Well, we have finished the trilogy of Iain Provan's talks on creation and it provides a nice foundation for all of our thinking in Gospel Conversations. In this next podcast I pick up the Breakfast with Jesus journey through Ezekiel that Anne and I enjoyed so much. You will see a lot of resonances with Iain's talks. In this talk I ask a question that might seem obvious but in fact is not – ‘What is glory?' I confess that I never much asked this question for most of my early Christian life, so I just skated over the word and let it become a cliché. The question completes our BwJ series on the book of Ezekiel being framed by ‘glory' – and in my last talk I explored the wider vision of the ‘temple' that animates Ezekiel, where ‘temple' becomes a synecdoche for the entire created order. But we need the second half of the concept to complete this transporting vision of creation and that is ‘glory' filling this creation temple. In this talk I foreshadow a couple of conversations that we are going to have with Professor David Bradshaw later this year. David is Professor of Philosophy at Kentucky University and his thinking on glory is eye-opening – he explains how the Eastern church fathers explored ‘glory' in ways that the Western church – to its loss – did not. So you can look forward to that. I also mention Meredith Kline in this talk. You probably have not heard of him, but he was a big influence on two of our friends, Rikk Watts and Mark Strom. The book that I quote from in this talk is “Images of the Spirit” and it is still freely available from online bookstores. Finally, I mention a conversation with a friend of mine at the end of this talk – I have made this letter anonymous and we will post it on the Gospel Conversations website. It is an example of how we might use the creation gospel as the platform for sharing the good news with seekers.

In this episode, I sit with Jerry, born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He discusses his work in the nonprofit space and the experiences that led him into the affordable housing aspect of Real Estate. Top Takeaways: "A lot of people don't look at photography and videography as technology, but that's really some of our oldest technologies." - [Jerry Valentine] "The arts are the true way of self-expression." - [Jerry Valentine] "There are a lot of growing markets out there where you can be very successful just by opening the door to a home." - [Jerry Valentine] Episode Highlights: [00:24] Intro [01:12] Introducing today's guest, Jerry Valentine. [33:46] How to contact Jerry [35:22] Outro Episode Notes: Jerry founded "Renter Mentor," which helps connect tenants and landlords with affordable housing more straightforwardly. Based in Ohio throughout his life, Jerry shares that he loves Ohio for the big city energy that comes, especially since it comes without the high population. He shares that he would not change much about Ohio given a chance and encourages listeners to look out for his younger brother, defensive back for Kentucky University, number 14. During his first year at Ohio University, Jerry wanted to study communications and become a journalist but was discouraged when his mother shared her doubts about how lucrative that field was. Following his love for physical fitness, he decided to study Physical Therapy for the first three years. He realized he did not want a career in that and went back into communication. About the Get Out Network: Jerry is an innovator and a social entrepreneur who created the Get Out Network Nonprofit organization right after college. The mission of the Get Out Network is to work with underserved and underrepresented K-12 youth and provide STEM art workshops. Summarily, the network serves as an educational supplement. While trying to figure out his interest in college, he started doing videography and photography for organizations on campus, initially for free to build a portfolio but began making money much earlier than expected. When he moved to Colombus, he realized that many people don't have a concise curriculum to expose them to the different opportunities he had. This motivated him to start the group, which has been around for close to 8 years. Jerry shares how he got into affordable housing through an opportunity as a front desk clerk at the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority. Jerry explains that the front desk was a great position since he knew very little about the industry and had the opportunity to work with all other professionals in the field, learning the day-to-day activities involved. He also worked in the "lease and intake" department, gleaning knowledge from the clients, property managers, and landlords. One of the significant affordable housing problems that Jerry identified was the considerable disconnect between tenants and landlords. A typical example of this is when a section 8 voucher is given to a tenant, but they can't find a landlord to accept it. At the...

Today's dancers and dance classrooms are not the same as they were 20 years ago. The hierarchical and teacher-centred approach to instruction is dated and ineffective in today's classrooms. Long gone are the days of dancers nodding their heads in agreement or obedience without saying a word. Today's classrooms are student-centred learning environments that incorporate inquiry-based approaches to learning. Why should the dance studio learning environment be any different? In order for the learning environment to feel safe both physically and mentally for each dancer, the dancer needs to have a voice. Helping us better understand how to foster a learning environment that promotes self-efficacy and individuality in our dancers is the Dance Coordinator and Associate Professor at North Kentucky University Ms. Tracey Boner. GUEST: Tracey Bonner received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Shen -en-dough-a Shenandoah University, her Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine, and is currently pursuing a Master's of Arts in Integrative Studies. Her extensive background in academic and artistic research which focuses on using dance in creative ways across academic disciplines has led her to receive multiple awards for her work. Since becoming Associate Professor of Dance & BFA Dance Coordinator at Northern Kentucky University Ms. Bonner has quadrupled enrollment in the Bachelor of Fine Arts dance program and established a new student performance entitled The Emerging Choreographers Showcase among other notable accomplishments. Tracey Bonner has a long-standing career as an artist, an arts advocate, an artistic leader, and entrepreneur. She has developed specific course work in higher education to redefine artistic and academic leadership for women, while simultaneously refining and developing her own artistic aesthetic in dance.

I hear all too often the question "What does Africa & Black history have to do with what we do today?" I always hesitate. How do you explain a process to someone who believes they live in a bubble only affected by what happens today?I explain that I have a scar over my right eye because a guy sucker punched me one day as I was walking home from school. Now I am always aware when someone walks up on me from behind. Police self report domestic violence at the rate of 40% of ALL domestic violence reports.Their spouses are deathly afraid to report because...In a nationwide survey of 123 police departments, 45% had no specific policy for dealing with officer-involved domestic violence. http://www.purpleberets.org/violence_police_families.html Where were all of these people who call Black children thugs and criminals when the students at Kentucky University rioted in the streets for the 2nd year in a row. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/04/05/1375772/-Riots-Looting-Fires-Break-Out-in-Kentucky-Don-t-Worry-It-s-Mostly-White-Kids# Kentucky fans rioted because they lost a basketball game. Baltimore youth rioted because another black man was paralyzed and died while in police custody for the second time. Pastor Jamal Bryant brought the Bloods and the Crips together this past Sunday with the Nation of Islam and a Christian Church in peace to address and create a plan to overcome the systemic issue of domestic violence on the black male. Did Fox, NBC, ABC or CBS report that breaking news? NO!
