In Podcast Episode 124, “More Than Conquerors: The Giant of Hopelessness vs. The Lord of Heaven's Armies,” Kim discusses the giant of hopelessness that seeks to envelop so many in a thick blanket of darkness. The past year and a half left many of us feeling defenseless. We fear loss: of health, of a career, of our stability and way of life. And not just for ourselves, but perhaps even more, for those we love. But while we are powerless to stop catastrophes and setbacks from occurring, we are far from defenseless. We belong to and are deeply loved by Jehovah-Sabaoth, the God of Heaven's Armies. In today's episode, author and international speaker Grace Fox shares a story of a time when fear for her kids stole her peace and left her sleep-deprived, how she found comfort and strength in Jehovah-Sabaoth, and how that taught her to deal with fear. In Podcast Episode 123, “More Than Conquerors: The Giant of Pride vs. The Lord of Heaven's Armies,” Kim discusses the many faces of the giant of pride. Many equate the sin of pride to someone like Goliath, who is so obviously full of himself and his perceived self-worth. Yet, loud proclamations of how great you think you are is not the only manifestation of pride. We see another element of pride in Eliab, David's older brother, and we will also look at the faces of pride from the two sons described in the story most commonly referred to as “The Prodigal Son” in the Gospel of Luke. The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verses 8-11, 28. 8 Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! 9 If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves! 10 I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!” 11 When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken. 28 But when David's oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you're supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!” Additional Verses: Luke 15:11-32 The Parable of the Prodigal Son Weekly Assignment Feature: Humble yourself before the Lord and invite Him to search you and know your heart, point out any offensive way, and lead you in the way everlasting (ref. 139:23-24). In Podcast Episode 122, “More Than Conquerors: The Giant of “Refusing to Forgive” vs. The Lord of Heaven's Armies,” Kim discusses the giant of “Refusing to Forgive.” One of Satan's greatest weapons is convincing us to hold on to the poison of bitterness. The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verses 4-7, 33. Additional Verses: “Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. He couldn't pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.' Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,' he pleaded. But his creditor wouldn't wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn't you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?' Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. “That's what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters” Matthew 18:21-35 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34a) Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32) Weekly Assignment Feature: Commit to draining the poison of bitterness from your heart by choosing to forgive at least one person. Additional Resources: “Facing Your Giants: God Still Does the Impossible” by Max Lucado “Goliath Must Fall: Winning the Battle Against Your Giants” by Louie Giglio "Dear Lord. In Podcast Episode 121, “More Than Conquerors: The Giant of ‘Not As I Planned' vs. The Lord of Heaven's Armies,” Kim discusses the giant of “not as I planned.” All of us have experienced disappointments and ended up in places that are not as we had planned. Focusing on the closed-door can keep you from becoming who God created you to be. The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verses 4-7, 33: 4 Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! 5 He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds. 6 He also wore bronze leg armor, and he carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder. 7 The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver's beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds. His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield. 33 “Don't be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There's no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You're only a boy, and he's been a man of war since his youth.” Additional Verses: 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9) 2 “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. (Job 42:2) 27 The Lord of Heaven's Armies has spoken— who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?” (Isaiah 14:27) Weekly Assignment Feature: Is there a closed door in your life which still takes your focus from all God has for you now and beyond? In Podcast Episode 120, “More Than Conquerors: The Giant of Grief vs. The Lord of Heaven's Armies,” Kim discusses the giant of grief, which is a giant we all must face. Yet, even the largest and most painful giants of grief pale in comparison to the healing power of the Lord of heaven's armies. The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verses 4-7, 33: 4 Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. (Romans 8:37 NIV) “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” (Ps. 147:3) 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:4) He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. (2 Corinthians 1:4) 13 As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. (Matthew 14:13) 33 When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled. 34 “Where have you put him?” he asked them. They told him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Then Jesus wept. In Podcast Episode 118, “More Than Conquerors: The Lord of Heaven's Armies,” Kim discusses multiple foci in the story of David and Goliath. David was the one person to focus appropriately on the Lord of Heaven's Armies, and his focus made the biggest difference between utter defeat (or a no-show) and being a conduit for the Lord's victory. The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verse 45-47: 45 David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven's Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! 