Automation and human intervention, and centralized and decentralized currencies, will likely always need to coexist. Quotes “As we see these technologies converge, we’re going to see orgs & businesses start to build autonomous operations, & businesses that don't have autonomous operations simply won’t be able to compete with those that do bc autonomy is the ultimate competitive advantage.” –Jake Ryan “Humans do a great job at envisioning the future and they do a really terrible time at timing it. It’s just too complex.” –Jake Ryan Episode Highlights: Jake’s book on crypto investing is set to come out in the first quarter of 2021. He moved from app development into angel investing about 5 years ago, which is what led him to crypto. Jake calls this the “age of autonomy,” based on theories of short-wave and long-wave economic cycles driven by technological revolutions. By autonomy, Jake is referring to automation, artificial intelligence, the internet of things, robotics, and now crypto. Jake sees us as being in the mature phase of the Age of Information. Jake urges us not to view these changes with judgment, as right or wrong, but simply as fact. He sees a future intersection of these various technologies, with blockchain as the glue between them. Automation will not drive out humans if we make more complex and decentralized governance systems, but overall, over decades, human intervention will become less and less required. The economy needs a currency that will ride the economy through inflation and deflation, and a currency that stores value well over time, and those appear to be mutually exclusive. Jake believes we won’t go to full decentralization but that we’ll always have both centralized and decentralized currencies. Your menstrual cycle gives you more indication into your body’s overall health than just whether you have a regular period or not. As Lisa Hendrickson-Jack shares, by charting your menstrual cycle, you can not only track your fertility, you can also uncover other health problems you might not be aware of. Lisa is a holistic reproductive health practitioner, the author of The Fifth Vital Sign, blogger and podcast host at Fertility Friday, and has been using fertility awareness for 20 years as her primary birth control. On this podcast, Lisa explains what aspects of your menstrual cycle you should notice and track, from the color of your period blood to the length of your bleed to how your cervical mucus changes throughout your cycle. Did you know that having pain during menstruation is actually a sign that your body isn’t at optimal health? We’re taught that women experiencing cramps is normal during our pre-menstrual time, but when is pain ever something normal? Pain is a sign that something is wrong in our body. Lisa explains how over our menstrual years, our cycle will change. When we first get our period, our cycles might be longer than what’s considered normal (24-35 days). But as long as your cycle falls inside these normal parameters as an adult, you probably don’t have anything to worry about, at least on this front. Ovulating regularly, and, in turn, having a regular period, is important for the entire health of your body. Regular ovulation helps regulate your hormone levels, especially progesterone, as this hormone is incredibly important for our overall health. This is one of the reasons why hormonal birth control can negatively impact our health - the pill essentially takes us into false menopause, disrupting the natural rhythm of our hormones. Lisa shares some more natural birth control methods, including fertility awareness and non-hormonal birth control. She explains exactly how long we’re fertile for during our cycle (10 days!) and why you should take extra precautions during this time to prevent pregnancy. Do you have a regular menstrual cycle? Have you ever charted your cycle changes? Do you experience painful cramping at the start of your period?   In This Episode: How charting your menstrual cycle can indicate other health problems What aspects of your menstrual cycle you should notice How much pain is normal during your menstrual cycle How your menstrual cycle will change as you age What role ovulation has for the health of your entire body How hormonal birth control negatively affects your health What some natural birth control methods are How long are you fertile for in your cycle   Quotes: “As women, we have this amazing gift to be able to track our health just by paying attention to our cycles.” (6:05) “Having healthy menstrual cycles, regular ovulatory cycles, ovulating, and producing progesterone is really important for us to achieve optimal health.” (19:54) “If you were to draw the blood of 6,000 women who are on the pill, they’re all going to have up to 60% lower testosterone than a woman who’s not on the pill.” (26:04)   Links Get Your Free Fertility Awareness Video Series Find Lisa Hendrickson-Jack Online Find Lisa Hendrickson-Jack on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter   Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

Desirée Adams is a wedding planner in Upstate New York who creates heirloom occasions for modern couples. After seven years producing high-level events for internationally-recognized companies in Washington, DC, she took a break to focus on her young children. But she couldn't stay away for long. Three years and three moves later, she founded Verve Event Co. in 2017. Focusing on efficiency and artful design, Desirée helps couples enjoy planning their modern wedding so they still have time for #allthethings. For her, life is too short to waste it on moments without meaning. Big Takeaways Though the idea of having your favorite band play your wedding might be super dreamy, keep in mind they might not know all they need to bring and be ready for. It is important to be sure the communication is excellent there, because unless they are a proper wedding band they probably aren't thinking about the logistics. They also likely are not local, so there