A Pennsylvania man demolished his own house with an excavator after his wife said the marriage was over — which is a wild story, but also a useful case study in what not to do when you're angry. Jim Carrey showed up to a French awards ceremony looking unrecognizable, which opens a bigger conversation about image, aging, and why the only foundation for genuine self-acceptance is knowing you are created in the image of God, fearfully and wonderfully made. Carl Truman has coined a new term — Gig Eva — and it's more concerning than Big Eva: online evangelical influencers who are accountable to no one, may not even be real, and are quietly replacing the local church as the primary discipleship vehicle for millions. Mitt Romney told Harvard Business School graduates that the true measure of wealth is the people you love and your friends — which is either obvious or convicting depending on how you're actually spending your time. Nate Bargatze on why not cursing actually gives you more freedom as a comedian, and what that says about being distinctively different in your field. And a closing devotion from Charles Stanley on the stages of the Christian journey — recognizing where God is working right now, and why we all need people ahead of us, behind us, and alongside us in the race.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Možná nám pokyn milovat sám sebe připadá nebiblický. Charles Stanley nás chce přesvědčit o opaku. Bůh nás všechny miluje naprosto stejně. A Bůh také chce, abychom měli rádi i sebe, abychom i sami k sobě měli čistou a hlubokou úctu.Tento podcast můžete podpořit na https://radio7.cz

Brian From is fresh off a monumental weekend — his oldest daughter Madeline's college graduation at Hope College in Holland, Michigan — and the joy of that milestone runs through this whole hour. But the reflections go deeper than cap and gown. The chaplain's baccalaureate message on 2 Corinthians 2 leaves Brian with a simple, searching question: when people are in your presence, do they get a whiff of Christ? Then, a throwaway line from Nike's new CEO — "we struggle when we forget who we are serving" — turns into a pointed word for the church and for anyone whose life has quietly drifted toward self. Plus: a Wall Street Journal piece on the rise of the "beta mom" and why the pendulum may have swung too far, new survey data suggesting peak life satisfaction hits at age 52 (good news for Brian at 49), a Gospel Coalition piece on the most alarming political divide in Gen Z — and it's not Democrat vs. Republican — and a closing devotion from Charles Stanley on what it actually means to be aware of God's presence in your daily life, not just on Sundays.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's Brian's birthday — 49 years old and staring 50 in the face — and that milestone has him in a reflective mood. On this episode of The Common Good, Brian weaves together a handful of compelling threads: the challenging call to forgive even when bitterness feels justified, a sobering statistic about one-third of Americans currently experiencing an existential crisis, the Kentucky Derby's surprise winner and the life lesson it carries, and a powerful warning from the book of Judges about what happens when faith goes unguarded for just one generation. Brian also shares his personal take on capital punishment after listening to Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History, and closes with a devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley on what it actually means to walk wisely. A wide-ranging, honest, and deeply personal hour of radio.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lord, Grant Me Eyes to See, Ears to Hear! "But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil." Hebrews 5:14 In a world overflowing with information, it's vital to distinguish between media messages and the profound truths of the Gospel. Just as a counterfeit-bill detector can discern real currency from fakes, we are called to develop our spiritual discernment. The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 5:14 that “solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” This maturity empowers us to navigate today's messages with wisdom. Consider the story of Paul confronting the fortune-teller girl in Acts 16. Despite her claims, her spirit was not aligned with God's truth. Paul, discerning her true nature, rebuked her, showcasing the necessity of spiritual insight. That is why we are reminded in 1 John 4:1 to test the spirits and ensure they align with God's Word. This reminds us that not every voice we hear reflects divine intent; some may seek to lead us astray. 1 John 4:1 says, "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." Remember, "Spiritual discernment is not seeing more, but seeing through; not hearing louder, but hearing beneath." Therefore, let's pray that God grant us the "Eyes to see, and ears to hear.” Let this be our daily aspiration in every aspect of our lives. Whether we are consuming media, engaging in conversation, or studying Scripture, let us seek wisdom as Dr. Charles Stanley highlights that, “Discernment is wisdom in action.” This journey requires us to engage our hearts and minds deeply. Remember, "When love is your lens and truth your tuning fork, what you see sharpens and what you hear rings clean." Such a foundation not only protects us but also leads us toward fruitful relationships that reflect the light of Christ. Philippians 1:9-10 says, "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ." Amen. Prayer for the day!Heavenly Father, thank You for granting us sharp senses to detect truth from error. Brethren, I pray for you; may the Lord grant you sharp senses to detect truth from error. Help you to discern His voice amidst the clamor of the world; to know the Shepherd's whisper from the stranger's call; to love the light even when it exposes, and to welcome correction as a friend. May your hearts be steady, not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, but anchored in the Word that cannot be shaken. Let your minds be renewed, your affections purified, your wills aligned with His good pleasure. May the Spirit train your senses, that by constant practice you may distinguish the holy from the hollow, the eternal from the urgent, the pure from the merely popular. In Jesus name. Amen.https://maglife.org

