Escuchar audio

Jennifer shares how they facilitate behavior change in leadership, individuals, culture, and how they execute sales strategies. She highlights the importance of storytelling for effective selling and the value of coaching to see certain red lights that you shouldn't blow through. They also talk about being relevant, distinct, and memorable and how your differentiator makes you strikingly different. HIGHLIGHTS Simulations improve sales strategies Change the perception: Tell stories and solve legitimate concerns  Coaching teaches how not to blow through red lights Giving sympathy vs providing empathy Find your differentiator that engages clients in your story QUOTES Jennifer: "It falls on us to develop, really when you think about this book, the storytelling skills. I mean, we use storytelling metaphors when you're trying to capture attention." Jennifer: "Are you relevant to what they need? And then, does it have some distinction to where we started the conversation? It might be relevant but can I see the differentiator between you? And is it memorable? Which requires work on your end to be that clear, concise storyteller." Howard: "Empathy is asking you a set of open-ended questions, getting you talking, understanding a little bit more about you, getting you to clarify so you understand even more about the situation, and how you got—then I can be empathic. But without the understanding and the open-ended questions and the ability to really reflect, all you're doing is providing sympathy." Jennifer: "There's one skill set that's how do you create excitement, how do you connect, how do you engage? And then, there's this other skill set that you validate and co-create. So I think you have to be able to flow back and forth between those." Katie Boateng:"People want others to understand the enormous impact that smell and taste conditions have on their day-to-day lives. There seems to be a lack of empathy or understanding for how impactful these conditions can be."2. Seth Rotberg:"Genetic counseling is becoming more prevalent and important to know about the next steps. It's crucial to have the right resources and support when facing genetic and rare diseases."3. Howard Brown:"You gotta get up out of bed every day and push further and keep going. It's okay to sleep in bed one day; you gotta get back up the next day. Keep moving."4. Yolanda Brunson Sarrabo:"Everyone isn't a public speaker, but you can write down questions and use the nurses and healthcare team as resources. We need providers and researchers to find us, as there is a diverse range of patients with unique perspectives."Tune in to this enlightening episode as patients share their insights and advocate for better understanding and communication within the healthcare system.(c) 2023 BSB Media

Jennifer Allen is formerly Chief Evangelist of Challenger and now Head of Community Growth at Lavender. She's joining me today, along with my occasional co-host, Howard Brown, founder and CEO of Revenue.io. Jennifer discusses the psychology of no-decision and why buyers who choose the status quo are actually making a decision, just not the one you want. She also gives an introduction to the Challenger Sale and the 5 sales mindsets they discovered, as well as gives tips on what sellers can do to ensure a buyer actually makes a buying decision. Jennifer also talks about The Challenger Loop to get quick feedback from the customer about what went right and wrong in the deal. HIGHLIGHT QUOTES A better product does NOT convince a buyer to make a decision- Jennifer: "[Better] is my least favorite word in sales now because I think it's the number one word that led to a lot of my status quo, no decision deals because what I failed to realize is people don't always want better. Like, good, in most cases, especially in markets like this, is damn good enough." Show the buyer the cost of action - Jennifer: "One of the most eye-opening experiences is my job as a seller is not to show why it's better. My job is to show the cost of an action. What is the cost of the status quo before I ever start going off about what I have to offer and what that looks like." ROI is not compelling enough to move away from the status quo - Jennifer: "I would talk about here's the ROI of changing; it's 15 times ROI. Guess who else is saying that? Every other vendor competing for that dollar. It means almost nothing. And I'm not saying there's not a time and place for ROI, but compelling a business to exit the status quo is incredibly difficult. And just like the doctor's example, they need to feel that the risk of staying the same is actually far greater than the risk of change." Welcome back to our podcast, The Patients Speak. Today's interview we got to sit down and speak with the author of Shining Brightly: A Memoir of Resilience and Hope, Howard Brown. Howard is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, speaker, podcaster, and two-time stage IV cancer patient, survivor and advocate. He shares the keys to leading a resilient life that drives successful community leaders, business innovators and healthcare advocates.Today we talked with Howard about his story. How he overcame stage IV cancer 2 times, patient advocacy and clinical trials, and his new book Shining Brightly. “Life is a team sport, fighting cancer is a team sport. Build your team”Overcoming CancerIn 1989, at the age of 23 Howard was diagnosed with stage four T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was a deer in headlights. His dad went to the library to get a book on cancer. After surviving, 26 years later he was diagnosed again with stage four metastatic colorectal cancer. This time he was married and had a child. He lived it 2 different times and in 2 different eras. One was really analog and the other one was digital. His first piece of advice was “Don't do this alone”. It's way too complex. Cancer diagnosis and treatment cuts you down emotionally, physically, financially, and in relationships. Take someone with you. And, if you can't take someone with you, someone can be a mentor, can be assigned, a nurse navigator, any type of patient navigator, there's resources for you.Patient AdvocateAs the patient, they need to be helped to be educated.Paperwork and billing Emotional support and balanceChemo Brain - Chemo brain is another name for PTSD, post-traumatic stress. The amounts of stress that you get in dealing with cancer and in dealing with all the medication and the side effects.Minimize negativity in your relationships and environmentMental toughness - Having a strong, positive attitudeRelease resistance to receiving helpClinical Trials Howard explains that clinical trials are important because that's the advancements in cures. He also explain in what ways they can improve:They need to make it easier to get into the trials. They're missing a whole population called disparities, (minorities, Indian, African American, Latino)Making sure that the patient is understanding of the trials, talking them through that trial is really important, you can't just rush through it. You need to make sure that the patient and their caregiving team, including their original oncology teamThey have to rely on your input. The patient has to be able to give a way to be able to express feedback, and they need to make that simple. It can't be very complex. They need to be able to either record you or give a patient portal where you can actually give your feedback. “It's a complex process, but it needs to be simplified, but it's an important process because we need to move forward and help save more lives.”Shining BrightlyShining Brightly is a book about resilience and living a life of hope and positive change in this world. Shining that beautiful light that we all have to lift ourselves up, lift others, and then lift our communities up. It's inspirational, and it tells you how to get back up again when you get knocked down. As cancer patients, families of patients, and care partners, you get knocked down...

