Olympic paddler Luuka Jones-Yaxley's lined up an unexpected project after her success in Paris. Shortly after retiring from the high-performance canoe Slalom at the Paris Olympics, Luuka received a call and an offer to appear as Charlize Theron's stunt double in the Netflix film Apex. She says the offer felt like an 'April Fools joke' at first, but she was on a plane to the South Island to begin filming before she knew it. "I just received at text from a friend down in the South Island and he called me and said he's been doing a bunch of water safety on some films and that this film had approached him and they needs a kayak double for Charlize Theron - and it kind of went from there." Welcome to our new segment, Sydney @ 6. Oscar Piastri sent Sydney Olympian Phoebe (from Castlecrag) the sweetest good luck message ahead of her first Winter Olympics competing in Slalom and Giant Slalom, and it brought her to tears. A developer just paid $1.25 million at auction for a 4-metre wide, 110sqm driveway on Church Street in Newtown—yes, just the driveway—because Sydney's property market is completely cooked. Chappell Roan annoyed Sydney fans at Laneway Festival by refusing to do a shoey, which is honestly un-Australian. And Bad Bunny announced his Sydney tour dates at ENGIE Stadium for February 28 and March 1 right after his Super Bowl halftime show performance. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Nico explores the evolution of HR and the future of work, sharing his vision for moving from a transactional, industrial mindset to a system-shaping function. He discusses his concept of The Great Leap, a framework for the Fusion Age where humans and machines work together, and reflects on the shift from advising on outcomes to owning them, ensuring HR drives real organisational impact. Nico emphasises the importance of naming architectural failures, focusing on next practices rather than best practices, and designing systems that recognise human potential. Nico challenges traditional approaches to productivity and capability, highlighting that legacy systems were built for a linear age and now require fundamental rethinking to make work meaningful, equitable and future-ready. The conversation also explores the ethical and social dimensions of HR, with integrity and responsibility at the centre. Nico introduces the human delta - the gap between current capabilities and future potential - and encourages HR leaders to take ownership. By designing systems that invest in people and make equity inevitable, HR can step onto the field and truly change the world. References: Rewiring the Human Delta by Nico Decock Independent IT Research & AI Insights | Bloor Research UK How is AI really playing out? Slalom's new research Thank you to Slalom for sponsoring this week's podcast episode. If you're an HR leader navigating AI and wondering how to move from ambition to adoption, Slalom's latest research offers practical insights you can use right away. Slalom surveyed more than 2,000 global executives to understand how AI is really playing out, where investment is translating into value, where it isn't and, what that means for leadership, skills and cross functional alignment. What happens when leaders are confident about AI, but the people expected to use it are not ready? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sat down with Caroline Grant from Slalom Consulting to explore one of the most persistent tensions in enterprise AI adoption right now. Boards and executives are spending more, moving faster, and expecting returns sooner than ever, yet many organizations are struggling to translate that ambition into outcomes that scale. Caroline brings fresh insight from Slalom's latest research into how leadership, culture, and workforce readiness are shaping what actually happens next. We unpack a clear shift in ownership for AI transformation, with CTOs and CDOs increasingly leading organizational redesign rather than HR. That change reflects how deeply AI now cuts across technology, operations, and business models, but it also introduces new risks. Caroline explains why sidelining people teams can create blind spots around skills, incentives, and trust, especially as roles evolve and uncertainty grows inside the workforce. The result is what Slalom describes as a growing AI disconnect between executive optimism and day-to-day reality. Despite the noise around job losses, the data tells a more nuanced story. Many organizations are creating new AI-related roles at a pace, yet almost all are facing skills gaps that threaten progress. We talk about why reskilling at scale is now unavoidable, how unclear career paths fuel employee distrust, and why focusing only on technical capability misses the human side of adoption. Caroline also challenges assumptions about skill priorities, warning that deprioritizing empathy, communication, and change leadership could undermine effective human-AI collaboration. We also dig into ROI expectations, with most UK executives now expecting returns within two years. Caroline shares why that ambition is achievable, where it breaks down, and why so many organizations remain stuck in pilot mode. From governance and decision rights to culture and leadership behavior, this conversation goes beyond tools and platforms to examine what separates experimentation from fundamental transformation. As AI becomes a test of leadership as much as technology, how are you closing the gap between vision and execution within your organization, and are you building a workforce that can keep pace with change rather than resist it? Snow here isn't background scenery; it's a way of life. In this episode, we step into Slovenia's winter pulse, where ski jumping is a family ritual, weekends revolve around the forecast, and visitors are welcomed not just as guests, but as participants. From the lively slopes of Kranjska Gora and Krvavec to the serene cross-country trails of Pokljuka and the valley beauty of Jezersko, we explore the most accessible, rewarding ways to ski, glide, sled, and enjoy winter – without the crowds. Two elite athletes, both