Huntress is an American heavy metal band. It was founded in the underground music scene of Highland Park, California when lead vocalist Jill Janus moved to Los Angeles where she met an underground metal band called 'Professor' in 2009. Huntress was signed by Napalm Records in November 2011. A debut EP Off with Her Head was released in 2010. On December 27, 2011, they released their first single, "Eight of Swords", to promote their debut album, Spell Eater. In October 2015, Janus posted a now-deleted note on Facebook announcing the band would finish its activities, but that she would continue to make music. Lead guitarist Blake Meahl, however, dismissed her statement as a consequence of her health and mental issues, and said the band would continue to perform. On August 14, 2018, Jill Janus died by suicide. RIP Jill Janus. This is gonna be a rough one. On this very special episode I talk about the dearly departed Jill Janus, the lead vocalist from the band Huntress and her untimely demise. It really cuts down to my soul. I reminisce about meeting Jill, seeing Huntress live, and talk about depression and the pain of being a man. I have a special guest with me, the 4 Color Demons vest wearing kitten herself, Kweekling! After my candid conversation about life, death, suicide, depression and dark thoughts, I give a shout out to Chris Laudando, the roast master of TESD Town. I also shout out a couple of cool ant ladies on this one. I talk about new job prospects, and also the importance of music, artistic expression, and my thoughts on the ALL IN independent wrestling PPV held by Cody and the Young Bucks. There's also bits of Huntress music in this one, including the demo that brought Huntress together, and the last Jill Janus song I ever heard. RIP JILL! Australian heavy metal is in fantastic hands at the moment especially with our recent discovery of one of the BEST upcoming heavy/thrash metal bands we've had the chance to lay ears on and (luckily for you) they're featuring on Episode #51 of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall. The band is PurEnvy and they reign from Newcastle's Hunter Valley, but it's not wine drinking these lads are known for, it's the blistering, face melting shredding on their new album Redemption that needs to be heard to be believed. The album was released back in March but its surprising it hasn't taken off since then, so we grabbed frontman Adam Kiefel to chat about the band's history, the musicians who influenced them all to turn into the riff lords they are today and the interesting way they approached this album, which took over a year to make in Adam's former two-car-garage-turned-home-studio. But don't let that throw you off, the sound this band produced is incredible. Also, Scott Ian (Anthrax/The Damned Things) calls through for a chat about his upcoming Spoken Word Tour in which he'll be sharing stories from his travels and experiences in bands throughout his life. He even offers up a yarn about Anthrax's first visit to Australia which almost resulted in a cancelled show when fans broke the barricade. But in a surprising twist, he also reveals a follow-up album from The Damned Things could be arriving sooner than expected. Podcast host Browny also pays tribute to Huntress frontwoman Jill Janus who sadly took her own life last week age 43. If you or anyone you know needs help with their own mental well-being call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 or find your closest Suicide Prevention/Crisis Support Organisation on Google… There's also plenty of metal throwbacks from Iron Maiden, Temtris, Satyricon, Trivium, Metallica, Sabaton, Killer Be Killed and Iced Earth, New Music from Soulfly and heaps more. #WoSUATW #PurEnvy #AdamKiefel #ThrashMetal #HeavyMetal #Redemption #Australianbands #ScottIan #Anthrax #TheDamnedThings #Trivium #Huntress #JillJanus #Soilwork #Satyricon #MxCavalera #KillerBeKilled #Soulfly #Temtris #IcedEarth #Metallica #Sabaton #IronMaiden #Podcast #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU
This week on Westwood One's Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon, new interviews with Enuff Z'Nuff's Chip Z'Nuff, Culture Club's Boy George and the mighty Judas Priest's Rob Halford. Former Great White/ Guns N' Roses manager Alan Niven co-hosts and discusses the recent lead singer change in Great White. Our first interview is with the affable Chip Z'Nuff. We discuss the band's latest album Diamond Boy, taking over the vocal duties, being around for nearly 35 years, the upcoming fall tour with Jack Russell's Great White, Guns N' Roses Steven Adler, bad records deals, The M3 Festival, the cost of touring, the Soundcheck Experience, wearing a dress at shows, and much more. During the interview I forget to use the cough button and at Chip's behest I leave it as is for all to hear that blooper. Up next is Culture Club singer Boy George, they will be in Montreal on August 25th playing the Strangers In The Night (strangersinthenight.ca) charity event in support of the West Island's Women Shelter, Lymphoma Canada and the Miriam Foundation. As a supporter of those charities, I felt it was important to do this interview and promote the event. Culture Club's new album LIFE is out October 26th. We also discuss the importance of making new music, continuing as a solo artist and more. And we end this episode with... THE METAL GOD (Rob Halford). We discuss Firepower, the tour with Deep Purple, Andy Sneap's future in the band, Aretha Franklin, Huntress' Jill Janus, mental health and more. Help support the show. On this special "half" episode of The MetalSucks Podcast we share a never-before-heard interview with Huntress frontwoman Jill Janus, who tragically took her own life earlier this week. The interview was conducted by MetalSucks Podcast host Petar Spajic a few years back at a Huntress headlining show in Las Vegas and has not been published anywhere until now. Explains Petar: "When I got the opportunity to interview Jill I was just a guy without an audience who just wanted to learn how to talk to bands and spread my love of heavy metal. Jill knew this and knew this interview would not be heard by many, or any, but was all about giving me the opportunity. I learned that if you are a part of this community and love the music people will always give you a chance if you are willing to try, and Jill did that for me. "I have a small list of bands that allowed me to use them as practice for me to try to do this on any scale in the future, and Huntress was the only band I never got to pay it forward to when Vince and Axl allowed asked us to do The MetalSucks Podcast. I looked for press releases every week in hopes of getting a new Huntress album so I could attack the publicist to get them on and help them, because that's what they did for me. "This interview holds a special place to me because unlike all the other wonderful bands and people who helped me along the way this is the only one I've aired posthumously. Thank you, Jill, for allowing me to learn on your time and making me feel like I knew what I was doing when I clearly had no clue. Thank you Blake for taking my camera and taking pictures of Jill I when I was too shy to even consider asking, and I hope this can somehow get your music to more ears. "Rest in peace, Jill; you helped out many and will continue to do so with your songs more than you will ever know." Songs: Huntress - "Blood Brothers" Huntress - "Harsh Time on Planet Stoked" Huntress - "Eight of Swords"

This week the legendary Max Cavalera joins us for our first ever live podcast interview. We took some time before his show in Austin to talk about his philosophy on metal, working with guests on his albums, the formation of a path for himself after Sepultura, coming back together with his brother after such a bad split, and how his children use their coping skills versus what he had to do as a young child growing up when his father died. We also cover Jill Janus and the strange circumstances surrounding her split -- and subsequent return -- to Huntress, what mental illness looks like and why the metal world is accusing us of talking about her only because she is a woman. Can metal commentators help themselves from name-calling and shaming? Not so much, but the double standard may not be quite what some people say when compared to other people with similar problems. Songs:Soulfly - "Live Life Hard!"Abigail Williams - "Will, Wish and Desire"
In this episode the guys hit on a number of topics: Jill Janus' Facebook post, the return of King Diamond to touring, and whether production videos are an important part of experiencing music.
