Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. One of the wildest comebacks in the history of Manchester United might not just save their season, but might just save their status as an elite-level club as the Red Devils were trailing 4-2 to Lyon in extra time with less than 10 minutes to play and they came all the way back to win 5-4 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate. Non-forwards who were pressed into attacking roles Kobbie Mainoo & Harry Maguire scored the goals that leveled it and won it. Of course the Champions League final comeback win is going to be bigger, but there isn't a more shocking comeback and from a deeper position in a meaningful match that I can remember. Spurs continue on in the Europa League as well and Ange Postecoglou is enjoying sticking it to his critics after they knocked out Eintracht Frankfurt. Could it be an all-England Europa League final? Sputs have to get past Norwegian champs Bodo/Glimt while Manchester United will face Athletic Club de Bilbao. All MLS matches this weekend are tomorrow and the highlight is Columbus hosting Miami in Cleveland. Both teams are unbeaten, but Miami does have to think about Thursday's trip to Vancouver for the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals. Some other tasty matchups this weekend, be on the lookout for this week's MLS Six Pack later today on the SDH Network.UEFA Women's Champions League semifinals start this weekend with former Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro leading his Lyon side against the Gunners while Chelsea and Barcelona meet for the third straight year at this stage. Barcelona have won the last two, but Sonia Bompastor will continue the Quadruple-chase for the Blues. African Champions League semifinals also start this weekend as two Egyptian clubs, Al Ahly who have won 4 of the last 5 titles and Pyramids, face two South Africa clubs in Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, respectively. First legs in South Africa this weekend, second legs next Friday in Cairo. According to Spanish reports, Jurgen Klopp has agreed to speak with Real Madrid about their coaching job that is expected to be open after the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona next weekend. Carlo Ancelotti is still in the sights of Brazil, who want him in place before the June World Cup qualifiers. More to come on this, but Georgia Impact sent the SDH Network a statement about their inclusion in WPSL Pro, the new women's second division professional league launching next year. "For too long female soccer players thought the end of the road was after 4 years in college. Now we can offer them the opportunity to live their dream by making it as a professional soccer player," said Robert Roddie, the Georgia Impact head coach. Their season at the amateur level of the WPSL starts very soon in Canton, coverage coming shortly all over the SDH Network as they start their preparations for becoming a professional club in 2026. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

How much credit does Ruben Amorim deserve for the extra-time revival? And what still needs fixing before they face a red-hot Athletic Club? Then, Geoff Shreeves joins the show to reflect on a memorable night at Old Trafford and what Tottenham's gritty win in Frankfurt means for Ange Postecoglou's project. Plus, we dive into Arsenal's stunning victory over Real Madrid and ask the big question: where does Mikel Arteta rank among Europe's elite managers? Eddie Howe's illness, while obviously a concern for everyone, did not disrupt Newcastle's focus on a Super Sunday. Newcastle's senior teams won 10-1 on aggregate as The Lasses put promotion disappointment behind them with six unanswered goals against Blackburn. Manchester United, meanwhile, left St James's Park with their tails between their legs; our midfield trio bullying them into submission. Kevin Keegan wasn't there to see his Wor Flags tribute, but he must have savoured our first league double over the Red Devils in 94 years. It's the Manchester derby, UNITED against CITY, but it's certainly a strange one. Both of these clubs are in a bad way, though that means something different to each of them. City have fallen from champion grace but are still battling for a Champions League place. United, on the other hand, are 13th in the league with eight matches left to play. It's an incredible state of affairs for one of Europe's true superclubs, and on this week's show, the brilliant Carl Anka of The Athletic suggests that United are becoming something like the Dallas Cowboys: a giant global sporting institution that's lost its magic. We got into how the Red Devils spent their way into this mess, how City have become a team with a soft underbelly, and why this Sunday's encounter may be a meeting of the legless midfields. If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review! French overseas territories: Martinique's Creole melting pot

