We've got a lot going on right here in LA. And this is a very L.A.-centric episode of the show. The City Of Angels has undergone a lot of turmoil in the past two years. Like many cities in America, it has a houselessness problem that is beyond pale. Construction is running wild but it doesn't seem to be for anything that anyone wants or particularly needs, and yet, it is still L.A., and even the most dour predictions for the future are leavened by a glimmer of hope that some how, some way, something decent will prevail. We have two fantastic guests. Karie Bible came to Los Angeles by way of Texas, fell in love with LA and its history, and submerged herself in that history by way of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where she has been giving tours for lo about 20 years now. She has amazing stories of both the living and the dead, and we are super happy to have her today. And also, our old pal Alison Martino, a famed Los Angeles historian, she of the the L.A. Conservancy, the Vintage LA Facebook group and Vintage LA on Insta.
The Boys are joined by Jeff Bock and Karie Bible from Exhibitors Relations Co. (ERC) to talk about WONDER WOMAN 1984's less than wonderful 2nd weekend, a surprise (and probably FRAUDULENT) $3M haul for SONIC THE HEDGEHOG and why Kids Love Croods. Then we put on our prognostication hats and serve up some HOT PREDICTIONS for 2021! MISS THIS ONE AND BE SORRY! Rudolph Valentino stars in THE SHEIK, the silent epic from 1921 that made him a superstar. In this episode of CMR, James and Lara are joined by film historian Karie Bible, who leads tours at Hollywood Forever Cemetery (www.CemeteryTour.com), to talk about THE SHEIK in the mausoleum where Valentino’s crypt is located. We discuss the enduring appeal of Valentino, how his chest size changed the course of his future, and the surprisingly touching story behind “The Woman in Black,” who leaves a single rose at his grave every year. We also touch on what an achievement an epic film like THE SHEIK was in 1921, and how silent films were never really silent. Join us on location and see if you, too, fall under Valentino’s spell!
