Tim, author of "Getting Unstuck" and "The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story," brings a unique perspective shaped by his experiences as a caddy, journalist, and coach who has worked with the ManKind Project for over 20 years. The conversation explores how integrating holistic coaching - addressing technical, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual elements - can differentiate instructors in an increasingly competitive and technology-driven environment. Howard Allen Glassman, commonly known as Humble Howard, is a Canadian radio personality, best known as co-host with Fred Patterson of the Humble & Fred morning show, which had been heard on Edge 102, Mojo 640 and Mix 99.9 in Toronto. Mark McQueen, for 35 years, Mark has held roles in both business & government, in each case moving from the "shop floor" to the executive suite: as a Ministerial Special Assistant to Chairman of two Crown Corporations, and from Teller and investment banking Associate to CEO of a specialty finance firm and, later, as a senior executive of a Chartered Bank. As an entrepreneur, Mark led the growth of Wellington Financial LP, a venture debt fund, from conception in 2000 to the firm's acquisition by CIBC in January 2018. Prior to its acquisition, Preqin named institutionally backed Wellington as one of the most consistent Top Performing Private Debt funds in the world. Had a very meaningful conversation with Howard Glassman. Howard, commonly known as “Humble Howard”, is a national radio host, a veteran stand-up comic and host of the golf podcast “Swing Thoughts”. Being an avid listener to the Swing Thought podcast, I was excited to chat with Howard. We talk about life and golf after alcohol, the challenges of being sober and how golf can be a reflection of life. Make sure to check out the “Swing Thoughts” podcast.
Howard Cosell had a boisterous personality. He once said, “I've been accused of being arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, a showoff…and of course I am.” He was sarcastically nicknamed “Humble Howard.” In one of his sports commentaries, he suggested that Terry Bradshaw did not have the intelligence to win in the league. But in 1993, TV Guide named Cosell “The Best All-Time Sportscaster.” Howard called many of Muhammad Ali's boxing matches. His most famous championship fight call was the George Forman-Joe Frazier fight in Kingston, Jamaica. That's when Cosell yelled “Down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier.” You may remember on Monday Night Football, Dec. 8, 1980, Cosell announced the death of John Lennon. In this podcast he answers his critics and suggests that Al McGuire and other coaches had an unfair means of getting their star players. Of course, I gave McGuire a chance to answer that accusation.
Howard William Cosell (/koʊˈsɛl/; né Cohen; March 25, 1918 – April 23, 1995) was an American sports journalist, broadcaster and author. Cosell became prominent and influential during his tenure with ABC Sports from 1953 until 1985. Cosell was widely known for his blustery, confident personality.[1] Cosell said of himself, "I've been called arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, verbose, a showoff. And, of course, I am." Cosell was sardonically nicknamed "Humble Howard" by fans and media critics.[2] In its obituary for Cosell, The New York Times described Cosell's effect on American sports coverage: He entered sports broadcasting in the mid-1950s, when the predominant style was unabashed adulation, [and] offered a brassy counterpoint that was first ridiculed, then copied until it became the dominant note of sports broadcasting.[1] He also brought an antagonistic, almost heel-like commentary, notably his giving criticism of Terry Bradshaw by suggesting that he did not have the intelligence to win in the league.[3] In 1993, TV Guide named Howard Cosell The All-Time Best Sportscaster.[4] PICTURE: By Gotfryd, Bernard, photographer - https://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2020736908/, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=121353602
He helped reimagine morning radio, listened to by millions. However, Humble Howard had a secret...an alcohol addiction. Without telling anyone, he quit the bottle 8 years ago and has been sober ever since. In this episode, he opens up with his deepest dive to date into his addiction. (Part 1 of a 3 part podcast series on addiction)