is the need to consider the costs of travel, lodging, av equipment, etc. If you are going for the wedding festival feel, the main focus is usually on the music. Food trucks can be a fun alternative to catering. The guests can wander between food and the band. However, with the trucks there is no formal time aside for toasts. So it is important to think about the structure of the whole day. Food trucks do have a higher per person cost, since guests should be allowed to go up multiple times. It's important to think about how the trash will be collected, will you hire bussers? Without a proper catering team, you must be thinking about all the elements of the night. It's super important to consider the space you are doing this festival wedding in. Weather happens! Be in a space that allows some craziness, drainage for a downpour, room for the guests to wander, etc. Have a plan b and a plan c in case it does rain! Safety and security are huge if you're planning something like this. *Links We Referenced: * VerveEventCo.com Facebook, instagram, pinterest: @verveeventco *Quotes: * “As a planner, we're able to give these couples the time back with their family and friends.” - Desiree “If possible, I would have multiple food trucks, so there aren't lines.” - Desiree [On having someone come out and measure the space] “…then you know if you can actually fit or not… That's their job, to understand what their risks are of having your event in such an area.” -Desiree “If you're having a wedding festival-ish wedding, you're not doing it to have a wedding, you're doing it to have that festival concert experience.” - Desiree Get In Touch EMAIL: thebigweddingplanningpodcast@gmail.com FACEBOOK: @TBWPpodcast INSTAGRAM: @thebigweddingplanningpodcast BE SURE TO USE THE HASHTAG: #planthatwedding TWITTER: @TBWPpodcast PHONE: (415) 723-1625 Leave us a message and you might hear your voice on the show! What does your dog want more than anything else in the world? Even though we’re completely different species, there are some core things we have in common with our dogs. While we want the same things out of life for the most part, the trick lies in being able to communicate those things to one another. Often, we see our dogs effort to communicate as misbehaving or acting out, when really, they are just trying desperately to be heard. Are you recognizing your dog’s signs? Are you respecting their communication? Dogs have 3 major social needs that need to be fulfilled, similar to humans. In this episode of Enlightened By Dogs, Kathy gives us insight into what to look for when trying to listen to your dog, and how to strengthen the bond between you both by being present, connected and open to feedback from your best friend!   In This Episode Did you know that dogs and humans share a similar social intelligence? How dogs help us belong, and how we help them do the same. Meeting your dogs needs goes deeper than praising them or playing with them. What is your dog supposed to do when their human just isn’t getting it? The value of a feedback loop between you and your dog.   Quotes “As socially intelligent animals, both humans and dogs need to be appreciated and loved. We both need to feel like we belong.” “Behavior is Communication. Respect your dog’s communication as a valuable contribution to the relationship”   Want More of Kathy? It's well known that the source of many skin problems lies in the gut. In fact, you may have a sensitivity to a natural chemical in your food that is triggering an issue with your skin. The tricky part, though, is often identifying just what the chemical cause of that trigger is. My friend Jennifer Brand knows all about this. She's a certified nutrition specialist and an integrative functional and clinical nutritionist with a bachelors in nutrition and dietetics as well as two masters degrees in public health and human nutrition. Jennifer enjoys taking into account her clients' unique biochemistry using conventional and functional tests combined with a thorough case history while addressing problems using holistic and natural means. In this chat, Jennifer and I talk about common chemical triggers that occur naturally in food but can cause major flare-ups and problems in your skin without you even realizing it. We go on to discuss what you can do to try to identify a potential food trigger and how you can take charge of your gut and skin health by eliminating the chemicals that are causing problems.   In this episode: How impaired gut health impacts the skin's health in myriad ways The differences between food allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities Some common chemical triggers you might want to watch out for in what you eat Simple steps you can take to see if you have a food sensitivity   Quotes: “As you know, health begins in the gut. It's where 80% of our immune system is located. So when we have impaired gut health, it impacts all the systems of the body including the skin.” [2:58] “When you're doing an elimination diet … if you don't see results in one to two weeks, stop right there, it's something else. It should help quickly if you remove these things.” [8:29] “If you're finding that you are sensitive to these natural chemicals, it really warrants a look at your gut-health. That really does involve working with somebody who can help guide you through the process.” [14:34]   Links: Find Jennifer Brand online Get Jennifer's Skin Tools Watch Jennifer's interview at the Eczema & Psoriasis Awareness Week Do you have low stomach acid? The things you need to know about lender points.Quotes:"As you consider your loan options, you really need to look at your long term ownership plan as well as your willingness to actually pay points and that will really help you determine the best strategies so you can consult with a mortgage professional on this and they can give you some scenarios to look at."Show Notes: [00:03] We're talking lender points. These are mortgage points. What are they in? Should you pay them?