47 And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord's battle, and he will give you to us!” (! Samuel 17:45-47) 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37 NIV) Weekly Assignment Feature: Spend at least 5 minutes each day meditating on and praising the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "Where Was the Focus?" Saul and the Israelite army--Focused on "the Giant," both his huge body and his reputation as the "champion." Eliab (David's oldest brother)--Focused on his perception of his baby brother's abilities. Goliath--Focused on himself and what he believed he could do. In Podcast Episode 93, “The Lord of Heaven's Armies Is Not at Your Beck and Call,” Kim discusses the belief that the God of the universe can be accessed from a position of human pride. There are big differences between truly seeking God and only seeking Him for what He can do for you. In today's story, the Israelites acted as though the Lord of Heaven's Armies was at their beck and call, and, instead of an automatic victory, this led to a humiliating defeat. The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 4:1-11, with focal verses 3-5. 1 And Samuel's words went out to all the people of Israel. At that time Israel was at war with the Philistines. The Israelite army was camped near Ebenezer, and the Philistines were at Aphek. 2 The Philistines attacked and defeated the army of Israel, killing 4,000 men. 3 After the battle was over, the troops retreated to their camp, and the elders of Israel asked, “Why did the Lord allow us to be defeated by the Philistines?” Then they said, “Let's bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord from Shiloh. If we carry it into battle with us, it will save us from our enemies.” 4 So they sent men to Shiloh to bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord of Heaven's Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim. Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli, were also there with the Ark of the Covenant of God. 5 When all the Israelites saw the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord coming into the camp, their shout of joy was so loud it made the ground shake! 6 “What's going on?” the Philistines asked. “What's all the shouting about in the Hebrew camp?” When they were told it was because the Ark of the Lord had arrived, 7 they panicked. “The gods have come into their camp!” they cried. “This is a disaster! We have never had to face anything like this before! 8 Help! Who can save us from these mighty gods of Israel? They are the same gods who destroyed the Egyptians with plagues when Israel was in the wilderness. 9 Fight as never before, Philistines! If you don't, we will become the Hebrews' slaves just as they have been ours! Stand up like men and fight!” 10 So the Philistines fought desperately, and Israel was defeated again. The slaughter was great; 30,000 Israelite soldiers died that day. The survivors turned and fled to their tents. 11 The Ark of God was captured, and Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were killed. Think Spot - 8 June 2020 G'day and welcome to Partakers! Welcome also to Monday and our Think Spot together! I wonder what your last week was like! I know for me it was full of trial and yet with a deep-seated trust that God was in control, despite the events and discouragements I was undergoing! So, whether it was a week for you to forget or a week for you to remember, we now enter a new week! Last week we thought about trusting God in all circumstances! One of the natural outcomes of trusting God is joy - often an unspeakable joy that bubbles within you! A joy resulting from overcoming all that life throws at you, and overcoming those hurdles! It involves taking a daily commitment to follow Jesus Christ and not just a one off. It takes commitment, not comfort, to throw off hindrances and barriers. True joy results from being willing to allow the Holy Spirit to work in you, transforming you into the image of Jesus Christ, to the praise and glory of God the Father. All of these things being done daily in your life lead to what I am convinced is the key to the reality of a successful Christian life - that key being joy. As you grow closer to Jesus, living in peace, trust and obedience, then your spiritual life will be your natural life and your natural life be your spiritual life! Your joy will abound and shine a light giving people a reason to ask "Where do you get all your joyous hope from?". You will then be able to· share Jesus as your source of joy. A joy that is anticipatory, expectant and true! Joy comes from putting Jesus first, others next and then yourself! Go practise it this week! ~~ You can show this joy by singing, laughing, smiling, shouting praises to God, lifting hands in worship', and crying, but that is only the external part of joy. True joy also incorporates an internal joy. Real joy is when you can believe in: the mountain top when you are in your deepest valley. Abundant joy is being surrounded by darkness and still believing in 'the light'. Anticipatory joy is when amidst total confusion you still believe God has a plan of love for you. It was this type of joy that Jesus had, when in the garden praying, the night before he was betrayed, when full of mixed emotions and anguish he said "Not my will, but yours, Father!" As sons and daughters of God, we have many reasons to be full of joy. Yet how often we forget! Here are some reasons for joy! Psalm 51:8 & 12 - Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me-now let me rejoice. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Jeremiah 15:16 - When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven's Armies. Luke 15:8-10 "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won't she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbours and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.' In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God's angels when even one sinner repents." 1 Peter 1:8-9 - You love Jesus Christ even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. Do you desire to be' overflowing with joy today and this week? Go into this week with a joy that is anticipating and expectant! Do you need to hand over to Jesus a particular area of your life' where Jesus does not fully reign and have control? I pray that the Father will reveal more of Himself to you, as you daily seek His face, overcoming all hindrances to living a successful and joyful-Christian life. May the Holy Spirit who lives within you, if you are a Christian, continue to transform you into the image of the Son Jesus Christ, and all to the praise and glory of God the Father. Amen. The holiday season. You've been waiting so long for it. Amidst all the commercials and Hallmark Channel movies, remember the reason for this time of year. We celebrate the coming of the King of kings. He is the God of Heaven's Armies. His Name is Jesus!
