Lux Radio Theatre, a hugely popular hour-long radio show, brought dramas to life with live audiences for over twenty years. It aired on various networks from 1934 to 1955 and started with Broadway plays before switching to movies. It was so successful it even got a TV version, Lux Video Theatre. Sponsored by Lux Soap, the show kicked off in 1934 with Seventh Heaven and had recurring characters like producer Douglass Garrick. A big moment came in 1936 when Cecil B. DeMille became the host, attracting big movie stars. They paid actors well, usually getting the original stars from the films they adapted. While focused on movies, they also had famous radio personalities. They even adapted a radio show, The Life of Riley, and did a show with an all-soldier cast during World War II. There's a funny story about a made-up blooper involving Sonny Tufts that people thought was real. DeMille left over a disagreement about union rules. After him, several people hosted until William Keighley took over for a while. The show had tons of famous stage and screen stars, making it a real golden age of radio.
Cancer, as physician and author Siddhartha Mukherjee writes, is the emperor of all maladies. The disease—the over 200 different diseases all falling under this umbrella term—has been with us as long as we've been us. If anything is truly ancient, it is the cancer cells that are in all of our bodies, just waiting to be turned on if the conditions are right, or if our genes dictate the inevitability. Deep in wellness land, cancer is something entirely different. It's avoidable if you stop consuming seed oils, stop using 5G, stop thinking negative thoughts, and by god, stop taking those jabs that cause all the turbo cancers going around. And with every wellness warning comes a wellness solution. Today our correspondent, Mallory DeMille, returns for a deep dive into the treacherous depths of one of the more insidious grifts: treating cancer with the power of…water. If you've spent one minute on social media in the last few months, you've probably heard that seed oils are extremely toxic, food dyes are the reason for rising obesity rates—oh wait, that's glyphosate—and vaccines are still causing autism. Nevermind the fact that the supposedly criminal preservative, thimerosal, was removed from almost all vaccinations in 2001. Clinical research is irrelevant in MAHA, RFK Jr's Make America Healthy Again MAGA ripoff. Wellness acolytes have found a champion in Kennedy, who's going to immediately end chronic diseases and reduce obesity rates by…checks notes…making sure every American has a gym membership. We've covered Bobby a lot on this podcast, so today our fearless correspondent, Mallory DeMille, returns to investigate one very vocal and very relieved cohort, the MAHA Mamas. They just know Kennedy is going to truly save the children, science be damned. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grandpa Bill updates New upcoming topics, guests, and revisiting "Ask The Doc" with Dr. Jeff Fineman Grandpa Bill Look Up in The Sky It's A bird It's a Plane No It's Not Superman! Cyberspace Security: A Never Ending Quest (Past, Present, and Future) The Past: Wild West of the Web Grandpa Bill reviews and asks: Imagine a time before firewalls, where the nascent internet resembled the Wild West. The 1980s and 1990s saw the rise of basic cyber threats like viruses and worms, targeting early computer systems. Basic security measures like strong passwords and basic firewalls were the first lines of defense. The Present: Evolving Threats, Evolving Solutions Today, cyberspace is a complex ecosystem. Sophisticated cybercriminals, state-sponsored actors, and even hacktivists pose diverse threats. The landscape is littered with malware, ransomware, phishing scams, and zero-day exploits targeting everything from personal devices to critical infrastructure. Our defenses have grown too, with advanced encryption, intrusion detection systems, and incident response teams on the front lines. The Future: A Continuous Arms Race The future of cyberspace security is an ongoing arms race. As technology advances, so will the ingenuity of cyber attackers. Artificial intelligence (AI) will likely play a significant role on both sides, with attackers using AI to develop more sophisticated attacks and defenders leveraging AI for threat detection and automated responses. New Careers on the Horizon????? Adah's Summer Internship a Topic for exploration. Security Architects: Design and implement secure IT infrastructures. Front Row Classics welcomes Ryan Bijan this week. Ryan is founder and host of Cowtown Movie Classics which curates classic films for movie goers in Fort Worth, TX. Brandon and Ryan are discussing Cecil B DeMille's 1932 pre-code epic film, The Sign of the Cross. The film, starring Fredric March, Claudette Colbert and Charles Laughton, perfectly illustrates DeMille's penchant for storytelling and grandeur. The film also features several scenes that wouldn't have gotten past the Hays Code only a couple years later.
