Každý detektív z oddelenia vrážd raz urobí chybu, tento rok to vyšlo na Hanzela - prihlásil sa do služby rovno na Štedrý deň. Prihlásil sa dobrovoľne, čo nešlo kolegom do hlavy. Všetci ho odhovárali, argumentovali, že po Burgerovi je najstarší detektív na oddelení, má právo na oddych a majú dosť mladých, ktorí na sviatky ešte neslúžili. Darmo, Hanzel sa zaťal. Chlapci z kancelárie stoštyridsaťjeden tušili, o čo ide, a Hanzel im to aj krátko pred sviatkami vysvetlil – v tom roku na jar mu po ťažkej chorobe zomrela manželka a najväčšie sviatky v roku si bez nej nevedel predstaviť. Prežíval ťažké duševné stavy, rozhodol sa ich liečiť prácou. Dobrovoľne sa prihlásil do služby, pričom tajne dúfal, že bude pokojná. Mýlil sa. Hneď ráno zomrel na operačnom stole muž s dýkou v chrbte, chvíľu na to bez stopy zmizla krásna Klaudia, a aby toho nebolo dosť, tretia mŕtvola čakala na Hanzela rozpleštená na chodníku pod dvanásťposchodovým panelákom. Detektív z oddelenia vrážd je na všetko sám, každý, komu zavolá o pomoc, sa vyhovára, že sú Vianoce. Naozaj sú, ale policajné, služobné a Oto Hanzel dostal nepríjemnú vianočnú nádielku – tri mŕtvoly za jeden deň. Neváha, pustí sa do rozplietania jedného prípadu za druhým. Ako sa mu to podarí, sa dozviete, keď si vypočujete túto vianočnú dánovku.
