On episode 123 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by guest-host, Garrison Hayes. Garrison is an NAACP-nominated journalist with the news magazine, Mother Jones. He produces short documentaries where he explores the hidden or forgotten corners of Black history, faith, and politics (and his love of books). Goes Sideways Illinois Senate Race, Stratton Wins the Primary Secretary of War Hegseth Criticizes Media Coverage of the Iran War Not only did the “Secretary of War” criticize the media’s coverage of the Iran war–he offered his own rewrites of specific headlines, and said that he “can’t wait” for David Ellison to take over CNN. Billionaire David Ellison is close to Trump and recently acquired CNN (as part of the Warner Bros. Discovery deal). He is expected to make CNN’s coverage more conservative, just as he did with CBS. Meanwhile, Trump’s FCC Chair, Brendan Carr, has threatened to pull the licenses of TV broadcasters who are critical of the Iran war. Media suppression is part of Trump’s brand of heavy-handed American imperialism that has dropped even the pretense of following international law. After launching overt operations to topple regimes in Venezuela and Iran, he casually floated the idea of “taking” Cuba as well. What a night at the Oscars! From Barbara Streisand's surprise live performance of "The Way We Were”, to Michael B Jordan's emotional best actor win, to best supporting actress nominee Teyana Taylor backstage confronting a security guard who says “shoved” her. The 98th annual Academy Awards won't soon be forgotten. Our Victoria Recano and Fandango's Nikki Novak joined Jim Moret for our red-carpet coverage. And even if you watched until the final envelope was opened, there were still a number of secrets from the night we can now answer, including why the big Bridesmaids reunion was missing...a bridesmaid. Plus, outspoken Democratic congresswoman Jasmine Crockett just lost the primary for the US Senate, but she's back in the headlines because her bodyguard was just killed by a Dallas SWAT team. Turns out, he was a wanted fugitive. We've been closely following the case of the woman who wrote a children's book about grief after her husband died, who is now on trial for his murder. In a move that stunned the courtroom, Corey Richins defense team didn't call a single witness in the case. The marathon that is Awards Season (at least for those of us with jobs in media) finally came to its close last night. As has become tradition, the Run-Through podcast hosts, along with colleagues Taylor Antrim and Christian Allaire, gathered early on this foggy morning to discuss their takes on the 98th Academy Awards. The conversation started off with everyone's best dressed picks. For Chioma, this included Wunmi Mosaku who dazzled in her sparkling emerald green Louis Vuitton dress. The list of best dressed also included Renate Reinsve, another star in Louis Vuitton, and Gwenyth Paltrow in Armani Privé who both sported dramatic slits. Slits were just one of the fashion trends making a splash on last night's red carpet, reminding editors of Angelina Jolie's internet-breaking dress slit at the 2012 ceremony. Feathers were another item in vogue on the carpet and were worn by Teyana Taylor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, and Best Supporting Actress winner Amy Madigan. A conversation around the many jewels and rare diamonds being worn last night spawned a curiosity about the guards who work the Oscars. Perhaps a 2027 diamond guard get ready with me story is forthcoming? As for two of the biggest categories of the night—best actor and best actress—everyone was in agreement that Michael B Jordan and recent guest of the podcast Jessie Buckley, were chic and deserving winners. This is one of those “who knows what's going to happen” years at the Oscars. And maybe the biggest question of the night is which movie will dominate: “Sinners,” with its record 16 nominations, or “One Battle After Another,” which is right behind with 13. One is a vampire movie set in the Jim Crow South, featuring not one but two Michael B. Jordans. The other imagines a leftist revolutionary outfit led by Black women — Teyana Taylor! — facing off against a racist, sexist, authoritarian government. No matter what, we're talking about a pretty exciting night — including for many Black people. But you know how it is with race and the Oscars. It is never that simple. Because there are some people who are not rooting for Paul Thomas Anderson's version of Black feminist-driven revolution. And a lot of those people are Black feminists themselves. Including Wesley's dear friend, the scholar Daphne A. Brooks. After leaving the theater, she sent him a text calling it “a Black feminist 911 emergency.” So before the biggest awards of the industry are handed out, Wesley invites Daphne on the show to ask her, “What's the 911 situation here?” Subscribe today at nytimes.com/podcasts or on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The Oscars are almost here! On the fifty- eighth episode of ATFT, my friends filmmaker Emma Catherine, movie lover Taylor Donaldson, and Emmy- winning photojournalist Cole Echevarria join this year's panel to discuss the Oscar nominated films and share our predicted winners! This episode is explicit and spoiler- filled. As Cole and I discussed in the “2025 in Film” episode, this past year has been a solid, diverse year for cinema and that is very much reflected in the Academy Award nominees. This year's awards season has largely been excitingly unpredictable, making the Oscar's more highly anticipated than usual. The four of us share many of the same favorite 2025 films such as Hamnet, One Battle After Another, and Sinners. The latter, which reunited