On this episode of Childproof: Parasocial Parenting we discuss mushroom allergies, mascots that are not in any way shape or form mascots but Gwenna nicknames everything inappropriately, and how toddlers and teenagers are alike but different. Also we discuss how gentle parenting doesn't mean never being mean. It just means being mean with purpose and intent and realizing that your kids can be mad even if you're being gentle. This week's mascot is the weird leaf bowl apparently common in Germany. Germany, sound off…is this yours? Is there one of these sitting in your home somewhere? Are you German or of German heritage? The start of summer means more kids everywhere. If your kids aren't in school yet you have no sympathy. We understand. But ours are home and we love them very much and miss quiet things and alone time. Two things can be true. This week on Childproof's Parasocial Parenting we're talking about uniforms for motherhood (Spoiler: There isn't one.), Gwenna's pathological demand avoidance about a webtoon, Mom RBF, realistic expectations of becoming an adult, planning for the near future and letting forever take care of itself. Programmation musicale : - Recite - Lim Giong - San Min Chu-i - Hymne de Taïwan (République de Chine) - Where I'm from - Dungi Sapor, Tjaka - A pure person - Jieh - A pure person (BO du film Millenium Mambo) - Lim Giong - Intro - Dungi Sapor.

Overthinking your parenting decisions? Replaying conversations in your head at night? Wondering if you handled that moment “the right way”? You're not alone—and you're definitely not broken. In this episode, I'm joined by Gwenna Laithland, author of Thinky Thoughts, to talk about what's really going on in that busy, overthinking brain of yours. Because what if all that mental spiraling isn't a flaw… but actually a sign that you care deeply—and a tool you can learn to use? Gwenna shares how her own “thinky thoughts” shaped her parenting, her healing journey, and the way she shows up for her kids today. We get into the messy, honest reality of adulting, why so many of us feel like we're still figuring it out as we go, and how overthinking can actually lead to more intentional, connected parenting. If you've ever questioned yourself as a mom, this conversation will feel like a deep exhale. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why overthinking doesn't mean you're failing—it means you're paying attention How childhood experiences shape the way we react as parents The difference between guiding your child and shaming them Why “doing better” in parenting starts with understanding yourself How overthinking can actually help you become a more responsive, intentional parent The truth about adulting (hint: most of us are figuring it out as we go) Why This Episode Matters So many overwhelmed moms carry the quiet belief that if they just thought less, worried less, or reacted less, they'd finally be a “better” parent. But the truth is, your brain isn't the problem. That constant thinking often comes from a place of wanting to get it right, to break old patterns, and to give your kids something different than what you had. This episode reframes overthinking as something you can work with instead of something you need to fix, so you can move out of self-doubt and into more confident, connected parenting. On this episode of Childproof Gwenna and Tori discuss things. Okay, full disclosure for the seventeen people that read notes and descriptions, we recorded this and then Oklahoma and Kentucky both exploded with influenza. Everyone was sick. Stuff got paused while we all healed. It was rough. No one had any fun. Show notes didn't get written and by the time they got back to it Gwenna, who writes the descriptions forgot what we talked about and Tori, who edits the episodes cannot be trusted to write descriptions. So now you know this is a podcast hosted and run by two people who have no idea what they are doing and should be better at this by now. We want to hear from you! Parenting with and through anxiety can give a person anxiety. How do I overcome my irrational (and sometimes rational) fears to let my children grow up with a healthy relationship with their own fear and anxiety? If being a worrywart is contagious, how do I make sure I'm avoiding anxious sneezing all over my kids? A few mental tricks, a few just biting down and doing it scared, and a little exposure therapy has worked for Gwenna and Tori. What do you mean I have to choose every meal I eat for the rest of my life? What do you mean I'm responsible for choosing what most everyone in this house eats for the foreseeable future? And I have to pick outfits. And extracurriculars. And snacks. And bedtimes. And time management. And that's a lot of choices and I do not feel qualified to make them.