“I have always been very vocal about sharing my black experience with my friends and family members, and as I've mentioned, I have been a natural leader in bringing people together. So, I decided to go public with my own video about what it's like raising black boys in this country, and what some of the experiences are that we go through, as well as the talks I have to have with my boys to keep them safe. That video ended up with 20,000 views within two days on Facebook–all organic. It was just off the cuff: I set up my phone and started speaking. Lieutenant Governor Cox, who was then running for governor of Utah, got wind of the video. His campaign reached out and said he and his running mate for Lieutenant Governor, Henderson, had seen my video and wanted to come chat. They came over, along with now First Lady Cox, and I was very frank with them. I said, ‘I know you are a politician and I'm sure that you have an angle–I'm not here to play that game. However, if you are going to help get the message out in a good way, that I can get behind. I began sharing some of the stories and experiences of my family and we ended up with this deep connection and became very good friends. Once they won the election, they commissioned me to serve on Project Gateway: Equity and Opportunity Commission for Utah.” Aundrea DeMille is the author of “Is It Racism? Are you ready to “live beyond 180? That's the tagline of the 10th Annual Biohacking Conference, which went down in Dallas two weeks ago. The brainchild of Dave Asprey, the conference focused on numerous “hacks” to help you live not only longer, but better and longer. This has been a decades-long goal of Asprey, who you might know as the founder of Bulletproof Coffee—you know, despite mountains of clinical evidence stating otherwise, this tech entrepreneur is certain that melting a stick of butter in your coffee every morning is the key to longevity. Was the key, that is. Dave is now behind the supposed “mold-free” coffee company, Danger Coffee, alongside a whole bunch of other sciencey gimmicks, like his “Wasabi Method,” which was launched at the conference. The key to longevity, it seems, is knowing that your sales funnel always depends on there being another key. That's the vibe our returning correspondent, Mallory DeMille, got when reviewing the many reels and videos that surfaced from the conference rooms at the Fairmont Hotel. Watch King of Kings here. Corbin's reccomendation can be seen here. Matt's can be imbibed here. Next week's episode is about 'THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD,' a different, later take on the Gospels. The 2024 Volvo V90 Cross Country isn't a startling new development. It doesn't feature a groundbreaking engine or stunning piece of safety equipment. But in a month when snow, ice, and other inclement weather can occur almost anywhere, it is a very nice old friend to have around. In this episode of America on the Road, Host, Jack Nerad roadtests the V90 Cross Country in most of the weather conditions that February in Southern California can throw at a vehicle — including a blinding snowstorm. How did the hearty Swedish station wagon fare? He will have his report coming up. Our guest co-host this week is veteran author and auto journalist Matt DeLorenzo, who is subbing for Chris Teague. Matt is the author of How To Buy An Affordable Electric Car: A Tightwad's Guide to EV Ownership and a car expert par excellence. An always affable co-host, he will reveal his take on the 2024 Mazda CX-90 three-row sport utility vehicle. Its predecessor, the CX-9, had great road presence and a premium look, but the knock on it was it was too small. Does the CX-90 suffer the same twist of fate? DeLorenzo will have the answer. If you get in an accident these days, you might want to smile because you could be on candid camera. In this area of cheap electronics and frequent litigation, dash cams are all the (road) rage, and we'll tell you all about it. Meanwhile, we are ready for our closeup, Mr. DeMille. In other news, the results of the Super Bowl car commercials are in, and we'll tell you which were the winners and which were the losers. While we won't talk to Taylor Swift, we will have an interview with a car company executive very close to the Big Game action. Our special guest is Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. He was just honored as MediaPost's 2023 Automotive Marketer of the Year. This episode has been brewing for some time. This week we ask: which hole is coffee really supposed to go in? Because, in the contrarian and conspiratorial wellness world, a growing number of influencers advocate for your morning java to go where the sun doesn't shine. If that's not alarming enough, they claim coffee enemas will treat autism, cancer, parasites, and much more. Mallory DeMille is here to finally flush out this nonsense. The boys are going to the beginning of the project timeline for this week's episode as they tackle a pair of movies from 100 years ago in 1923. First, Jake Ziegler assigns Brad Garoon the Ten Commandments, but not the version of the movie you're thinking of. Though this one is also directed by Cecil B. DeMille, it was a silent film. The fellas discuss what feels like a bait and switch, as the biblical story of Moses only takes up the first 45 minutes of this 2.5-hour film. The rest is made up of Christian moralizing and a cheesy plot. They discuss how the movie compares to DeMille's remake, the Dreamworks animated retelling of the story, and Ridley Scott's modern take. Jake assigns Brad Safety Last, Harold Lloyd's iconic comedy about a poor schmuck trying to make it big in the city. They talk about Lloyd's place in the silent movie comedy pantheon alongside Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, and how comedy like this transcends time. Jake also has a meltdown over John Turturro's religious heritage. Other movies discussed in this episode: The Ten Commandments (1956), The Prince of Egypt (1998), Alexander (2004), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (2010), Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014), Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), Napoleon (2023).