one of the best actor- director collaborators of our time (Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler), has already made history as the most nominated film in Oscars history. There were several actors who became first time nominees from Renate Reinsve to Teyana Taylor to Delroy Lindo. It's a competitive year with so many great films and artists nominated. But there is one particular film and actor that we find overrated and it becomes a continuous topic of discussion… but you'll have to listen to the episode to find out about what we're talking about. This is the fourth annual Oscars special! Cole has been a part of this big episode all four years and this episode marks his 21st appearance on the All the Film Things! Since the Oscars is the “Super Bowl for film fans”, this episode was aimed to be more of a Sports Center/ panelist format. This is the first time Emma and Taylor have joined the Oscars special panel, making this Emma's second appearance on the show and Taylor's fifth! Emma joined our friend filmmaker Franklin Ritch and I for an analytical discussion on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this past September while Taylor hasn't been on the podcast since the 1999 in Film episode, which was released a year and a half ago. This episode was recorded on February 17, 2026. It was originally 2 hours and 45 minutes so it really had to be trimmed down and, sadly, some hilarious moments, were left on the cutting room floor. After a sold out Cirque de Mort show in October, Emma will soon be performing in another aerial showcase for Jax Beach Aerial Arts this May! This spring showcase is in development so there will be more information to come! I'll be sure to post about it on the All the Films Things Instagram but follow Emma on Instagram to stay updated! Taylor, who is based in North Carolina, is currently looking for a new job! Though she has a degree in film and experience in film production, she is very open to working in other industries. After working with her on a few projects, I can attest she is wonderful, hard- working, and easy to work with! Reach out to her on LinkedIn about potential job opportunities! In this episode, Cole, Taylor, Emma, and I go through each category sharing our thoughts on what should win and what will likely win, according to Gold Derby and Cole's new favorite writer Scott Fineberg from The Hollywood Reporter. Cole, who continuously brings up Fineberg, shared great insight about the documentaries nominated this year. He also has a short rant about a film that shouldn't have been nominated for Best Visual Effects. Cole and I's banter nearly hits our peak in this episode, partly because of those two reasons. Taylor reveals which Oscar- nominated actor scares her, Emma shares her least favorite Safdie brother and I once again champion my favorite actor who has a chance at earning his second Oscar this year. All this and much more on this new episode of All the Film Things!ATFT Announcement!: All the Film Things will be back on April 8! It is inspired by the 1990 novel "Vineland" by Thomas Pynchon and features an ensemble cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, with Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti (in her film debut). The story follows an ex-revolutionary who is forced back into his former life of violence when a corrupt military officer pursues him and his daughter. With a budget of $130–175 million, it is the most expensive film of Anderson's career. It garnered widespread acclaim and numerous accolades. These include three wins at the 31st Critics' Choice Awards (including Best Picture), four wins at the 83rd Golden Globes (including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy), one win and a record seven nominations at the 32nd Actor Awards (including Outstanding Performance by a Cast), six wins at the 79th British Academy Film Awards (including Best Film), and thirteen nominations at the 98th Academy Awards (including Best Picture). The American Film Institute also listed the film among the top ten films of 2025, and it won five awards from the National Board of Review (including Best Film), as well as Best Picture prizes from the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the National Society of Film Critics. Teyana Taylor and cinematographer Michael Bauman were kind enough to spend some time speaking with Next Best Picture Owner & Editor In Chief Matt Neglia. Ema Sasic spoke with Chase Infiniti, and Brendan Hodges spoke with the film's editor, Andy Jurgensen. You can listen to all of these interviews below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now available to watch at home on 4K UHD from Warner Bros. Pictures and is up for your consideration for the 98th Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Anderson), Best Actor (DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Del Toro and Penn), Best Supporting Actress (Taylor), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, and Best Sound. Buckle up, because Paul Thomas Anderson's thrilling and wildly original film One Battle After Another is quite the ride. We went in completely blind…and honestly, it made the experience that much better. The movie surprised us at every turn with its dark humor, sharp dialogue, and a plot that feels completely fresh in a world full of reboots and sequels. It brings a perfectly crafted soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood (the guitarist from Radiohead), which set a tone that boosted both the anxiety and absurdity throughout, to the standout performances from a truly talented ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti.Stick around until the end for a round of Movie 20 Questions.Safe travels, nomads.

