Her first book, The Family Affair Cookbook, was a tasty trip down memory lane and her 2015 memoir, Surviving Cissy: My Family Affair of Life in Hollywood was just released in paperback.  This year, Kathy has two more books scheduled for publication: TV Dinners with a Side Dish of Stars will be released in May and to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Family Affair, Family Affair: A Pictorial Scrapbook will be released in September.   Currently, Kathy can be seen on her YouTube channel cooking show, Cooking with Kathy and Scot and she'll soon be launching a podcast called All Things Classic with director, writer, producer John Norton.  She is a regular at comic conventions and autograph shows where she greets her many fans.  Kathy joined us from her home in Bell Canyon, CA. COMING UP NEXT WEEK Join us next week, Friday, August 27, for the second half of our interview with Kathy.  You can find out more about her, order copies of her books, and keep up on her latest projects at kathygarver.com.

Today’s episode will support all of our listeners to reconnect and tune into our highest, most authentic selves.    In the blossoming of Spring, we are nourished by this heart-opening conversation with the magical and loving Rocío Graves. Rocío has been through the seasons of life: from heartbreak, to chronic health issues, to spiritual rebirth and healing, we now find her in a joyous and healthy  explosion of self-creativity: exploring cooking, gardening, poetry, unconventional self care and through it all: embracing a transformational philosophy of slowness.    Rocío is a true advocate for self evolution and humanity. She is a food alchemist, writer, chef, dancer, activist, food photographer, healer, steward of the land, and unique voice for sustainability.  She received her BA in Human Rights in 2010 in London where she first dove into learning about water and farmer’s rights and later continued to explore through her studies of biodiverse regenerative farming and seed saving at vandana shiva’s organic farm and organisation ‘navdanya. While Rocío’s travels have taken her around the world, including to India (where she began her healing journey into Ayurveda) we now find her grounded, full circle,  in her birthplace of Mallorca, Spain.    Our conversation highlights what Rocío has been able to embody so beautifully; honoring one’s Self. We explore routine, food, self-care, inner work, and all the pathways that lead to healing. Rocío highlights that through our journey in self-love, we recognize our interconnectedness with each other, the Earth, the Cosmos, and beyond.   Mentioned In This Episode:    Sunday Supper May 23rd tickets: Sunday Supper w/ Beatrix Ost & Michelle Gagliano   Join our GIVEAWAY! For the 100th episode of Your Last Meal, host Rachel Belle welcomes three, 100-year-old women to the show to share their extraordinary lives, their last meals and the secret to a long, happy life: red wine and “keeping your own teeth.” It is our pleasure to introduce you to Antoinette Underwood, a World War II nurse with a love of dry, Italian wines, Ruth Samuelson, who walked a half marathon at 96, and Eleanor Owen, whose career spans from Broadway actor to co-founder of NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness. IKEA’s US culinary director joins the show to tell us how an umlaut-happy furniture store became synonymous with Swedish meatballs and lingonberry jam. And if you're single, living alone and loathe eating solo during the pandemic, Sutanya Dacers, host of the podcast Dinner For One, shares the story of how learning to cook for herself, post-divorce, made her feel whole again. Here are some highlights from the past 99 episodes, in case you missed them: Ice cream icons, Ben & Jerry, reveal the reason their ice creams are so famously packed with sweet blobs, chunks and ribbons: Ben has no sense of smell or taste and insists on loads of texture in every bite. Fashion designer Betsey Johnson had us thinking about the intersection of fashion & food, so we called up Franc Fernandez, designer of Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress, which is very appropriately made from...yes, skirt steak. Filmmaker John Waters wants to know how long it takes for a slice of coconut cream pie to show up as fat on his body. So Rachel interviews a dietician who explains the science of weight gain, busting just about every Internet myth in the process. François Clemmons, who played Officer Clemmons on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, loves okra, even its notorious slime. As does Adrian Miller, the Soul Food Scholar, who shares the history of many African American dishes that came over from west Africa during the slave trade. Actor and activist Rose McGowan loves Taco Bell and maintains the exact same order since she was 13, which she can rattle off at record speed. Rachel chats with Taco Bell's unofficial historian about how a white guy started a Mexican fast food empire. Actor Danny Trejo, notorious for his villainous roles, has died on-screen more than any other actor. But in real life, he’s focused on living; he only serves healthy versions of Mexican dishes at Trejo’s Tacos in Los Angeles. Rachel chats with Denise Vallejo, vegan chef/owner of LA's Alchemy Organica, who says the original, pre-colonial Mexican food was practically vegan and completely void of the cheese, tortillas, pork and sugar you see today. As the first Christians celebrated the first "communions" together, their time at the table was characterized with overflowing Joy (Acts 2:41-47). Communion is a party, not a funeral. It is something Jesus has given us to remind us of His triumphant resurrection, to be associated with the Freedom of Passover and His victory over death. He deliberately set the pattern of breaking bread with His followers the very evening of His resurrection (Luke 24:25-34) in order that the practice be one of celebrating the New Creation begun on the EIGHTH DAY (remember, 7 days in Genesis to create then rest?). The Lord's Supper is meant to be associated with the greatest excellence: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. God's plan is to establish a deep knit subconscious link with His Son's bursting from the tomb. Acts 20:7-12 reinforces all this while pointing out that there seems to be very little in common between how we practice communion today and how it was experienced by early Christ-followers.

Chef Scott Crawford opened Crawford and Son in Raleigh, NC November 2016 – a neighborhood restaurant referencing his commitment to family and community – and in 2018, it was named the “Triangle’s Restaurant of the Year.” Through his restaurant group, Crawford Hospitality, Crawford plans additional restaurants, including a French bistro, Jolie (opened August 2019) and modern American Steakhouse, Crawford Brothers. A five-time James Beard Foundation semifinalist for “Best Chef: Southeast,” Crawford also earned the coveted Forbes Five-Star award at Herons in The Umstead Hotel and Spa, at The Georgian Room at The Cloister Hotel and at The Woodlands Resort & Inn. Prior to opening Crawford and Son, he showcased his progressive take on Southern comfort food as executive chef of Standard Foods, where he also spearheaded the restaurant’s whole-animal butcher program and backyard feeder farm. Crawford’s leadership extends beyond the kitchen; he joined the Board of Ben’s Friends, and founded its Raleigh chapter – a support group for food and beverage professionals who struggle with substance abuse and addiction. Crawford is committed to introducing inspired restaurants, cultivating a healthy work-life balance in the culinary industry, and mentoring food and beverage professionals. Crawford also serves on the board for The Sunday Supper, and in 2018, led the team to raise $400K for Hurricane Florence victims. He also serves on the Honorary Committee of Healing Transitions – a place for recovery in downtown Raleigh. In 2019, The Triangle Business Journal recognized Crawford’s work, naming him “CEO of the Year.” When not in the kitchen, Crawford spends quality family time with his wife and two children, and is a mentor through Ben’s Friends.

We would gather around a large table and share food, wine, stories, and laughter.