Nelson and Alex Demille stopped by to talk about their new book called Bloodlines with Mark. In addition, to what it's like being an author in this day in age.
Author Mark Angelo discusses his children's picture book, Can We Play Baseball, Mr. DeMille?, which is inspired by events from his own childhood. When Mark was a young boy, he and his brother Chris shared a love of baseball. The Dodgers had just moved to Los Angeles, and baseball fever was sweeping the city. Mark and Chris were looking for a place to play with their friends. Open spaces were difficult to find in Los Angeles, but Mark found a perfect spot for playing baseball. The only problem was that it was owned by none other than Hollywood legend Cecil B. DeMille.
In this episode, New York Times bestselling authors Nelson DeMille and Alex DeMille prove that brilliance runs in the BLOOD LINES… We discuss their latest collaboration, an intricately constructed thriller that kept us guessing till the final page. BLOOD LINES features the return of Army CID Special Agents Brodie and Taylor who are on the hunt for the cold-blooded murderer of one of their fellow agents. Army Criminal Investigation Agents Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor have been separated for five months following their last assignment, a dangerous mission in Venezuela to locate and detain an infamous Army deserter. Now, in Berlin, they are reunited and tasked with investigating the murder of one of their own: CID Special Agent Harry Vance of the 5th MP Battalion, an accomplished counterterrorism agent who had been stationed in western Germany, and whose body was discovered in a city park in the heart of Berlin's Arab refugee community. The authorities suspect this is an act of Islamic terrorism, but Brodie and Taylor soon believe there is more to this case. The reason for Vance's presence in Berlin is unknown, and as Brodie and Taylor work to discover what the murder victim was doing in the days and weeks preceding his death, they become immersed in the many conflicts and contradictions of modern Germany—the Arab refugee crisis, the dark legacy of the Cold War and the Stasi secret police, and the imminent threats of a rising neo-Nazi movement. At the same time, they are butting heads with the authorities—both German and American—and facing a possible threat from American intelligence agents who fear that Brodie and Taylor might have learned too much about US clandestine operations during their mission in Venezuela. Ultimately, Brodie and Taylor realize that the murder of Harry Vance was merely the prelude to a much more sinister future event—unless they can unravel the mystery in time to stop it. Nelson DeMille is the New York Times bestselling author of twenty-two novels, seven of which were #1 New York Times bestsellers. “They took the idols and smashed them! And who've we got now? Some nobodies!” Sunset Boulevard is a classic genre blending, film noir, dark comedy that skewered the state of the film industry in 1950. Maybe the most incredible thing about it is that it's as relevant right now as it was nominated for 11 Academy Awards. But where, oh where, does it end up on our algorithmically confusing Top 100 list? Clint, Cal and Alex are about to find out! Billy Wilder co-wrote and directed the film about Norma Desmond, an aging silent film star with her glory days very much in the past, as played by Gloria Swanson, an aging silent film star whose glory days were very much in the past when they made the film. With William Holden letting his himbo out before it was cool and cameos by Cecille B. DeMille, Buster Keaton and even the 40s top gossip columnist, there's a realistic bite to its satire that few movies about the industry have even come close to matching in the seven decades since. Doctor Max Jacobson, whom the Secret Service under President John F. Kennedy code-named “Dr. Feelgood,” developed a unique “energy formula” that altered the paths of some of the twentieth century's most iconic figures, including President and Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis. JFK received his first injection (a special mix of “vitamins and hormones,” according to Jacobson) just before his first debate with Vice President Richard Nixon. The shot into JFK's throat not only cured his laryngitis, but also diminished the pain in his back, allowed him to stand up straighter, and invigorated the tired candidate. Kennedy demolished Nixon in that first debate and turned a tide of skepticism about Kennedy into an audience that appreciated his energy and crispness. What JFK didn't know then was that the injections were actually powerful doses of a combination of highly addictive liquid methamphetamine and steroids.Author and researcher Rick Lertzman and New York Times bestselling author Bill Birnes reveal heretofore unpublished material about the mysterious Dr. Feelgood. Through well-researched prose and interviews with celebrities including George Clooney, Jerry Lewis, Yogi Berra, and Sid Caesar, the authors reveal Jacobson's vast influence on events such as the assassination of JFK, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy-Khrushchev Vienna Summit, the murder of Marilyn Monroe, the filming of the C. B. DeMille classic The Ten Commandments, and the work of many of the great artists of that era. Jacobson destroyed the lives of several famous patients in the entertainment industry and accidentally killed his own wife, Nina, with an overdose of his formula.