Charles Stanley teaches that money is not meant to control our lives or replace our trust in God. Everything we have belongs to the Lord, and we are called to be faithful stewards of His resources. When money becomes our source of security, it leads to fear, stress, and misplaced priorities. The message explains that God uses finances to reveal the condition of our hearts. Giving, contentment, honesty, and wise management are expressions of trust and obedience. God does not promise wealth, but He does promise provision for our needs when we put Him first.Jaggy and Tedi offer a gentle reminder through their simple trust—they don't worry about tomorrow. They rest, confident that provision will come. In the same way, believers are called to rely on God daily, trusting Him as the true source of peace and security.Key takeaway:When God is first in our finances, worry fades and trust grows. True security is found not in money, but in the faithful God who provides.

In this powerful and practical message, Dr. Charles Stanley reminds us that conflict and criticism are part of everyday life, but our response determines whether they become stumbling blocks or stepping stones. Drawing from Scripture, he explains how God uses difficult interactions to refine our character, deepen our faith, and teach us humility.Listeners are encouraged to pause before reacting, seek God's guidance in prayer, and honestly evaluate their own hearts. Not every criticism is meant to be accepted, but every situation is an opportunity to respond with grace, wisdom, and self-control. Dr. Stanley emphasizes that a gentle spirit and trust in God's justice preserve peace and reflect Christ to others. As always at Cat81 Radio, Jaggy and Tedi were close by in the studio—quietly reminding us that calm presence, patience, and unconditional love often speak louder than words. Their peaceful companionship perfectly echoed the heart of this message: responding wisely begins with a settled spirit.
Dark moments come to everyone—times of loss, uncertainty, fear, or waiting. In this comforting message, Dr. Charles Stanley teaches that these seasons are not evidence that God has left us, but often moments when He is working most deeply in our lives. God uses darkness to shape our character, strengthen our faith, and draw us into closer dependence on Him.Dr. Stanley reminds us that obedience, patience, and prayer matter most when answers are delayed. Even when we cannot see what God is doing, He sees the full picture and remains faithful. Darkness has an end, but God's love and purpose do not. Here at Cat81 Radio, Jaggy and Tedi are right alongside us, reminding us through their calm presence that comfort often comes quietly—just as God stays close to us in every valley. If this message encourages you, please share it with someone who may be walking through a dark moment right now. A simple share can be a lifeline of hope and faith.

Have you ever encountered someone who simply wouldn't listen to wise advice? Or what about you? Have you ever refused to listen to words of wisdom? The Bible calls this decision "foolish."Main Points:1. The Bible teaches us that a foolish person is the one who leaves God out. In fact, Psalm 14:1 - “The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.” According to the Scripture, the fool either doesn't believe in God, or they don't consider God and his ways. They leave God out. The fool doesn't follow Godly wisdom or advice. The fool leaves God out of their planning and goes their own way.2. Charles Stanley wrote, “Wisdom is the capacity to see things from God's perspective and respond according to scriptural principles.”3. I believe that to gain wisdom, we must have humility. As long as we think we know better, we'll neglect Godly wisdom, whether it comes from Scripture or a trusted friend. When we humble ourselves, we are declaring that God knows better. We are acknowledging our weaknesses and our limitations. We are trusting God to lead us to make the right decisions.Today's Scripture Verses:Proverbs 12:15 - “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” Proverbs 28:26 - “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.”Proverbs 14:12 - “There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way to death.”1 Corinthians 3:19 - “The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

In this inspiring message, Dr. Charles Stanley teaches that every believer will face moments when fear rises and courage is required. Drawing from Joshua 1, he reminds us that genuine courage doesn't come from our own strength but from depending fully on God's presence and His promises. When we shift our focus from our circumstances to the One who walks with us, fear loses its grip.Just as Allan's studio companions Jaggy and Tedi rest peacefully because they trust the one who cares for them, we too can find steadiness in knowing our Father never leaves us. Through Scripture, obedience, and remembering God's past faithfulness, we learn to move forward boldly—even when the path seems uncertain.Dr. Stanley's message reassures listeners that God equips His people for every challenge. Courage isn't a feeling—it's a choice to trust the Lord, step out in faith, and believe that He will see us through.

