Earlier this season, Kate Davis talked to New York Times columnist Jessica Grose about a piece Grose wrote called “the hour between babe and hag”. The article examines gendered ageism. Jessica writes that there seems to be about 10 years when a woman can hope to be taken seriously at work. Roughly from age 35-45. On either end of that, women are more likely to face ageism. On one side for being perceived as too young, and on the other side as being past their prime. In this episode, we hear a conversation between two women on other side of the this "hour".

5...4...3...2...fun!!

before typing this out i sat for a whole five minutes in total silence. it was an accident. i didn’t mean to do it. but i’m realizing i don’t do that enough these days. and that maybe i should do it for longer sometimes. i’m in my bedroom and no one else is home right now. i can hear some quiet bird sounds from outside. i know the highway is only a few hundred feet away but i can’t hear it. there’s a low hum from something. probably the fan in the bathroom? the half bath doesn’t have a window so keeping the fan on in there helps keep it from getting too stuffy. the refrigerator makes sound but it’s mostly easy to tune out. i wonder if my lamp is making a sound right now. i just heard a motorcycle for a second. and now it’s gone.the heater just came on. in 15 seconds the fan will kick in and in another 20 second it’ll reach my bedroom. sound waves move through air. the heat moves through air to my body. i baste in it so my fingers can defrost and so i can finish this message to you. and then i’ll silence my fingers for five minutes.DOWNLOAD/STREAM RECORDING00:00 (intro by omar)00:20 Kate Davis “Daisy” Trophy03:14 Little Angry “Green Mountain” A Cup of Tea06:51 ratbath “the devil” cold golden boxes09:01 Chris Weisman “Yeah You” Romantics10:22 Friendship “You Might Already Know” Dreamin’14:02 Fern Mayo “Goddess Under Exclusions” Week of Charm17:53 Moor Mother “Passing Of Time” Analog Fluids Of Sonic Black Holes22:05 Ganser “Motivational Speaking” You Must Be New Here26:22 False Advertising “Reading it Wrong” Brainfreeze30:30 Sharks’ Teeth “Face the Grove” Broken Trust in Satan32:44 Romantic States “Mike’s Property” Ballerina36:28 Sarchasm “Deadname” Beach Blanket Bummer Pop39:43 James Kochalka Superstar “Tape Hiss” Eggs40:56 Mono Lisa “Comment Party” Vision Engineering44:22 Joy Cleaner “Bad Advice” You’re So Jaded47:17 Parlor Walls “Spinning Gold” Lunchbox / Spinning Gold50:18 Rachael Dadd “Palaeontologist” FLUX54:38 Yawzea “Slaw” Zoning Demos57:06 Shutups “Almost Won The Lotto” Every Day I’m Less Zen60:10 Dead Little Penny “Out Of Body Experience” Urge Surfing64:01 Squarehead “Maybe” High Time67:46 WOOLWORM “Dogman” Awe69:45 LACKER “HEAVENS” TWO-FACED GAG71:44 thanks for coming “clue” the back of my knee74:29 22 Halo “Big Fire” 22 Halo

We dive deep today into the creation of a new podcast series from FastCompany about women and work FastCompany scoured the nation to find mother/daughter pairs to tell their own stories of the world of work. How they created the series is a testament to the power of working toward excellence, but the topic itself is also beyond compelling. 43% of women leave the workforce after having children, which is disturbingly often not always their preferred choice. Today we talk with Kate Davis, FastCompany Deputy Editor about the American Dream and women and what we all can do to improve our ability to earn more and to help others earn. While it's true that you can't change history, women often face challenges today in the workplace that should have been resolved years ago, so we discuss what we can do now. We'll also share clips from several of those women, and Kate offers additional research and solutions based on her work. Is Congress bringing some changes to retirement plans? It looks likely, though currently the government is sitting on the Secure 2.0 bill with a deadline just a few weeks away. We'll talk about the changes proposed in the bill and how to get your retirement savings on track whether or not this legislation passes. We'll also answer Timmy's question about brokered CDs and Doug will share his trivia. Find the full show notes at https://www.stackingbenjamins.com/kate-davis-1285.
