Hi there! Welcome to Episode 253 of Never on the Backfoot Podcast. In this episode, we are in conversation with an emerging star from Uganda, Alpesh Ramjani. 2023 was a storming year for Ugandan cricket, which was helped in no small part by Ramjani, who was both stellar with the ball and valuable with the bat. Ramjani was a nightmare for batters with his left-arm orthodox, taking 55 wickets in his 30 outings, the most among men's players in the format across the year. Ramjani struck every 11 balls for Uganda and with the bat, Ramjani was more than capable, deployed in different positions in the order across the year. His stellar run ensured Uganda's qualification to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. In this episode, we uncover his journey, his cricketing career, experiences and everything in between in a candid chat! On this week's program: The 2022 FIFA World Cup has been mired in controversy since its selection process fourteen years ago. The location, the government of the host nation, the selection process...every bit of it have been a firestorm, in one form or another. Will I watch it? Will YOU watch it? Democracy and "Always Getting Your Way" aren't synonyms anymore than "compromise" or "capitulation" are, regardless of what talking heads might continue to insist. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is about to wrap up in Australia, and it might be the best sport you're not watching. I'll tell you how I discovered the game, and how it's managed to shoot into my Top 3 favorite sports to watch. Finally, passive aggression is the toxic cocktail of bravado and cowardice. It wrecks so many aspects of personal and professional life, and one wrestling company in Jacksonville recently gave a VERY public example of both why AND how. Why can't people just be direct?
