Before diving into the wild weekend that was in the world of NHL and fantasy hockey, the boys quickly share their thoughts and fantasy hockey opinions on the continuing situation with the Vancouver Canucks and most recently the firing of fan favourite Bruce Boudreau - who both Steele and Flip agree deserved so much better than what the Canucks' front-office followed through on. Of course we also breakdown the fantasy hockey impact of injuries to such major pieces as Carolina Hurricanes forward Max Pacioretty who is once again on long-term IR with the same torn achilles injury. We also discuss the fantasy fallout of the shoulder injury that will shelve Montreal Canadiens stud fantasy piece Cole Caufield, who was on pace to potentially crack the 40-goal mark. Lastly on the injury front, we have to mention the day-to-day ailment for Washington Capitals captain and leader Alex Ovechkin. How long will he be out? Monday's of course are for the top fantasy hockey waiver-wire adds for the upcoming week, which for Flip and Steele include the likes of Victor Oloffsson of the Buffalo Sabres, Anton Lundell of the Florida Panthers, and even the likes of Ondrej Palat of the New Jersey Devils and even Jordan Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes. You might also want to consider in net with Sabres rookie Ukko-Pekka Luukonen. Thanks for making Locked On Fantasy Hockey your 1st listen, every day. Lindy Ruff finally made some changes to the lineup during a recent New Jersey Devils practice. Yegor Sharangovich and Dawson Mercer were practicing with Jack Hughes, while Erik Haula and Ondrej Palat were placed on the third line. This is a smart move by Ruff because it helps spreads out our scoring options in more ways than one. The New Jersey Devils' lengthy losing streak at home continues. This time they fell to the St. Louis Blues 5-3, despite Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O'Reilly both being out with injuries. On the bright side, Ondrej Palat is finally back from injury and Jack Hughes was named an all-star once again. I believe a simple change of the lineup (involving both Haula and Palat) can go a long way for Lindy Ruff. Ever since Nathan Bastian got injured, the New Jersey Devils have struggled with their depth. However, that might change within the next couple of days. Because, according to Lindy Ruff, Ondrej Palat (Groin) has been upgraded to day-to-day. His return could be significant for a struggling New Jersey Devils team. The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Islanders 4-1 in their second preseason game. The H20 line (Jack Hughes, Alexander Holtz, & Ondrej Palat) impressed once again. This raises some compelling questions in regard to the Devils' opening night roster structure. Subscribe to Locked On Devils! Pete and Nick catch up after the big NHL moves so far this offseason with fantasy spins and reaction from a Stanley Cup futures betting standpoint. The guys break down the biggest signings, including Johnny Gaudreau to the Blue Jackets, Claude Giroux to the Senators, Jack Campbell to the Oilers, Darcy Kuemper to the Capitals, Ondrej Palat to the Devils, and the most notable trades, including Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty to the Hurricanes, Alex DeBrincat and Cam Talbot to Ottawa, Kevin Fiala to the Kings, Ville Husso to the Red Wings, Alexandar Georgiev to the Avalanche and more. The guys also mention various sleeper moves, the impact of the Canadiens' big splash while hosting the NHL Draft and identify the winners and losers of the offseason to this point.
Despite not landing the big fish, the Devils still improved through free agency so far with Ondrej Palat and Brendan Smith being brought into the fold while Erik Haula and John Marino arrived via trade. What does this mean for some of the team's mainstays like Damon Severson? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
With a heatwave on the way here in the Northeast this coming week, your speakers or earbuds will feel the affect as I'll keep the airwaves sizzling with sports talk unlike any other. On deck: (4:17) The All-Star Break has arrived in baseball as Los Angeles will be the backdrop for the Home Run Derby and the game itself over the next couple of days. A huge story coming out of the weekend was Juan Soto declining a 15 year, $440 million dollar contract from the Nationals. Does this all fall on the shoulders of Soto? What would a team have to trade in order to procure his services? I'll do a deep dive on this topic, and of course, the mastermind behind this being his agent, Scott Boras. I'll recap the past weekend in the sport (i.e. Mariners win streak at 14, Orioles & Red Sox slide, Yankees pitching rotation loss and affect on their staff, Mets status quo in the NL East and more) Plus, my thoughts on the Derby and the All-Star Game as I share my experience of witnessing one in person nine years ago. To close out, I'll get into the ESPN Derek Jeter docu-series that begins tonight. How much should we expect from the Yankee great to open up about his life and career? I'll explain in detail. (33:30) Rory McIlroy was staring at his first major tournament win in eight years, but Cam Smith was brilliant down the stretch to claim his first ever Grand slam victory at The Open in St. Andrews. Did Smith win? Or did Rory lose? Also, Tiger Woods did not make the cut as he became emotional walking up toward the 18th hole on Friday. Could this be the beginning of the end for the all time great? Is retirement a possibility? (44:41) The Phoenix Suns match the offer sheet by the Indiana Pacers, paying him $133 million dollars over the next four years. Despite the Suns putting their money where their