189: Prince Andrew arrested at Wood Farm, The Oscar-nominated movies

Gossip With Celebitchy

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 1:45 Chandra has been going through a tough time and we've been protecting our peace. We celebrate our 20 year anniversary next week! I founded Celebitchy in February, 2006 and Chandra has worked here since late 2008.  Royals: Minutes 1:45 to 14:00 Prince Andrew was arrested at Wood Farm in Sandringhham on Thursday for "suspicions of misconduct in public office." New documents in the latest Epstein file release suggest that he traded confidential information with Epstein in a kind of quid pro quo for access to trafficked girls. Police also searched Andrew's former residence, Royal Lodge. Andrew had to be forced out of Royal Lodge earlier this month after being spotted riding his horse and waving to tourists. He was originally supposed to move out last year. In the latest cache of Epstein files it came out that Epstein had trafficked a 20-year-old woman to Prince Andrew in 2010. Andrew could face years in jail. King Charles issued a statement after Andrew's arrest saying, in part, "the law must take its course." His previous statement from February 9 was that he stands "ready to support" the police "as you would expect," and "their Majesties' thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse." Other family members have also said they were thinking of the victims. Charles and Queen Elizabeth's defense has been that they believed Andrew's lies. This defense falls flat when you consider that they had MI6 at their disposal. Andrew still has royal protection somehow. We learned too many things that we don't want to know about Epstein and his evil associates. We don't get into the details. I pay a segment from Zoom from last week we talked about the royals and Epstein.  Chandra hopes that Andrew has to face real consequences and thinks this may be the end of the monarchy as everyone is involved. We've heard that Prince William's charity received donations from known close associates to Epstein. Will and Kate are mishandling this despite hiring a crisis manager. William recently did a BBC interview were he talked about men's mental health. This was widely criticized as tone deaf. Oscar-nominated movies: Minutes 14 to end Chandra has seen Sinners, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, The Secret Agent, Bugonia, Frankenstein and half of Sentimental Value. I've seen Sinners, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, Train Dreams and half of Hamnet. I didn't like Train Dreams or Hamnet, although I only saw half of Hamnet. Chandra loved Sentimental Value and says the acting is amazing. She hopes Wagner Moura wins best actor for The Secret Agent. She loathed Marty Supreme and thinks Timothee Chalamet should not win for that performance. I liked Marty Supreme a lot. My favorite movie is Sinners and I want Michael B. Jordan to win. Chandra wants Teyana Taylor to win supporting actress. This awards season has been chaotic. I also saw If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and didn't like it. Chandra liked Bugonia but mostly for the ending. She also loved Lanthimos' Poor Things and thinks Emma Stone deserved the Oscar for that.

