Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Ian Lubin, Patrick Tyrant, Marlon, Via Spurs Kings TV and Jim From Oh So Spurs as Tottenham's 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace on Sunday was the 20th of their Premier League season. The defeat saw Spurs drop to 17th with only the relegated trio of Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton below them with two games to go. They are on 38 points from 36 games - one behind their Europa League final opponents Manchester United and two behind West Ham, who climbed to 15th with a 2-0 win against the Ruben Amorim's side. Adding insult to injury, 20 defeats is the most Spurs have suffered during a single Premier League season in history and the last time they lost as many in the English top division was during the 1991-92 season. It was also their 24th defeat across all competitions and they have only lost more in a single season in 1991-92, when they recorded 25 defeats. Postecoglou's side have won just one of their past 10 league games but will hope to bounce back against Aston Villa on Friday before making the trip to Bilbao to face the Red Devils in the all-important European final. On Sunday, AFC Bournemouth dropped points in a match which was riddled with controversy, with a red card decision taking centre stage - sparking massive debate on social media. Whilst the hindsight of a glorious few days of being a Cherry supporter may temper *some* emotion after a Manchester United draw, the overriding emotion amid Bournemouth fans is that they were robbed - in public view. Sam and Tom discuss the events of the last few days as Bournemouth open their brand new Performance Centre, announce the news of buying back the Vitality Stadium, plus we tackle the subdued Sunday, which saw the Red Devils claim a fortunate point at the death. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. One of the wildest comebacks in the history of Manchester United might not just save their season, but might just save their status as an elite-level club as the Red Devils were trailing 4-2 to Lyon in extra time with less than 10 minutes to play and they came all the way back to win 5-4 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate. Non-forwards who were pressed into attacking roles Kobbie Mainoo & Harry Maguire scored the goals that leveled it and won it. Of course the Champions League final comeback win is going to be bigger, but there isn't a more shocking comeback and from a deeper position in a meaningful match that I can remember. Spurs continue on in the Europa League as well and Ange Postecoglou is enjoying sticking it to his critics after they knocked out Eintracht Frankfurt. Could it be an all-England Europa League final? Sputs have to get past Norwegian champs Bodo/Glimt while Manchester United will face Athletic Club de Bilbao. All MLS matches this weekend are tomorrow and the highlight is Columbus hosting Miami in Cleveland. Both teams are unbeaten, but Miami does have to think about Thursday's trip to Vancouver for the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals. Some other tasty matchups this weekend, be on the lookout for this week's MLS Six Pack later today on the SDH Network.UEFA Women's Champions League semifinals start this weekend with former Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro leading his Lyon side against the Gunners while Chelsea and Barcelona meet for the third straight year at this stage. Barcelona have won the last two, but Sonia Bompastor will continue the Quadruple-chase for the Blues. African Champions League semifinals also start this weekend as two Egyptian clubs, Al Ahly who have won 4 of the last 5 titles and Pyramids, face two South Africa clubs in Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, respectively. First legs in South Africa this weekend, second legs next Friday in Cairo. According to Spanish reports, Jurgen Klopp has agreed to speak with Real Madrid about their coaching job that is expected to be open after the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona next weekend. Carlo Ancelotti is still in the sights of Brazil, who want him in place before the June World Cup qualifiers. More to come on this, but Georgia Impact sent the SDH Network a statement about their inclusion in WPSL Pro, the new women's second division professional league launching next year. "For too long female soccer players thought the end of the road was after 4 years in college. Now we can offer them the opportunity to live their dream by making it as a professional soccer player," said Robert Roddie, the Georgia Impact head coach. Their season at the amateur level of the WPSL starts very soon in Canton, coverage coming shortly all over the SDH Network as they start their preparations for becoming a professional club in 2026. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
Morning Footy: A daily soccer podcast from CBS Sports Golazo Network
Manchester United are through to the Europa League semifinals—but not without putting their fans through it. The Morning Footy crew breaks down the wild remontada against Lyon: Will this dramatic comeback spark a turnaround for the Red Devils? How much credit does Ruben Amorim deserve for the extra-time revival? And what still needs fixing before they face a red-hot Athletic Club? Discover the inspiring story of Ayden Heaven, the versatile English talent who navigated academy releases and a spell at Arsenal before landing at Manchester United. We explore his journey as a central defender and midfielder, his England youth career, and why the Red Devils see him as a key part of their future. Ayden Heaven, Manchester United, Arsenal, West Ham, English football.
