Lawyer and legal scholar Timon Cline joins the podcast to share his ambitious proposal to revisit and overturn the Supreme Court's 1947 ruling on the Establishment Clause in Everson v. Board of Education. Drawing on his recent Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy article, "Everson Must Fall," co-authored with Josh Hammer (James Wilson '21) and Yoram Hazony, Cline explains the role that the opinion has played in misshaping our culture and a potential path to its reversal. Timon Cline is the Editor in Chief at American Reformer. He is an attorney and a fellow at the Craig Center at Westminster Theological Seminary and the Director of Scholarly Initiatives at the Hale Institute of New Saint Andrews College. Amy Wax, professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania, talks to Timon about her cancellation, the state of academia, and western civilization.    Amy Wax is a tenured professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she has taught since 2001, holding the Robert Mundheim Professor of Law chair since 2007. A native of Troy, New York, she earned a B.S. summa cum laude in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale in 1975, a Marshall Scholarship to Oxford, and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1981, where she trained as a neurologist. She completed her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1987, serving as an editor of the Columbia Law Review. Wax clerked for Judge Abner J. Mikva and argued 15 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court while working in the Office of the Solicitor General. She taught at the University of Virginia School of Law from 1994 to 2001. Her academic work focuses on social welfare law, family policy, and labor markets. Hunter Baker, provost and professor at North Greenville University, joins Timon and Josh to talk about his new book, Postliberal Protestants: Baptists Between Obergefell and Christian Nationalism.    Hunter Baker, J.D., Ph.D. serves as provost and dean of the faculty of North Greenville University. He is the author of three books (The End of Secularism, Political Thought: A Student's Guide, and The System Has a Soul), has contributed chapters and forewords to 21 others, and has published over 40 articles and essays. His work has been translated into Italian, Polish, and in the near future, Chinese. He is the winner of the 2011 Michael Novak Award conferred by the Acton Institute and has lectured widely on matters of religion and liberty. In addition to his work at North Greenville, Baker also serves as a contributing editor for Touchstone: A Journal of Mere Christianity and as an associate editor of the Journal of Markets and Morality. He is a fellow of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the Center for Religion, Culture, and Democracy, and the Land Center for Cultural Engagement. Joshua Mitchell, professor at Georgetown University, joins Timon and Josh for a wide ranging discussion about America, identity politics, and Protestantism.    Joshua Mitchell, PhD. is currently professor of political theory at Georgetown University. He has been Chairman of the Government Department and also Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at SFS-Q. During the 2008-10 academic years, Dr. Mitchell was took Leave from Georgetown, and was the Acting Chancellor of The American University of Iraq - Sulaimani. His research interest lies in the relationship between political thought and theology in the West. He has published articles in The Review of Politics, The Journal of Politics, The Journal of Religion, APSR, and Political Theory. In 1993 his book, NOT BY REASON ALONE: RELIGION, HISTORY, AND IDENTITY IN EARLY MODERN THOUGHT, was published by the University of Chicago Press. A second book, THE FRAGILITY OF FREEDOM: TOCQUEVILLE ON RELIGION, DEMOCRACY, AND THE AMERICAN FUTURE, was published in 1995, also by the University of Chicago Press. In 2006, PLATO'S FABLE: ON THE MORTAL CONDITION IN SHADOWY TIMES, was published by Princeton University Press. His most recent book, TOCQUEVILLE IN ARABIA: DILEMMAS IN A DEMOCRATIC AGE, was published by the University of Chicago Press in 2013. More recently, he finished a book entitled, AMERICAN AWAKENING: IDENTITY POLITICS AND OTHER AFFLICTIONS OF OUR TIME, to be published shortly by Encounter Books (2020). Jon Whitehead, attorney and former board member of the ERLC, joins the show to talk about the significance and implications for pastors of the Trump administration's recent changes to the tax code.   Jonathan Whitehead represents churches, denominations, colleges, and religious organizations on matters of corporate governance and compliance. He played a leading role in landmark Missouri cases on the relationship between denominational groups and their related entities. He has authored numerous amicus briefs and been co-counsel on cases before the United States Supreme Court. In 2018, he was named an "Influential Appellate Advocate" by Missouri's Lawyers Weekly. He is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University (2001) and Harvard Law School (2004). A Christian, husband, and father of six, Burns is a conservative Republican known for his outspoken leadership and commitment to economic growth, public safety, and family values. He has focused on revitalizing downtown Monroe, expanding infrastructure, and attracting new industries. Burns, a newcomer to politics, emphasizes transparency and community engagement, often using social media and his YouTube channel to connect with residents. His tenure has faced controversy, including a 2024 censure by the Monroe City Council over a proclamation celebrating the Roe v. Wade reversal and a 2025 no-confidence vote for his communication style and use of city branding. In today's episode of the Center for Baptist Leadership podcast, William Wolfe sits down with Ambassador Designee for International Religious Freedom at the State Department, former Congressman and Pastor, Mark Walker, to discuss the global fight for religious freedom, working with President Trump, and his service as a pastor and congressman.   Mark Walker is an American politician and former pastor who served as a U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 6th congressional district from 2015 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Walker was elected to lead the Republican Study Committee in 2017 and served as vice chair of the House Republican Conference in 2019. In 2024, Walker joined Donald Trump's presidential campaign as director of faith and minority outreach. American Reformer contributor and Claremont Institute fellow, Scott Yenor, joins Josh and Timon to talk about his experience in conservative higher education reform.    Scott Yenor is a Washington Fellow at The Claremont Institute's Center for the American Way of Life. His research focuses on feminism, sexual liberation, and on dismantling the rule of social justice in America's universities. Yenor is author of Family Politics: The Idea of Marriage in Modern Political Thought (Baylor, 2011). His latest book is The Recovery of Family Life: Exposing the Limits of Modern Ideologies (Baylor 2020). In addition, his academic publications have appeared in Law & Liberty, The Federalist, City Journal, and The Claremont Review of Books. He is a political science professor at Boise State University. He earned his Ph.D from Loyola University, Chicago. Lewis began his pastoral ministry in 1999, while a senior in high school, as an interim pastor in rural Rapides Parish, Louisiana. That experience, along with his other ministry experiences (he served churches in Louisiana and Texas) have given him a passion for people and the Word of God.