The trio dives headfirst into the 2026 Grammys Runway Rundown— delivering their signature takes on the good, the bad, the ugly, and the unforgettable “fire the stylist!” moments. The show kicks off with their classic intro before reminding listeners they can book an Armenian Coffee Reading at PolAtteu.com — virtually or live in West Hollywood — and grab a SnowWhite90210 SnowBubu (the ultimate glam accessory for your Birkin, backpack or shelf). Then it's straight to fashion fireworks. Chappell Roan stuns in a bordeaux cape moment that transforms from understated elegance to bold art reveal — complete with nipple rings. Pol praises the risk; Patrik debates the appropriateness. Art vs. shock value sets the tone for the episode. Chaka Khan in Christian Siriano sparks heated discussion: corsetry, coke feathers, mesh boots and gold nails. Glam icon? Yes. Modern? Debatable. The proportions and dated structure divide the room.  Benson Boone (Armani) brings black-on-black layering lessons, prompting a masterclass on dye lots and fabric depth. Meanwhile, Angelique Kidjo in Louis Vuitton velvet is declared powerful, polished, and perfectly proportioned — head wrap, double-breasted suit and all. Adrienne Bailon Houghton's crystal architectural gown reads vintage flapper fantasy, while Addison Rae's Alaïa white tiered plunge feels more Met Gala than Grammys. Sticky tape fashion tips ensue. Jennifer Hudson earns rave reviews for her ruched leather Killian Koerner gown with dramatic shoulder and cascading slit — Grammy edge done right. Jewelry layering advice follows. Justin & Hailey Bieber deliver coordinated black Balenciaga/Alaïa cool. Sexy, confident, curated sloppy. Justin's stripped-down performance ignites debate: raw genius or missed theatrical moment? Karol G's pistachio lace Paolo Sebastian gown divides over tassels vs. sultry silhouette. Yungblud in Chrome Hearts revives rock energy with leather, chains and a cross pendant. Sombr's iridescent Valentino suit with “Happy Rose” lace is called one of the night's best — shimmering, daring and Grammy-perfect. Pol even volunteers to recreate it.  Sabrina Carpenter (Valentino couture) looks beautiful but “Emmys, not Grammys." Rosé in Giambattista Valli feels elegant yet lacking edge. Paris Hilton channels Material Girl in bugle-beaded Nicholas Jebran with opera gloves and diamonds. Accessory masterclass unlocked.  Miley Cyrus (Celine) gets labeled “rock mom office-core,” while Lady Gaga's feathered Matières Fécales creation is praised as theatrical Grammy fantasy — thousands of feathers, Maleficent collar, full commitment.  Kesha's white feather Atelier Versace is deemed poorly constructed and overwhelming, while Doechii in Cavalli purple confection feels Moulin Rouge meets prom curtain. Darren Criss (Tanner Fletcher brocade) impresses but needs a brooch moment. Billie Eilish (Hodakova) delivers inside-out conceptual tailoring — authentic and Grammys appropriate and Audrey Nuna (Thom Browne couture) is admired artistically but “the outfit wore her.” Finally, Teyana Taylor in Tom Ford closes the fashion segment flawlessly — sculpted, confident, fully accessorized diva energy. It's Oscar Season, Degen style, as Andy S and Brandon Bombay talk about Paul Thomas Anderson's instant classic, 'One Battle After Another.' Andy kicks it off by recalling a time he had a run-in with the cops while driving where he was questioned about his sobriety, and the legality of his friend in the backseat. Then the boys dive straight into PTA's sprawling thriller/comedy and begin with the magnetism Teyana Taylor brings to her role, and how they would gladly commit domestic terrorism for her. Sean Penn delivers his most unhinged performance in years (and easily his horniest) as the despicable Col. Stephen J. Lockjaw who's involved in a sordid relationship with Taylor's Perfidia Beverly Hills that is the inciting incident for the whole movie. Of course, at the center of it all is Leonard DiCaprio's brain friend Bob Ferguson, who finds an ally in Benicio del Toro's beer-guzzling sensei. In many ways this is PTA's 'Road Warrior' as it culminates in a gorgeously-shot epic road chase, and the episode mirrors the propulsive energy of the flick. By the end you'll have "no fear, just like Tom f**kin' Cruise."

The episode opens with SnowBuBu love, Armenian coffee cup reading reminders, and Pol's signature fashion education as the duo identifies this year's dominant trends: minimalism, sheer “naked” dressing, metallics, sculptural tailoring, and statement diamonds. From there, the gloves come off. Pol' and Patrik critique the night's biggest looks, hits, and misfires—debating Owen Cooper's Bottega Veneta, Patrick Schwarzenegger's Dolce & Gabbana tux, and Zoë Kravitz's Saint Laurent nightgown-meets-Easter-tablecloth moment. One Battle After Another earned 13 Oscar nominations - including best picture, best director and a lead actor nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio. In the action-thriller, DiCaprio plays a washed up ex-revolutionary searching for his missing daughter while raging against the machine. In this case, the machine is unabashedly racist, xenophobic, and corrupt. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the ensemble also includes Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor and Benicio del Toro. Today, we're revisiting our episode about the film that originally aired in September 2025. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck share the screen again in new Netflix film, The Rip. Similar to the pulpy, midbudget cop movies we used to get, The Rip is about a team of cops who are trying to take a huge stash of money from a drug cartel. But that work is not only dangerous, but also complicated as they encounter more money than they expected. The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, and Kyle Chandler.Follow Pop Culture Happy Hour on Letterboxd at letterboxd.com/nprpopcultureLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