[01:01] Lenders make money on loans in basically two ways. One is via the interest rate they charge. The higher the interest rate, the more money that they make when they sell the loan after it closes which typically happens. The other way they make money is to charge fees. [02:44] It may be okay to pay some points when you start looking at the lower interest rate that you may get and the fact that you're going to be in that home for a longer period of time. Maybe if you're going to be short term in a residence, then paying a point may not be beneficial.[03:43] Ultimately it's up to you, but that is what the professional is for. It's to give you the advice that you need and then help you make the right decision for yourself. If you like this episode of the Houston Inside Out podcast, please don't forget to like, share, and comment! All you business owners know that we spend a lot of time doing work that is necessary to run our business, but that falls outside our passions. You got into this to make videos, not handle accounting, payroll, and so on. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: it’s so important to bring people on board who can free up your time and energy so that you can focus on what really drives you and your craft. My guest knows a thing or two about this and how to make it work. Marc Womack is the founder of Sub7 in Columbus, Georgia. For nearly two decades, Mark has been working with some really amazing brands to create some kick-ass programming on country and outdoor living. Eight years ago he started Sub7 and has been crushing it ever since making TV shows, commercials, and brand management projects about the great outdoors. Today we talk about what it was like building a business that fits into a particular niche. Marc tells us why you can’t do it alone and how he built a successful business by relying on the talents of others as well as his own. There are some great nuggets of inspiration and advice in this interview that are definitely worth your consideration. Has building a team helped your business thrive and grow? Tell us about it in the comments on the episode page!   In this episode: Breaking out on your own with a brand new company Hiring help when your company is just starting out so that you can free up your time The three types of people you need working with you The importance of building and nurturing relationships that are central to the work you do What to consider when hiring freelancers and red flags to watch out for   Quotes: “As a business owner (whose just starting out) you are the accountant, project management, client management, shooter, DP, editor, production assistant. I mean, you’re taking out the trash! At the end of the day, it still rises and falls on what you can do and what work you can bring in.”  [22:53] “You have three different levels of people in your life. To be healthy, you need those three levels. You need somebody pouring into you, whether that be a mentor or a spiritual someone who's gone ahead of you in the faith. Somebody teaching you. You need contemporaries that you can bounce stuff off of… who understands where you are in business… And you also need people that you’re pouring into. [38:16] “If it’s something that’s not in your wheelhouse, don’t take it. Take the things that you know you can knock out of the park and let go of certain things because it’s going to end up hurting you more on the next three jobs that you could have had.”  [59:15]   Links: Build A Better Video Business With Our Exclusive Studio Sherpa Community Sub7’s Website Follow Marc on Facebook | Instagram Bone Collector   Help us make our 100th Episode Spectacular super special by sharing how Studio Sherpas has helped you in your business! Things all started in a junkyard. From there it was infomercials, trading robots and everything in between. I don’t want to ruin anything with details, but I will say our guest from the Inner Circle community, Trae (“traecampell77” in chat room), is a shining example of passion must be at the forefront of this business we call trading the markets. When you truly enjoy something, you can push through essentially anything thrown your way as you’ll see. Trae was a great guy to talk with and there are many things, big and little, you can learn from his journey… some of which will prove to be some money savers for you. Let’s go! Notes: Today we interview community member Trae. We commend him for pushing through with this podcast while being covered in poison oak. His introduction to the market was at an early age. His family owned a junkyard so he would hear them discussing metal prices and this intrigued him. One late evening, Trae stumbled upon a forex infomercial and he started to play on the demo without knowing what he was really doing yet. While he had a lot to learn, he discovered a love for the market which provides the motivation to learn more and trade better. He purchased a trading robot as well with a ‘100% win rate (because it holds a position until it’s profitable).’ It took him around 6 months to get out of the red and finally close his positions. This led to him taking a break but his interest in the market never left. During his break, his family opened up a car dealership and as it got more profitable Trae found more time to focus on the markets again. He made the move from scalping to swing trading. Trae realizes that psychology plays a huge role in trading. He has spent a considerable amount of time watching his own mentality and then also using crowd psychology to spot trade opportunities. Quotes: As a kid I would always hear ‘metal prices are up or down.’ I didn’t understand then but I was interested. I started trying to put it all together but it was a nightmare. There was nothing solid about it. But I loved the market. I shut the account down and walked away to take a break but something was always calling me back to those charts. Areas to improve always include psychology and removing emotion. It took 6-12 months to learn how to lose properly.