Top 5 American fears: 74.5% fear that corrupt government officials are going to ruin our lives by ruining our country. Our health care system will get so messed up that people either won't be able to get the health care they need or that the high cost of medical bills will ruin their lives. Air pollution, global warming, species extinction and a lack of good water will throw the world into chaos. 50% of all Americans are fearful that they won't have enough money for the future. Someone they love will die or get seriously ill. Fear is everywhere...it is constant and for many it's unending. Psalm 46 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. 2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude 4 A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. 5 God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. 6 The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God's voice thunders, and the earth melts! 7 The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel[b] is our fortress. Interlude 8 Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world. 9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10 "Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." 11 The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude Psalm 46 is truly unique among all the psalms and the reason is right in the first words...the stuff before verse 1. It reads: "For the choir; a song of the descendants of Korah. To be sung by the soprano voices." The descendants of Korah were a well-known, musical Jewish family. They had a long history of leading the musical worship at the temple. Psalm 46 is in the middle of 9 Korah-family psalms. This Psalm is unique in that it is the only psalm of all 150 psalms that says it is to be sung by soprano voices...or as the note at the bottom of the page in my NLT Bible says, "according to Alamoth." Alamoth means: a young, unmarried, virgin girl who is right at the prime marrying age...and the prime marrying age for girls at this time was 11-12. So, this psalm was written specifically to be sung by a choir of 11 or 12-year-old girls. Girls of this age, in that time, were not normally allowed out in public. Some have said these would have been boys, not girls, but the Hebrew is clearly feminine! I.m sure that you all know that at 11:00 am every Friday morning the weather alert siren sounds all throughout central Indiana. And no one pays any attention to it. But if that siren sounds at 11:00 pm on a Wednesday night, everyone takes notice. Putting this message in the mouths of, literally, the last people in all of Israel that anyone would have expected to see or hear doing anything at the temple, eleven-year-old girls, would have been like hearing an 11:00 pm siren on a Wednesday night! Their voices were a siren saying, "Take notice! We have something important to tell you and you need to pay attention!" The two primary fears of the ancient, Jewish world: A natural disaster. These would have come unexpectedly. They had no warning systems and people lived in the fear of nature turning on them. An invasion by an evil nation. This, too, would have come on unexpectedly. This was a real fear in the ancient world. Even if the invaders' ultimate intentions had to do with another nation they would run over any other people that happened to be in their way. God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Hearing the unexpected voices of young girls singing this line forced the question, "Do I really believe that God is always ready to help me in times of trouble?" The next line lets us know that the choir girls believed this was true! So, we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! The Hebrew word that is translated "interlude" in the NLT is "Selah" (Say-la) and it is a word that told the music director to "place an instrumental pause here to give the people an opportunity to think about what was just sung." And then we get to the second great fear: an invasion by a hostile army. The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God's voice thunders, and the earth melts! Young girls are reminding us that our God is far more powerful than any invading nation. God can simply speak, and everything will melt! The word translated "melts" here, comes from the Hebrew word "moog"and it means "to be helplessly disorganized." 7 The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. "No, we shouldn't live in the fear of being invaded by evil forces, because, "The Lord of heavens armies is here among us!" Now, this phrase "Heaven's Armies" comes from one Hebrew word "tsavah," a word that almost always means "a gathered army" and it is usually translated with the word. Think of the angels gathered to tell the shepherds that Jesus was born: the heavenly hosts. We see these hosts in 2 Kings when Elisha's servant needs encouragement. God gave this young man the ability to see the angels gathered to defend him and his comment is, "There are more who are with us than against us!" This is clearly a part of the Biblical story: God has an army ready to defend us. "God is our fortress." The Hebrew word "misgav,"; gives us fortress. It literally means "a place on a high cliff; an inaccessible spot of security and safety." Verses 8-9 call on the Jewish people to remember how God has acted in the past to end chaotic times...let';s read these verses. 8 Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world. 9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. These times are: the flood, Sodom, the crossing of the Red sea, the confusion of the enemies who have come to attack Israel. Most times God uses his own natural forces to accomplish these "works." It is a sign that he can use something people fear for his own purposes! 