France in focus

In France's overseas departments, Creole language and culture are seen as a bulwark against racism and standardisation. The concept of "Créoleness" was developed in the late 1980s, in the wake of Aimé Césaire's writings on Négritude and Edouard Glissant's notion of "Antillanité", or a specifically Caribbean identity. Our reporters Florence Gaillard and Georges Yazbeck travelled to Martinique to hear from those who embody this complex identity.  Following the Christian calendar, the four days before Ash Wednesday are known as "les jours gras" in Martinique: a time of celebration and mischief. Everyone is invited to the carnival: rich, poor, white, black, locals and tourists. The festivities are populated by some emblematic local characters: King Vaval, the Red Devils and Marianne La Po Fig, a mysterious creature made of banana leaves. According to Marie-Lyne Psyché-Salpétrier, president of the Recherches et Traditions association, Marianne La Po Fig is part of Martinique's spiritual pantheon, handed down by the island's Yoruba ancestors and belonging to its African roots. Philosopher Edouard Glissant called Martinique "the melting pot of the world". Like all Creole societies, it is the product of three centuries of colonisation and a mixture of European, African and Asian populations. The indigenous Amerindians, known as Kalinagos or Caribs, have all but disappeared. This physical and cultural intermingling has led to the emergence of a popular language: Creole. Long associated with slavery, Creole was forbidden in the classroom and frowned upon in polite society. Yet the language continued to evolve – largely thanks to songs and stories – and today it's a poetic, multi-layered idiom. We meet Jocelyne Béroard, a singer with the group Kassav', who told us more about the inherent poetry of Créole and how she uses it on stage and in daily life. Meanwhile, the "Groupe d'Etudes et de Recherches en Espace Créole" has been working for almost 30 years to lay the written foundations of Creole, publishing dictionaries and novels in a Creole that borrows expressions from Martinique, French Guiana, Haiti and Reunion Island. More importantly, GEREC has fought to bring Creole to school textbooks and universities and thereby formalise its use beyond the oral sphere. In 1989, Raphaël Confiant, Jean Bernabé and Patrick Chamoiseau published "Eloge de la Créolité" or "In Praise of Creoleness". This manifesto celebrates Creole identity as the acceptance of all diversities and the endorsement of plural identities. For its co-author Confiant: "Creoleness is, in fact, the opposite of apartheid!"

MANCHESTER UNITED vs ARSENAL is the essential Premier League rivalry for fans of a certain age. These two clubs battled for titles season after season in the early 2000s in what some might call the league's greatest era. Then Arsène Wenger lost his magic touch, Sir Alex Ferguson won the war, and Arsenal fans had to listen to Patrice Evra come out after every encounter between the two and declare that it was "men against boys.” From there, it was a steady decline away from championship contention for the club from North London. When Ferguson left, United had their own downfall, and now they've sunk farther than the eighth-place finish Arsenal endured towards the beginning of manager Mikel Arteta's reign. The Red Devils are in terrible shape after a decade of self-sabotage, cycling through managers and executives and even — with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe — ownership structures. None of it's helped, and now this week's guest — Manchester United fan and host of Touchline Fracas, Morayo Bamidele — fears his team could be embarrassed at Old Trafford. If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review! It will help spread the good word. For kickoff times and storylines on all the matches worth your time this weekend, check TheFootballWeekend.com. Hosted on Acast. Liverpool earned a narrow victory in Europe last night as Harvey Elliot's late goal proved enough to see off PSG in the French capital, but it was the Reds goalkeeper who earned the plaudits. Alisson denied just about everyone in blue at the Parc Des Princes, giving Arne Slot's side something to defend in the second leg.Elsewhere, attention turns to Manchester United and Spurs in the Europa League tonight, with Real Sociedad awaiting the Red Devils, keen to extend their recent misery. Is the competition something United should be targeting as winnable? Or is it all about continuing to adapt to the Ruben Amorim system? Send us a textWelcome back, TOT fans! We are getting close to the title run in, with Liverpool holding a tenuous seven point lead over rivals Arsenal. The boys discuss all the games from the previous weekend, starting with the Spurs double over United. Turns out Anthony wasn't the problem, it was the Red Devils! Will Amorim make it through to next season? We don't mean sacked, we mean will he walk! Then we get into boring Liverpool, and the game of the season thus far in the Merseyside Derby. It was an incredible match and a fitting end to the rivalry at Goodison. We get into the other match ups and talk about Arsenal, and discuss how their lack of a 9 might affect their title hopes. After that, we get into the run in and look at some of the fixtures that could make or break the two teams fighting for the crown. Could the season come down to the May 10th meeting between the two? Before we wrap up with a preview of the games coming up, Asher asks the boys a "would you rather," score in an FA Cup Final, or a UCL Knockout game? We'd love to hear your take on the matter! Which would you choose? Thank you for listening and supporting us! Please like, subscribe, share, download, and as always, we love you!