EE Leaders | Leadership Lessons Season 1: Episode 8 - Event Planning In this week’s Leadership Lessons, Pastor Daniel shares from his own experiences in event planning. An event is any time we gather together as a group. We want these events to be beneficial. “I’ve had my share of epic failures, but I want to learn from my mistakes, to get better, to improve.” Here are 10 principles for event planning. 1)Pray. Ask God for wisdom and vision. (James 1:5). 2)Have a goal/define success. What is the point of this event? (Proverbs 29:18) 3)Get others involved. Let people help. There are great benefits in working as a team. (1 Corinthians 12:21) 4)Listen. Ask for input. Brainstorm. (Ecclesiastes 4:9) 5)Traditions are great, but be creative. Try new things. (1 Corinthians 12:5-6) 6)Make the event worth the time and money. Communicate the why and how it can bring value to their life. 7)Pray for the people coming to the event, that they will be blessed. It’s easy to get so busy planning that you forget this step. 8)Communicate well. Make sure to communicate the details. Tell people what to expect. (Ecclesiastes 12:9-10) 9)Be flexible/adjust. “We want to act calmly when our plan doesn’t go the way we think it should.” Chuck Smith always said, “Blessed are the flexible, for they will not break.” 10)Follow up/evaluate after the event. Ask questions. What could we change to make it better? Do it while your team’s memory is fresh.God gives the grace to have a great event. “It’s a sweet privilege to be used by God in this way, to plan events and to bless people.” So those are the 10 principles of event planning. Now you take them and apply them in your own way in your own ministry, by the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s been a blessing to share them with you. In today’s One Piece of Advice, my friend, Robby Christmas, is going to talk about how it’s important to have a reproducible tool that you can share and pass on to other people. ___ Quotes: “As leaders we want our gatherings to serve a purpose, to align with our mission and vision, but really to bless people. We want those events to be beneficial.” -Daniel Williams “Don’t be afraid to use someone else’s ideas.” -Daniel Williams "From time to time you should change up the format. I love being able to bring in guest speakers. It creates a bit of freshness to be creative.” -Daniel Williams “We need to make sure we’re bringing value to our gatherings by doing the little things. Little things can bring a lot of value.” -Daniel Williams “God’s sovereignty is much better than our plans.” -Daniel Williams “We want to be good planners and plan great events, but God wants us to grow and exercise faith.” -Daniel Williams “If you want people under your leadership to be sharing the gospel, you have to model that.” -Robby Christmas

EE Leaders | Leadership Lessons Episode 6: Your Schedule In this jam-packed episode, Daniel talks about the importance of planning your schedule. Good planning is part of good stewardship, of managing your time wisely. But you can’t do that unless you know what you’re supposed to be doing. That starts with understanding the will of God for your life. Ask God to show you that. Seek it out. Hebrews 12:1 talks about the sins that “easily entangle” us. We need to be vigilant; we don’t want to be held back or tripped up by Satan’s schemes. “If God has told you to go left and you’re going right, that is not a very wise thing.” Then, based on what God has called you to do, what He says is valuable for you to do, plan your schedule. Implementing the plan is essential. Daniel shares a helpful tool for prioritizing your schedule by using four categories: 1)Important; 2)Unimportant; 3)Urgent; 4)Non-urgent. You will hear how he does it and how it can help you with your planning. God repeatedly reminds us in His word to make His priorities ours. Have an eternal perspective. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.