10 Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. "Be still" comes from the Hebrew word, "raphah." It means to sink down, to relax, to drop your hands from working or to let something drop out of your hands; it can mean to abandon a task or stop working at something. I'm sure you get the picture. The voice of God, which in the moment, remember sounds like the voices of young girls singing, is telling us that whatever it is that we fear, He is God, the nations will honor Him (that takes care of one great fear), and His entire creation will honor Him (that takes care of the other great fear). So, be still, relax and know that I am with you and I will take care of you! And then the psalm ends with a repeat of its chorus, chorus that once again reminds us that we are surrounded by God's army and that he is our place of safety! The question is what do we do? Well, first, let's start by stating the facts from Psalm 46: 1) God created the earth. He is in charge of it and that means he is in charge of everyone and everything in his world. That is a fact we can hold on to. 2) God is present, and he also has an army of angels, a heavenly host, surrounding us. We see this as a reality far too many times in the Bible for God to be fooling us about this. And now that we have the facts, here are some practical things you can do to face your fears: first, make two lists: one of your fears, and one of the times that God has overcome your fears. Commit to doing what you know you can and should do related to facing your fears. Every Friday at 11:00 in the morning, if you hear that siren, no matter what your fears might be in that moment, let that siren be the sound that reminds you that you can "be still", let that siren remind you that your God is present with you and his army is surrounding you...let that siren be the unexpected voice that gives you the courage to say, "Bring it on. I will not be afraid because my God is my fortress."

The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [7] His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen! Mary and Joseph: The birth of Jesus 瑪利亞和約瑟:耶穌的誕生 The shepherds and the angels 牧羊人和天使 The 3 Kings from the East 3個從東方來的博士 Christmas : God came to meet us 聖誕節:神降臨到世上與我們相遇 John 3:16-17 NLT [16] "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. [17] God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. 約翰福音 3章16-17節 (NCV) 神愛世人,甚至把他的獨生子賜給他們,叫一切信他的,不至滅亡,反得永生。因為 神差他的兒子到世上來,不是要定世人的罪,而是要使世人藉著他得救。
Think Spot - 13 August 2018 We now enter a new week! Do you claim to trust God? How is trust in God exhibited? You can show this joy by singing, laughing, smiling, shouting praises to God, lifting hands in worship', and crying, but that is only the external part of joy. For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." Romans 10:13 NKJV This morning as I read these words in Romans 10:13 I started thinking about when I was walking past Harry's Cafe de Wheels in Woolloomoolloo, Sydney, and I called on the name of the LORD. That was the day when I really started to live. In taking that step of faith, over twenty years ago, to believe there was a God who loved me and wanted to have a relationship with me, my life instantly had the meaning that I had been craving for. I felt a peace that I had not felt before. I knew I my heart had found home. Scripture reassures us, "No one who trusts God like this - heart and soul - will ever regret it." It's exactly the same no matter what a person's religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. "Everyone who calls, 'Help, God!' gets help. Romans 10:11-13 The Message I have not had one regret in asking Jesus to be my Lord and Saviour. There has only been an ever-growing gratefulness for His love and mercy in my life, combined with a peace of knowing that I don't have to strive anymore. I know the truth. I know there is a God is heaven who speaks to me every day through scripture, through promptings of the Holy Spirit, through people and through His creation. I know there is a Jesus who understands suffering and pain, and who made a way in His own suffering and pain for me to have that intimate relationship with my Heavenly Father. I know there is a heaven, and that by the grace of God that's where I am going, one day, for eternity. I know that today, while I am still here on earth, I am not forsaken, not for a second. And neither are you. God, your wrap-around presence is our defense. In your kindness look upon the faces of your anointed ones. For just one day of intimacy with you is like a thousand days of joy rolled into one! I'd rather stand at the threshold in front of the Gate Beautiful, ready to go in and worship my God, than to live my life without you in the most beautiful place of the wicked. For the Lord God is brighter than the brilliance of a sunrise! Wrapping himself around me like a shield, he is so generous with his gifts of grace and glory. Those who walk along his paths with integrity will never lack one thing they need, for he provides it all! O Lord of Heaven's Armies, what euphoria fills those who forever trust in you! Psalm 84:9-12 The Passion Translation Heavenly Father, thank you that your wrap-around presence is our defense. Thank you that you loved us enough to give us a way to come back into right standing with you. Thank you Jesus for making that way. Thank you that there are no regrets in living life your way. Help us to trust you more today, and receive your love and grace more fully so we can be the blessing you've called us to be. In Jesus Name, Amen.