In this inspiring message, Dr. Charles Stanley teaches the importance of equipping ourselves daily with the full armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:10–18. He reminds believers that life is a spiritual battlefield, and our struggles are not against flesh and blood but against the forces of darkness seeking to derail our faith and peace. Dr. Stanley explains each piece of the armor—the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and sword of the Spirit—and how each represents a vital aspect of our relationship with Christ. He stresses that victory in spiritual warfare requires preparation, prayer, and dependence on God's strength, not our own. By consciously “putting on” the armor each day through faith and obedience, we can stand firm against temptation, discouragement, and deception. Stanley concludes that when believers walk in truth, righteousness, and prayerful confidence, they are fully protected and empowered to live triumphantly in the face of spiritual adversity. Jaggy, Tedi, and I thank you for tuning in and encourage you to subscribe.
In this powerful message, Dr. Charles Stanley teaches that following God's will is often not a smooth or easy journey—it's a rocky road filled with challenges, testing, and moments of uncertainty. He explains that obedience to God doesn't guarantee comfort or instant success, but rather spiritual growth, character development, and deeper faith. Dr. Stanley reminds believers that God's path is designed to refine and strengthen them, not to harm them. The “rocks” along the road—disappointments, delays, and difficulties—are tools God uses to shape humility, trust, and perseverance. He urges listeners to remain steadfast, even when circumstances seem to contradict God's promises, trusting that every hardship is part of His divine preparation. Ultimately, Dr. Stanley emphasizes that walking the rocky road with faith and obedience leads to maturity, blessing, and fulfillment of God's perfect will. Dr. Charles Stanley's message “When God Says Wait” focuses on the spiritual discipline of patience and the importance of trusting God's timing. He reminds believers that waiting is not passive—it's an active expression of faith. When God delays an answer, it doesn't mean He's denying a request; rather, He is preparing circumstances, shaping our character, and deepening our dependence on Him. Stanley emphasizes that impatience often leads to poor decisions and spiritual setbacks, while obedient waiting builds maturity and strengthens our relationship with the Lord. Ultimately, he encourages believers to remain steadfast in prayer and confidence, knowing that God's timing is always perfect and His plans are always for our good. Jag and I thank you for tuning in and SHARING!
Charles Stanley's message “The Believer's War Room” highlights the reality of spiritual warfare and the essential role of prayer in overcoming it. He teaches that every believer needs a dedicated place and time to meet with God, where distractions are removed and battles are fought in prayer. Through consistent, disciplined prayer, Christians draw closer to God, receive His guidance, and gain strength to stand firm against the enemy. Jag, Tedi, and I thank you for tuning in!

Who are the black evangelicals? How has contemporary evangelicalism reckoned with racial justice? Theologian Vincent Bacote joins Mark Labberton to discuss Black + Evangelical, a new documentary exploring the in-between experience of black Christians in white evangelical spaces. Bacote—professor of theology at Wheaton College and director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics—shares his personal faith journey, early formation in the Navigators, growing racial consciousness, and decades-long engagement with questions of race, theology, and evangelical identity. Together, they work through the tensions, challenges, and possibilities for a more truthful and hopeful evangelical witness. Episode Highlights “The goal of the documentary is not to be a kind of hit piece about the evangelical movement. It's to tell the story of the church.” “To be for Black people is not to be against somebody else.” – Tom Skinner “I couldn't understand why the Bible people weren't leading the way on questions of race.” “Participation in evangelical spaces can't mean leaving part of yourself outside.” “Realism allows you to have honesty, but also remember the good news is the greatest news of all.” “God wants all of us—our whole selves—not a muted version.” Helpful Links and Resources Black + Evangelical Documentary (Christianity Today) Black + Evangelical Documentary Trailer The Political Disciple: A Theology of Public Life by Vincent Bacote Reckoning with Race and Performing the Good News by Vincent Bacote Breaking Down Walls by Raleigh Washington & Glen Kehrein Tom Skinner's Urbana 1970 Address (Full Audio) *The Color of Compromise* by Jemar Tisby About Vincent Bacote Vincent Bacote is professor of theology at Wheaton College and director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics.