(Colossians 3:2) Learn to say NO. This keeps you focused and productive. Go to God daily and set your schedule before Him. Then trust Him when things don’t go according to your plan. Be flexible, but schedule it. “What gets scheduled gets done.” (Michael Hyatt) Daniel walks you through his schedule to get an idea of what this looks like for him, including how to block your time and the invaluable practice of taking a sabbath day. And always remember Who your focus is; Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. (Proverbs 12:21) In this week’s One Piece of Advice, Pastor Lewis Williams reminds us of this very thing. ___ Quotes: “As a leader, as a Christian man, I want to be able to be a good steward and faithful to God and worship God with my time…and so I want to be aware of how I’m spending my time and I want to invest my time wisely." -Daniel Williams “Just because we’re busy does not mean we’re effective. We need to make sure we understand that. You can be busy but not be fruitful. Are you busy doing the right things and are you busy doing it in God’s strength, through His Spirit? -Daniel Williams “So we want to schedule our time, we want to plan according to the word of God and what He tells us that we should be valuing, what He tells us is important and unimportant.” -Daniel Williams “God is a planner. Before the foundations of the earth He planned to come and save us. He is an amazing planner!” -Daniel Williams “Planning has changed my life dramatically because it’s allowed me to say the simple word: NO.  Because when I know the things God has called me to do, I can say yes to those things and no to other things.” -Daniel Williams “In everything that we do, God should be somehow recognized—before, during and after, as Christians.” -Lewis Williams

We have Pastor Josh Cox on today to share about our partnership with him in planting Keystone Baptist Church in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Takeaways from this episode: Reproduce Corporately, not just individually Develop a culture of being a sending church If you hire a type A person, you must have a plan in place to send him out and allow him to be what God wants him to be Our strategy here at Rosedale is not to start a Rosedale B, but what God wants it to be We believe in accountability, and having processes in place to be accountable Quotes: “As we give out, God always has more coming in, then as we have more coming in, we have more being planted” Scott Tewell “We want to be a church that brings them in, trains them up, and sends them out” Scott Tewell “Our People celebrate the sending out of our Pastoral staff” Steve Smith “It is counterproductive to fight the process” Scott Tewell Practical Application: Develop a culture where your staff feels comfortable and not afraid to approach you about leaving to plant a church. Set up financial accountability to funnel money for them. Work together Spend time thinking about what you will need financially, spiritually, resource-wise, and timeline wise to get the church off the ground as soon as possible. “No guts. No glory.” That’s definitely the attitude our guest took when first entering into the markets. Romeo (chat room alias, “YankeesVsBoston”) has some very bizarre luck when he first started trading, leading to a very false sense of confidence. Enough confidence in fact to give him the guts to take a loan out to fund his trading account! Like I was saying, “go big or go home” was his philosophy early on. How’d that all work out? Was it a wise move on his part? Let’s find out… Notes: After graduating from college, Romeo decided to set some money aside to speculate in the market. He was not happy with the returns of CDs and savings accounts. This led him to the world of penny stocks. His initial penny stock purchase immediately went to 0 but to Romeo’s surprise, a few months later this ticker had a flurry of volume and tripled his money. This led him to believe he was the king of trading but continued to fuel his interest in the market. Romeo took a $5,000 loan to add to his trading account now and tried to utilize it on 2 trades but luckily for him, he could not get a fill and essentially avoided two massive pump and dumps that would have wiped his account out. Unfortunately, he went all in at the top of his next trade and sold the low to cover his first loan payment. This event led him to realize the importance of practicing his craft so he spent months paper trading to find what specific type of strategy worked best for him. After chatting with another member he decided to join CTU and further his education. His dedication was only further compounded by having his friend believe in him and give him a generous loan to help kickstart his trading attempt. At the time of this recording, Romeo is now trading full time and has almost completely cleared out his old debts. Quotes: “As soon as I bought it, it went straight to .0001 the next day. I thought ‘Wow, that’s it. It’s gone.’ “ tweet this quote “I finally got filled and it was at the very top. I held and sold at the bottom and barely had enough for the loan payment.” tweet this quote “I probably spent 6 hours of my time a day studying and studying. I had zombie eyes. I was really focused on what worked for me.” tweet this quote