The season from hell (ironically enough for the Red Devils) continues for Man United as they drop to 15th in the table. Plus, Chelsea drop massive points in the Top 5(!) race as Newcastle and City prevail.
Eddie Howe's illness, while obviously a concern for everyone, did not disrupt Newcastle's focus on a Super Sunday. Newcastle's senior teams won 10-1 on aggregate as The Lasses put promotion disappointment behind them with six unanswered goals against Blackburn. Manchester United, meanwhile, left St James's Park with their tails between their legs; our midfield trio bullying them into submission. Kevin Keegan wasn't there to see his Wor Flags tribute, but he must have savoured our first league double over the Red Devils in 94 years. Two huge games this week for the boys with Crystal Palace calling on Wednesday night before a trip to Aston Villa; Champions League qualification is now less a hope than an expectation. Manchester United's season is all but over domestically, with the Red Devils out of contention for European qualification and set for a bottom-half finish. However, Ruben Amorim's side are still involved in the Europa League, drawing the first leg of their quarter-final tie in Lyon on Thursday, but with the return match to come at Old Trafford next midweek, this trip to Tyneside could act as little more than a distraction. It's the Manchester derby, UNITED against CITY, but it's certainly a strange one. Both of these clubs are in a bad way, though that means something different to each of them. City have fallen from champion grace but are still battling for a Champions League place. United, on the other hand, are 13th in the league with eight matches left to play. It's an incredible state of affairs for one of Europe's true superclubs, and on this week's show, the brilliant Carl Anka of The Athletic suggests that United are becoming something like the Dallas Cowboys: a giant global sporting institution that's lost its magic. We got into how the Red Devils spent their way into this mess, how City have become a team with a soft underbelly, and why this Sunday's encounter may be a meeting of the legless midfields. If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review! It will help spread the good word. And as always, for kickoff times and storylines on all the other matches worth your time this weekend, check TheFootballWeekend.com. Hosted on Acast. MANCHESTER UNITED vs ARSENAL is the essential Premier League rivalry for fans of a certain age. These two clubs battled for titles season after season in the early 2000s in what some might call the league's greatest era. Then Arsène Wenger lost his magic touch, Sir Alex Ferguson won the war, and Arsenal fans had to listen to Patrice Evra come out after every encounter between the two and declare that it was "men against boys.” From there, it was a steady decline away from championship contention for the club from North London. When Ferguson left, United had their own downfall, and now they've sunk farther than the eighth-place finish Arsenal endured towards the beginning of manager Mikel Arteta's reign. The Red Devils are in terrible shape after a decade of self-sabotage, cycling through managers and executives and even — with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe — ownership structures. None of it's helped, and now this week's guest — Manchester United fan and host of Touchline Fracas, Morayo Bamidele — fears his team could be embarrassed at Old Trafford. If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review! It will help spread the good word. For kickoff times and storylines on all the matches worth your time this weekend, check TheFootballWeekend.com. Hosted on Acast. Liverpool earned a narrow victory in Europe last night as Harvey Elliot's late goal proved enough to see off PSG in the French capital, but it was the Reds goalkeeper who earned the plaudits. Alisson denied just about everyone in blue at the Parc Des Princes, giving Arne Slot's side something to defend in the second leg.Elsewhere, attention turns to Manchester United and Spurs in the Europa League tonight, with Real Sociedad awaiting the Red Devils, keen to extend their recent misery. Is the competition something United should be targeting as winnable? Or is it all about continuing to adapt to the Ruben Amorim system? Billi (@SGPSoccer) looks back at United's horrible performance at Tottenham before moving on to preview tomorrow's difficult looking trip to Goodison Park.