with their family roots from Gorenjska, a region named among the Best Places to Go in Europe in 2026 by Condé Nast Traveler, guide us through this landscape from opposite sides of the Atlantic.Hockey legend Anže Kopitar, who built his career in the United States, shares what he recommends to friends when they visit Slovenia: basing themselves in Bled or Ljubljana, day-tripping across Gorenjska, and balancing crisp mountain mornings with riverside coffee and Michelin-starred dinners. He reflects on bringing the Stanley Cup to Lake Bled and explains why Slovenia's small size is one of its greatest strengths – where the sea, the Alps, and the capital city are all within easy reach. We also head to Planica, Slovenia's iconic ski-flying valley, where visitors can walk beneath the legendary hill, tour the Nordic Museum, experience indoor skydiving, or zipline across the valley for a ski jumper's-eye view.Slalom racer Lila Lapanja offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at elite alpine skiing. Raised in Lake Tahoe and now competing for Slovenia, she speaks openly about her decision to return to her roots and join the Slovenian national ski team. She shares her personal life story, her strong USA–Slovenia connection, and what it takes to run a lean, independent “Team Lila” – from coaching and ski service to logistics and mental preparation. We dive into race-day details: breathing cues at the start gate, trusting feel as light and ruts shift, and how hundredths of a second can define an entire season. If you're planning a winter holiday, think Slovenia: come for the snow, stay for the culture, and leave with a new respect for mountains that shape everyday life.Enjoyed the show? The queen is the most powerful player on a chessboard – a queen can move anywhere - just like HR. Ewen shares why HR practitioners need to stop staying in their square and start thinking like a queen on a chessboard. He explores how meaningful change comes through sustained commitment to human-centred approaches and shares the example of The Havas Platform, demonstrating how HR can create impact both within organisations and society. Ewen champions transparency as foundational to trust and equity and discusses his approach to reward, including opportunities to personalise pay and benefits according to need. Framing reward as an opportunity to target support, he emphasises that social impact isn't only external and reminds us that employees may be experiencing the same issues that we see in society. Encouraging you to "be a queen", Ewen's wish is for everyone in HR to appreciate how powerful your position is, and use that power to drive positive change. How is AI really playing out? Fabiola explores how real change often comes from small, human moments - conversations, deep listening and creating spaces where people can bring their whole selves. Drawing on her international career and psychotherapy studies, she shows how engaging with people relationally forms the foundation for sustainable organisational transformation. Fabiola also highlights the power of human-centred design in organisations. By fostering improvisation and curiosity, and giving employees a voice, teams build resilience, creativity and stronger connections. Concepts such as 'the fertile void' create space for insight and innovation to emerge. Looking ahead, Fabiola urges HR leaders to see human-centred ways of working as essential, not optional. Her wish for HR is for leaders to recognise that the health and wellbeing of their people is at the heart of everything they do. How is AI really playing out? Samantha cuts through the AI hype to discuss what businesses are really experiencing, including thoughts on why investment in AI is high, yet value remains elusive - highlighting challenges with legacy technology, data, governance and workforce readiness. Emphasising the crucial role of HR in shaping the future of work, working alongside tech and data leaders and the importance of cross-functional collaboration, Samantha highlights a striking insight from Slalom's research: empathy and communication are being deprioritised, even as these human skills become more important for trust, adoption and sustainable change. Introducing the concept of AQ and the SHIFT framework, Samantha shows how organisations can build human and cultural foundations adept at dealing with continuous change, including AI adoption. Her practical call to action for HR leaders: connect with your CTOs and CDOs, learn from each other, and help lead a future of work that balances technology with human needs. In this CPQ Podcast episode, Frank Sohn talks with Calvin Chow, Senior Director at Slalom Consulting, about what it really takes to move from Salesforce CPQ to Salesforce Revenue Cloud (RCA/ARM). Calvin has hands-on experience with multiple CPQ platforms — including PROS, Apttus (now Conga), Salesforce CPQ / Revenue Cloud, Zuora CPQ, and Vlocity — and shares what he wishes he had known about the end-to-end quote-to-cash process earlier in his career. Calvin explains how Slalom supports mid-size to Fortune 500 customers with strategy, process improvement, data management, and CPQ/Billing transformations, and walks through lessons learned from nearly 10 Salesforce CPQ to RCA/ARM migration projects. He highlights why RCA is more complex than many teams expect, why data migration is the single most critical success factor, and how to rethink processes when moving to usage-based and consumption billing models. The conversation also explores the growing role of AI, agents, and Agentforce in Revenue Cloud. Calvin shares real use cases where agents help create quotes, support renewals, and provide product and pricing recommendations — and why he believes AI will augment sales teams rather than replace them, with over 50% of Slalom's recent projectsnow involving AI and Agentforce. On a lighter note, Calvin also reveals his passion as a coffee connoisseur and aspiring future barista, adding a personal touch to a highly practical, insight-rich episode for anyone serious about CPQ, quote-to-cash, and Salesforce Revenue Cloud migrations.