mouths are, were they reluctant to do so? (49:00) NHL free agency has quieted down, but the Devils have made a couple of key moves (defenseman John Marino and winger Ondrej Palat) to bolster their roster and chances to bring respectability to the franchise. While the Islanders have stood pat, remained silent (besides acquiring a defenseman from the Canadiens) and has yours truly wondering which direction the organization is going!? The early busy offseason continue for Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes who continues to have a strong summer improving his team from top-to-bottom. The recent rumblings from Pierre-Luc Dubois and a potential exit from the Winnipeg Jets adds another layer of intrigue to the Canadiens' offseason as well the fantasy landscape. Speaking of which, some depth moves from both the Canadiens and New Jersey Devils with the additions of Mike Matheson and John Marino, respectively, improve the blue lines for both clubs and free up some space for their forward groups. Do not sleep on the potential of the New Jersey Devils and the likes of Dawson Mercer, Jesper Bratt, Jack Hughes, Ondrej Palat, Dougie Hamilton, and more. Finally, to wrap up the show, Steele and Flip take a look at some depth moves from the Toronto Maple Leafs and the additions of Jordie Benn, Victor Mete, and most impactfully, Calle Jarnkrok. In the right fantasy hockey league or situation, any one of those players could make the difference for your squad. Thanks for making Locked On Fantasy Hockey your 1st listen, every day. With no shortage of topics to discuss in the wild world of the NHL's offseason, Steele and Flip take a look into why in the world Johnny Gaudreau would choose a team like the Columbus Blue Jackets and what signing in a small market will mean for both his and his teammates fantasy value overall. The Ottawa Senators continue to make impressive offseason moves that immediately make them relevant in the Atlantic Division and even more so on the fantasy hockey front. Josh Norris secures the bag and solidifies an already stacked top-six forward group that features the likes of Drake Batherson, Brady Tkachuk, Alex DeBrincat and more. Ondrej Palat makes a nice addition for the New Jersey Devils offensive attack, and all of a sudden that team is one to watch. Where will Nazem Kadri land? Or even John Klingberg? Free Agency opens today in the NHL, and for one final time we talk about the free agents available. But this time, we try and give our earnest predictions on what players will fit the Red Wings molds the best. Could it be LW Ondrej Palat? Or maybe they will target a C like Trocheck or the Strome brothers. Defense could always use bolstering and Brett Kulak and Nikita Zadorov would do just that. #lgrw Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! NHL Free Agency is upon us and the question on everyone's mind is will Johnny Gaudreau resign with the Calgary Flames or will he become a Philadelphia Flyer? Tonight, we look into what the future holds for the All Star Left Wing. What happens if the Flyers are unable to secure Gaudreau? Would they possibly look at another Flame in Matthew Tkachuk, who Calgary is also looking to ink to a long-term contract? Or will the Flyers turn their attention towards their Keystone State rivals and steal Evgeni Malkin from the Pittsburgh Penguins? It's become clear, if the Pens are going to bring Malkin back, it will be on their terms, not his. The club prioritized re-signing Kris Letang and got that done by signing the defenseman to a six-year, $36.6 million contract ($6.1 million AAV). Also on the show, we'll predict if Patrice Bergeron will take one last ride with the Boston Bruins or call it a career. Will David Krejci return to both the NHL and Bruins? Also, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres all in the market for a No. 1 goalie, where will UFA netminders Darcy Kuemper (fresh off a Stanley Cup win), Jack Campbell, Braden Holtby, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss and Martin Jones land? Matt Murray, was on the table but late Monday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs picked him up along with a 2023 3rd round draft pick & a 7th round pick in 2024 for future considerations. The New York Rangers now need a backup to Vezina-winning goalie Igor Shesterkin after trading Alexandar Georgiev to the Colorado Avalanche. But a more pressing issue will be signing a second-line center with both Ryan Strome and Andrew Copp becoming unrestricted free agents. The Stanley Cup champs have a busy offseason in store with many FAs, and Nazem Kadri tops the list. Ondrej Palat could be one of the steals of this free-agent class if the Tampa Bay Lightning can't sign the forward. And John Klingberg could be on the move, as well! Will old friend Claude Giroux move back home and sign with the Ottawa Senators now that they have acquired Alex DeBrincat? Answers to these questions and more plus a review of the 2022 NHL Draft, and don't forget the Shootout, where the boys hit on rapid-fire topics to close us out!

Pete and Nick are joined by David Satriano of NHL.com to break down all angles of the Stanley Cup Final and spin things forward from a fantasy and betting perspective. The guys discuss big performances from Andre Burakovsky, Valeri Nichushkin, Bowen Byram and Ondrej Palat, how the Lightning will likely respond from here after rallying to tie the opener and the impact of Brayden Point returning from injury. They also update the Conn Smythe Trophy race and have the fantasy spin on the Vegas Golden Knights hiring Bruce Cassidy with their fantasy bounce-back candidates, goalie outlook and renewed Stanley Cup futures appeal for next season.