Howard Brown is an author, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, interfaith peacemaker, two-time stage IV cancer survivor, and healthcare advocate. For over three decades, Howard's business innovations, leadership principles, mentoring, and resilience in beating cancer against long odds have made him a sought-after speaker and consultant for businesses, nonprofits, congregations, and community groups. His hard-earned wisdom about resilience after beating cancer twice has led him to become a nationally known patient advocate and “cancer whisperer” to many families. Howard, his wife Lisa, and his daughter Emily currently reside in Michigan. ✨A few highlights from the show: 1. Medical technologies that played a role in Howard's recovery and expanding his family: bone marrow transplant, In vitro fertilization (IVF)/Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), scans to video, liquid biopsy, tumor burden, clinical trials, immunotherapy, and Interleukin-2 2. It is important that you, your loved ones or family, or a patient advocate ask about what medical technologies are available to treat the type of cancer that you have. As you can see from Howard's experience, there are many options that may help save your life and improve your quality of life. 3. Don't isolate yourself. Isolation brings darkness. 4. Call for help and hold on to hope. 5. Find your happy place and go there!

Robert Zimmermann is the CRO at Qualified. He talks about the golden opportunity to meet buyers and acquire them at the first opportunity when they visit your website. Robert is also joined today by Howard Brown, Founder and CEO at Revenue.io. Robert and Howard discuss the best use cases of AI and human sellers in engaging customers on your website, as well as the increasing use of video to provide a human connection immediately. They also comment on the changing nature of enablement that must train sellers to meet buyers who are now more informed than ever before.  HIGHLIGHTS Digital body language: Connect with buyers at the moment they are on your website Interact with buyers: Moving from chat to video on demand on your website Focus on pipeline during a recession  AI cannot replicate the nuances of human interaction in sales Enablement must train sellers how to meet buyers in context QUOTES Engage buyers at the first point of contact - Robert: "Statistically, about 80% of buyers will probably buy from the first company or person that they engage with. So why would you open yourself up to a situation where you're not responding to these people are target accounts of yours, a strategic account, so that you're trying to pursue the moment that they're there." AI and human sellers have their optimal uses in sales - Robert: "That type of A.I. in chat has a very useful function in a highly process-oriented environment like a support environment. But sales is nuanced. Sales is about connection. You talk about this a lot, Andy. Sales is about that curiosity, about what's important to your company but what's important to you? You can't get that through A.I. You have to get that through interaction." Jennifer Colosimo is the President of the Enterprise Division at FranklinCovey and Co-Author of Strikingly Different Selling. Also joining is Howard Brown, Founder and CEO at Revenue.io. So I think you have to be able to flow back and forth between those."
